Product Description

The western European lute has a rich history traced back to the Ud, an Arabic instrument used since at least the 6th century. The lute has countless varieties, including the rebab, the North Indian Sitar, the Japanese shamisen, the theorbo, and the chitaronne. The traditional lute was one of the most important instruments of the Renaissance, played in solos, ensembles, or to accompany dances or vocals.
The European lute typically has a rounded body composed of steamed and bent strips of wood, a single ornate sound hole, and a long neck bent at the end at nearly 90 degrees. Lutes are frequently made of a mix of hard and soft woods such as rosewood, fir, pine, and spruce. The sound is clear and distinct, yet relatively soft. The lute's tuning (from bass to treble) is as follows:
DD FF GG CC FF AA DD G
This lute features:
Rosewood body dark and light staves, 8 course, 15 strings, 4 fixed and 8 movable frets, rosette carved in light spruce soundboard.
Includes case and "Learning to Play the Lute" book.
27" x 12.5" x 6"

Product Description

The Saz or Turkish Long Neck Lute is the grandfather of the Greek Bouzouki. It originated in Central Asia where Turks lived before their westward migration. Like the guitar in Spain and the bouzouki in Greece, the Saz is the most popular stringed instrument in Turkey. Although similar in shape to the Greek Bouzouki, the construction, size and sound of the Saz is different. These instruments have traditional tied frets that are movable, and 3 courses of strings. Sizes vary just a bit and length can be anywhere between 27 and 30 inches. TUNING: GDA, one octave above baglama, often no octave stringing; larger sizes will need to be tuned lower, such as DAE. ... by Lark In The Morning

(price subject to change: see help)
Asin: B0002IL2OI
Catlog: Musical Instruments
Manufacturer: Lark In The Morning
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

Product Description

In recent years electric sazes have become popular with many live performers. The saz is the most important Turkish folk instrument and is widely popular. A descendant of the ancient tambur-e-Khorsan, the saz has the additional frets needed to play the correct intervals used in Turkish folk music, sometimes called 1/4 tones. These frets are tied on and can be moved for different modes if needed. Played with a small pick, the saz is a melodic instrument. Saz bodies are either carved from one piece of wood, or are built of staves like a mandolin or oud. Sazes are usually tuned in 5ths, and the music is written as if the tuning is GDA; many other tunings are used, but EDA, F#DA and a few others are most common. The actual pitch may be somewhat higher depending on the neck, so that the actual tuning may be AEB, BbFC, etc. Has 6 strings and 3 courses with approximately 23 tied-on frets. Overall length is approximately 45 inches with a body width of 8-1/2 inches. Instrument has a magnetic guitar type pickup with a treble knob, bass knob and a volume knob. ... Read more
