An attractive entry model for recordists
I frankly bought this because it *looks* cool. The small picture of it here on Amazon doesn't do it justice: the plastichas a wood-tone color (but it's *not* wood-grained like more expensive recorders) and the LMI logo is relatively unobtrusive.The whole recorder has an elegant look to it.If you took this to a park and practiced you wouldn't look half as silly as you would with a transparent pink recorder pressed to your lips.

The LMI Renaissance Soprano recorder also comes with a cleaning rod.This is an important point, because the transparent Yamaha recorders, although surprisingly well-regarded as musical instruments *do not* come with cleaning rods!Considering the shipping and handling charges for a stick which costs forty cents, I decided to throw in a couple of more bucks and get a second recorder out of the deal.It may not have as good a "voice" as the transparent Yamahas, but it looks a whole lot better, and for someone who is having trouble playing a C note on the recorder, anything which helps to protect the vulnerable ego is a welcome help.(Little kids are not going to yell, "Mommy, that man has a piece of plastic colored like boxwood in his mouth!"I shudder to think of what I'd hear with my transparent green Yamaha sticking out of my mouth in some child-infested park.) ...
