5-0 out of 5 stars Great keyboard for no-nonsense playing
I'm learning to play the piano, have an emac, and no room for a piano in my house. The keyboard is wonderfully easy to set up and use, and I haven't had a problem with it in 3 months. Not having an AC adaptor is nice, it's powered by the USB.Flawless integration with GarageBand.I move to a real piano once a week, and have no trouble playing on it after a week on the Keystation.I highly recommend this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars MIDI controller generates error with MC-303 sequencer
I bought one of these to control my Roland MC-303 sequencer. It generates a "err 02" after pressing a few keys. Will not make music for more then a few seconds.Tried another one at a local music store and a both a keystaion 61es and 49e, both had the same problem. In talking with the salesman he said that other customers have reported simular problems, sound dropping, error codes with a variety of equipment. It seems that it works really well via USB to a computer but there are many issues with the MIDI out.I they tried a Radium 49 and it worked like a charm. From what I hear the Radium series is made by another manufacturer and is totally different.

Bottom line, if your not going to use the MIDI out it would probably work great, it also may work well with some equipment.Just would not work for more then a few seconds or notes with the Roland MC-303.

    Buyer beware.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hubby Pleased
Amazon upgraded my shipping of this item free of charge due to unforseen delays. Recvd item two days later. My hubby had emailed me this amazon website as a birthday request. I am quite happy with the service and quality of packaging.

As for the item, it is exactly what hubby was looking for to mess around on his computer. I don't think this is for professional use, but if you just want to putz around at home you cannot find a better deal than this one!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but could be better
As somebody who does all of my music recording and editing using software, I was looking for something with the right features for what I do.If you're familiar enough with your software, this keyboard will do the job. However, it has several short-comings.

First, the keys are very "springy".They actually resist depression more than one would expect.Although the keyboard is velocity-sensitive, the "springiness" actually makes it difficult to control the sensitivity. If you've played on better keyboards, or have never played on a velocity-sensitive keyboard, it will require some "re-learning".Also, 49 keys has a disadvantage in that an entire octave is missing as compared to larger keyboards.Having moved from a 61 key to a 49 key keyboard, you realize how important the additional octave is.However, you can shift the pitch an entire octave using the dedicated keys.

This controller lacks a display.Higher-functions (such as changing MIDI channels or programs) are accessed by pressing an advanced button and one of the keyboard's keys. This requires consulting the manual, especially when you need to do something you don't do on a regular basis. On a positive note, you can assign the volume slider and modulation wheel to any controller you choose, which is helpful for controlling pan, portamento, breath, or any other effect. You can also change the functionality of the "octave" keys, so that you can change the selected program(sound) incrementally. This can be extremely confusing at times -- I plan on cutting and pasting sections of the manual directly onto the unit's body for easy reference.

If using USB, the keyboard requires no power supply. There is a small power switch located on the back of the unit, however, which must be turned on in order for the PC to recognize the USB device.I often find myself forgetting to turn it on.The dedicated MIDI out jack is handy for connecting to legacy MIDI equipment, but since no power supply is included, you'll need to find your own universal adapter. However, using USB means I have one less thing to plug into the power strip.

The unit has significant weight, more than I thought it would have. It's definitely a sturdy unit. But this definitely isn't the best of the lot; it will do the job of a "controller" for under $100.Recommended -- "yes" -- but only if you have a little patience and prior knowledge of MIDI, MIDI controllers, and keyboards. ... Product Description

16-Pad MIDI Drum Controller for Itchy Trigger Fingers More DJâs, Hip Hop artists and electronic musicians are leaning towards software based setups to create beats and grooves due to the huge variety of sounds available as well as the limitless opportunities for mangling sounds that sofware offers. But most beat-makers feel that their most interesting patterns comes from banging out a rhythm on the edge of the desk or on their knees, which is much more intuitive than using a MIDI keyboard or the tiny finger pads on many drum machines. M-Audioâs Trigger Finger offers DJâs, Hip-Hop artists and drum programmers an easy-to-use dedicated drum pad controller, which offers larger pads than most drum machines. M-Audio Trigger Finger at a Glance: Dedicated MIDI drum control surface with 16 velocity and pressure sensitive pads. 8 assignable knobs, 4 assignable faders with pre-programmed maps16 MIDI Presets and editor/librarian software included.Powered via USB connection, fully Mac and PC compliant. Play Expressively with Velocity and Pressure Sensitive Pads M-Audio Trigger Fingerâs 16 "MPC" sized velocity and pressure sensitive pads contribute to the feel of triggering "real" drums and percussion, ensemble "blasts", and virtually any sample or loop requiring a more percussive method of playing. Or, for VJs, Trigger Finger can even control video projections - and applying pressure to the pads can generate any MIDI controller you wish. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars works like it should
Despite not having MS certification, this adaptor works perfectly fine under XP.It would have been nice if they had included a printed copy of the install instructions, since you're supposed to run the setup program off the disc before plugging it in.
There's no options or other controls, it's basically just an adaptor; all my software recognized it right away as a midi connection, and my keyboard accepted it just fine, too. It's nice having the LED's, so you can see when data is being sent, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Versatile percussion
This drum is the instrument of choice to begin in the professional percussion. If you are an appassionate of real drums, you will miss the feel of a traditional drum (the sound of the perimeter of the snare, the multiple variations in the sound of the ride cymbal, the subtleness of opening and closing the hi-hat -though this drum system is sensible enough to allow some basic opening/closing playing-). If you are not, you'll get high quality drum sounds (hard to distinguish from real ones), together with a nice atmosphere (due to the DSP effects that the DD55 includes).

Moreover, if you turn the hand-percussion mode on, you will enjoy some basic (yet high quality again) percussion instruments.

All the pads and the bass drum pedal provide fine sensitivity, so you will usually not need to strike them hard - simply give gentle touchs and enjoy

The MIDI implementation is also very good, so you can record your performances or use the DD55 as a external sound module.

In sum, it's probably the best choice in its price range.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic way to learn to play the drums
I bought this item after testing it out for a few minutes at a local store, and found that it is much more versatiel that it may first appear. Pads are responsive, but not too responsive - sensitivity is adjustable. I recommend trying to find the kit with the drum stand included - it makes it very easy to have a setup at home.

Drum sounds are great, comparable to more MIDI modules that would otherwise come separately, or if you want to you could run the MIDI through the wavetable on the soundcard of your computer (or run virtual samplers or whatever off of it - everything comes across standard channel 10 (drum channel) but you can also program is for other channels or even separate pads by channel.

You may read complaints about the hat being hard to use... I found that if you hold the sticks properly this becomes less of an issue - the set is designed to trim back double-hits and so if you are sloppy, you will not get the clean hat sounds you are looking for - so yes, it works, clean up your playing! :)

The rubber pads also have a very similar feel to rubber practice pads used by teachers and students all over... so the feel of the drum hits is excellent. As I have gotten better and more confident I find I am able to bash away at the set and it's responsive nature is excellent.

However I have two recommendations -

    1. Get headphones - you can practice anytime!
    2. Get a carpet - this is an old trick to keep gear in place while you play, but it really works for this kit. The trigger pedals are plastic and light and so although they have rubber feet, they have the tendency to bounce if you are a good stomper! So you hear the trigger of your stomp but then the trigger when the pedal hits the floor! On hardwood floor this happens easily. So get yourself a small carpet or else attach some sort of plate to the bottom of the pedals so they won't slip...

Word has it this kit can use the fancier Yamaha pro kick and hat pedals also, so if you really want to get serious about it, well there you go.

I tried taking lessons on a conventional drum kit and found that it made too much noise and that I wouldn't practice because I hated having people hear how bad I was... This kit eliminates that problem, and you can focus more on the essentials of separating your limbs and on timing... It includes an onboard metronome also, and the black circle is a dialing control that can be used to select kits, sounds, songs, and metronome speed...

Alternative in pad mode, you just hit the pad you want to change and it cycles through the sounds and roll patterns until you find one you like. I find myself dialing back and forth playing around with different sounds.

Also, there are voices with multiple patch triggers based on velocity - meaning that one those voices, not only will the sound be louder as you hit harder, but the sound will changed from a more subdued snare sample to a rimshot or a louder snare sample as well as get louder.

Final rec, if the sounds themselves don't do it for you, I have found two things help expand the possibilities of this kit:

    1. a POD or Roland Cube15 or another modeling amplifier - like having a drum mic mixer in your home...

    2. an actual mixer... I suggest one of the home varieties - I personally run it through a Peavy RQ100 along with my stereo and play along - 30 hour jam sessions and you can play along great. My brother just bought the small Behringer home mixer and really likes it as well, although it is geared more towards being portable with the Peavey RQ100 has inputs that are computer friendly...

Well that's about it - it's a great starter kit for someone who has always wanted to try drums - that was me 2 months ago, and now I am actually doing it thanks to this machine. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value 'semi-weighted' keyboard
I was surprised at the low price of this keyboard considering it has 61 semi-weighted keys. I thought maybe it wouldn't be such great quality but I was pleasantly surprised.
I thought at first that the keys were a little bit "springy", but I soon got used to them. So much so that when I went back to my old Yamaha keyboard (not weighted), the Yamaha felt terrible. This M-Audio lets you play nice and subtle.
There's not much to this keyboard, just a couple of very smooth acting wheels (pitch and modulation), a volume slider and a couple of function buttons. It all seems well-made and the keyboard is heavier than I expected.
I was pleased to find that when I took it out of its box, plugged in the USB cable and opened GarageBand, everything worked perfectly, immediately. No messing about.
It works well with GarageBand (not tried it with anything else), and being powered by the USB cable means it's dead easy to plug in and start playing.
At this price, I can't see how you can go wrong. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
This is a cheaply made cable, for too much money. When you get it, the MIDI IN/OUT jacks are glued together, wire to wire. This is all fine and dandy if you're using it for one keyboard (which since it's by Casio I guess the target audience would), but my keyboard and synth rack are on opposite sides of my workspace. You can rip the glue apart to seperate them but it makes the cables feel very flimsy.

Connecting the cable to the Joystick port on my sound card would have been a lot easier if the connector had thumbscrews. Instead, it has mini-flathead screws.

The MIDI OUT jack seems very flimsy. Every so often I have to check on it to make sure it's in all the way. This was quite frustrating as all my synths would be playing one minute, then nothing would be playing.

Look for something better, or make it work.

These cables require you to switch the output end of the cord to the input port on your keyboard, and vice versa. The next thing you need to do is go into \Control Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices.Choose the Audio tab, and you will see a box called MIDI music playback(assuming your running windows OS).For the default device, choose 'MPU-401' from the drop down and choose 'apply' then 'ok'.Set the keyboard gm mode to 'on', and play any MIDI through media player or real one player.Your MIDI file should play through the speakers on the keyboard.Your son will have to switch the navigation channel to pick up the different ranges of the song.Hope this helps.I got this info from Casio.

Can any one help me with this nice keyboard my son loves the key board. I could not get him away from it in the toys-r-us store . 10 year old boy with lots more toys to see and buy all he wanted for chrismas was this key board. We got him the key board . But the song at the store was not on the key board when we took it home . The song was from the movie titanic. Please tell me how to us this keyboard and down load from my computer so my son can learn the song he longs to play? Thank you Kathy

Neither this listing nor Casio's web site mention if this cable includes an opto-isolator.Without it, you could have problems communicating between MIDI gear and your PC.

Look around for MIDI-to-PC cables that have an opto-isolator.They aren't any more expensive, and they could save you a lot of time and headache. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great sound module for the price
I have been using an SD-20 for several years. It is an outstanding sound module for the price. There are a great number of good, quality sounds. With good sequencing skills, you can create very high-quality music with this unit. The only drawback is the polyphony. Sustaining cymbal sounds (ride cymbals) tend to eat up the available notes pretty quickly. So if you need to do heavy orchestrations with alot of cymbal sounds, you may want a dedicated drum module. ... Read more
