3-0 out of 5 stars There are Better headphones......
i got this as an addition to my creative nomad jukebox zen NX xtra 30 GB Mp3 player.i got to say this...build quality rocks an they look cool...but these headphones hurt my ear so bad even though my ears not big nor are they small...unless i keep the headphones close to my ear the sound quality seems to suffer.i would rather recommend a over the ear headphones.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good if you like very strong bass
I was looking for something to replace the standard iPod headphones.I like the style and price of these. The audio quality seemed like it would be pretty good too.

After receiving the headphones from Amazon I was disappointed in two ways. The first is more minor.I thought the cord would be almost white. It's actually silver, even a little glitter-y.Second was the level of bass -- it's very high.I like high bass for some tracks, but not all. That's what I use the equalizer for.But even when I turn the equalizer off on my iPod, the bass is still almost too strong.I'm not sure how much I'll end up using these headphones.

I thought it was funny how on the packaging Sony says "for the House and Trance lifestyle."Maybe it's true... just a dorky way to say it.

I think I prefer the Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia Headphones.Great sound quality, but not busting my eardrums with bass.

4-0 out of 5 stars About the best you can get for the price
I used to do a bit of studio and concert sound engineering and I'm really picky about sound quality. I'm always skeptical of open-air headphone designs--and anything under fifty bucks--but I was pleasantly surprised by these ones. For the money they have terrific sound and an acceptable fit too.

I tend to look at the published tech specs of headphones and speakers more than any other factor. These have a frequency response of 16Hz-24kHz which is decent (never bother with anything that doesn't go below 20Hz or above 20kHz because in practice they won't be as good as published, especially at the low end). My opinion is the bass is perfectly accentuated but the highs aren't as bright as I'd hoped--an equalizer helps though. The 30mm driver is nice especially if you're used to earbud-style headphones like the ones that come with iPods: you need a bigger, stronger diaphragm to produce more bass (you also need a bigger duct, which these have as well). The sensitivity is fairly high at 104db/mW which means they don't need as much power to produce big sound, however, the input power is stated at a full watt, which is like twice as much, or more, as most cheap headphones--which means less distortion. The oxygen-free copper cord and gold plated connectors are nice touches you don't find on most cheap headphones.

Be careful when you go to buy these and make sure you read the specs and the package contents because Sony likes to reuse model numbers despite changing the color, cord size/style, and sometimes even tech specs of headphones. Mine came with a pitifully short cord and an "extension" cord. If you have a small MP3 player in a shirt pocket it's nice not to have an overly-long headphone cord, but otherwise you have to deal with the coupler in the middle making it heavier. I also don't like the behind-the-neck style cord, I prefer the split to be equal to each earpiece. The braided design is also prone to twisting and tangling.

As for the comfort, it's a trade-off between not having to deal with a head/neck band, and instead having to deal with behind-the-ear clippy things that are kind of hard to get on right. I foud that getting them positioned right where the sound is best is hard, and once you get them there bouncing a lot or turning your head can move them. They are fairly light though, and I had no trouble putting on or taking off eyeglasses while wearing them.

In short, the sound quality, power handling, and sound pressure output are all great and they're not terribly uncomfortable--better than earbuds in my opinion. Great for sitting at your desk working or stationary exercisers. Great price too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good quality at a great value
These headphones have excellent audio quality for the average user, but for $20, its obviously not of professional quality sound.Itsonly major flaw is the clip, which does not fit everyone comfortably.Peronally, I quickly got used to the fit and now love it.Glasses are also not as large of a concern as one would suppose, something that I can personally affirm to.If you are on the market for a non-earbud headset, this product offers quality sound, stylish looks, and a compact form factor, all for an extremely low price.

2-0 out of 5 stars Decent product - if it fits your ears right
PROS:

* Powerful bass, and crisp treble
* Cool, stylish design
* Price ($20.99)
* Sony quality

CONS:

* Fits the ears loosely; tends to fall off easily
* Most of the bass is lost because of the mediocre fit
* Everyone in the room can hear your music
* Clip tends to deform over time

Overall, I don't recommend this type of headphones. This is no exception.Go for a different pair of Sony's, particularly Fontopia earbuds or Street Style neckband headphones. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

This wireless headphone system was designed to connect with your TV or stereo system. The 900 MHz wireless system -- similar technology as the 900 MHz cordless phones -- allows you to move around the room without that pesky cord draping behind. It is easy to connect to TV, VCR, DVD or audio systems with the supplied connecting cord and plug adaptor. This system includes both transmitter and headphones.

The high power radio frequency (RF) transmitter provides excellent sound quality and transmission range, especially when compared to earlier wireless systems. The MDR-RF945RKs have a transmission range of 150 feet. The headband is self-adjusting and sports two, snug-fitting bands. The headphones come with a rechargeable Ni-Cad battery. The system sports an automatic headphone battery charge system and will recharge the headphone's Ni-Cad battery whenever they are set in the transmitter. You can expect an impressive twenty hours of use from a fully charged battery.

The headphones are lightweight and comfortable, delivering quality sound. Sony has installed several technical features in the headphones to ensure a quality listening experience. There are three transmission channels to assist in optimal reception. You can manually choose the best channel on the headphones, or choose the auto-select option and the headphones will scan for the best signal. The thirty millimeter drive units deliver deep bass, low distortion and a wide frequency response range (20 - 20,000 Hz). Ferrite magnets give the headphones good energy at a minimal size and weight. The PET diaphragms offer low distortion and resists bending and flexing. The open-air, supra-aural design is comfortable and allows you to keep in touch with ambient sounds. With the mute button you can quickly shut off the music or TV noise.

The transmitter's inputs, along with the supplied connecting cord, make it easy to connect your audio or TV component. There is even a supplied UniMatch plug to ensure compatibility. With this adaptor, you can connect the transmitter to various sound sources. These plugs accommodate both the phone jack found on high fidelity components or the mini-jack found on video components. A single volume control is found on the right earpiece for simple volume adjustments. Finally, there is an automatic power switch on both the headphones and transmitter to help conserve battery and equipment life. (The unit turns back on when the transmitter detects a signal, while the headphones turn on when they sense their placement on your head.)The headphones weigh 8.2 ounces and are a modern silver color.

1-0 out of 5 stars HUH???
Reception is generally terrible. They seem to work only when they want to.It's a big waste of money.

1-0 out of 5 stars Impossible to adjust headband
There is no way to adjust the headband, allowing the headset to slide down and off your head.If you move around at all you have to hold the headset in place.Sound quality (because of background hiss) is mediocre.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of $$!!
Bought these for a Christmas present for my boyfriend - the first time he used them they worked great...second time all you could hear was the conversations coming from our neighbor's cellphone.I have not used them since then - they are collecting dust on my entertainment center and I don't know what to do with them.I live in the Rocky Mountains and don't have a lot of neighbors - and like I said, they worked the first time I used them but sounded awful each time after.
Buy at your own risk!I would return them if I could...

2-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced and noisy
Too noisy to watch DVDs or listening to music, lot of static, mostly if you don't stand still like a statue. Very disappointing from Sony. Buy Koss, Sennheiser or Bose. Oh and the connection between the base and the headphones is crap.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor for dynamic range of sound
These are great for the average listener who isn't going to move too far away from the television or stereo while using them.

However, I have a major problem with them: I listen to classical music ALOT and the volume constantly adjusts itself so if I get to some loud part in the music, like a cymbal crash or burst of horns, the volume clamps down making what should be a climax in the music I'm listening to sound not much louder than a whisper.

That's HORRIBLE and there is nothing that can be done about it. I don't understand.

DO NOT by these if you listen to alot of loud/soft music. This is also a problem when watching DVDs. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny
Got these headphones 4 years ago for $200, and have since used them constantly. Not only are they built to last, but if something does break, you can replace it.For example, my devil-cat bit through the cord a few weeks ago, so I ordered a replacement cord(Silver Dragon) that can be installed by anyone in a few minutes.Needless to say, the sound is incredible, and the pads are so soft that I can wear them for hours at a time. There are many replacement accessories for audiophiles, so the sky's the limit. The marble-swirl finish on the outside is also a nice touch. If you wear headphones a lot, you really owe it to yourself to get the best!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best.Headphones.Ever.
They may be expensive for headphones, but you get what you pay for.Music and games sound amazing in these, and they are extremely comfortable.Sometimes I forget I'm wearing them at all. Also, the cables are very strong, and have withstood multiple pulls and snags on the cords without incurring damage. These headphones will be the last pair you ever buy. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars OK if Purchased at the Right Price
I have been using those for weeks and never encountered any of the charging problems that some reviewers cite below.Maybe because I always keep the charger on when they are not in use.99% of the time they are not using power anyway...

I bought this pair knowing that other brands (e.g. Sony) offer better products at the same price (there are certainly better products at higher prices.)The feature that turned me on was the leather-like ear pads with the acoustic cavity (leather is fake, but feels like real.)My ears get sweaty with flat cloth pads that are in full contact with the whole ear, and I think it is bad for the ears too.I found those headsets very comfortable. The sound is not great, but it is OK.The signal was strong, although I did notice some sensitivity to angle with respect to the transmitter.

The bottom line:This is a reasonable product for moderate requirements. If you buy this at a good price, and if you are interested in listening to pop music while you are doing chores in the garage, or while your children sleep, it is a good enough product. If you are thinking of using this as a high-performance substitute to wired headsets, or for listening to opera, you are not looking anywhere near the right price range...

1-0 out of 5 stars The negative reviewers are right
I also returned the headphones back to the store thinking they were defective. The second set worked for a while but now the green light keeps turning off. The people who wrote the good reviews must be working for RCA.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Headphones
I've been using these headphones for about 2 weeks with no problems.Around my office, the sound is very crisp and clear. They aren't going to blow you away with bass response, but the sound is fine.I also noticed that if you are getting some bass distortion, adjusting the frequency can help some.

I'm in an office building full of computers and electical equipment.I can walk around for 75 feet and get no static at all.If a push them to 150 feet, I'll get a little static, but they still sound fine. They seem to transmit through walls and cubicles fairly easily.

As one reviewer commented, you do have to turn the volume up a little on your input signal for them to work properly. This wasn't a problem, but could cause some frustration if you didn't know about it.

The charging system has worked fine for me.The green light on the base does go out pretty quick, indicating the fast charge is done. However, the manual says that they will trickle charge after the LED goes out.I left mine on the charger overnight, and haven't had any problems with the batteries.I probably got 10 hours of use before the signal started to seem weak, and I set them on the charger.

I'm happy so far.

1-0 out of 5 stars PAINFUL in more than one way.
There are some major cons to these headphones.

-These headphones are very uncomfortable. They have the look of an over-ear style headphone but the earpeices are too small to fit completely over your ears. They end up pressing your ears flat against your head, which becomes extremely painful when you're wearing these for extended periods of time.

-As the battery drains you find yourself having to adjust the frequency to get rid of static.

-They do not handle bass well. If your listening to music with alot of bass or watching a movie with explosions and such the sound becomes distorted.

-The base has an auto off feature. Your input device's volmue must be turned to the maximum level. If your input volume is not at a high level and you come to a quiet part of a song or movie it may stop transmitting, leaving you with white noise until the sound becomes loud again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
Charges for minutes before stopping.Have to play around with the jack.Returned to the store for a new pair, thinking something was loose.Same thing with this pair. Also, while trying to use them, a conversation from our cordless phone started coming through them (clearly).TV sound not clear.Waste of $50.They're going back to the store, again, for good. ... Amazon.com Product Description

Sometimes a single pair of headphones just isn't enough, especially when a couple of people want to watch a surround sound DVD without keeping the entire house awake. That's where these Sony wireless headphones come into play. Compatible with the Sony MDR-DS3000 transmitter, the open-air phones are not only comfortable and cordless, but they boast a 23-foot transmission range and a 90-degree transmission angle, meaning listeners can move around contentedly without losing the signal. Movie fans will also delight in the transmitter's lightning-fast digital processing, which conveys Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, and DTS formats through the phones' extra-large 30 mm drivers to create an impressively realistic audio experience. The decoders are built directly into the headphones so that listeners can unlock all the popular surround tracks on DVDs, VHS Hi-Fi cassettes, and stereo TV sources. The audio effect is consistently stirring thanks to both the decoders and the Sony Logic 3D processor, which creates a richer and more natural "live" sound quality with a weighty, substantial bass. And should the phones feel a bit tight or loose, users can fiddle with the self-adjusting headband to create a more precise fit--an essential feature when watching long films such as the The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Additional features include a volume control on one of the earpieces, an automatic on/off function that corresponds to the transmitter, a muting function that eliminates noise outside of the transmission range, and a power-saving feature that turns off the headphones after 10 signal-free minutes. The headphones come with a pair of NiMH AAA rechargeable batteries.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great but Needs Battery Charger
Acoustically and ergonomically, the MDR-IF3000 is all that Sony claims it is. Unfortunately, it can be recharged only on the base station: no separate battery charger is available for it. With prolonged use and/or many headphones, juggling multiple headphones on one charger is sure to fail. If you need multiple headphones, perhaps a product line that provides extra battery chargers as well as extra headphones would be preferable. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING! WARNING!
WARNING TO ANYONE BUYING THIS PRODUCT! I had these headphones for 3 1/2 months. Until then they worked great. But, one day they just stopped working.

5-0 out of 5 stars out of this world
by far one of my better investments. they've become a part of my head and its non-stop beats being delivered at high decibel and crisp clean sound. and best of all... batteries included lol

1-0 out of 5 stars Not happy.
I first noticed after opening the package of my brand new skullcandy crushers that they were cheaply made. I know from previously bought headphones that there are better items out there. After 4 weeks , I noticed that on certain bass audio there was distortion on the bass. I cant listen with out a crackle on the bass anymore. These headphones are cheap and not worth the 90 dollars I paid.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best bass I've ever heard in headphones
I've been trying lots of headphones for the past six months, but these definitely are the best. Midrange sounds come clear on the headphones, even though they're not loud. Some bass frequencies seem to be just left out in the amplification, but most of the bass just pumps through really nicely. The headphones vibrate like a real subwoofer and the sound is comparable to listening to music in a club or a loud car. The good thing about these is that you get a lot of bass but do not burst your ears with loudness for that. They sound good on my ipod and have a lot of bass even on low volumes. They are also pretty good at shielding outside noise and are very comfortable to wear.
Pros:
amazing bass
good noise shielding
almost no sound leaks out if you wear them
comfortable
cool-looking

cons:
somewhat costly
not very sturdy/might break easily
build quality (at least the plastic part) is not at par with Sony/Philips/Senheiser

4-0 out of 5 stars Skullcandy-licious
If you love, love, love your bass to go boom, these are for you. But look around for Crushers in the $40-50 range because, while the bass is big, the headphone construction is on the :cough: cheap :cough: side and mid-range audio sometimes falls away to a whisper. Skullcandy could sell Crushers by the truckload at $30. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars HP-NCII - Good only for certain applications
I read other people about Maxell HP-NC1 and decided to buy HP-NCII ($29.99). Here're the short list of what I have tested.
a/ Normal/Quite environment - When the noise cancelling (NC)is on, the white noise is quite noticeable and there's no effect to other people talks. I feel better listening to the music with the NC off.
b/ Snow blower and lawn mower - At slow speed setting, there's little different when the NC is on or off. But at high speed setting, the NC will block off the loud noise level significantly; the noise level coming through is about the same as the slow speed setting.
c/ Vacuum machine (12Amp) - there's no effect to the vacuum machine's whistling noise.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good value but you get what you pay for
I have now used these headphones on a few flights and have found the following:

    1. They help versus not using them, i.e. they make a difference
    2. Battery life is very good
    3. Price is great!
    4. They are *not* very comfortable. My ears hurt after wearing them for the whole flight (longer than 5 hours)

Overall, if you don't want to spend a lot of money on such gadgets, get this one.If you want the best, get the Bose one!

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing technologi, less good comfort....
These relatively inexpensive noice-cancelling headphones really does its job well, remarkable how it reduces the cabin noice on a Boing 747 by at least 50%. It's actually possible with these to follow a movie being shown and understand all that's being said without too much concentration. As for the sound quality, they're probable nothing fancy but they produce a good deal more bass than your standard in-flight headset. My only problem with these is the comfort issue. After 1-2 hour of wearing my ears gets red/annoyed. This is because they rest on the ear itself where I would've preferred an over-the-ear solution. I am happy I got them however, great value for the money, the Sony solution is way WAY more expensive and I just need them for an occational movie in flight.

3-0 out of 5 stars Work well, good value, mechanically weak
These are inexpensive and work well with airline audio systems, computers, walkmans.Battery life is excellent, at least 20 hours on a set of batteries. However, mechanically, these headphones are flimsy. The earcups twist for storage, but if stressed, they will break off. They can be repaired, if you don't mind using epoxy glue and wrapping up the break with wire, and not having the twist capability anymore.

4-0 out of 5 stars Can't be beat for [price]
I wear headphones while at work because I sit in a project room, listening mostly to MP3s on my laptop.Since other people's conversations can get loud at times, the noise cancellation is a bonus. It doesn't entirely drown them out, but it definitely makes things less distracting.

The volume switch on my set isn't well built.Sliding it back and forth can cause you to lose volume in one ear only, especially at lower volume levels. The headphones fit really tight, so I recommend bending them a bit at the top to make them more comfortable. ... Read more
