This is a good starter dj unit if this is your first time buying dj equipment. It is not the best value though.ION has a dj kit that is also avalible from AMAZON.COM.It is extrememly similar and runs a "touch" more expensive (last time i checked only about $20 more) BUT it includes a pair of starter speakers. This one does not.The ion one does not say in the product description that it does include speakers but trust me, it does. The speakers ION includes are not the best ones but atleast they are something to get you started. They are sufficient enough for practicing in your room or at maybe a small club. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good Headphones For the Price
These headphones are really good, and they aren't priced in excess of $100, like a lot of headphones I found on Amazon. They have a great frequency response, are comfy (although, a little more padding on the band connecting the two earphones might be nice), and they give you a pretty healthy sounding bass. Just what I was looking for.

They come with a quarter-inch headphone jack, so I recommend getting an adapter so that the headphones will plug into the more common sized plug.

If you're looking for a decent, sturdy pair of headphones for a low budget, these are the ones to get.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful buy
Absolutely wonderful headphones. Great sound quality, regardless of the price. I especially love the quarter inch plug which I directly plug into my bass guitar for superb sound quality that doesn't bother anyone else in the room. You will not find a better pair of headphones at this price. Highly recomended

5-0 out of 5 stars For the Price, Nothing better
I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of these headphones.I have owned many different styles and brands of headphones in the past and to reach the quality of these one would expect to pay quite alot more than these. The Bass response is unbelievable, High end is crisp and clear.I use them mainly with my computer and the sound is excellent.I can only imagine how they would sound thru a true stereo. If your looking for a great set of headphones believe me, you dont have to pay alot to get great quality. You will be impressed. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars What Was I Thinking?
If ever I wanted to hear this one record that I own from my small record collection, I would have to buy a new turntable because that recording was made in 1966 and was never released in any other format. I thought the Teac P-988 at $90 would serve my purpose. What was I thinking? Even if I had been able to get this turntable to produce any sound I would not have kept it and I would still rate it 1 star because 0 star is not an option at Amazon. This unit is so cheap that it's embarassing. I returned it and got the Audio-Technica AT-PL120 at $220 from Amazon. Now there's a turntable that will make all your records sound super fine for just a few more dollars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great turntable for just listening to records

Its a pretty good belt-drive turntable which has a built-in pre-amp (on or off) under the metal platter. I bought this turntable because the replacement stylus is easily replaceable and not that expensive, unlike the Sony turntable's stylus that cost some $50 bucks to replace, this one only cost about $20 every 400 hours of usage. If you use it 2 hours a day it should last you the whole year.

I've hooked this up to my dvd recorder and have recorded 10 hours of music onto a dvd-r via the sylvania dvd recorder which i bought on Amazon recenlty). Nothing to it, i didn't even need a reciever or amp to run it thru, I just took the white and red audio wires and connected to the back of the dvd recorder and connected the yellow video wire on any blank directv channel for the video and started recording, I've transferred all of my 80s 90s and now 2004 12" vinyl singles which aren't available on cds directly to the dvd-r disc.

This is also a fully automatic turntable (not manual) which means it returns to the needle rest arm after a record is over playing. Since it does have the built-in pre-amp (which you can turn off or on) you can hook this up basically anywhere like your tv or mini audio system. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Retracting feature is great
I have used this set with my I-pod for several months. I purchased this unit because of the retractable ear bud feature and I am pleased with it. I used to have a problem with any other ear buds cords tangling up. I have had no problems with tangling or retracting with this unit. The sound is acceptable -- in fact it's great for the price. I use my noise canceling ear buds when I want superior sound, but these are perfect for everyday use.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I purchased this retractable headset from Amazon.com about 3 months ago for $13. Besides being relatively heavy and clunky, the plug often slipped out of my iPod. Also, it gets stuck and won't retract. And when I pulled on it to get it out, the ear plugfell apart and now it won't play in one ear. Additionally, it still gets tangled and occasionally it won't retract back. I am already looking for another pair of earphones. If I could give this product less than 1 star, I would. It is cheaply made and not worth the money. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Last of the view budget tables
This and its pitch controllable sibling BD22 are the very last semi listenable semi automatic entry level turntables below 300 dollars on the market. If you are looking for a machine that will lift the arm at the end of the record, this is pretty much the only one left that will do it and not sound like a plastic cup string telephone. Not the worst I've heard, but PLEASE don't pay attention to die-hard "Technics is the best" fans. Most of them only read manufacturer's hype sheets and have never tried a Thorens, Dual, Music Hall, Project, etc, not even mentioning a real high end machine!
If you are on a strict budget, then for sure this is the best choice under 200 dollars, but don't expect exceptional sound. A good homebaked player to revive your vinyl collection, and take it as such.
If can you get yourself to get out of the chair at the end of the record to list the arm and return it, then look for a HiFi dealer that carries the contemporary audiophile turntables made by Music Hall or Project. You will have to spring around 300 dollars for their lowest offerings, but you get a real turntable - one that can accept standard 1/2 inch mount cartridges.
Even the factory cartridges on the Music Hall MMF 2.1 and the Project 1.2 (both use Goldring cartridges) will sound much better than the T4P style cartridge on the Technics BD20 (there is NO good T4P cartridge on the market) and if you need a new needle or want to upgrade to a better one, your selection will be much bigger down the line.

Almost forgot - Gemini, GLI-Pro, and Stanton have completely manual "DJ" tables for around 120 to 180 dollars on the ,arket, that are much sturdier, heavier, with a better platter and base, and thwey take 1/2 inch mount cartridges as well and allow full adjustment and balancing of the tone arm - for good listening DO NOT get the "straight" DJ tone arms though, you'll ruin your records! Get either the S shaped arms, or make sure the head is angled in.

Keep in mind that a stylus (the "needle") should be checked at least every 300 hours, and is likely due for replacement after 1000 hours, earlier if your records are worn and scratchy.
If you cannot tell the difference between a cheap portable Walmart pocket CD player plugged into your stereo and a good full sized CD player, then the Technics BD20 may be for you, but if you can tell any difference at all, then do yourself a favor: Save the 120 bucks for a better turntable - you won't end up throwing it to Goodwill like so many have done (i've been through a lot of turntables - it's a hobby, and I keep peeking around what's out there)
The problem with the new cheap machines is that they are too light. Flimsy platters, and light flexible bases mean a plasticky sound.
If you can't afford a new 300 dollar machine you are much better of buying an old used table. SOME of tyhe Technics player were good, the later and current 1200 series is overrated and over priced. Technics models 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700, 1301 are suitable hifi players, never mind the DJ machines. Old Pioneer, Dual, Sansui, etc are all potentially good choices.

The bargain hunter's real secret for a cheap frills table are the OLD Sanyo, Hitachi, Pioneer, and a Dual semi auto model 510 is tue audiophile grade and can be on ebay for as little as 25 bucks and will not have the problems of the more complex full auto models!

Beware fully automatic stacking tables in any case. I love them and have a Dual belt drive collection, but they may take a lot of tinkering to get them to work right!
Look for a solid belt or direct drive machine with a platter weighing at least 2 pounds, preferrably with a floating chassis (the platter and arm are spring suspended). You can find them for under 50 dollars. Add a new cartridge (Audio Technica AT110, AT70, AT440, Shure M91, M97, or a Stanton - Ortofon is rated high, but always sounds dull to me) for around 50 to 100 dollars, and you have a much better setup. If that's too much see below for the Grado.
I have an Audio Technica OC-9 moving coil cartridge (expensive), but that is strictly used for burning CD copies. For daily listening the Audio Technica AT440 is hands down one of the best values, along with the Shure M97.
Grado has ONE offering worth the money, the "Grado Black", which retails for around 35 dollars - sensitive for feedback, but except for a slightly soft (but pleasant) base reproduction you can just about the grass grow with it! I say ONE offering, because the higher priced models are the same thing in a different wrapper. Wanna talk marketing???
Also keep in mind that you need a "phono" input on your stereo. If you have a modern stereo amp or receiver, chances are you don't have one. A so called phono-preamp will boost the player's signal for use in the "aux" input of your receiver. A good phono preamp is around 50 dollars.
So never mind the comments about built in phono preamps, the players that have them are mostly shoddy sounding.
Summary: the Technics BD20 is ok if you're on a budget, but you can do better with a little snooping and effort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent No-Fuss Turntable
Attempting to transcribe some rare soundtrack albums unavailable on CD, I discovered to my dismay that my venerable Dual automatic turntable - buried for more than ten years under several stacks of CDs - had given up the ghost.
    No strobe light.No motion.No nothing.Dead.
I saw the Technics SL-BD20D at a refurbished sale recently and decided to take a chance.I'm very glad I did; this is a solid no-frills turntable that does all the basics right and will satisfy the needs of all but the most demanding audiophiles.
I did replace the cartridge that came with the machine.Surface noise seemed excessive and the sound seemed a little distant or hollow; in fairness, there was other evidence that the refurbishers might not have done their job properly, and perhaps I bought a unit with a worn needle.
At any rate, equipped with a Shure MP94E P-Mount Cartridge, the SL-BD20D sounds great. As I say, it handles basics superbly. This is a serious turntable that will treat your vinyl with respect, not one of those retro novelty machines you see advertised.
The SL-BD20D has a straight low-mass tone arm, and the playing geometry is correct.I don't hear the sibilance at the end of record sides that I have heard when a cartridge is improperly aligned or a tone arm improperly mounted.Surface noise is surprisingly low.The servo motor and belt drive provide good steady speed, with no audible hum, wow, or flutter.
I read a user griping that you can't set the tracking force or anti-skating on this machine. The whole idea of the P-Mount design is you don't need to; P-Mount cartridges are designed to track properly at this machine's pre-set 1.25 gram force. After several hours of playing records, the SL-BD20D with the Shure cartridge has tracked perfectly, never skipping once in either direction.
With the low-mass tone arm and anti-resonant base, bass is full but well damped.I am listening to Fleetwood Mac doing Rhiannon now, and it sounds as good as I remember ever hearing it - even with my beloved old Shure V-15 Type IV.
The SL-BD20D is a semi-automatic design; you lower the stylus onto the record with the well-damped cueing mechanism, and the machine returns the tone arm to rest and shuts off automatically at the end of the side.
As someone who grew up with generations of what we used to call record players, from Webcors to Garrards to Miracords to Duals, I have seen my share of eccentric and unreliable mechanisms.I am happy to report that the mechanism on the SL-BD20D works very quietly, with smooth and precise movements.Traditional Japanese attention to detail.
Otherwise, the SL-BD20D is handsome and comes with a hinged smoked dust cover, 45 adapter, and full-sized turntable to support your vinyl properly. It should be noted, however, that the unit does not include a preamp.
You can spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on an audiophile turntable. But if you simply want first-class sound with a minimum of fuss and bother, you can have the SL-BD20D with a good cartridge that's a snap to install for well under $200.That's impressive indeed.

    3-0 out of 5 stars solid turntable , but no built-in pre-amp
This is a great basic turntable if you're just looking to play the old LPs, however, be warned that if you plan on hooking this up to a mini-stereo system without phono jacks, then you'll need to purchase a seperate pre-amp which runs around [dollar amount]. This brings the total cost of the unit to about [dollar amount] which is not worth it if you're just a casual user of LPs (plus this is only a semi-automatic). You'd be better off purchasing a cheaper system (e.g. the sony) with a built-in pre-amp so that it can connect to mini-systems.

4-0 out of 5 stars Technics Stands the Test (For the Casual LP Listener)
I personally own this turntable. It is not a heavy duty dj constructed turntable such as their MK 2 series or the new M3D. It was designed by Technics for practical and casual in home use.It provides excellent and almost perfect accuracy with regard to very low wow and flutter (speed differences that would audibly affect playback). This is for the couch potato who likes to put an lp on and not have to worry about turning it off.The semi-automatic operation takes care of that.In addition, anti-skating and tone arm weight adjustments have already been pre set at the factory so there is no guess work for the owner. The plug in cartridge is easy to replace without having to gauge stylus contact and performance as with a pro dj turntable. However, heed my warning, here are the drawbacks:If you are a heavy vinyl user and enjoy adjusting anti skating or counter weight balance for optimal high end quality sound, this is not the table for that. Their MK2 or M3D are the tables that are suitable for those tasks. Also, I have been able to compare this table's tracking abilities using a slightly warped record (warped around the edge only) and the SLBD20D could not keep up. However, when I tried it on a Technics M3D I was able to adjust the counterweight balance and tracking force, anti-skating, etc. and low and behold the M3D stood its ground.Don't get me wrong, the SLBD20D is a well constructed table run by a very quietbelt-driven dc motor. It's a fine simple machine that sets out to do the simple operation of just playing a record. Also, not everyone can nor is willing (on a tight budget)to fork over several hundreds of dollars for a dj turntable if their lp collection is very limited. This is a great budget turntable with the feel of remarkable Technics engineering behind it !!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I got them for $20
Based on the deal I got, $20, I can't complain. I have an average size head, 7 1/4 but I can see how they are tight on the ears and could be more comfortable.I simply slide them forward so they are more on my temples.I wore them for 3 hours with no annoyance. The reception was good once I dialed them in and haven't re-adjusted them yet. I walked around the house and out to the street and didn't lose clarity.I did lose it when I had 3 walls, 2 drywall and 1 brick but I don't plan on listening to tv out in the driveway often. For the money they were worth it and I can stay up and not bother the sleeping kid or wife.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Decent with TV
Not sure about range - I go outside with them but can't go real far.Receiver is sitting on the tv.I've had them for some time.Only complaint I have is that the AAA Rechargeable batteries I have won't work in them.I haven't tried lithium batteries, but I plan to.For the price, they do a pretty good job.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good quality to dollar value!
After reading some reviews I was skeptical but all I wanted them for was to sit at my desk in studio since strereos, or out loud playing of music, is against policy.I figured these would get the job done and wasn't expecting much.WOW, was I suprised!I love my music and I got much better sound quality than I expected for the money I spent. However, like all inexpensive product, the Jensen Wireless Headphones takes a while to tune into the right frequency and requires very fine tuning across a very wide band to get superior sound quality. If you want to save the money and get these, be prepared to have patience before enjoying at full potential.I give it 4 stars!

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorperformance
The only use I have found for these headphones is to use them directly in front of the TV. Even then the sound is extremely poor. Any sharp noises like clapping or drums comes out as static. I have to fiddle with the tuning constantly to keep the static down, and that's without moving around. If you position yourself just right, have the tuning just right, they are almost usable. Don't even think about using these for music as that experince would be painful with these headphones. I also cannot use these in most parts of the house as they tend to pick up noise from Fluorescent lights and cordless telephones quite easily. Do not waste your money on these, as they are not worth it even if they were free.

2-0 out of 5 stars Constant Adjestment

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent!
I am writing this review while using this wonderful headphones -listening "Juan Luis Guerra y su 440"-... They are just amazing!
Light, confortable, the sound is so clear that you can discriminate each instrument, just perfect and the price is as good as the product.
My daugther use them too when she is practicing at the piano -an electric one- and with her iRiver MP3. I will buy another ATH-M30 just for me.
They are so good, that it is the first product that I comment at amazon even though I am an using amazon almost since the begining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Headphones I've Ever Seen / (Heard)!!
These Audio Technica babies really let the sound in!Outstanding in every respect, IMO!

Listening to movies and CDs through these 'phones is a pleasure.Surround sound effects come through nicely when listening to 5.1-Channel or 2-Channel Surround material, with many subtle surround effects seeping through that you possibly had never heard when listening through your regular speaker system.

The sound reproduction on this product seems very "natural" and undistorted. And not "tinny"-sounding, like can be the case with many different headphone brands.

Extraordinarily comfy, to boot! The ear cups don't pinch, or dig into your head. The padded headband adjusts to fit the biggest (or smallest) of craniums. And they don't make your ears sweat like a nervous politician on Election Day (oh, sorry ... I should have said "perspire").:)

You can wear these things all day and suffer no ill effects on your head/ears. (Well, unless, of course, you lay too heavy on the volume control.)

It *is*, in fact, difficult to keep the volume in the "low"/"restrained" range while using these sonically-pleasing babies. Because they sound so good!

The ATH-M30 is an exceptional product; and a terrific bargain to be sure.

Hard to imagine even $100-plus 'phones giving better performance than these.

4-0 out of 5 stars great sound, great price, good comfort.
I recently purchased a new pair of these for around 50 dollars.Immediately I was pleased with the sound and comfort of these headphones, however, you may have to spend a little time fitting them on your head at first to keep them from hurting your ears.Although they are not terribly uncomfortable to wear for a few minutes, the size of the cups are a bit smaller than most professional headphones, and this makes them a bit uncomfortable for long-term listening as there is pressure on your ears.

Despite the uncomfortable pressure that may occur on the ears, these headphones are actually very comfortable to wear. They sound so good that I want to turn up the volume just to enjoy them more. The sound is clear, the bass is strong and clean but won't drown out the mid-tones or treble. The treble itself is sometimes lacking, but most of the time it isn't a problem. The individual sounds are heard so well with these headphones that if there is any extra noise or flaw in what you are listening to, you'll notice it immediately.

4-0 out of 5 stars nice
I have an older version of this headphone, and use it everyday for hours. It sounds very good, and for the price is very hard to beat for this type of headphone. My only complaint is that my ears hurt if i wear them for more than a few hours.

5-0 out of 5 stars Neophyte audiophile mighty impressed
After purchasing an iPod mini, I thought I could use much better headphones to test the quality of the aiff files provided by iTunes.I must emphasize that I am not an expert as the other reviewers. When choosing this pair, I read reviews and looked for high quality under 50 bucks. These headphones put my big stereo speakers to shame.I can hear the background singers and instruments I haven't heard before. They sound completely awesome! (no, really, they do). There is a little bit of leak, not much.and they are extremely comfortable and lightweight on the head.I'll be testing them out extensively this weekend while traveling on airplanes. Update on airplane use:they are not noise canceling headphones, but they did block the noise of a few verbally obnoxious passengers, and while volume was cranked up, no one knew how much the tunes were cranked up.My friends that have tried them out call them *amazing*, like a symphony hall.
Around the house, they block out flushing toilets, dishwashers, and those annoying sounds from the kids' room. The cord is super long, so I can keep my iPod in it's dock on the kitchen counter and walk around and cook dinner and clean. And the connector has a strain relief so I know that the cord won't break off from running around.
I also needed headphones to go with my laptop while watching DVDs and listening to music and other computer things.Unlike my other cd headphones, these are in stereo and pick up amazing sounds. Also, they block out the computer sounds of the dvd spinning.
I suppose they weren't made for household use, but they sound so good, that they will keep me happy for a long time, baby. ... Read more

    Amazon.com Product Description

These Street Style headphones employ the comfortable and stable behind-the-neck design. They have a spiral headband style, and with their non-slip design, they are ideal for a few laps around the track or for a walk to the corner market. The MDR-G73LPs are a metallic blue color and have a hi-tech, modern style. The behind-the-neck style is very appropriate for urban and casual wear; remember that with this style you can wear a hat while wearing the headphones. The headphones have a folding mechanism which allows them to be stored in a backpack or purse. The MDR-G73LPs were designed for extended wear, and, weighing in at under two ounces, you may indeed forget you are wearing headphones.

Sony has installed several technical features to the headphones to ensure a quality listening experience. The thirty millimeter drive units are large for portable headphones, and deliver deep bass, low distortion and a wide frequency response range (14 - 24,000 Hz). Sony's Acoustic Twin Turbo circuit achieves high sonic output by utilizying sound chamber and duct technology. Neodymium magnets give the headphones maximum energy at a minimal size and weight, while the oxygen-free copper cord provides high conductivity and minimum noise. The gold-plated stereo mini-plug makes sure that sound is transported fully and accurately. The gold-plated treatment also helps resist corrosion and supports the headphones' high conductivity and low noise. The five foot long, single-sided cord is plenty long for active pursuits.

5-0 out of 5 stars These are among my favorite Phones
It's interesting that some people say these are hard to wear. I find them by far the easiest to wear and the most comfortable of the behind-the-neck style. I wonder if they are trying to wear them like traditional phones? These are very light and stay on my ears (with glasses, by the way) better than most of the stiff plastic phones I've used.

I've owned many, many headphones over the years (Koss, Memorx, Panasonic, JVC), and Sony has been the most consistently good sounding brand I've had. The MDR-G73LP phones are no exception. They sound far better than the cheapos that come with virtually all portable devices (including Sony.) They aren't as good as my old MDR-V6 phones, which have been thoroughly abused over, what, about 15 years? And even though those V6's are physically shot, they still sound fabulous!

I recently bought the new sealed bud type phones (Sony), but I like the MDR-G73LP better. The sound is smooth, wide range, deep bass, and all around clean. My only complaint is that they don't seem to be the best FM antenna around. But with a CD player, they are excellent.

I can very highly recommend the MDR-G73LP!

1-0 out of 5 stars hard to get to fit right
These wouldn't even stay on without bending the spring wire.Unfortunatly, the wire is a flat spring steel, and you cannot just bend it without it distorting somewhere else. I spent over an hour trying to find the right way to bend the wire to keep them from just falling off.I got one configuration to work, but only if I did not move my head. They are very lightweight, or at least seem so, since they are usually falling off. I can not attest to the sound quality, as I never got so far as to plug them in.If you buy these, definitely buy a couple of pairs of pliers to assist in the custom fit. You will look really cool with these, no doubt, as you are cruising down the boulevard, constantly fidgeting with them, trying to keep them on your ears. $45 down the toilet.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice sound but terrible fit
I am searching online for a replacement of these phones. They are uncomfortable and feel like they'll slide off my ears at any minute.I've tried for a year to use these things. What a waste of money. They just feel awful.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best headphones I've ever owned
These are by and large the best headphones I've ever used. I'm a college student, and I have to cram my headphones into my backpack to use them after and between classes. Normal headphones usually break after a couple of weeks of this treatment, and earbuds get lost. But these phones have no rigid parts, just a bendy wire that connects the two cans, so they're extremely durable.

The connector loops behind the back of the head, which means they're great for outdoor use because they won't slip off the top of your head like normal headphones. They stay on by slipping partially behind your ears, so they're not on too tight and do tend to come loose every once in a while during very rough activities like jogging.

I find they give better sound and stay in better than ear buds, and they hurt my ears less than the headphones that clip directly onto the top of your ears.

So, for durability, comfort, and ability to stay in place, I highly reccomend these headphones. Plus, they look really cool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great headphones!
I use them for running and other exercise with an MP3 player.I've been through dozens of different styles, all with comfort, quality or usability issues. These are absolutely comfortable, stay in place without applying pressure and have good sound quality. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent spherical cartridge and stylus
For those Stanton fans who use conical styli, club DJs, 45rpm collectors (as most 45s are made out of styrene and not vinyl, if you use an elliptical styli, they are likely to scratch another groove on the disc surface which only ruins the discs if you use the cartridges too much on 45s), fans of spherical (a.k.a. conical) styli for its low cue burn, this is the cartridge for you.It is not intended for most hi-fi applications but for what it is, it is a great cartridge.I played a somewhat scratched vinyl of Amy Grant's "Unguarded" with this cartridge and the surface noise got reduced well with this cartridge while my Stanton 680 EL II (elliptical cartridge) which I recommend for most hi-fi purposes plays it with surface noise. This is the industry standard for spherical styli and cartridges and is one of the cheapest for this purpose plus the styli can easily be replaced.

3-0 out of 5 stars Be Happy It Won't Burn Your Records...
Those who are going to purchase this need to pay close attention to the fact that this is for studio-club standard or club DJ and scratching purposes. This is something to play records loud at a venue where the crowd is not going to be analyzing whether you used a mid-end or hi-end set up---who will care as long as the music is going. This also indicates that the Stanton 500 is not for audiophile casual listening purposes to play your favorite classical or jazz records for it's frequency range is somewhat limited and will not track very complex passages, especially loaded with high frequencies. Most low-burn cartridges will have a round stylus tip and not an elliptical or a costlier linear one. For those would not be DJ standard cartridges but your expensive in-home listening grades...The Stanton will get the job done, but it will not perform high end or audiophile quality sound or groundbreaking sonic miracles !

4-0 out of 5 stars Cheap, reliable, low cue-burn
This cartridge has a spherical stylus, which gives low record burn. The other review has it wrong. I have two on my 1210s and they work fine. I am going to upgrade to the Shure M44s some time because they give even lower record burn and have a higher output and wider frequency range.

2-0 out of 5 stars Low-End Stanton cartridge
Low End cartridge. A decent cartridge would have an elipitical stylus, and not damage your vinyl so fast. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad At All For The Price
I had to check these little guys out because I did want a full ear cap design and they were very inexpensive. Comfort-wise and price wise, I really couldn't have gone wrong. My only issue was that they had more of a midrange sound to offer; not very noticeable highs or significant lows. If you just need something to get you by, and you don't want to spend a lot, these are a great deal.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good headphones for the value, though has some problems
I don't know why people are complaining about $7 headphones. They are $7, they are probably the cheapest headphones with foam ear cushions! Anyway, these are not the best headphones when it comes to sound. One problem I've had with these headphones were VOLUME! The volume on these are extremly low even on my loudest setting on my CD player and the loudest setting on the headphones. The design was extremly comfortable. Though, for these headphones, they are perfect on a low and tight budget, but if you have a bit more cash, you may want to go look at some more expensive headphones and a better brand.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very good, but definately cheap.
I saw these headphones for $5 here on Amazon and thought I would give them a try. I wanted a pair of closed full cup headphones with a volume slider to remedy a problem with my Rio Volt SP150 (its lack of decent volume even at 40) these headphones are okay I guess, but the sound on them is crap, even if I plug them into my old CD player which has perfect high volume. These will probably make fairly good Computer headphones as PC's usually put out higher volume than CD players. I guess I'll just hafta deal with the earbuds that came with my Rio.

I could've gotten the same pair of phones at Big Lots for around the same price, maybe lower, but after S&H on these suckers its $15, I should've been smart and got the Jensen JF 20's for $19.

4-0 out of 5 stars i like them.
these are great headphones.i bought them for my computer.i was looking for a large, padded, comfortable pair of headphones to wear, so i could listen to my music on my computer without pissing off my parents.when i saw the price for these i thought, "hey, even if they suck, it's only five bucks, so what the hell."so i bought them. they work great.only 1 downside so far.because the top isn't padded, they are a bit uncomfortable, but this problem was easily overcome, i just hot-glued a little nylon strap between the 2 sides, like on other headphones.now they are really comfortable.other than that, they are great for $5.i'd say they are worth about $15, but after that, your asking a little much.i've only had them for a week or so, so i can't say much about the durability, but they haven't broken yet.they also have pretty good bass.don't try turning up the bass on a song without any, it makes it sound all distorted.all the other headphones i've had didn't do that, they simply didn't give any bass where there wasn't any.but, still, great headphones.they don't fall off easy either.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible
These headphones are first of all too small. If I had ears the size of a mouse I could wear them. Second the sound quality is horrible, they cannot hold bass or treble. All you hear is static, and it sounds like the music is playing from down the hall. Lastly the cord is too short and you have to strain if you are plugging them into the back of your computer. I would not recommend these, but they are cheap, really CHEAP! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The industry standard.
When a turntable remains the industry standard for more than 20 years, you should know there is good reason for it. A solid, reliable platform for any DJ's creativity. You don't need any of the fancy gizmos on the digital decks, all you need are these, some good tunes and a bit of imagination.
    Seriously ragged.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LIKE IT!
After years of contemplation I bought 2 Technics SL-1200MK2's. What a great descision! The first thing I noticed is how much better vinyl sounds than CD's. It takes long term exposure to digital audio to realize it, but the truth is that 44.1 16-bit or MP3's are both inferior to analog sound. This is especially true with my old records that were recorded, mixed, and mastered without digital compression technology.

I now realize why the Technics SL-1200MK2 is a world famous industry standard. Sonically it delivers a pure tone and it functions like a workhorse. It is very much appreciated that this model is still manufactured with such high quality. Technics has taken a stake to the industry that seems unbreakable. This product is one of the rare exceptions to the old saying: "They dont make them like they used to." The word on the street is that newer models may have problems and that only the SL-1200MK2 will do.

5-0 out of 5 stars rolls royce of turntables
I have been a Mastermixer for a quarter of a century. To get to the bottom line this is a must item. No other turntable will do!!!!!

    5-0 out of 5 stars 1200 mkII
The mighty 1200 will live on forever!! Yes, it does sound better than any CD player out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Proven and worth the price.
    This is a fantastic turntable.

I've used it personally both for casual listening and for beatmixing. It has excellent sound-dampening.The wow and flutter is non-existant.It should be noted that the platter itself on this table is the motor, so that and the tonearm are the only moving parts. Thus - no resonant background noise from within the turntable exists whatsoever.

You can typically get excellent sound quality from this table as long as you use an average or better quality cartridge.

Unlike other "DJ" turntables, this turntable was designed as a home turntable first. It is a DJ turntable by accident. This is why the SL 1200 is one of those few products that will give you the best of both worlds!

If you are a DJ, this is one of the only DJ tables that gives you Quartz pitch lock throughout the full +/-8% of the pitch range.

If you're serious about vinyl, pay the money and get the best. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice
I think these are very nice headphones for the above average listen.Every serious music fan needs to have a nice set of headphones. These are great they are not the best but for an unamplified source they do a dang good job.I have not had problems like some of the other people but these are my first real set of headphones and I have only had them for a couple of days but no complaints yet.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sennheiser HD-515 and a my experience with other headphones
HD-515 is an entry-level headphone to 500 series. It however fails its promise. the sound quality (especially the base is nasal) is not good over all. Being a 500 it has a design that makes it comfortable but the question you ask is that why is it so big in the first place? Even though I had reviews on it I'm of the opinion that for the less price you could get more or less the same quality. However hd-515's sisters are very different on the matters of quality. I do recommend buying one of its sisters hd-555 or hd-595, instead. If those are too expensive I would suggest buying hd-280 pro for just a little more.

Note that when you're reading reviews on headphones it is subjective for a great part. I will have to explain what my taste is before giving a review to hd-515. I like my headphones to be comfortable using it for hours in a row. 500 series have a good way of offering a design that assures a high level of comfort. I also wanted noise cancellation in the beginning when I bought my hd-280 pro. It doesn't really have noise cancellation but it is a sealed headphone. It means that blocks noise in virtue of sealing the area around your ears. I have found out (I might be wrong but in my experience) that noise cancellation works best for people around you and not you. It is not the case that just by putting one the headphones the noises inside would block all the noises outside - but that in high volumes you are surely to hear just your own sound (not your heart beat or your breathing but the sound generated by the headphone. Sealed headphones generally do the same thing (just put cups or your hands around your ears and you wouldn't hear sounds outside as well!). However that all comes at a cost. Sealed headphones are generally speaking lower in quality. Noise blocking works best for non-listeners unless the volume level is high. So if people around you have no problem with buzz sound of your music ("privacy" they call it) then go for open headphones. I wouldn't want to buy something that blocks the sound for the convenience of others! So I would buy open headphones and get advantage of better sound quality. Yet open does not mean that you can hear everything outside your cans and doesn't mean others could sit around you and listen!

My first headphones were sennheiser hd-280 pro a sealed headphones that are not very uncomfortable. I traded in because they weren't comfortable (and for mysterious reasons my ears were hurting). I didn't get a chance to burn the headphones and sold it as soon as I could -- headphones are like cars. You need to use it for a while to get a good sound and break it in so to speak. So don't be too disappointed in the beginning. I sold those headphones to my neighbor and he couldn't be happier. As I have said it is very subjective why some people like their headphones. I know that he is a gamer and his last headphone was broken. Other than that he has no preference on the comfortableness of the headphones. He had worn those for hours without any discomfort. Currently I have put an order for HD 595. I will write a very short review once I receive it.

2-0 out of 5 stars expensive and no good
I must say I bit into this Senheiser scheme. I paid a lot of money on a product that should not cost that much.
First of all I should say that I only paid 65 dollars for it and I still think it is much more than it is worth.

    Now the problems:
    1. It is called open air design or something like that, bottom line is everybody in the room and the neighboring rooms can hear what you are listening. What is the purpose of the headphones then? I could play my games using the speakers and have a better experience.
    2. The highs are too high and the lows are too low. First time you use them you say oh it sound great but after a time it gets annoying.
    3. These are supposed to be audiophile ones. I play my guitar sometimes at 2 at night, this was the reason for the new headphones (I got tired of my old ones - they had a very short wire). Now the problem is I use a lot of distortion and because the highs are too high and so on they are horrible. I went back to my old ones and I am only using these with my computer during the day or when nobody is at home.
Anyway my opinion is that I should have bought the $20 Phillips model that I used to have before these.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hear The Difference
I've read some different opinions of these 'phones and people have said they don't fit your head (this is ridiculous since they're adjustable) or that they are very easy to break, which in my experience it has been the exact opposite. I've caught the cord on things numerous times, had somebody knock them off of my desk, somebody even sat on them and they still remain the same as when I first purchased them. No scratches, cracks, disconnections or breaks of any kind. I would actually inform people that these are quite sturdy and durable instead of making it seem as though they will snap with the first wrong move.

The sound quality is just amazing for the price and as others have noted, they're much better all-around headphones than the Sony brand in the same price range. I tested both for long periods of time and gave them each a fair amount of burn-in. In the end the Sennheisers are a much bigger bang for your buck. As for them sounding like tin cans or even more laughable: sounding better when they're cupped by your hands, those statements are just entirely false as another reviewer has already pointed out. The sound becomes much worse when this is done because it takes away from the sonic accuracy and spatial experience. Maybe the reviewer who said this needs some new equipment or a better understanding of the way these headphones are supposed to work. When you buy open headphones (which, by the way, reproduce better sound than a closed pair) you should know what you're getting and the fact that people will be able to hear what you're listening to if they're close enough. The quality is much better, that's the difference and it's the reason they are made this way. If you're looking for privacy, grab the Sony V6.

All in all these are well worth the price tag and will definitely bring a smile to your face if they're your first, second, or even third dip into audiophile territory. However, you must keep moving up the line if your expectations become too high. Headphones in this range can only do so much and these most certainly get the job done for the tag attached to them. Be sure to give them a fair chance and a lot of burn-in before you judge them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent headphones
I got these specifically for mixing raw audio files and recording. These do a phenominal job of that, and they are comfortable enough for 5 hour listening sessions. There are probably better phones for mixing at this price range, but these phones are also extremely versitle.I'm at college, and having a nice pair of headphones to listen with while working is a definite plus.A huge improvement over my $20 Sennheisers.

At full volume, I don't hear any distortion. The package says that the parts are interchangeable in case of breakage---as headphones do break, so that's a definite plus.

Also, the reviewer who said that the sound quality improves when the ear pieces are covered---in my experience---is incorrect. The sound gets muddy, and the layers merge together. The headphones are of an open-design, and sound is supposed to leak out. These are not meant to prevent everybody else from hearing you---they are meant to sound phenominal. The mid-range is far superior to my friend's $140 Sony headphones, and the mids and the highs are on par (Sorry I don't have the Sony model #).After using them for mixing, I am glad I treated myself to them.My final recordings sound better because of them.

For versitle, quality headphones with excellent balance, layer separation and bass response (and overal tone), these are excellent headphones. For the price they are unbeatable in my book. They do leak out sound, however---as do many of Sennheiser's headphones. If you're looking for a closed design Sony makes very nice ones, but these sound incredible and are by far the most comfortable headphones I've used. ...
