5-0 out of 5 stars Jock's Cans of Choice!
When I started in radio 30 years ago...the first cans I used were Koss Pro 4AAs...
over the years I have used AKG's,Pioneers, and more recently Sennheiser HD500s
which I like...but call me sentimental...my wife got em for my birthday and they still
sound just like I remember them and still cost about the same...So there heavy...big deal..adjust. It is worth it...I missed the weight on my head and they sound great in the studio too! A+

4-0 out of 5 stars Yes they are heavy, but.....
As many people say they are heavy.21 ounces on the head as opposed to my old Sony 405's at 12 ounces. However after a couple of days use (and by letting the weight of the phones rest on my recliner) I now find I have adjusted. The sound is first rate, and only limited by the quality of the input. In reading other reviews I notice many complaints about the power requirements, but I seem to get better output at lower power levels than other phones with these. (at least on stereo recievers).I do have a big head, and yes they were tight, but the bands are made out of a good quality metal and will allow for slight and permanent tweaking for fit.Lastly, yes they are hot.All good closed cups are, but my solution while it may not be fashionable, is excellent and actually hygenic.I cut off the tops from an old pair of socks and slip them over the cups.Works fine, collects the sweat and dirt that would otherwise gross out the phones, and even allows multiple users to feel a little less intimate than they might want to be.For the price and quality there is no substitute.Thanx JPW

2-0 out of 5 stars OUCH MY EAR
When I first got the Koss Pro-4AA's they would make my ears feel like they were being ripped off my head after wearing them for 10 minutes or so. After about 5 months they stopped hurting my ears and the only pain came from the them weighing down on the top of my head. So, now after owning them for a year I can wear them for about an hour before the pain becomes too much. They sound great but they are most uncomfortable peice of head gear ever invented. I'm switching to some Grado SR80's, those are supposed to be the best headphones for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Koss Pro4aa
Superb! Sturdy construction, great sound, a great value. Much better quality than Bose, Sony or Sennheiser.

5-0 out of 5 stars It was a blessing disguised as a curse.
Initially, I had accidently ordered the 4aa, but once it arrived I put it on and have never heard Bjork so clearly. If your on the fence about these, Get 'em! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great quality sound and comfort, badly built
I bought these headphones and have been very happy. They are the best headphones I have tried and I have tried a lot of them. My ears hurt when I wear most headphones after a short time. With these, they never do, since the headphones don't touch my ears. It has a very comfortable pad that goes around the ear. You barely notice you're wearing them. The sound quality is amazing. It also has great bass for headphones with the tri-port system. I did have a problem with the quality of the plastic. Shortly after buying the headphones, the plastic piece that holds the adjustable band snapped while I was wearing them. I only use these headphones while sitting at my desk and they are well taken care of, but they still broke. Soon after that, the other side snapped. I had to use tape to hold my headphones together. Very annoying, but they still work great. I sent those in to be replaced by Bose. A month later, I got a new pair. A month after that, the sides broke on this one too. I still have that pair and am just using tape to hold the band together. I think it is rediculous that the band breaks while just wearing the headphones normally while sitting at a desk, but the sound quality is great which helps make up for it. When wearing the headphones and even with the music on very low, you can't hear anything else. The cup blocks out most of the sound and the music gets rid of the rest. I'd recommend the noise cancelling Quiet Comfort II over these since they are made better and have the noise cancelling. Though for the price, these are amazing headphones. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great if You Only Need One Headphone
Acoustically and ergonomically, the MDR-DS3000 is all that Sony claims it is. However, if you want additional headphones (MDR-IF3000) you will have to charge them one at a time on the base station, because no separate battery charger is available. With prolonged use and/or many headphones, juggling multiple headphones on one charger is sure to fail. If you need multiple headphones, perhaps a product line that provides extra battery chargers as well as extra headphones would be preferable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Quality Sound & Comfy
I've had this unit for about a month now. They are very comfortable to wear for long periods of time.Yes, there are better quality sounding wired headphones at significantly higher prices, but these are no "slouch".I listen to CDs and Radio AOL in the morning when I work at the computer. With my computer, I use the regular wired analog connection tied into a standard 1/8" stereo plug that's connected to my computer's headphone jack.I have the input select switch on the left of the base unit set to "analog" (you have a choice between digital and analog), and the effects switch on the right of the base unit set to "music" (you have a choice between "off", "cinema" and "music").Stereo sound with Radio AOL, which is CD quality, is very good.Sound is crisp...bass, while not overwhelming, is realistic. Separation is very good. There is a minute bit of hiss, but I do not find it troubling. You typically notice it only between songs, and at very high volumes that probably aren't good for your ears anyway.More on that later...

Please note that this Sony unit has a dB attenuation switch on the back that allows you to decrease the sound output level.I have not had a need for this, so I've kept it set to zero. When I first took it out of the box, it was set to (-). Make sure you experiment with this before panicing that the unit is dfective.Set at (-), this caused me to increase volume significantly in most applications, and this caused a corresponding jump in hiss.If it's set at zero, hiss is not a problem (at least for for me).

You can keep this unit connected to your computer or sound system with the analog set up described above, and can, at the same time, keep it connected to a DVD player with the optical output and cable they supply. For surround sound applications, I set the input selector on the left side of the base unit to "digital", and put the effects switch on the other side to "cinema".I have tried the unit on my DVD player with several regular movies, and also a good quality THX movie - Finding Nemo.I find the sound to be excellant with very good surround sound separation results.Again, a very slight bit of hiss in the background at higher volumes, but I don't find it disturbing.

One thing about hiss: When I researched several of the RF technology units out there (most are 900 mHz like cordless phones), some reviewers complained about varying hiss as you moved about a room, and commented that it seems to vary with things like cordless phones in close proximity. That does not happen with this Sony, and is one of the reasons I think hiss may not be as noticable as some of the RF technology units. Also, because it's IR, I don't have interference with my cordless phone, wireless keyboard, etc.

Range of the unit in my application is as advertised - about 20 feet or so...then, it begins to fade out.Within the 20 feet, the sound volume remains absolutely consistent.Just stay line of sight with the base unit, and inside the 20 foot range, and the sound remains strong and consistent.

The "auto off" and "charge in the cradle" features are great. As soon as you take them off, they shut off. It's a little tricky to set the headphones in the base unit to charge them, but this is no big deal. The charge holds for quite some time...I have yet to exceed it (I've used them for 6-8 hours straight several times with no problem).

I bought these on Amazon for about $140 right after Christmas. That price was a "steal".I've seen them advertised for over $200 at some sites!!Sony sells a similar but higher-end model - the MDR-DS8000.But I wasn't willing to spend the $500 bucks or so for that unit.Alternatives I considered: Seinnhauser RS65, Amphony 1000, Advent AW720.The Amphony is highly recommended by Consumer Reports, but has been replaced by the Amphony 2000 and 2500.Seinnhauser is a quality name, and the Advent seemed to be value priced. At the end of the day, I guess I felt comfortable with the Sony name so I bought these.

As of the date of this writing, I could not find product reviews comparing wireless headphones against each other, except for Consumer Reports, and that study is old - 11/02 (it did not include this unit in the comparison). Also, try and find a retail store that will let you try ANY wireless headphone!! They all keep them in the box...can't take them out...it's frustrating.

I love the freedom of wireless headphones. While these Sonys may not pass muster with the most conceited of audiophiles, the average person with average to above average sound quality requirements will find this unit desirable and a good value.

Hope this helped...

3-0 out of 5 stars Does not work with Plasma TV!
I bought it 2 weeks ago. As soon as I turned it on after connecting to DVD machine, I got this huge noise. I had to put my headphone very close to the base in order for clean sound. Then I read this one line text in the instruction manual that this system uses infrared and does not work with Plasma TV. Sure enough, as soon as I turned off my plasma tv, the sound became clean. But I bought them mainly for watching movies late at night. Now they are really useless to me. If you have a plasma tv, do not buy this!

The headphones sound pretty mellow. I didn't get enough base when playing Return of the King. And the positioning of the sound is really unclear. The only bright side is when listening to stereo audio source, it sounds very clean and natural.

Auto on/off is nice. Putting back to the base to recharge requires practice. It should have more than one digital connection input. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Has Potential
This device has some potential, but it's not close to being a professional tool. Don't plan on taking this thing on the road. One small bump and you'll hear loose screws shaking inside. The play/cue buttons are terrible too, so mixing and blending can be a pain when you have to press the button repeatedly for it to play. I can't seem to get a scratch effect either, though it's supposed to be capable of it. If that sound it makes when you spin the wheel is what they are calling scratch, then the effect needs some work. If you're just doing house parties and/or want a DJ toy, get this. Otherwise get turn tables (CD or Vinyl) and Final Scratch.

1-0 out of 5 stars Think very carefully
1, The buttons are VERY poor leading to many miss-cues.
2, The "full Professional" software IMO isn't, it's a cut down version and has many fundamental unresolved flaws (BPM detection, sound quality, no id3 tags, poor eq, etc).
3, Early hardware versions may need returning to manufacturer for upgrade/fix before the console is usable.
4, Current Problems with Win's stand-by & Hibanate may mean frequent unpluging of USB to fix lock-ups.

An amusing toy, i kept mine but i will not buy from Hercules or Atomix again.

5-0 out of 5 stars very cool

2-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Idea...Uncertain Reality
As a person who loves electronic music and DJ's, I was very interested in the DJ console.I bought one and tried it out with the included software, as well as Mixvibes (www.mixvibes.com).The results were mixed (no pun intended). While the unit works, it has its problems. There is some major latency between using the console and response from the software (25-50 ms).But worst, about every 5 minutes or so the unit sends false data to the software. So you could be mixing between 2 songs and have a perfect beat match, and suddenly one channel will speed up or slow down randomly, ruining the mix.Or you can have a song cued to a specific spot, and suddenly the song starts moving slowly backwards as if you were turning the jog wheel.I got these random signals in each software package which means it must be a driver problem or a problem with the console itself.I contaced Hercules but they haven't been much help, despite the fact that users on other web forums are experiencing the same thing. So the bottom line is, it's an interesting and fun thing to play around with, but if you want to try doing serious mixing, get a better controller like the PCDJ DAC-2 or Numark DMC. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Audio Experience!
After one month of listening I say:Wow, these sound great!

Considerations which influenced my purchase: I wanted to plug-in to a variety of sources.I didn't want to mess around with a separate headphone amp. Also, comfort wearing headphones for hours at a time while watching movies was a consideration.Personal trial comparisons were out because the local audio market isn't large enough to support a wide range of options so after reading the reviews of several models I just googled for price and dealer comparisons.Ended up paying $181.24 + shipping through an Amazon affiliate called a_hallelectronics@yahoo.com out of Phoenix (no phone number!).Headphones were sent USPS Priority Mail, a good thing because the padded manilla envelope was totally insufficient... granted, it didn't show signs of having suffered any impacts, but I'm chalking that up to blind luck.A solid box was definitely called for given the price/quality of the item.

I listen to a wide range of music:Classical, jazz, rock, new age, folk and world beat. The sound is transparent and bright with no trace ofharshness even with Depeche Mode.Very uplifting!

5-0 out of 5 stars Intro to Audiophile Headphones
If you think that you have a discerning ear and you don't want to spend a ton of money on headphones the hd-590s are the best place to get your feet wet.I did a bit of research and chose these over the comp grado's for personal aural peculularities. So, do your own investigation. These Headphones will not disappoint.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite good for the price
These are great, great headphones, at bargain price. I've used them mostly with a NAD C340 amplifier but also did some listening with cheap portable players. They are extremely comfortable, which is always a plus if you plan to listen for a long time. The structure looks good, very lightweight, but I still think some of the plastics used look too cheap, I guess build quality in general looks cheap, the glue under the Sennheiser rubber strip on the top, etc. Maybe Sennheiser decided to focus the cost on the transducers, because they sound a lot better than they look.

Even so, not all that fragile, design is very effective, the headband is large and adjustable, the soft cloth pads are very pleasant. Overall, these headphones are EXTREMELY comfortable, probably the most comfortable headphones I have ever tried. The longevity of the HD590 is assured since all vital components can be replaced when damaged. The OFC cable has the usual detachable mini-jack (one wire only, attaches to left transducer) always useful if you keep tripping on the cable or need an extension. The velour pads are also easy to remove (which is good since they seem to pick up dust like a vacuum cleaner). Also, keep in mind that they are very permeable to ambient noise because of the open design. If you plan to use them in noisy environments, that might be a problem.

When it comes to sound, some people think the treble is inexplicably sharp and intrusive, probably making these more adequate for jazz and classical. They are indeed very bright, but I don't find them fatiguing or excessively harsh. True, these excel in detail with classical and all acoustic, but also sound pretty decent with completely different sounds from Rage Against the Machine to Bauhaus. Very high resolution, with natural bass, not too punchy, but enough to please most listeners.

Yes it is true, the Sennheiser HD 600 are also amazing headphones, a lot darker than these, but still great. There is a catch however, at 300 ohms the 600 need lots of juice, definitely not easy to drive with maximum quality unless you have a dedicated headphone amp or a very good integrated amp. The 590 don't need a dedicated amp, at only 120 ohms nominal impedance, they are easy to drive, even from laptops, portables and other low output sources. When it comes to sound quality, there's really nothing like picking a few models and listening before choosing (to the right CDs). Your opinion might be completely different. To me, while not perfect, these are definitely in my list of favourite non-electrostatic headphones. I also own the pricier Sony MDR-CD3000 (a fairly high-end model often considered superior to such beasts as the Grado RS-1, the HD 600/650 and the AKG K1000) and comparing the two I can say that at about 33% of the 3000's price, the 590 sound very, very good. Ok, so not as good as the 3K, but still great value for money in the market of circum-aural open headphones. ... Read more

Sennheiser's HD570 headphone replaces the discontinued HD545 model. Like the model it replaces, the 570 uses an open-ear design that lets you clearly hear environmental sounds but also allows other listeners in the room to hear the music being played. The 570's earpieces also have a sharply pointed bottom, designed to more closely encircle the ear--those with particularly large ears may even find these snug. However, like all Sennheiser headsets, the 570s are extremely comfortable to wear for long periods of time, assuming the fit is good.

And, like almost all Sennheiser headphones, the HD570s have a rich, seductive midrange and deep, authoritative bass response. Where this set differs from most of the line is in its top end. The 570's high frequencies are more pronounced than the usual Sennheiser sound, as typified by the glorious HD600 and now-obsolete HD580. If you find the sound of those headsets on the dark (high-frequency restricted) and unexciting side of accurate, you'll likely be delighted with the tonal balance of the 570. On the other hand, if you find those models just right, you'll hear the 570 as bright, possibly even extremely bright (with accentuated treble response).

Of course, this also depends upon the source components you listen to. Cassettes and underpowered portable CD players might actually benefit from the 570's high-frequency boost, whereas most receivers or separate headphone amplifiers don't need it. Because the HD570 wants a fairly substantial signal to sound its best, however, it should not be used with most portable players. Dedicated amplifiers produce the best sound.

This is a comfortable headset with a different tonal balance from most Sennheisers. We suggest careful consideration (abetted, perhaps, by a 30-day return policy) before committing to living with the HD570. However, if this is the sound you're looking for, the HD-570 is rugged and extremely well constructed. You'll get a lifetime of use out of them. --L.V. Phillips

Pros:

  • Lightweight design and padded headband make them comfortable forhours of listening
  • Low-distortion Duofol diaphragms provide exceptional detail andclarity
  • Single-sided cable makes it easier to move around while wearingheadphones

Cons:

  • 64-ohm impedance level makes headphones difficult for most portableplayers to drive; works best with dedicated headphone amplifier
  • Somewhat bright (trebly) tonal balance may strike some listeners astoo much of a good thing

5-0 out of 5 stars Sennheiser Rocks
I've had the HD570s for over a year now and I use them EVERYDAY.I originally thought 100+ was too much for headphones, but I never regret purchasing these! The headphones are very comfortable and the sound quality is phenomenal.I highly highly recommend these to everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great price for audiophiles, but indeed, fragile.
There are no other headphones that compare to this one in sound fidelity, comfort AND price. Definitely great sounding headphones. All those reviews claiming bass response is low or treble is too high are overstatements, and probably didn't allow some hours of break-in.
The higher fidelity the headphones are, means usually you will have higher resistance, these being 64 Ohms. Some of the professional headphones use 120 or even 300 Ohm drivers. Of course you'll get lower volume, some of these are meant to be used in quiet studios (open-aural requires quiet places) and professional equipment (good quality amplifiers)! However I found these to suit my needs perfectly, as it can still respond loud enough for my cdplayer and mp3player (it will still blast my ears if cdplayer volume is maxed). My computer will play it the loudest, being able to hear it all around the room without them on.

I really love the sound of these headphones, but care has to be taken, for mine also stopped working in the right ear. Sometimes it can be due to not plugging in the the cable completely, but in my case, it did stop working. Try to use this at home, if you're careful, you can take them around the neck, but my advice is don't carry them around in a bag. T_T sob.

So for those who just want lots of bass and usability with portable devices (low wattage, high volume), just go for a pair of low-impedance(32 Ohm) HD457, they are even cheaper. You probably won't notice the fidelity with all that loud volume and bass blasting, but compared to the HD 570, makes it sound like crap IMO. Remember, HD 570 are high fidelity, budget, and audiophile oriented headphones, and if you like music as it is meant to be appreciated, get these. You'll hear sounds you never knew were in that cd, and clarity that will blow you away. However, if you just want it to be used with portable audio, and don't care about sound quality i'd recommend any sony headphones, and spend your 80-100 bucks elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Award-winning for a reason.
I've had these headphones for about five years, and I love them. You must know their purpose before you buy them, though. They're for private listening in a studio or your own home. You should not take these on a subway. They're MEANT to be healthy and circuitous for your ears, and thus they're not isolating. You'll hear other things as clearly as you'll hear the music. It's just like having a stereo system on your head. There's other sounds you can hear, too. They have a lower amount of midrange, that's for sure, but the highs are absolutely gorgeous, and the bass is just right. I love these headphones, and it isn't surprising that they've hardly gone down in price since I bought them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too treble to be a top one
This headphone is far from satisfactory, especially for me,
because I listen to violin a lot. The high is treble like needle, which is rather disturbing. Although the total balance is fairly good, the over-bright feature repels me a lot.

Seriously, I do NOT recommend HD570 for classical music lovers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sound OK, but way too fragile
These headphones are really comfortable, and sound OK, but the cord they come with is really awful. The 1/8" -> 1/4" adapter is flaky, and started giving me problems almost from the beginning. Also, the cord is really thin, so it tends to get wrapped up on everything. And the other day, the right side just stopped working.I can't recommend these headphones... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Sound Quality!
I was looking to buy a good quality headset to hook up with Yahama P120 digital piano and Onkyo SR702 receiver. Someone recommended this headset to me. The sound quality is superb. SONY has detailed specifications on its dynamic range, response.

From my listening experience both from the Yamaha P120 digital piano as well as SACD played from SONY DVPNS775 via ONKYO SR702, the sound from this headset is amazing. I can hear all the details and nuances from piano music, orchestra work. For example, when in the first movement of Rachmaninov No 3, there is a very very "light and sutble" string accompaniment from th violins, I can hear that very very well on this headset. When there is no output from the Onkyo Receiver, there is NO blank noise at all.

I was considering to buy Bose QuietComfort II to upgrade my Bose QuietComfort I. I am happy that I bought this SONY. I compared the sound quality of this SONY MDR7509 with Bose QuietComfort I (not II, the new one), the sound quaility of SONY MDR7509 is way way better. The Bose's dynamica range (they do NOT publish it by the way) sounds much much less, much details from the piano and orchestra music is missing and there is a lot of blank noise when there is no output from the Onkyo receiver.

The shortcoming of SONY MDR7509 is that it is not as light weight and comfortable as the Bose QuietComfort I(not sure about II) and doesn't actively or eletronically cancels the enviromental noise. I really care about sound quality, SONY is superb in that respect.

One big problem I have with Bose is that they do not publish their technical data besides weight and dimension. When you call them to ask their frequency range, noise ratio, selectivity, they won't tell you. Instead they ask you to go their show room to try. In their show room, you will compare their products to nothing. And of course, they will most likely look good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good sounds
this thing works well.course i'm not into the scratching game, so i can't speak on that.but it spins stuff and makes pretty dust noises when i listen to dusty records.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginning!
I got two of these turntables right now at home. They are what you expect for the price. The price is irresistible.

If you expect high torque, good cartridges, don't bother buying. The Staton 30's have enough torque for the beginners but not for the pros.

I give the Stanton 30b's a 2.5/5 on torque, they could've made it alot better. If you need more torque look at the Stanton 80's or Numark TTX's for the pros.

This is great for starting and you will enjoy them for along time just like I have. I wouldn't suggest another turntable for the beginners.

If you get them you will enjoy them!

5-0 out of 5 stars very good
this is a very good mp3 player. It only has 64mb but it plays track very good.It never skips but my advice is dont drop it because if u drop it on the wrong spor it can like open up but all u have to is push it back togetheryea just dont drop it

4-0 out of 5 stars Works Great, added 1 gig Sandisk SD :)
This is a great cheap player, nice interface.

You can add the one gigabyte SD cards.(I bought a 1 gig Sandisk for cheap), you may need to update the firmware (you should anyway, it is very easy to do).

Only took off a star because the SQ while excellent was not up the the Rio Karma I own (I guess that is expected as that may be the best sounding DAP on the market). SQ overall is great but I want everything for nothing and dont hand out 5 stars :)

5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic little thing
I love this mp3 player! I've had it for about 1 1/2 years. It has been through a lot, and it's still working fine. If you bought one, you probably wouldn't abuse it as much as I did. Mine has been through drops, some water, and just some general wear and tear, but all it has to show for it is a few scratches!
One of the reasons I chose Rio was because of the large screen, with which I could see much of the info about the song, like the artist and album. Many others have only one line of info, and you must wait for it to scroll or something like that. Also, the rubber outside is a plus. It feels very nice, and has a nice grip. It could definetely have more memory, but since it has a memory card slot, it isnt really a problem for me. Some of the new Rio players, and many other mp3 players, have a stick control, where one stick controls all of the play/pause etc. This Rio has a larger control pad, which I find to be much easier to use. The FM tuner...is a piece of junk. I could only get 5 or so stations that were remotely clear. Also, the stopwatch is very hard to use. You have to go through the menu and select your stopwatch mode in order to start/stop your stopwatch. Then, if you want to go back to your player mode, you must go through the menu again. But overall, this mp3 player is definetly worth the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Except for MMC Compatibilities
I had this mp3 player for almost about a year now and so far it has been really worth my money. Talking about the cost it is cheap and the performance is great save for i have to constantly buy new batteries, i guess the power consumption of this player is not that efficient.

I also bought myself a new 256Mb MMC and its quite frustrating to know that the player can only detect 128Mb while searching for additional info, the official support site said that it can support upto 1Gb. I upgraded to the latest firmware and yet it can only detect upto 128.

Aside from my MMC frustration, this device works perfectly well i dropped it several times and yet its still functioning properly except for the FM tuner. Im located here in the Philippines and the only radio stations who have good reception can be heard properly.

I considered buying a new mp3 player but i just settled for a new MMC since after a year this player still works fine for me. I can appreciate help for my MMC problems and i hope the support releases better versions of the firmware to support MMCs.

1-0 out of 5 stars piece of junk
i bot this player about a year ago
and guess what its already making buzzing sounds
i e-mailed their customer service , and they tell me
to get new headphones. I GOT NEW HEADPHONES
IT STILL BUZZING.
the radio feature never worked right. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible sound quality- like a cheap radio (I returned them)
This sony PRODUCT MDR-RF975RK was aweful. The volume was very low, I had to crank the volume on my sterio to hear anything, there was lots of static and as you moved around it would suddenly turn into a deafening screeming sound.I was unable to use these comfortably at home or at work.In neither place do I have a cordless phone, but there was tons of interferance and they were so abrasive to my ears I gave up beacuse I was afraid I'd get ear damage.I let them charge for a full 24 hours before I used them.
I would not even try these- they sound worse than a 2$ raido speaker. My guess is that you have to have a chord, or maybe infared technology instead, or maybe you can;t live in a city ( like I do), and must not have any electornics anywhere near them.
I bought these from ( and returned them to) Vanns, which was A GOOD COMPANY to deal with. I thank Vanns for refunding my money so quickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleased UNTIL these died completely
I've had these for about 6 months. They sound great and work very well far from the source. To me the most important part of the headphones is how comfortable they feel. These feel good, but I eventually feel the need to remove them [perhaps it's the earrings].
AMENDING my review to ONE STAR: these headphones stopped working after about 8 months

1-0 out of 5 stars Died after 40 days
I was very happy with the headphones until one afternoon they stopped working. I played with the controls and modes without luck. I moved them around on my headand they began working again (as if a wire was not making good contact somewhere). The next day they died completely.

I called sony since they were still under the 90 day waranty and after two long phone calls they said that they are eligable for replacement. However, they will be replaced only with a refurbished set that is "similar", but the person on the phone could provide no details on what kind of replacement this would be.

For the price I would expect better service (ie money back, replacement with new unit), and that they would last more than fourty days.

1-0 out of 5 stars Think twice.
After receiving the headphones and following the directions to charge 24 hours, they worked fine the first couple times they were used. Then I began noticing that the indicator light on the base showed the power on when they were not in use.Shortly after, the headphones started to die after a few minutes use and would not recharge even when left as long as 2 days undisturbed.

Sony instructed me to send them in for service. After many, many follow-up calls I was told that my headphones could not be repaired and I would be sent a replacement. After many, many more calls Sony informed me that there were no replacements available and none expected within the foreseeable future.Sony offered me a full refund of the purchase price, which I accepted.

After 3 months I am again looking for a set of wireless headphones. The Sennheiser RS-65 set looks good to me.While I applaud Sony for doing the right thing and issuing me a refund, I cannot recommend this Sony product.

3-0 out of 5 stars Light wt, easy to use, battery will not charge correctly
We bought the 900 MHZ unit because of its light wt. and distance of use.We spent the first 48 hr charging it like directed, it should have taken 24 hr., but the light did go off finally. The unit worked great all around the house with very little static. After using it 5 days the battery ran out, we put it on the recharger for another 48 hours, and the charging light never went off as directed telling us it was now charged compleatly. We called Sony and was informed the battery charge light and charge should shut off after 24 hours if not it is defective and should be replaces or repaired. We took it back and got another unit only to have the battery light never shut off after 36 hours the first time around.Sony no longer has any service centers and sends you to "Parts/Accessory Inquiries" these people know even less about this device. Are the direction wrong, will the unit battery give out from over charging, will the head set finally not recharge at all, for $150.00 thoses are big questions. ... Great product but comes without a cartridge! Make sure you order a cartdrige at the same time ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for mixing, recording, DJing.
This turntable allows you to play 33 rpm, 45 rpm, and 78 rpm!
You can also touch a button, and the record will play in reverse (without missing a beat).
You can adjust the pitch way beyond the scope of other record players.
You can adjust the tempo, and keep the pitch consistant with the original tempo!!Think about that one for a minute...
Overall, you should check this out.And chuck that dinosaur you've got, whattaya call it, oh yeah, the technics 1200.

3-0 out of 5 stars A professional tool
I haven't owned a turntable since the seventies, so this seemed like an excellent device to hook up to my computer and turn all those great old LPs into CDs. Much to my consternation, it ships without a needle ("cartridge" to you audiophiles). What's that about? For someone who has only purchased cheap all-in-one sound systems, this required a minor research project. Research project #2 will be how to get it connected to my computer. Yes, it has a "digital ouput" port -- S/P DIF (which means Sony/Phillips Digital Interface), with an RCA jack. All the ports on my sound card are 1/8" mini-stereo. What next? I have to admit that this is a beautiful piece of equipment-- elegantly designed, but clearly targeted at the knowledgeable DJ... But, help the beginner, unless, like me, your thrills come from climbing learning curves. I'll write another review when I get it working! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Peformance, Mediocre Comfort
    Pros:
-Good sound quality. Good clear treble and good bass for headphones
    -Volume control
    -Sturdy construction

    Cons:
-Uncomfortable on ears after 15-20 mins
-Seperate knobs for volume make it hard to keep the volumes equal in the two channels
-Earphones have very limited range of motion
-Sound bleeds out when earphones are covered
-Sound bleeds through when volume knobs are turned completely off
-Coiled cord doesn't stretch very far before it yanks your headphones off

    Bottom Line:
I really don't think they're worth the $$$. Comfort is a high priority of mine and these rank pretty low. My old Aiwa headphones were way better.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Beautiful TD-80s
I've been in love with the Koss TD-80s since the early to mid nineties as an adolescent entering the likes of Nirvana and Bush. At that time, I only had enough money to purchase the TD60s, which were a fine introduction to the Koss line that I grew to love.

Today, sadly, I can't commend Koss for their product changes--the introduction of the UR series, which I ridicule, "U-R stupid for buying them", and their incessant failure at making good earbuds beyond the delicate "Plug"...

However, I still hold true to their classic products, and this model is one of them. During those adolescent years, my only ability to listen to these headphones were by way of visiting downtown music stores whom displayed their latest releases at listening stations complemented by the Koss TD-80s. If there was something to be heard, the Koss TD-80s gave it. Whenever I wanted to buy a CD, if it were not on the TD-80s, I would think before buying it in fear of poor production, for if it were poor production, the '80s would let you know...

I recommend these headphones as a household reference for anyone moderately serious about their music. Yes, Sennheiser may be for the purist, and Sony may be for the everyday-er whom works out and advances in their professions or schoolings, but the classic Koss is simply for anyone who wants to hear and feel their music. In addition, given the age of this model, the bargains of today on this headphone is ridiculous and should make anyone in the market for closed headphones consider them.

5-0 out of 5 stars 60 Ohm Impedence - Lot of headroom reduces distortion
Closed-earpiece headphones no matter the brand are not comfy for extended wear! The reason for purchasing these headphones is the 60 Ohm impedance. The higher the impedance rating allows you to listen to your home stereo, boombox, mp3 player, etc. at higher volumes without any distortion so you get great clarity and definiton from the bass, mids and highs. Also, you can plug this set of headphones into a stage monitoring system or instrument amplifier with the same great results. The Koss line of headphones are an exceptional value. Notice the cost of other manufactures' headphones that are rated at 60 ohms and above and you will see what I mean. No! I do not work for Koss, just an informed shopper!

2-0 out of 5 stars Dont get them!Spend the Extra money!
I was debating between these and some facier pairs on ebay and boy did I regret it.These are heavy, bulky, and not comfortable on my ears. They sound pretty good, the base is great, but not worth giving up comfort. My neck even hurts wearing these because the headphone are so heavy. Its like putting a textbook on top of your heard for a couple of hours. Its also such a relief when i take them off for my ears.My ears were red. They should make them out of more plastic rather than metal.Next time I will spend the extra [money] to get a better pair.

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely a good buy!
I really love these headphones. They have volume control on each ear cup which is great when you have one ear that hears better than the other, like I do. I also love that the headband itself is made of metal not plastic, so you can stretch them out to fit your head without worrying about breaking them. The ear cups are adjustible too, so I can turn them slightly to fit my ears. I have also noticed that my ears don't sweat as much as with some of my other headphones. The cord is coiled so I don't have a long cord constantly hanging behind me and dragging on the floor. The sound is also pretty good, I've heard better but these are nice for all the features and the price. The only thing I don't like is the fact that the inner part of the ear cup has nothing covering it. You have a nice cushiony padding around the rim and on the inside, nothing, just hard plastic. It almost looks like it's not finished. Besides this problem, I would definitely recommend these headphones. ... Read more
