Do NOT Buy
I bought this to use with my GPS receiver. I never got that far. After following the (poor) directions and running software, it promptly shut my machine OFF. Not just an error message or locking Windows up, it shut the whole dang thing off. After rebooting, Windows indicated it had encountered a SERIOUS error and directed to a supposed fix from the manufacturer. I tried that and got the same result. Kachunk...off. To make matters worse, it had fried my sound card and I had to buy a new one. Boy, was I steamed.

Works great in Linux!
I love this unit and now have 2.It is the only USB-serial adapter I've found that works with no fuss under Linux.The only complaint I have is the bulkiness and the short cable supplied with it.

Pain to Install, but Good Overall
I don't know about the other OP systems, but if you are running Windows XP it is a pain to install!!!It took me 2 days before I got it running properly, and don't even think about calling tech support unless you enjoy being on hold for a half hour.When I finally got the software installed it worked out beautifully, I have not had any problems whatsoever with the adapter itself.So a few minor headached in the beginning with software installation but the over all performance of the adapter itself is excellent.

Don't waste your money.
I bought the -MAC version of this adapter one day at CompUSA because I needed to connect my Newton to my iMac. The first thing that I found out about it is the drivers are *very* buggy. The adapter also had to be plugged in when I booted up the iMac or the drivers wouldn't see the adapter. Same if I unplugged and replugged the adapter while the machine was running. So much for USB hot-pluggability!

Also, Belkin couldn't even be bothered to release Mac OS X drivers for this adapter. Though, considering the state of the OS 9 drivers, I don't exactly know if I'd want them.

All in all, you'd be better off with one of the USB-Serial adapters from Keyspan. (USB-PDA or High Speed) I'm going to pick one up as soon as my budget allows.

Extension Conflicts Abound
I bought the Belkin Express hub because it looked neat & the lights indicating functional USB devices were important. However, over a year after buying it Belkin still has not made available software that will work with OS 9.Belkin's extensions for the Mac conflict with most other USB device extensions, including Apple's.In order to get this thing to work, I have to unplug it, start the computer, then plug it in after start up, use the device I want, then unplug it after I'm finished with the device. Otherwise, all my settings get mysteriously changed (Remote Access, printer selection, modem selection).If you want to use it for a Palm device or an older printer, use Keyspan's adapters instead. I have one & have had much fewer problems with it than this thing,The installer also installs a mysterious "printer patch" file on your hard disk, but gives you no indication where this file should be or what it does. The lights were helpful to a certain extentin that they blink to let you know thata signal has been sent to the device, however there are 4 green lights & 1 red light on each unit, regardless of how many items you can plug into it &there is no documentation that explains what different light combinations or blinking means, so you have to guess. A fair deal; the insurance policy is only good up to $1500, but the requirements are not onerous (you register online, and then you must file a police report within 72 hours after theft, you must mail them within seven days.) They pay the blue book value of your computer, whatever that is. The policy is only good for a year, however, and it's a bit of a pain to renew it (e.g., you have to call them after 11 months, and there's a $15 fee, which they reserve the right to raise as much as they like.)

You need to return both keys, and although there is no duty to show them a cut cable or to give proof that you really locked your machine, the police report probably has to check out (i.e., you are only covered if your computer was locked up securely per direction.)

Anyway, yes, it's peace of mind, with a bunch of qualifications.

If you need instructions, you can use the following: Insert one end of the cables into Device A. Insert the other end of the cables in Device B. Congratulations, you are done.

If you buy a cable with an S-Video connector and are then suprised to find out that your television does not have S-Video, why do you blame the cable? Shouldn't you just be embarrassed for yourself? Read the product description, people!

The cable delivers fine audio and video quality, which is, OF COURSE, dependent on the source material and the television or monitor you are using, not the cable. "Broadcast" an NTSC signal to your television across this cable and it will look as good as the picture you usually enjoy. It's well constructed and is more attractive than most cables to boot.

If you're smart enough to know what you are buying, this will meet your needs.

Look, this needs some sort of instructions.My TV doesn't have a super-v socket.Which many people's won't.So I went to Tandy (Radio Shack) and got a scart adaptor just to use it.When I finally get resolution settings right, it'll still only output to black and white.It's going back I'm afraid.Oh, and to the user who says anyone who can't set this up, we shouldn't be using computers in the first place?Well, whatever... Let's not play flame-wars.But I've been using macs and PC's for 18 years - but when you do something new you need a hand.At this price there's no excuses for a missing out a proper setup brochure with troubleshooting sections.

People rating it low don't understand how it works...
Those of you complaining of poor image quality obviously have never hooked your laptop up to a TV. The limitation in the image quality lies with the television, which is relatively (very) low resoltuion and not designed for the precise demands of computer use. Whether you use a Monster cable or a $2 Radio Shack cable, the outcome will almost be the same because the TV is the limitation, not the cable!!

As far as how it works... your PowerBook's manual explains how to hook it up to a TV. And if you don't know where to plug it in (um, if you put it into Video 1, set the TV to video 1, etc...) then you probably shouldn't be using a computer in the first place.

Seriously, people. This cable, like most Monster produts, is overpriced, but it's engineered well, the all-in-one convenience rocks, and it has a great warranty.

Poor image quality
I agree with the person who says there are no instructions and poor image quality. I wonder if they gave us a mini jack like games systems use if it would work better on TVs that have the 3 jacks on the front. Games systems get good image quality so why is this so bad... No info on this from Monster. Looks like a very good product but I will return it unfortunately. I did discover though that I can use a stereo jack with R-L on one end and a mini jack on the ibook end to give me audio speakers on any TV or Stereo for my iTunes, and audio for a DVD that I am playing but I don't need to spend this much money to get that. If the image were good I would keep it. I would rather show my slide shows from the computer. The image was very bad...

Simply doesnt work
I was anxious to buy this product so I could finally connect my PowerBook to a TV. The cable is well constructed, of obvious high quality, and came nicely packaged. The advertising for the product makes it seem simple: Just hook up the cables and you instantly get a high quality image from your PowerBook on your television. Unfortunately, it just doesnt work as promised. After multiple attempts I have never been able to get the product to work properly.

The package contains no documentation or information on connecting the cables or troubleshooting. Connection seems easy enough but the RCA jacks that go to the TV are poorly labeled and with more than a dozen possible places for them to connect on the back of the TV it isnt clear where they go. I was eventually able to make the right connections butthe quality of the final image was poor and didnt fit on the screen properly. I was able to manipulate some settings on the computer to improve the image but the final image was never acceptable.

I wish Monster would provide better documentation with this product or on their website (I have searched the website several times). I would suggest against purchasing this product. I think Monster charges much too high a price for a product that produces such a poor final result. ... Read more

Worked for me!
I needed this for the great printer I bought from AMAZON.com also.Easy to use cable - no problems!

Never had a problem....
I have lots of Belkin cables, and they have never failed me. The screw down mechanism is well designed, and does not allow the screw to back out (and thus become MIA). Also, because the screw downs are rubberized, they are easier to grip and tighten. I have bought one set of the expensive gold-plated contact cables, but the added cost added nothing to performance.

It's OK
Price is what attracts me the most. However, I wished it could be little bit longer so it will be able to connect the printer to the CPU. But finally, I got that problem fixed. Overall, it's a good buy!
