Adrian quickly proved himself to be a very solid and creative musician. His infectious rock/ska-flavored rhythms helped No Doubt achieve multiplatinum status with their 1995 major-label release, "Tragic Kingdom." Adrian has been able to masterfully blend his various rock, ska, and punk influences to develop a playing style which compliments his band and serves each song very well. After playing with the Vandals on a 2-week European tour, Adrian spent the better part of 2000 on the road with No Doubt in support of their release "Return of Saturn." ... Read more

Product Description

Joe Calato developed the original nylon tip drum stick over 40 years ago. These sticks are made from only the finest American Hickory. They were the first company to install their own dry kiln so that they could control the manufacturing process from the kiln drying of the wood, to the matching and pairing of sticks. Joe Calato was also the first to upgrade the quality of the sticks on the market by grading them for straightness of grain, weight, color, and warp, and then match each pair. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for practice & adds range to playing
I purchased these as an alternative to Promark Cool Rods (ASIN B0002CZWWW).I love the Cool Rods, but wanted something a bit more 'swishy' for some acoustic pieces. This stick gave me the sound I was looking for.I also find myself using these for late night practice because they have a fairly flat sound that does not project.

The feel is natural, and although these sticks are around 5A size in diameter (I use 7A for playing), they are lightweight and fast. You can get a little rebound off your drums (not enough to do double stroke rolls), but practically zero rebound off cymbals. For playing this is a slight annoyance, but it greatly aids your practice sessions because it makes you work.

My pair has developed a slight warp on the stick I normally use for my left hand. I play traditional grip and do a lot of left hand practice exercises. This does not detract from the quality of this stick since I have used it for hundreds of hours. Indeed, considering the amount of use this pair has and the way I put it through its paces during practice, this stick will last years of normal, light playing.

The real reason to get this stick is the subtle shade of sound it can produce. It fits nicely between traditional brushes and rods, such as the Promark Cool Rods I also use. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking for something thinner than a 7a?
Before discovering this gem I was stuck with 7a sticks, which ran between .5 and .515 inches in diameter depending on which company made them.I have small hands and play lite, so was never quite satisfied with 7a sticks. This stick is 16 inches long with a .475 inch diameter, and is a perfect fit for me.

I realize that many drummers use 5a sticks for rock and either 7a or 11a for jazz, but if you are in the small minority like myself, this stick will noticably improve your speed.

A few other points in this stick's favor include a great nylon tip that gives superior cymbal definition, especially on hi-hats.It also is sturdy and can withstand heavier playing.

Other sticks you may want to explore if you primarily use 7a are the Joe Porcaro signature stick by DRUMS IN THE WIND (lite maple with a diamond-shaped nylon tip for intricate cymbal work). This stick measures 15.75 inches long by .525 inch diameter. While thicker than most 7a sticks, this one is feather lite and will let you blaze.I also use the PROMARK 7a (15 3/8 inches long with a .5 inch diameter), and their Jazz model, which has the same diameter, but is 16 inches long - both in hickory with nylon tips. If you do consider the PROMARK sticks, avoid their LA line of sticks. These are factory seconds and are of inconsistent quality. ... Read more

Product Description

Promark uses only premium, hand-selected wood. Each stick is hand-finished and hand-inspected for that classic Pro-Mark look, feel, and sound. A consistent supply of premium quality wood means consistent production of the highest quality drumsticks. Promark's 40 years of unequaled success in drumstick production is recognized by the top wood mills in the United States and Japan. This assures Pro-Mark of priority delivery, and guarantees an uninterrupted year-round supply of wood. Promark's Millenium II? process is a proprietary system which is unique to the drumstick industry. This treatment actually strengthens the wood and improves its resonance. It reduces the chance of warping during production, shipment and storage at retail stores or distribution warehouses. Promark is now using an environmentally friendly finish as opposed to the ordinary lacquer used by most other manufacturers. This finish is completely non-toxic, with no waste or residue, which is hazardous and difficult to dispose of. It makes Pro-Mark sticks less sensitive to moisture changes than standard drumsticks. The result is significantly improved quality and consistency as well as a finish that is more comfortable to the touch. ... Read more
