Average headphones.
I purchased this pair of headphones back in August 2003 for $3 at a now defunct store.The audio quality is slightly improved, but after months of heavy and repeated use, the noise cancellation became just annoying.The audio seems to shift more or less to the right earpiece when the processing is turned on.What I did like the headphones is the increased bass response, but in turn the circuitry is not sophisticated enough save battery energy.
The big problem is the wearability of the headphones, the design compresses the top of the ears - which can be painful after minutes of usage.Also, the paint isn't exactly durable, but the interesting part is the cream/beige underlying plastic color shows.A good use for the headphones is running lawn equipment, to reduce some engine noise (which is relegated to this task now [snickering]).

This model is replaced by HP-CN6, a slight update to the HP-CN5 but at today's prices ($30+/-).This revision drops the translucent coloring that lasted for a couple of years in the market and replaces it with a spray of matching silver coloring and updated badging.After company acquisition, Aiwa is now Sony's "value brand". One of Sony's noise canceller headsets are based on this model, and also other brands.

Don't buy it
1. Ready to pop off your head if you moves. 2.Very uncomfortable. After 5 mins you want to take it off. 3. Noice reduction does not work. When turns on, the white noise if louder then the noise you want to cancel.

Bad out of box
This set of headphones were bad right out of the box..I have co-worker/friends that have purchased the same product ( refurbished by the same company ) and most have failed to work properly within 2 to 5 days..problems like ( canceling feature doesn't work at all..Humming noise..or bad sound quality ) I wouldn't waste my time or money sending product back to this company..as they can't fix them right the first time..(...)..

What a joke
I rarely am so displeased with a product that I'll go out of my way to write a negative review of it.In this case I'm that displeased.The noise canceling technology of these headphones consist of "white noise" generated in the headphone speakers, intended to drown out other sounds.Great idea, but if I want to listed to the hiss of white noise I'll hold a seashell up to my ear and tell myself I can hear the ocean.Replacing one type of noise with another is not helpful.

Refurbished -- but still defective
I bought a refurbished pair for $ from an Amazon partner, "...". They came in some generic packaging with photocopied instructions and a 30 day non-manufacturer warrantee. Evidently there's now a mini-industry of businesses that handle returns and refurbishes them.

At home they seemed to work. With noise reduction on they had a soft background hiss, and if I moved around in some noise settings they produced an annoying buzz. On an airplane, however, the right earphone produced an earsplitting whine. The headphones are defective, the noise canceling mechanism is malfunctioning.

I have a nasty suspicion that the headphones were rather minimally "refurbished", and that this defect was the reason they were returned in the first place. It wouldn't show up in simple testing without an airplane volume noise source nearby.

Don't buy these refurbished headphones unless you have money to waste.

Nice cheap headphones.
I bought these very cheaply at a discount store, for use with my laptop, because earbuds hurt my ears after a while.These headphones are collapsible, which is a plus, but the plastic seems flimsy, which is a minus.I don't think they'd survive being sat on by accident.

The sound is surprisingly good, even on bass!I've only had these for 2 weeks, so I can't attest to longevity.I was going to give 3 stars, but added one more because of the price.For < $10, I can'task for more.

Excellent portable speakers
Great value. Six-foot cord was what I was looking for, so it connects to the computer sound card at the rear, but I can still dance. Folding frame makes for excellent portability. Sound: great!Excellent clarity, bass isn't disappointing. You don't lose anything with this headphone set.
