Good practice amp, but not quite enough for a band setting.
I bought one to leave in the band's practice room (why not? the price is right!), so I could keep my Crate MX50B at home, hoping this generic 60-watter would hold it's own against a guitar amp & drums.Nope.Not quite.This is a fine practice amp, but side-by-side against my main amp, I'd subjectively rate the power around half the Crate's 50 watts.

So the Crate will go on the road, and this unit will be my practice unit for home.Which is fine, since the low end rolls off early (even with the Bass setting at 10, the lows just aren't there), it won't shake the walls (or bother the neighbors so much).

On the other hand, though the manual and face of the amp (which arrived with the "AXL" brandname/logo on it) call it a Bass Amp, Musician's Friend is right to market it for keyboards too - the highs and mids are sharp (a tweeter in a bass amp?Heh.) and there's lots of EQ-ing options.

All-in-all, if you're not expecting what the competition calls 60 watts, and don't need a lot of low-end rumble, this is a steal of a practice or keyboard amp for the (sale) price. ... Read more

Keyboardists Dream amp
I own two. By far the best amps I've ever owned for keyboards. Mine are used for my two Nord Electros. They are the perfect match. Then why only 4 stars? One reason. The sound is very good.But a speaker with wider range, top and bottom, would make it 100% perfect. Fortunately, this can be addressed if you're gonna be THAT fussy. So don't base a negative decision on a minor shortcoming. It's sound is certainly more than adequate While a more efficiant speaker would make it perfect, it would also add weight, and cost. As it is, the trade-off is totally fair. You have to let G/B make some money somewhere. They're a rare breed of manufacturer who will stand behind the product. Firmly. Now a div. of Kaman (Ovation) G/B seems to have retained relative independence. Still managed by the founder, Jeff Genzler, and still accessible. When a problem arose with a nearly 3 yr. old unit, I called and Jeff answered the phone!!! Not that surprising when you consider at last count they had just 12 employees. This is a hands-on, quality oriented company, anxious to please. They fixed my amp, free and fast. I paid only shipping. UC4's are well made, reliable, and considering what you get, priced right. Read the specs. Look at the features. Nobody comes close in providing a great amp for keys, acoustic guitar, and with two, and a mixer, a superb PA! I can find no real down-side to this amp. After nearly 50 years in the music business, I've probably owned an amp made by every major manufacturer. Tube & solid state. Fender, pre-fender Sunn, Crate, Marshall, Ampeg, Laney, Beringer, Gibson, you name it. All made good amps. Some were louder, maybe even cleaner. Maybe.
