Good good
Well I just go this bass guitar after wanting one for a long time now and it is very nice. Looks very good, it had fast shipping, I think I received it in about 4 days. The amp sounds very good and it is highly controllable. I only found one problem with it, maybe it is just how I play, but when moving up and down the guitar the string will sometime barely touch the metal parts and it will make a loud metal vibrating noise, so you have to be accurate and use morepressure so it doesn't do that. Andthe shoulder strap is a bit of not good. But other than those few I found it very nice and hopefully I shall become better at this. ... Read more

Not for babies!
I bought this for my 1 year old son who has loved the other xylaphones he's tried. This is a very nice one with a nice sound but it may be dangerous to little ones? It doesn't come with any information or instructions, [...] The first thing my son did after banging on it a few times was to start to suck on the wooden ball head of the sticks. Then my wife noticed the ball comes off. He could've easily been choked. The head on the other stick seems secure so I epoxy glued the other one and it seems secure now. But we watch him carefully whenever he's playing with it and keep the sticks out of reach unless we can watch him. ... Read more

Pros and Cons
For $39.99 you might as well get one.Here's some things to evaluate.
- The sunburst finish on the one I bought was awesome.It was better than some really high dollar mandolins.
- The action was higher than I like and there isn't much room to adjust.It's OK right now, but in months or years to come, this will probably get worse.
- There is NO adjustable truss rod.Once this baby goes out of whack, you're gonnas have to toss it or turn it into a project to try to retrofit an adjustable truss rod and get some more life out of it.
- As with any new mandolin, it takes a few iterations to tune it since once you get through the one pair of strings, then the previous ones need adjusting again until there is the right tension on the top via the bridge.But once it's in tune, it holds pretty well.
- The tuning keys are actually much better than I expected.Comparing to other beginning mandos, this is easier to turn the tuning hardware compared my more expensive beginner with theadjustable truss rod.
- the all important sound.It sounds good.it's about the same as the other more expensive beginner brand.

Comparing to the price of other beginner models, you can buy 4 of these for the price of the other popular beginner model.So, buy a few, use one and put the other in the closet.When one goes bad, ditch it an break out another one.

Stay away
I went to Musician's Friend distribution warehouse showroom since they are in KC.I thought how could you go wrong with 39.95?I looked at 5 of these and they all had necks that dropped down away from the strings where it joins the body.That made the action way too high.Volume sounded low and tone was not full.On a positive note, the finsh was nice.It was a nice looking "toy", but it was not worth playing.I left and found a Kentucky A type mandolin for $150.It had awesome tone and volume.Just goes to show you, you get what you pay for.Unfortunately, this Rogue isn't worth the $40 they want.I would pay $20 and give it to my kid, but it's not even good enough for a beginner.

All of the Rogue instruments I have looked at are very bad quality.The necks on all their acoustic guitars I have seen need resetting out of the box, unless you like playing with the strings an inch above the fretboard.

Spend the extra money and buy a real instrument.Stay away from these mandolins and buy a Kentucky if you are a beginner.

My Son Loved It!
My son Andrew, who formerly took drum lessons and still loves to tap on any and everything, was so overjoyed with this digital drum set!The many sounds that can be assigned to a pad kept him interested and motivated!I am so glad that I made this purchase, as a few people had said it's not the same as drums.While that may be true, it still provides anyone interested in drumming the opportunity to be creative and enhance their drumming skills!

Fun to Play
I can play a number of tunes on the harmonica and that is the extent of my musical ability.That skill was learned on numerous backpacking trips over the years.I ordered up the D40 Concertina and Mel Bay's book.I received the concertina a couple weeks before the book.I managed to work out the details of Red River Valley in the first couple hours I had it.Couldn't play well at that time (still can't) but had the notes figured out.Once I got the book, it was a little easier to learn a new song.

This thing is just fun to sit down with for an hour or so in the evening and play the few songs I know and maybe work on a new one.

I highly reccommend this instrument for anybody that has an interest in this type of thing.

I am 52 years old.

OK for a two-year-old
My wife got this for our two-year-old son at the same time as she got me a beautiful Takamine acoustic, also from Amazon - she wisely and correctly thought that it would stave off "MY guitar" rages from him if I was playing and he didn't have one to use. The guitar is just the right size for him and he totally loves to strum it and sing. If, however, you're looking for something you can actually play, look elsewhere - it fails to stay in tune even for a few seconds (even though I tightened the heads) and the tuning of the frets is waaaay off. So you can't or don't care to play chords, but if your kid's looking for a nice looking guitar which is fun to strum and which will also hopefully give them a chance to learn to respect and look after an instrument, this is perfect. ... GREAT STARTER PACKAGE FOR THE MONEY
Just received my Yamaha bass pack in good order. I really knew nothing about this particular package - all I knew is that all of the other packages out in the market (except for the pricier Ibanez unit)were junk. This package offered alot of value for the money. I was counting on Yamaha's reputation for quality ,and - for the most part, it doesn't disappoint. The guitar looks & feels good, lightweight but not junky. It plays super easily (although I had to adjust the action a bit), and it sounds nice - a very decent rock bass that has an edgy sound.
The little practice amp is even better than I imagined - solid, quality feel. Of course, you'll never be able to play a gig with the amp (unless it's with acoustic guitars) but what do you expect? The little electronic tuner works great, the cable is junky , and the strap is OK. This package even includes an extra set of strings,a string winder and a Hal Leonard instructional booklet. These are extras the other packages don't inlcude.
