5-0 out of 5 stars Nice beginner guitar
This guitar is suited for people with little hands.I have a hard time with my fingers because they are small, and this guitar works great. The sound isn't bad, but I would get new strings, and the guitar is sturdy and will work well for the new player. The color is nice too, it adds a little something to just a basic guitar. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME LITTLE SET
OK, We dont know much about drums in our house so I can only really speak of the quality here...I originally bought one of those cheapo sets (American Idol) for my son from Toys-R-Us. It was complete junk that broke the very first day. We returned that and then found this on sale.We paid very close to the same amount for the toy one as this set. This is amazingly sturdy and well built, There is absolutely no comparison. PLease, dont waste your time on the cheapo sets, even if its just for a beginner like my son. It is so nice to have something of quality finally. Toys are made so cheaply these days, but this will not disappoint you because it is definitely NOT a toy, it is just great! ... Read more

Product Description

Also known as the Jews' Harp, the Jaws Harp is a hand-sized instrument placed in front of the mouth. Its name is misleading, as the Jews' Harp is neither a harp nor associated with Jewish tradition. It has a long history, and has remained popular because it is portable and relatively easy to play.

The Jaws Harp is usually made of forged metal (usually iron, sometimes silver), with a metal reed within a thin metal frame. The closed end of the frame is a single key or tongue which you pluck with your finger to create various buzzing tones by holding the closed end in your mouth and changing the size and shape of your mouth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jewstastic!
Ever since I was a child I have always dreamed of owning one of the fantastic musical instruments, imagine my surprice and delight when I stumbled upon this instument of the angels here on Amazon, as soon as I set eyes on it I knew that I had to have it.
I'm not Jewish and I think that harps are okay but not brilliant but this little beauty is bazoo and beezer.
During the weekends I like to get out my shiny Jews Harp and play it for family, friends and other visitors, they love it, they can't get enough of its heavenly sound and jaunty twangs. My favourite song to play on it is "The Camp Town Races" my second favourite is "The Skye Boat Song" and my third favourite which I like to play is Elvis 'The King' Presley's "In the Ghetto".
This Christmas I'm going to buy one for each family member and we can have a jam session.
At the price of $6 you can't go wrong with this little number! it's the business. With it's shiny gleam and cheerful pings and twangs the Jews Harp will keep you and your family entertained for hours!
I award the Jews Harp five stars and a WG Sinclair BIG double thumbs up! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Keyboard's Great, Would Like Better AC Converter
I love this digital piano. Unlike my electronic keyboard, when I play the Privia it feels and sounds just like a real piano. It has other tones, of course, including a beautiful strings section sound. But if you want to play a piano, expressing yourself in each note, then this is an excellent way to go.

My only complaint is the power converter. You're supposed to unplug it when the piano is off. It apparently draws power from your AC even when the piano itself is turned off. And that's a nuisance. So I've got the converter plugged into a power panel that has an on-off switch. That seems to do the trick.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best value available.
I'm not raving about this instrument--there are a lot of others I'd rather own.

But you can't get those, complete with furniture-grade stand, for $500 like you can this one--if your a member of everyone's favorite warehouse club based in Kirkland, WA.

Key action is decent, if a little light. Doesn't take long to accustom yourself to it. Samples are quite good, for such a cheap piece. Not long ago, you couldn't get piano sound this good from the $6000 Kurzweils, Rolands and Yamahas. Now everybody's got a new, improved piano sample, and they just keep getting bigger and better.

If you've been waiting for quality and price to converge at a point where it just makes sense to not go without a piano anymore, this might be your ticket. Any player will tell you you really need a real piano if you're really going to play. But as a low-budget piano alternative that doubles as a really fancy MIDI controller for your computerized composition needs, this thing is state of the art.

Of course, with something this small, if you really want the full range of the excellent piano sounds in its chip, you'll have to plug it into something a bit more substantial than its little bitty speakers. But for their size, these speakers don't do too bad. The sounds are stereo, giving a nice depth of field and providing a really good background with decent PA equipment. Much better than any of us had a right to expect from a $500 piece of gear in years gone by.

Mine is quite new, so I can't make any pronouncements as to longevity yet. But since it's sitting where it's likely to stay, this piano is likely to outlast those that get used for gigs.

Before this Privia line came out, I couldn't imagine using anything that said 'Casio' for performance. But if I were still gigging, I'd consider getting a road case for the PX-100 and putting it on my rack as one of the primary controllers--and I might even use its piano sample.

I'll say it once more: for $500 including a very nice stand, you can't go wrong. Use your favorite aftermarket pedal, though. The mouse that comes with this thing is a bit difficult.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
Just bought myself a Christmas present and this is it. I've played the piano since I was seven. A "real" piano is space- and cost-prohibitive for me right now but this is as close as you can get to the real thing and it's great! Since I'm a piano-playing purist, all the bells and whistles on this baby are new to me so I'm having fun discovering all the extra features. But the feel and sound are fantastic. I also bought the wooden stand for it, and it looks like a nice piece of furniture. Putting it together was easy (I did it by myself despite the directions to have two people put it together). Now if they could package this with a piano bench I would be really, really happy. And here's a hint...you can save some $ by buying this on the online store of a well-known warehouse store (yes, that one). You'll have to pay shipping but you'll still come out ahead.

1-0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE
I bought this item & the transpose function didn't work - might be a problem w/ the product - I know someone else who has the same problem. So, I sent it in for repair per their instructions. But, Casio repair service is the worst I've ever seen. They're even worse than Best Buy & that's pretty bad. They rec'd my item for warranty work on 11/23/04. At first I was told the turnaround for the repair was 5-10 business days. Then I was told that starts from the log date. THEN, I was told that it's 10-15 business days from the log date!!! They didn't even get around to logging it in until 12/7/04!!! They had the product 9 business days prior to even logging it in!!! I may never see my product again. So beware, if you purchase something from them, I hope you never have to have it repaired!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
I am obsessed with this keyboard. Why? Because it's the first one that I've seen and played so far that has PERFECT weighting on the keys, beautiful sound, and a GREAT price. This keyboard has been on my wishlist for a while now, ever since I first saw it at Sam's. I just want to reiterate how well Casio has done with this keyboard - While there are a limited range of tones available on the PX-100, there are plenty of features for someone who is like me - If you want the feel of a real piano with the weight of an electronic keyboard, this is the keyboard you want to look at. I just couldn't help but fall in love with the keys on this baby, I've played on keyboards with weighted keys before, but this one just takes the cake - The keys are weighted propertly, they spring back like they should, and the weight is ranged just right - the lower keys are just the slightest bit heavier than the higher end. This thing is a DREAM to play! Featuring midi input/output ports, two headphone jacks, pedal port and everything I've talked about so far, this keyboard is definitely something to look at if you want the warmth and feel of a real piano at the price and portability of an electronic keyboard. I highly reccomend this keyboard! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars: Bang for the Buck
I gave this guitar 5 stars not because it's the best guitar out there, but the best guitar for the money. I tried out a lot of guitars before settling on this. I can tell you you will not be disappointed with the sound, especially if you're just starting out, like I am. I spent $100 on this guitar and just love the sound, feel & look of it. Very good construction. The only thing it needs is a set of new strings. NEW STRINGS MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. I bought the EXP strings (custom light) and not only did the action improve but the sound as well. The guitar now stays in tune for MUCH longer. Overall, great investment.

5-0 out of 5 stars good stuff my freinds
Look i bought this guitar thinking i was just going to get a cheap $99 guitar, the thing sounds awesome, and it plays like a champ. Good action, nice tone, all of the frets are clean there isn't any ring of the strings or anything. I'm telling you for 99 bucks your getting a really good deal. 5-0 out of 5 stars This is not a toy.
I have an Almansa 435 Seniorita, which is a very lovely little classical guitar, so I have some idea what a decent classical guitar should sound like. I got this little one for my son, who is 5, and didnt want to spend much because you know how children can be when it comes to lessons and instruments. I was very surprised at the quality of the sound. It is still in it's breaking in period, so the strings are still stretching, but it sounds really, really, nice. I even played on it myself (you know, just to get it warmed up for my son!) and it truly is not bad. Doesnt sound "tinny" or "toyish". Sounds like a classical guitar. Now I bought a much more expensive one a few years ago for my daughter, who has since given up the guitar, and that was handmade in mexico, solid wood, 3/4 size, and didn't sound nearly as good as this little thing. For this price, you get a solid spruce top, the finish is nice, kind of matted, the tuners are pretty good, and so far the strings aren't too bad. The base strings look like they could be silver-plated. Unfortunately you dont get any product information in the box so who knows where the strings came from and what kind they are (the guitar is romanian), but the main thing is that the guitar sounds so nice that a child will be encouraged to continue, the teacher will be pleased, and the parents will not have to suffer from more than the usual beginning-any-instrument "noises", and perhaps a lot less because it has such a pleasant sound. Now of course it isnt comparable to the almansa or to finer guitars, but for a young child who is serious about wanting to study classical guitar, this is a very fine instrument at an EXCELLENT price. This model is sold on other sites for about 20 dollars more, but why pay that?! If you are looking for a small guitar for your young child, this one is a very good bet. A real, very decent sounding, classical guitar for the price of a toy one! ... Read more

The bright, attractive, and durable drumhead design captures everyones interest and delivers loads of fun. One of the most fun things about playing these drums is there really aren't any rules about what can and can't be played on them.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST DRUM EVER!
Lollipop drums are the coolest things EVER and deserve at least a 25/5 rating. They are colorful and attractive, and are great for those boring rainey days when you want to drive your parents nuts.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Daughter Loves this Drum
What could be better for a thirteen-month old than a brightly-colored drum you hit with a brightly-colored mallet? From my daughter's point of view, just about nothing.

She really loves everything about this drum. The handles of both the drum itself and the mallet have a soft rubber tip on them, making this toy safer and fun to chew on while recuperating from heavy-duty jam sessions.

The mallet head resembles a cat toy, which is to say it's very light, so any particularly exuberant swings that stray off course won't hurt a hand or head.

Really, this drum is two toys in one: my daughter uses the mallet sans drum to create rhythms on everything from the dishwasher to the (poor, beleaguered) cat. To see her running wildly with the mallet toward a mundane object (a wall, for example) to see what kind of noise she can get out of it is to know that this drum represents money well spent.

And the babysitter has fun with it as well.

The drum is recommended for ages 3 and up but that seems conservative to me. Depending on the strength of your child, you might opt for one of the smaller models. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good snare - but not a "piccolo" sound
In all fairness - I ordered this drum with the understanding that you get what you pay for (after all, $30.00 is a ridiculously low price for any instrument). The Pulse Steel Piccolo Snare arrived in a timely manner and in good condition.

I tightening up the heads, adjusted the metal snare wire, and hit the drum with the expectation of a nice, crisp, snappy quality - synonymous with a "piccolo" snare. However, no matter how much I adjusted the heads and snares - the Pulse Steel "Piccolo" Snare had as much "piccolo" tone as my Tama 14" standard snare (which weighs about 15lbs.)

That said, the drum itself is a bargan if your looking for a great starter or back-up snare, just don't expect a great "piccolo" tone.It has a solid steel shell, and could produce good sound with a quality head.

Since returning the unit would be more hassle and cost than it's worth, I'll hold on to it as a back-up or sell it myself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Super value
I bought my Pulse Piccolo snare on a whim, aftyer seieng the same price, and reading reviews here and elsewhere. I've always wanted a piccolo for that dry "snap" you can't get with a standard snare, and I have to say I'm more than pleased with this little puppy.

Sure, it's a little crude; the vent doesn't have a nice eyelet or badge around it. The snare mechanism is simple, and there are a few rattles. But for what it cost me, it's a bargain. Grab one before they disappear or the price goes up again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great deal on a well made piccolo snare
I purchased this to replace the stock snare that came with my Pearl Rhythm Traveler kit (ASIN B0002FO4R8).There was nothing wrong with the Pearl snare, but it was a little too "warm" for jazz. The Pulse piccolo rectified that and has since become the snare I use with the Pearl kit.

SOUND: crisp and snappy with the "pop" one wants when playing jazz. There is the expected ring from the steel shell and associated hardware.

CONSTRUCTION: solid!Lugs are precision-spaced, and the throw operates smoothly. The heads are a bit thin, but I am satisified with them and have not replaced them. Stick response on the stock head is, in my opinion, superb.

Overall, the value is incredible. If you have been planning to add a piccolo snare to your kit this one is a deal.I use mine as my primary snare, but on a larger kit this would be a welcome addition that would expand your range. I subtracted a star because of a flaw in the batter counterhoop. It does not affect the sound or sturdiness, but irritates me.Still, at the price this is a minor flaw that can be overlooked. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good toy for drum enthusiasts who want to learn
I love drums and rythim so I decided to learn how to play drums. I decided to buy something not to expensive nor too big so that it would not became a problem if I got disappointed during the learning process. Well, I have this set for one month now and I'm satisfied with it and it had served it purpose which is to initiate myself in the art of drumming. However, I must warn you, it's a toy, do not be fool by it having pedals and all, the product will not give you the real feeling that more professional drum sets can give. I'm already thinking about buying a serious equipment, but it won't be until Ifinished my basic learning phase ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Let there be Light
We got this keyboard just before Christmas 2003.Due to the pace of daily life, I haven't gotten too deeply into it.But since it has been several months and no one else has reviewed it, I'll start the ball rolling. The reason why I purchased THIS keyboard because it has a touch sensitive (velocity) and lighted keyboard. The only other model that fit this description was the Casio LK-55.I just thought the Yamaha sounded a bit better and was made a bit better. It is also more expensive. The sounds are quite good. There is an XG lite implementation as well as the standard General Midi soundset. The lighted keys make it easy to learn.

I have been too busy to hook it up to my computer yet to try out the downloading of General Midi sequences, but I am looking forward to it.The supplied USB cable is too short unless your keyboard is right up against your computer.

I was disappointed to find out that the only MIDI implementation is through a USB interface. There are no midi in and out jacks, so I couldn't hook this up directly to my other MIDI keyboard.

I'd love for Yamaha to come out with a version that had regular Midi jacks, pitch and mod wheels and an audio input (with reverb) for sing alongs.I'd pay double the price for those additions. For what you pay, I'd say you get your money's worth and then some.

UPDATE DECEMBER 2004

We've now had this keyboard about a year.Since my initial review, I've solved the computer problems that kept me from loading the software that came with the computer.(The problem was in my computer, and not in the Yamaha keyboard.)

I love the sound-filer software. This software allows you to load general midi files from the computer to the keyboard. The built-in flash memory on the keyboard will hold about 10 new songs, give or take. You can remove them and replace them at will with the songfiler software.Once loaded into the Ez-250i, the sequences play back just as the built-in songs do, lights and all, but with one exception, you can choose which instrument sounds are assigned to the left and right hand regions of the keyboard. This allows you to learn any of the orchestral parts of the song, and to see any of the parts assigned to the lighted area of the keyboard.

The software also allows you to use the EZ-250i as a midi slave instrument to play back sequences played by your computer's midi player or sequencer. This means the EZ-250i will play back any of the midi files you have stored on the computer without having those files actually loaded into the flash memory of the EZ-250i.In my experience, most songs sound better played by the Yamaha keyboard than the computer's Microsoft general midi instruments.

I'm not that thrilled with the Konami game that came with the computer. It seems like a Japanese home market game that doesn't translate well to American audiences. My kids aren't even that interested in it.I had no problems getting it going though.

Since my earlier review, I've explored the depths of the sound engine. There is a lot of synthesis horsepower under the surface. There is dynamic digital filtering on the voices, something you don't see on el-cheapo keyboards. In addition, the keyboard can split and layer voices, giving you up to four distinct sounds playable from the keyboard at any given time. The sound engine responds well over midi to pitch-bend and even portamento (gliding from note to note). It's a shame there's no pitch-bend wheel or portamento switch for live playing.

Since my earlier review, Casio has come out with a new lighted keyboard, the LK-90TV, that competes directly with the Yamaha EZ-250i.I haven't seen this personally, but it has some interesting features. It has a TV output to display Karaoke lyrics from sounds loaded by the user.It also accepts smartmedia cards foruser-loaded sounds, though, as I understand it, this is a read-only slot.In other words, you can't load the card with sounds while hooked up to your keyboard. The card must be loaded from a reader attached to the computer.Though I haven't heard it live, it appears the sound-engine is the same as the LK-55, which, to my ears, sounded distinctly inferior to the Yamaha's.

In summary, a year after my purchase, I'm happy with my purchase, and I'd make the same choice today.I think Yamaha should add the lighted keyboard feature to its upmarket products, including keyboards with microphone inputs, pitch & mod wheels and sound editing features. ... Read more
