Great instrument for the price
For the price, this recorder is one of the best plastic ones out there. If you are thinking about trying the recorder, I would highly recommend this one over the cheaper ones. The cheaper ones tend to sound shrill when you start playing the higher notes. I think that's part of the reason why recorders have such a bad reputation; kids shrieking on their school issued recorders can send any adult running. In contrast, the Yamaha 302 has a warmer tone and the higher register is not grating on the ears. It comes with a cleaning rod, cream for the joints, a fairly nice carrying case that zips, and a small insert with a fingering chart.

The only drawback to this recorder is that it tends to clog easily. The mouthpeice is thinner, which makes it more comfortable to play, but I think it contributes to the clogging. Of course, clogging in unavoidable in all plastic recorders - all my other recorders clog too so I don't think this detracts from the benefits of this model.

All in all, I have been very happy with mine and I think I could only do better by buying one of the handcarfted wood recorders that run upwards of two hundred.

Predictable, All-Around, Neutral Strings
The Dominant strings sets the standard for synthetic violin strings, and is usually the default string to put on an instrument.It is middle of the road, and gives a pretty decent, although somewhat sterile, tone.When it is new, there is a slight metallic feel, but that goes away after it is stretched out.They last about 2-3 months, fairly bright, but with good overtones, and then gradually get duller.The E string is just ordinary, and many people substitute a different E string (such as Pirastro Gold).I like the Kaplan Solo E string with the Dominant G, D, A. ... wE ALL LOVE IT IN OUR CHOIR
I`ve never been very good to put in tone my guitar. I had an electronic tuner but the problem was that everything had to be in silence so I could tune it. With the inteltouch we have no more problems, because in the midle of the presentation one can tune the guitarr because it is with vibration. We just love it. Yes, it is expensive, but for people like me it`s just the perfect buy.

Tuning For Dummies


I bought this as a beginning violin student a few years ago. I got tired of waiting until my lessons for my instructor to tune my violin. You simply attach it anywhere on the instrument and pluck the strings. The number of arrows on the left and right of the display tell you if the string is flat or sharp. Your goal is to get a readout of 3 arrows on each side. Too few on the left? It's sharp. Loosen peg. Too few on the right? It's flat. Tighten peg. Tune and pluck, tune and pluck...bingo! Everyone I've shown it to wants one. It's a little expensive, but if you want a fast and easy way to tune, this is for you.
