Absolutely stunning sound.
The Beyer DT990 Pro is a 5-Star performer, but I "downrated" it on account of the skimpy headband padding (the only deficiency in this otherwise superb set of "cans").The DT990 is "open air", but isolation from the surrounding environment is greater than with some others (thinking here of the Sennheiser open-backed phones).I found the sonic balance unique at first -- but, the sonic character "improves" with the first, few auditions.Other reviewers have described this phenomenon as "burn-in", but I think it has more to do with the ear-brain reaction to the overall sonic character of the headphones.At any rate, I now depend totally on the DT990.Anyone seeking a top-line headphone will not be disappointed (headband notwithstanding).I titled this review, "absolutely stunning sound".By that, what I mean is clean, responsive, and clear -- everthing an audiophile-class headphone should be.

Cheap - You get what you pay for
I was attracted to these headphones because they looked like a steal. They looked like an extremely great deal for the price that I payed for them (around $25)... but what I got was exactly what I paid for. I got very low quality, cheaply made headphones that barely held up for 2 months. The foam padding started deteriorating about a week after I bought these and they hurt your ears after only about listening for an hour. The sound quality is mediocre, but is better than some at the same price range. My biggest problem with these phones was that they leaked an extremely large amount of sound. You can't be in a room, or even a room over from someone without them knowing what you're listening too. HORRIBLE...
But, they are extremely comfortable if you are only going to wear them for a SHORT period of time. They are VERY cheap, and if you don't mind letting anyone listen with you (sound leakage), then these phones shouldn't be a problem. Okay for the casual listener who doesn't have a whole lot of money to spare. The cord is extremely long, which makes for easy maneuverability but does get in the way sometimes. There is a small amount of isolation, more so than with other headphones at this price, but you still can hear outside noise which kind of defeats the purpose.
I would have gave it a 3... because you really do get what you pay for, but I just can't get over how horrible the sound leakage is with these phones. I've used $.99 cent headphones that didn't have leakage this bad... therefore I gave it a 2.
I'm going to loosen up and spring for a pair of Sennheiser HD-280's... better spending $80 for a supposedly fantastic pair than waste another $25 on cheap junk like this. ... Read more

One of the best headphones ever
I am extremely happy that Amazon.com started stocking Grado products.

To audiophiles, Grado is a very big name. Grado makes some of the world's best consumer turntable catridges, and makes some of the most notoriously fun, musical headphones out there.

The Grado RS-1 headphones are the second-most expensive Grado headphones on the market now. The PS-1 is a limited-edition headphone that is very seldom-made (but it is in production currently) that contains some of the best detail, fluidity, warmth, and excitement than any other headphone. However, the RS-1s are very close to the specifications of this headphone.

The Grado Reference Series 1 is, in my opinion, the true audiophile way to ENJOY your music. Others may say that they do not like the musicality, because it has a very colored sound. Audiophiles normally know that this is not good because it doesn't "faithfully" reproduce the information on your record/CD properly. However, I don't always want to sit there and listen to the minor details of my music. Sometimes I just want to rock out and enjoy myself as much as possible, which is where the Grado RS1 headphones take the responsibility of fulfilling this for me.

The RS1 headphones at first are going to look very cheap to those who are not familiar with them. The headband is leather, but it is thin. The earcups do not surround the ear at all, they just touch them. This is a very open headphone, so outside noise will come in, and your sound will leak.

But these are all very obvious and welcome shortcomings. This leads to a very good performing headphone. While they may not be as comfortable as the Senns, they are definitely faster, more enjoyable, and contain a much more fluid sound than the Sennheiser HD650s. If you want to listen to Rock on these headphones, particularly bands from the seventies and eighties, these are the best option you will have.

Another great thing about the headphones is that they are really easy to drive without the presence of a headphone amplifier. I have experienced, however, that with my Perreaux SXH-1 amp, it really improves the sound quality. Things that the Grado sound lacks are dynamic range and midrange neutrality, but the amp was able to tone down the midrange and bass was much more dynamic than before.

If you wanna have some of the best sound quality on the planet from a name you can trust, then you will want to go with a Grado headphone. Everything from Classical to Metal sounds amazing on these headphones. They are extremely versatile, are durable even though they look like they were from WW2, and, best of all, they are some of the best sounding headophones you can buy. Male vocals, drums, wailing guitars, you name it - Grado will reproduce it faithfully.

i have owned the45s for three years now ,and when hooked up through you VCR you can have separate volume controls .I have found it necessaryto send them in once as the ear piece broke off,the company was great to work with and I had a new pair in 5 days.I have used the same batteries for over two years .The only problem I is I would rather have a button switch for picking up the proper range rather then a small revolving control .This is only a personal opinion however.It is so pleasant to watch the television at whatever volume you desire and the wife can listen at another volume. Dealing with Sennheiser is a pleasure !!

Mixed feelings - Don't buy it in Greece
I was given this headset as a gift and I was really excited. I connected it to my computer immediately, and used it to listen to MP3s while doing other stuff around the house or even washing the car outside (I am only on the 1st floor however). I also used it for listening to TV and watching DVDs without disturbing the rest of the family.

The sound quality was great when the headphone had an unobstracted (direct) line of sight with the transmitter, but I got some static while moving around behind walls etc. Overall, I am very satisfied with both the quality of the sound and the reception distance.

On the other hand, I am not particularly satisfied with the overall manufacturing quality, namely the plastics used and the feel on my ears. I prefer the leather-like headphones because they are easier to clean after use. Wearing the headphones was also a bit ackward at first, as they pressed a little too hard against my head (got used to it in the process however).

One word of caution however. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT IN GREECE. It broke down and then hell broke loose. There is no Sennheiser in this country and the service center of the seller (Nakas) is located hours away from me. Since I am in the capital rather than a rural area, I dread to think what would have happened to a guy from a small town in a similar case. Also, Avitech (another service center I was referred to), received my money beforehand only to inform me the device can't be fixed. I had to through it away and go for a Sony instead.

Reliable Wireless
I have used amazon reviews to determine what type of headphones to buy for the price range I wanted - I considered the mixed reviews and gave Senn RS-45 a chance. I am happy to report I am 100% happy with the quality of the sound, the range, and the ease of set up (even my iPOD works with it!)

Wireless can't be perfect
I bought this product to be able to watch tv without disturbing my wife who doesn't like background noise when she's reading. For that purpose the Sennheiser RS-45 is great. I can sit wherever and move freely without being constrained by a cord.

But don't expect too much. If you move around, there will be few disturbances in reception, just as there would be if you are moving around with a portable radio. Next room the reception is not too great, so you can forget about going to the basement with the headphones if the transmitter is somewhere else.

In short: if you're looking for perfect sound quality, get regular headphones with a cord. If it's more important for you that you can move around a bit, the Sennheiser RS-45 is a good option.

Bad instructions
The instructions show to plug it into the headphone outlet.When I did that, the reception was terrible. Then I tried the audio line-out and it was 100% improved.The manual does not mention that.
