1-0 out of 5 stars This was a major disappointment!!!
Bought these on my way from Australia to Norway. They did not even come close to reducing engine-noise significantly. I suspect that the ear fit is crucial for the function. However there is no way I can position the plugs so that I get good sound quality. The Bass disappears but get better when the plugs are pressed firmly into the ears and held there wit great discomfort. I would choose any cheap set of earphones any day instead of this junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE PRODUCT SONY NC -11
These ear buds have to be the worst in the industry.I have ordered 4 sets of the NC11, hoping that the others were just defective, but oh no, not the case at all. They simply do not do the job of filter out all outside noise. Not even close do they come.It is so disappointing because I have been a loyal Sony fan for many years, more years that I would like to remember. The NC11 is so bad ( how bad is it) :), that if I were Sony I would recall every set made and find another day job.HORRIBLE...HORRIBLE...
Sorry Sony, but that is the absolute truth of your noise canceling headphone.Wished there could have been a 0 star rating. And, it is a shame that there is no one to talk to at Sony that really give a big rats tail. They need to listen to the consumer. And then again, there are those who dont realize how bad this product is, simply because that havent tested other products. 1-0 out of 5 stars Short lived life, but good while it lasted
I got these headphones in January, but they died just over the 90-day warranty. One thing before I get to the details is that Sony customer support is HORRIBLE.It really is like talking to a wall when you use the "live customer support".Don't even bother using the repair/exchange program for something out of warranty, for example, i got these headphines for about $80, and they wanted me to pay $76 plus shipping to give me a refurbished one or to repair it (the replacements have no warranty, so you might as well be asking for a broken one).Anyways, the problem i had with these was not the noise cancelling, which was wonderful, but the fit.I like the length of the right headphone, but the headphones themselves have a problem with tiwsting our of straightness so sometimes the point forward. The broken part of my headphones was the left earbud. It just died one day and would not work. The right headphone worked perfectly, noise cancelling and all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bikin' and Yard Work
I purchased these earphones because I wanted to hear less road and engine noise while riding my motorcycle. My stock MP3 player ear phones hurt my ears and did not stay put inside my full face helmet.I bought 2 different styles of earphones at Target, basing my decision on which earphone looked more comfortable inside my helmet.

After experimenting with the 3 different styles of earphones, I found the biggest problem was I consistently heard too much road, engine or wind noise. To overcome this problem, I decided to buy noise reducing earphones.

The Sony earphones were very, very comfortable, they fit well inside my helmet and would stay in place for hours. The noise cancelling feature was effective (see chart below).

The earphones also worked well when I did yard work (mowing, edging).I think the theory that you "save" your haring when you use them is probably true because you don't have to the volume turned up so loud because you don't have to overcome so much background noise.

The biggest disappointment is the earphone cords, they are way too long and get tangled easily. The other problem is remembering to turn off the sound reducing part of the ear phones. If you turn off the MP3, the earphones are still on.There is a red "idiot light" that glows when it is on, but it is very hard to see in the daylight.Below is a little chart to help you understand how I assessed various features (Scale is 1-10, 10 is the best)

Comfort 9
stability 9
(stays in ear)
convenience 7
effective 7
wind 7
engine 7
road 9
voices 8
yard equipment
mower 8
edger 7
battery useage 10
cords 4

I would reccommend these head phones.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing - a waste of money
As other reviewers have pointed out here (see E.K.Clark's detailed appraisal), these earphones hardly offer any more noise reduction than you would get with much cheaper soft 'earbuds'. Frankly the noise cancelling effect is so slight that it's difficult to tell whether the unit is switched on or off.I've tried them on planes and trains, and they fail to significantly reduce engine noise, voices or air conditioning noise.

This is the first time I've been disappointed by a Sony product, and I felt quite betrayed after believing the claims for noise reduction on the package.Claims of 'reducing noise by 70%', and 'peace and quiet wherever you go' are extremely misleading.Sony should be ashamed of themselves.

To make matters worse, the wires are stiff and far too long to make them comfortable to use even as ordinary earphones.

I can't understand the positive reviews posted here.I can only assume that the reviewers have never tried the 'ordinary' soft rubber earbud phones (Sony MDR-EX70LP), which do as good a job of sealing out noise, at a third of the price.

Sony, I want my money back. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Sennheiser seals its reputation as the classiest name in headphones with the stunning HD600, a stylish and high-tech headphone that's exquisitely pleasing to listen to and nearly as pleasing to wear. A near-perfect mating of art and science, the HD600 uses an open, over-ear design to eliminate unwanted resonances and optimally position its large, dynamic drivers just outside your ears--so they work more like miniature speakers than traditional in-ear or against-ear drivers.

Granted, all this comes at a pretty hefty price for a headphone. But the lightweight HD600 represents one hefty value. It so far outshines other headphones in sound quality, build quality, and comfort that despite its price it's still a strong value.

Of course, with a headphone like this and a name like Sennheiser, it's the sound you're really after. With stand-alone loudspeakers, the goal is generally to provide balanced sound across as much of the audible sound spectrum as possible (roughly 20 to 20,000 Hz). High-frequency reproduction is easier than low, simply because low-frequency reproduction requires a speaker to move so much air. Speakers capable of rendering deep bass usually use large speaker cones--8 inches or more in diameter--to help move the necessary volume of air.

Headphones, of course, are restricted in the sizes of the drivers they can use. Being so much closer to your ears, the amount of air they need to move to convey bass frequencies is much smaller, but still a challenge for what are basically tiny speaker cones. And anyone who's listened to a lot of headphones can tell you, there's almost always a tradeoff in what a headphone driver is capable of. Some produce balanced overall sound with little in the way of bass; others aim for bass at the expense of natural-sounding midrange and coloration-free treble.

The Sennheiser HD600, we're here to tell you, manages--through its extremely high-grade parts and exquisite engineering--to bring home truly full-range sound with remarkable timbral balance. Rich, deep, effortless bass grounds the listening experience while the headphone's airy midrange and treble help render everything from acoustic bass to soprano saxophone and electric guitars with a haunting degree of realism.

The HD600 doesn't offer the lush midrange favored by tube-amplifier enthusiasts--tube fans may find the headphone somewhat bright and maybe even strident in tone. But the rest of us will revel in the expanse of crystalline detail and snare-snappy dynamics.

The exceptionally natural quality of the HD600's overall sound bears reiteration, since so many headphones with "fat" or even "slamming" bass response deliver the low-end goods with a degree of emphasis that, while pleasing to bass aficionados, grossly distorts the frequency balance, limiting the range of music and recordings that will sound good on those headphones.

How does Sennheiser do it? Through computer-optimized magnets--critical to driver operation--that minimize harmonic and intermodulation distortion, granting the HD600 its uncanny clarity and spaciousness. Furthermore, the headphone's advanced diaphragm design eliminates standing waves in the diaphragm material, preventing unwanted emphasis at otherwise resonant frequencies.

As good as this headphone is, however, we don't recommend it to those seeking a stellar headphone for portable use. While this unit is capable of amazing sound, its best performance requires more amplifier power than most portable devices can muster. The HD600 owes its strength in part to its large drivers, which just can't be moved as easily as those in smaller headphones.

Furthermore, the HD600's open-ear design means that sounds pass easily into and out of these headphones, which would in all likelihood prove irritating to you and to those around you in libraries, on buses, and even at the office. These are only our suggestions, however; the fact is your MP3s will probably never sound better than when you're playing them over this headset.

We'll just leave you with one last suggestion, then: if you're after the best-sounding, most comfortable audiophile headphones you can buy at anything resembling a real-world price, look no further than Sennheiser's HD600. --Michael Mikesell

Pros:

  • Natural timbral balance
  • Extremely detailed presentation
  • Excellent bass extension
  • Produces a spacious, wider-than-your-head soundstage
  • Terrifically comfortable

Cons:

  • Slightly bright treble for some tastes

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Deal -- Serious sound
Very clear across the spectrum, thrives on my Klipsch computer speakers' headphone amp, makes iPod tunes sound real good and I don't mind being wired to my work stations.Really marvellous sound. And for 56% off a helluva deal!

5-0 out of 5 stars How My Ears Could Live Without These!
I love to listen music everyday! When I come to school or work morning I usually listen music with stereo headpnones. My own headpones are cheap and not good. One day, I tried my friend Factory Reconditioned Sennheiser HD600 Over-the-Ear Open Hi-Fi Professional Stereo Headphones. I couldn't believe my ears! Sound was so excelent, real and pure! How they have ever succeeded to make so perfect headphones. Your engineers must be genious! These headphones are comfortably to wear and use! My friend who is a hifi-man also loves these and it means that these should almost best headphones what you can get.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
I was really excited to see these HD600s at $210, so much so that I didn't notice the "Reconditioned" part.Oh well.. aside from the a UPC sticker on the product's box with a "REFURBISHED" label on it, I can't tell these apart from new. These headphones are everything that the new ones are, which is to say that they're fantastic. They look good, are lightweight and amazingly comfortable, and above all, they sound awesome--worth every penny. ... Amazon.com Product Description

The Sennheiser HD590 Prestige is a full-size headphone designed for high sonic performance. Audiophile-grade components, lightweight voice coils, Duofol membranes, an open-ear design, and a frequency response of 12 to 38,000 Hz add up to music that's stunningly alive--be it classical, jazz, or rock. In addition, the HD590 works beautifully with both home and personal stereos, offering deep, natural bass without the need for bass boost equalization.

The HD590 features large-surface Duofol diaphragms--special diaphragms consisting of two foils welded together to reduce standing waves (buildups at specific frequencies that unfavorably color the sound) to an absolute minimum. A new transducer orientation ensures better localization of sounds for a wide, spacious sound stage and generally natural sound reproduction.

A 10-foot OFC (oxygen-free copper) cord connects to the left earpiece only, reducing tangles and giving you room to roam. The 0.25-inch phone jack also comes with a miniplug adapter, making the HD 590 compatible with any size headphone jack. The HD590's innovative BioNetic headband is key to its amazingly light weight. This headphone is designed to adapt to the shape of your head, and the adjustable band rides on an airy, plastic cushion for added comfort.

The HD590 is a factory refurbished product, meaning it was returned to the manufacturer and restored to like-new condition. The product comes with a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Watch for amazon's $120 deals - they're an amazing bargain!
The Sennheiser HD590 is something of a bastard child among headphones. Disliked by audiophiles and passed over in favor of the newer HD555 and HD595, unheard of by consumers who flock to the terrible Bose Triports and Sony MDR-V700's, the HD590's have fallen out of favor with the audio community, in one way or another.

That is a shame. These are some damn fine phones. Amazon's occasional $120 deals on them are absolutely fantastic - you will not find better sounding headphones for this much money.

The HD590's offer a slightly bright, very detailed sound, with a very strong, punchy bass. Their mids are slightly recessed (i.e. quieter and more distant than the bass and treble), and it is for this reason that audiophiles bash them. I don't understand this, especially since the very same audiophiles praise the Beyerdynamic DT770's, which are much more recessed in the mids and brighter in the treble.

Their soundstage is very good. They are very three-dimensional sounding with the right recordings, portraying accurately the acoustic characteristics of the recording venue. If you have never heard hi-fi headphones before, you will be amazed at how these portray the spatial localization of each and every sound. They are also very detailed, especially in the treble. You will hear sounds in your recordings that you've never heard before.

These headphones can be driven by powerful sources without an amplifier, but portable devices such as iPods and portable CD players will be hard-pressed to drive them. I would recommend these headphones for home use with stationary audio systems. They will not truly come to life, however, until you add a headphone amplifier. There are many amplifiers available, and I will not list the multitude of different models here. This, perhaps, is their biggest drawback. They really do need a lot of power.

They're also very, very comfortable. They're light, they have a firm grip on your head, but because the pads are very cushy and deep, the grip never becomes bothersome. Instead, they just seem to disappear, like a pair of snug, comfy earmuffs. I've worn these for 10 hours straight, and I didn't notice that I have them on after 30 minutes. They're also very durable, even though they're largely built out of plastic.

The downsides? At $120, I really can't find any. At $150 or the regular asking price, I would say that they're a bit too bright and too recessed in the midrange, and there are other options which may be slightly better. But if you see one of Amazon's $120 deals pop up, grab these immediately! Your ears will not regret it.

Lastly, do keep in mind that these are open headphones. They will not isolate you from the outside world, and they will leak sound everywhere. People in the same room with you will definitely hear what you're playing. This isn't a downside of these headphones specifically, but a downside of open headphones in general.

I use these with my computer, in combination with a Chaintech AV-710 sound card, a 3' Kimber RCA-mini cable, and a Meier Audio Porta Corda Mk II headphone amplifier. All together, this makes for a very nice computer system. For serious listening, I prefer my Stax SR-4040 electrostatic system, but it's not really a fair comparison =D

Rating: A very solid 5 stars at $120. 4 stars at the retail price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing...
I've owned a pair of Grado SR-80's now for a few years.Over time however I've listened to them less and less due to the fact that after about and hour or two my ears are sore. For whatever reason I just haven't realized that there were alternatives out there so when I saw these reconditioned cans I pulled the trigger. The sound is amazing and I'm finding that with time they're sounding better. The high's are amazingly unobtrusive and the bass is..well..awesome.For the money I simply can't imagine anyone would find anything better anywhere.I now listen to music a lot more and am enjoying relistening to music that I had forgotten I enjoyed so much.Buy them...no regreats.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Darn Good
Hey people, if you have any reservations about buying this product because it is reconditioned, worry not. I got mine the other day and there's absolutely no evidence of them ever having been used/touched in any way. And they sound real nice. I would give them 4.5 stars because they tend to get a bit bright when played at high volumes, but at normal (non-deafening) levels, they sound wonderful (Esp. with acoustic-type music). I've just come to expect god-like quality from any piece of audio equipment I purchase. They work pretty well with iPod too.... you just need to have the volume pretty high. Oh, and these suckers are VERY comfortable. Is there better out there? Maybe, but for (...), you can't really go wrong here (when purchasing an iPod, I listened to those (...) Bose triports they're trying to sell, and they sounded/felt like total (...) in comparison to the 590's). Hell, you can probably sell them for about the same price you pay here. So, if you've never heard a good stereo, give youself a treat and buy these, they're probably the cheapest way into high fidelity that I know of. Oh, and if you give these a try, you may want to give 'em a few days before you really judge them. Although I've always been skeptical of this "breaking in" of audio equipment, I seem to like the sound better a week after getting them (~40 hrs use). Who knows, maybe they're just "really growing on me," to quote the Darkness (Hey, what's a review without a Darkness quote anyways?). Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars True Audiophile Phones
Sennheiser is known for audiophile headphones, and microphones. Their vintage mikes are true collectors items, and chances are that your favorite crooners were recorded with sennheiser mikes. The 590's are almost identical to the top of the line 600's. I own both the 590 and grado headphones, and IMHO the sennheisers blow away the grado. The high and mid range are especially transparent and natural sounding, the bass clean, tight and not overwhelming. Great all around choice. They are of lower efficency than cheap phones, so you need a relatively high ouput device or a separate headphone amplifier to realize their full potential. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars good sound, uncomfortable after 2 hours
The sound is extremely adequate for the non-professional.I find it excellent. The long cord is very nice. The headphones do not fold up in any useful way ("folding design" is really an exaggeration) and hence are not suited to being carried around. The major drawback is that these headphones are insanely uncomfortable to wear for more than 1-3 hours at a time. There is no way to adjust them to be more comfortable. It's a serious problem.

2-0 out of 5 stars CPC: Cheap plastic crap
I'm wearing my headphones now listening to music on my laptop, which is good. The bad news is that my right earpiece is attached with shoe-goo because it broke and there was not enough surface area to just glue the stem piece. That is to say, the whole earpiece is glued solid to its bracket so it doesn't move. The over-the-head thing is taped together with packaging tap because it, too, broke when I put the things on my rather large head. They sound fine and all, but I could make a more durable headphone set out of balsa wood.Do not consider these things portable unless your bodyguard is willing to carry them in a padded suitcase.

Maybe I should just glue to the earpieces to my head.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the effort
Sony has let me down yet again with these muddy sounding headphones. I've been doing studio recording for quite some time now and I needed a set of headphones to replace the jensens that I've been using for the past 3-4 years (background: I bought the jensen "PC" headphones new off the net for $12 us. and they have clear, bright sound, a little low on the bottom end but well worth the money. They're only now starting to wear out after regular use for extented periods of time). I've tried the sony phones with various setups: analog recorder, digital amp, cd walkman, mini stereo system, pc and the jensens always outshined them. I also got a couple of other opinions that thought the same thing: the sony phones are too bassy. Maybe rap and r&b fans are the crowd sony is targeting. Either way for $40-50, these headphones were lousy. Also, they weren't all that comfortable either...a little too snug for my liking.

5-0 out of 5 stars great deal - great sounds
use with
ipod - mac g4 pb - powermac g5 - Creative GigaWorks S750 - recording setup

It sounds brillant for so a cheap setup.Highly recommend it!

The only issue i have it is not compact and sometimes the wire gets in the way.Besides that it rules...

2-0 out of 5 stars Totally Disappointed
These headphones have nothing but boomy bass. Highly imbalanced sound. I am sort of an audiophile, but when i bought a $35 headphones, i did not expect the moon and the stars. Sad to say i was let down. the basic headphones that came with my discman sound clearer than these.

Tried them out with my Dell Laptop, Sony Discman and Harman Kardon amp. Bad performance in every case. Allowed 20 hours of break in, still only slight difference. They sound as if the music is lost somewhere within and all you hear are muffled thuds. This is not at all expected from a respected brand like Sony. I would give a total thumbs down to this product.

If all you want to hear is boom and dont care about clarity or balance in sound then maybe this is for you, else stay away. I am returning mine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Headphones
Yes, the price is a bit high, but these are high quality headphones. The single line out the left ear is the best and reduces any chance of catching or tangles. The sound is unbelievable, best from any headphones I own.I use them with my DJ MP3 player for great sound quality from high quality MP3s.

As for comfort, I can see why people don't like them, but I use them in the gym and for my ears, they fit nicely with little to no discomfort, depending on how they are sitting on your head.

If your like me and can't wear ear buds cause they fall out, these are a great alternative for high quality audio.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Headphones For Running
i bought these several months ago, and i have nothing but good things to report: these headphones are sturdy, waterproof (and sweatproof!), and have that nifty reflective patch on both ear pieces. they never slip off my head, and i find the sound quality is surprisingly good. with some adjusting here and there, i can manage to wear squash glasses or sunglasses with these, though having all that stuff behind my ears is the not the best case scenario. basically, these headphones turned out to be much higher quality than i was expecting. great product!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best headphones
I love these headphones so much that I've bought two pairs so far and I'll probably buy my third pair after my second wears out. I've been wearing this style of headphones for so long that I can't imagine wearing anything else! The sound quality is excellent, even when they're falling apart- I wore my first pair so long that they did begin to fall apart! I only bought my second pair because I felt like my first pair was getting old. I don't bring them around with me anymore, but they still work excellently at home!

These headphones are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn- I've even slept in them multiple times without any problems. It's amazing how much abuse they can take and still work, after years of being twisted and crammed into bags and ripped (the ear foam part)!

After owning two pairs of these, I can safely say that if you decide on these headphones, you will be satisfied.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless
I was hoping to be able to move without cords.WHat I got was worse than any cord.

The amount of background noise/whine is horrible.Even with every other electrical system in the house turned off, and the main shut down, they still whine and hiss. The player and the phones were on a filtered battery back-up.

The "auto-on" switch is cute, but due to the bad design, you cannot adjust the headphones to fit.

As far as 150', HA.Could barely get 75'.

All in all you would be better off with a couple of cans and some string.

2-0 out of 5 stars Love/Hate Relationship
While looking for a new set of wireless headphones, I was dreaming of baking Christmas cookies while listening to Christmas music and this would require walking to the kitchen and leaving the stereo in the bedroom. It seemed these headphones would work since the distance is relatively short and other headphones have worked so well I could even walk outside.

"Transmission up to 150 feet" did not work for me. I walk out of the bedroom and the headphones start to hiss. In fact, it is very difficult to get these to work on a consistent basis and the stand design is annoying. When you set the headphones back on the stand, it takes a minute to get the silly headphones aligned for recharging. You can keep working at it until the green indicator light appears, but more than likely, you will
have to hold the transmitter at eye level and adjust it accordingly.

There is an "automatic tuning" button on the headphones so you can "try" to get the best reception of a signal. This has not always been overly fun because you have to keep pushing the button for what seems like minutes. They should have used a dial-style control because then you could quickly get reception. The automatic feature seems like more of a hassle than a help. The transmitter has a noise filter on/off switch and a channel selector that has three options. Once I played around with the channels I had better luck with reception while watching movies.

The automatic "on/off" feature on the headphones is supposed to preserve battery life, but I can't see why they could not allow you to turn off the headphones yourself.

So, now that I've told you all the disadvantages, this does seem to have a few major advantages. Unlike other headphones, I actually could use these while on my treadmill. Once I adjusted them properly, they seemed to work OK for watching movies.

The main thing I noted with these headphones is that the transmitter has to be in the same room as the headphones. So, if I want to listen to CDs I have to listen to them through the DVD player in the living room or have to stay in the bedroom with the stereo.

The headphones don't grip as tightly as I'd like and if you are exercising, they can fall off if you bend over and touch your toes, etc. The headphones are very comfortable and I'd say I have a love/hate relationship with these headphones.

Hissing is never tolerable and the earmuff review made me laugh because it might just be true. Overall, these are the most frustrating wireless headphones I've ever used. While my last headphones finally broke, I'm thinking of buying RCA WHP150C Wireless Headphones again and they are about 20 dollars less. With the RCA headphones, you can walk 125 feet away from the transmitter and still hear music. In fact, I just added them to my shopping cart and will be ordering the RCA headphones again because I love music too much to deal with hissing. Such a pity, these are very comfortable. I can use them with my stereo in the bedroom, but the RCA headphones work better when walking through the house or going outdoors. So, on the bright side, I'll have two headphones and won't have to move one from room to room. Always willing to try to look on the bright side. Sigh...

3-0 out of 5 stars Just mediocre
Pros - good fit and easy on your ears. I like the auto on/off feature and have not had a problem putting the units back on the charging stand.
Cons - these phones are only good for short distances (less than 12 feet) and the futher you are away the more background noise you get. If this is how all wireless headphones are I won't be buying anymore for a long time !

2-0 out of 5 stars More than 4 feet away? Forget it.
I purchased the Sony MDR-RF960RK Wireless headphones from Amazon about 4 months ago, with the intention of using them in conjunction with my home theater system.

I knew from the reviews what the limitations of the MDR-RF960RKs were -- good for TV, DVD and spoken word/broadcast; not so great for music. No problem -- TiVo was going to be the main source.

What I didn't know was how extremely poor these headphones were at receiving a signal past 4-5 feet. When sitting on the coach, listening via the headphones, with a CLEAR line of sight between me and the transmitter, I'd have constant static and crackle in the background -- often obscuring what I was trying to listen to.

After 1 hours worth of use, the problem would start to become acute; I assume the batteries in the phones would weaken, and the reception would thus become even worse.

I tried all the tricks that the Amazon.com commentators and the manual suggested -- different channel, noise reduction system on, turning the input signal on extremely high and then turning the volume down on the 'phones. No dice -- trying to watch anything over an hour would cause the static to be so severe that I couldn't concentrate on what I was listening to.

I used them for about 2 months, and then finally gave up, and decided to switch to the headphones many of the reviews had recommended in the first place -- the Sennheiser RS-65 wireless headphones. The Sennheiser are more expensive (though not by much, surprisingly -- I was fortunate to buy them when Amazon had them on sale), but they are WORTH it -- NO background noise, even with music; and I can literally walk around the entire basement without *any* static whatsoever.

I have found a use for the Sony headphones -- I've put them in my office at work, where the transmitter is no more than a foot from my chair, and use them to listen to MP3s and internet radio over my work PC.They're comfortable phones, easy to use and fairly good sound quality at this distance. And it's pleasent not to get tripped by wires when I'm moving my chair around. And the 1 hour restriction seems to affect them less at this close range.

But with the restriction of distance, I don't think they're worth the price -- unless you plan to use these strictly in close quarters.

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk
These headphones are the worst piece of audio equipment I've experienced. As an avid audiophile, I can honestly state this is one of the worst of my investments in audio gear. Problems:
1. Cheap construction.
2. Very difficult to keep the signal tuned in when you move your head or lean down.
3. Bass response is excellent. The highs are very tinny.
4. Cannot get rid of the hiss no matter how much you change channels. Very annoying!
5. The volume control wheel and channel tuning button are difficult to locate when the phones are on your head.
6. No adjustment for the head strap. The phones fit very loose unless you have a super large head.
I'm going back to my corded set until I find something better. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Headphones I have loved...
These headphones have got probably the best sound range for a $22.00 dollar pair of headphones I have ever heard. The noise canceling is also pretty incredible (that is comparing to headphones with no electronic help what so ever on noise canceling in this price range). I have owned personally the Bose TriPorts and these Sony MDRs may not have the exceptional clarity the TriPorts do, and lack the exceptional noise canceling, but having had to return the TriPorts for breaking many a time I rather the sturdy exceptional quality of these headphones for the price. I now only use the TriPorts when sitting in an armchair at home (kind of takes away the mobility of these things) because I am totally afraid of them breaking again and having to resend them in (I wish Bose would just give me a refund). I hope to someday save enough for a better pair like a Sennheiser or Grados, which I thought my Bose would be comparable to. For now, while my TriPorts are in the shop again, these things are irreplaceable. These things are so sturdy they can be stepped on accidentally without breaking too, which shows Sony isn't in it for instantaneous replacement which always makes me happy in technology. Even though these are exceptional, everything has a problem. The problem with eyewear (which I have previously seen mentioned), but is minimal for me since I normally use these on my 60gb iPod at bed time, walking the dog, or sitting on the couch, I find myself in almost a more concentrated place without thinking about other things as I did with my glasses on. If you are looking for better sound quality, or have glasses and you would like to use them while listening , I would recommend the really nice earbuds the Apple Store sells. The Bangs & Olfsun ear clips are also really nice. These run around 149.99 to 179.99. The JVCs that Apple also sells on there store which are the same form factor as these are also really nice, and don't push on you as much (physically, or on the piggy bank), but after around three hours of listening to an audio book you should still be ready to take a break with the JVCs. All in all, four stars to Sony, fix the eye glasses problem and you should have a five on me for the price you sell these at. As to the earring problem, and long hair, I have never seen a pair of headphones that are full form factor that wouldn't interfere.

4-0 out of 5 stars cheap but good w/ specific disclaimer
...while i'm not going to make like george zimmer of the men's wearhouse & make any sort of guarantee about whether or not you will personally enjoy using these headphones if you happen to buy them, i will still none the less state that i don't think that you'll (most of you, at least) find them a waste of your money. these headphones are probably the second best pair soundwise that i've personally owned or used & they're a whole heck of a lot cheaper than the best pair, which probably ran near or just over $100 at the time (which was about a decade ago- i can't spell the make properly so i'm not going to foul things up for you that way).

some reviewers of this product have stated that the reproduction of mids & highs is poor with this item & that lows are overly emphasized; i beg to differ & certainly feel that the reproduction, while indeed boosting bass, is more than acceptable across the entire audible frequency range & that highs are still crisp. the 6 foot cord that these headphones have obviously restricts their use to an indoor setting (you aren't going to jog with them on); the fact that the cord is a little on the thick side is actually quite good, as the wires within are thus a little better protected & less likely to develop pulls or tears.

the only reason (here's the disclaimer) that i would not give these headphones- given the undeniable sound value that they are- 5 stars is the following: some reviewers have commented on the discomfort that those of us who wear earrings might experience; that being said, i wear a stud in 1 ear & it's not that which comes into play with discomfort, but my eyeglasses. frankly, i usually have to take them off if i'm using these headphones for any extended period of time. so, i take my glasses off when actually i'd like to leave them on & that being so i award no fifth star! well, enough babble ... wearers of eyewear be at least mildly aware- for all you other folks, definitely still cheap but good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality headphones for a decent price
I wanted a pair of decent headphones for home use, so I purchased the MDR-V150 Sony stereo headphones at Best Buy for $20.99 (w/o tax). For the price, they are very good headphones. They have quite a bit of bass, which is something I prefer over the wimpy or non-existent bass in headphone "clips" or the sport headphones. The ear cups are very comfortable and cancel out some sound as well. The chord is a bit thick and definitely extra long, around 6 feet in length. But honestly that would be my only complaint if I had to complain about these headphones. Overall just a good pair of quality of headphones for home use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Paired with an Emerson HD8118 personal cd player, these are the most awesome headphones I have ever had. The only reason there is no fifth star is because there was a little too much bass in the sound (too much bass from 30mm little drivers? the second smallest driver size?) but not too much that it makes me complain. Sony will not let you down with this great but cheap pair of headphones. Buy, buy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the price
I purchased these a few days ago at Best Buy. I wanted a good pair of headphones for home use. My Panasonic ear clips are more for use exercising and outside. Excellent sound on these! The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the headband is a little snug on the top of my head (I have larger than normal head), so I have to have them tilted a little. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great sound, not quite as great a fit
I've had these for about a year now, and for the price, they are a great set. They seal out external noise very well; with music playing even at moderate levels, I can't hear my coworkers talking in the cubes next to me.They're also very good for first person shooter games, I picked up on very slight noises that I ordinarily wouldn't hear on my other headphones.

The fit is definitely not universal, however.I don't have an overly large head but these cause discomfort after about an hour or so.They just squeeze too tight!I use them at work because I'm normally wearing contacts, but if I wear these with my glasses on they press my ears against the stems so hard it is far from comfortable.

For anyone with a small-medium head size, these are a great set of closed ear headphones for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Bassists
These are perfect for me.I use these for practicing my bass playing as well as for playback on recording applications. The bass is terific, but doesn't drown everything else out. They were a little tight to wear, but after a couple of days they fit perfectly.I find them to be very comfortable even after an hour or two.The cost isn't overwhelming for the overall sound quality.
the chord length is long so you won't have to buy an extension.
Overall these are perfect for what I need, and at the right price.

5-0 out of 5 stars The headphones grow on you...
I migrated from an ultraportable over-ear RadioShack set of headphones which had great sound at the time compared to previous cheap sets of headphones I owned.Unfortunately, the cord was short and the end plug would lose a good connection.I checked these out and noticed reasonable reviews and a stress on the bass.I thought, "Why would that be a problem?Great way to drown out NYC subway noise and so on..."

Initially, I was rather unimpressed with sound quality (I thought there was really no difference from the older cheaper headphones) and it was quite uncomfortable as I was breaking them in.You see, I wear glasses and thus I'm very picky about comfort over my ears and it took 48+ hours for them to become comfortable. Now, I can wear them many hours a day without discomfort and it is getting better.

Yes, the bass is strong, but not overpowering.I've actually used an equalizer to boost the bass in when streaming online radio (Musicmatch and the like)!I've noticed quickly (a) how tinny my previous headphones bass was in comparison and (b) how crappy the quality of some of my MP3s actually is and (c) how having stronger bass helps me to discriminate between crappy music (mindless and simplistic) rhythm/beat and good music which has a more nuanced and complex beat.

So a quick lowdown: long cord is awesome!Bass is slightly emphasized (and crisp!) but mids/trebles are well pronounced.Comfort will grow on you.I definitely recommend it...

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Buy!!
I was really skeptical about buying these headphones, because all the guys were writting how they have too much bass, (and for guys to say too much bass, well, it must be outta control!!)
Let me just say that these headphones, in fact, do "NOT" have too much bass, and rather they sound really nice. It is a very clean, crisp, and smooth sound, that is not overwhelming to the ears, but rather pleasant.
I just received mine today and have only listened to them for 10 minutes, but that was enough for me to write a review.
I highly reccomend these headphones!! And if these headphones seem to have too much bass for you, then there are probably many at Walmart that will take care of that problem for you!!

3-0 out of 5 stars egh
I bought these a couple months ago and i was pretty satisfied with the sound. They might not look as sweet as the pictures made them seem. The cables are extremely long, thin and annoying. It always end up being tangled or something like that.Mine actually ripped so the left right cup isnt working, but i am going throught the sennheiser service policy to get that replaced.I am now considering the sony mdr's priced around $100.If you are extremely serious about your music listening, maybe invest a little more then these sennheisers. ... Product Description

NoiseBuster electronically cancels irritating background noise so you can enjoy peace and quiet or enhanced clarity of music with reduced distortion. Try it on an airplane to reduce engine din and enhance the sounds of in-flight entertainment. It's also great for use with exercise equipment, while commuting or mowing the lawn. Background noise degrades the quality and clarity of music in two ways. First, it masks certain tones in the music, making the sound unbalanced. Second, in order to compensate for noise, people tend to overamplify the music, causing distortion. NoiseBuster solves both problems and therefore delivers the utmost in music clarity when used with portable audio devices. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Peace and Quiet
Here to Hong Kong and back several times. This product saved the day.Not dead quiet but a big enough impact to make sure I was comfortable and undisturbed.Managed to sleep 9 hours on one flight.Didn't hear a thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best noise-cancelling headphone in this price range
I owned the original NoiseBuster Extreme! model for many years. After much hard usage, they were beyond being held together by electrical tape anymore. That's OK, I got my money's worth out of them.

So I went looking for a new set. Before discovering this new Noisebuster model NB-FX, I tried the PlaneQuiet Latitude and NC-6 models. The Latitudes are priced at $20-$30 and are crap: sound quality is horrible, and noise cancellation abilities are limited. The NC-6, priced about the same as the Noisebuster NB-FX is better, but still lacking: sound quality is much muddier than the Noisebusters, and an audible hiss can be heard when the noise cancellation circuitry is on.

The NoiseBuster NB-FX isn't an audiophile headset, but it does produce reasonably clear sound, certainly clear enough for airplane travel and other noisy locations.I'm very happy with the bass, midrange, and treble response. The noise cancellation on this model does not have that audible hiss (even the old Noisebusters did), and does a fantastic job of cancelling out unwanted noise.

My only complaint is the comfort of this headset, but I usually have the same complaint about any set with a band of any kind.My favorite headphone style (for comfort) is earbuds, but I haven't found a set of earbuds acceptable for travel yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great on a plane
This is the first set of head phones that I spent more then $20 on.I used cheaper ones on plane trips (DVD Player) and i had to press them into my ears in order to hear anything. After 1 trip with the NoiseBuster's I wonder how i ever lived without them. The noise canceling technology is a wonder, all i heard was the sound from the dvd player.Another great feature is the way they fold-up.Although it's not totally flat, it does fold down and fits into my laptop case quite easily.Well worth the purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smaller, lighter and cheaper than the Bose-but works as well
I have had a pair of the previous older model of the NoiseBuster for several years. I have traveled extensively (almost 2 million miles) on the airlines, many with the little airline supplied headsets delivering a poor sound, painfully. The NoiseBusterheadphone will make you incredulous that you are getting high quality sound from an airplane sound system! Who would have guessed it possible. I now use it with my iPod as well, on or off the airplane. The noise cancellation feature even improves the already high quality iPod sound.

I borrowed a friend's Bose headphones for two flights thinking they must be better than the far cheaper NoiseBuster, but they are not. The Bose does have ear cups that will completely cover your ears (well, most ears) for an 'isolation booth' type experience, but the sound is not better with the Bose, as far as I can tell. And the NoiseBuster is small enough to put into a briefcase or (if you carry one) a purse. The Bose is pretty big and needs to be in its own case. The NoiseBuster will fit into the pocket in the seatback in front of you.

If small size, high functionality, travel convienence and price are factors for you the NoiseBuster is the right choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price.
Noise Buster is a great buy for the price. It is comparable to Bose which cost far more than this.I own NoiseBuster for several years and I am very happy with it.I travel about 4 to 5 times per year on airplanes and it cuts down dramatically the sounds. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid sound, solid value, extra long cord.
If you are an audiophile, go spend $150 on some overpriced headphones that sound 8% better (I recommend the Grado SR series). For the rest of us, these will do nicely.I have found them very comfortable for long music or gamingsessions. In fact, my housemate borrows my headphones whenever I am out of town because his Sony headphones (around the same price) are uncomfortable. You may have a funny shaped head, but most should find these pleasing to the ears in terms of sound and comfort.

The sound quality is very good. Not audiophile quality, but solid and clear.Very strong base response. If you are used to cheap headphones with no base, you may need a few hours to adjust.

"Mere mortals" should be very pleased. Those with golden ears, save your comments for the outrageously expensive stuff!

Last note:These things are larger than they appear in the photos. They are great for use at home, but they will look goofy if you wear them on the bus with your portable MP3 player!

Highly recommended for home use.And the long cord is great!

5-0 out of 5 stars The pinnicle of auranautical excellence
The absolute best headphones I've ever owned. The bass is incredible, like subwoofers in the ear. The midrange and high tones are perfectly reproduced. I first tried them with fable on the Xbox and you can hear things sneaking up behind you and it sounds like they are behind you.<br /> They fit really well and I can use them for hours on end with no discomfort. The main thing is they pound out bass like there's no tomarrow, gotta love German engineering.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Headphones
Tired of the stock iPod earbuds, I decided to get these headphones and I'm satisfied with the purchase. At first I was a little disappointed in the sound, but after giving it a "burn-in" period they have improved greatly. The sound is very clear and rich, I'm hearing parts of songs that were inaudible before and enjoying more bass. The only downside is that because they are open headphones they allow exterior sounds to seep in, making it hard to hear some songs in a loud area unless you raise the volume a bit which could damage your hearing. They're most ideal at home or a quiet area, but good enough to use on the go.

In terms of portability the cord is extremely long, but I keep it tied up and have not had any trouble.

Overall, they're great headphones, but be aware that open headphones allow sound to seep in.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bang for the buck.
These headphones are very comfortable if you know how to adjust them correctly.People talking about muddy bass are right if you play it extremely loud. You dont want to do that.Music played in excess of 95 decibels can cause u to go deaf. The maximum of decibels on this is 114 so yeah these can make u deaf.So play music lower than 95 db if u wanna hear for the rest of your life.If you play music very low to moderate like me the bass is perfect. The belt clip that stores extra cord is very handy because i have a ipod that doesnt require much cord at all.

2-0 out of 5 stars All bass all the time...
Pro: I really prefer the fabric covered ear pads. Very comfortable.

Con: The sound of these headphones is very disappointing.

The package says "Enhanced Bass" and the bass is definitely enhanced; to the point of being ridiculous. These provide indistinct, throbbing, muddy bass that makes you ears hurt after a short time. You can correct some of this with drastic EQ settings by why should you have to do that?

Other users say that a 12+ hour break-in period helps, but if anything, that made things worse.

I think this is an attempt by Sennheiser to satisfy the same people who thinkgood sound means rattling windows....quantity instead of quality.

If you think over-driven car stereos that make the ground vibrate are cool, these are for you. But if you prefer balanced sound with rich bass, look elsewhere. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad!
I happened to place the order before reading all the negative feedback: so got worried after reading'em.
However, my experience so far (15 days) is positive:
Pros:
1) good build quality
2) auto on-off for the head phones
3) charging stops automatically (the green LED goes off)
4) decent Range: not exactly 150 ft, but 50 ft is what I would say, with walls in between. Beyond that, noise increased, but still it was ok.
[I am using with noise filtered turned off!]
5) good acoustics (compared to price)
Cons
1)Charging position (not a major one, IMHO)
2)proprietary batteries !
3)short cord to connect the base to audio source

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless
You basically can't tune in a clear signal, tons of background noise and sputtering.Worthless.An Xmas gift, so at least I didn't spend any money on them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as others say
Wife and I each received a pair of these for Christmas. We use them mostly for watching TV and movies at night when the little one is in bed. The tuning takes a bit of patience, but once I had them dialed in, they work great. The output from the TV is very high, and seems to help eliminate any static or interference. (There's a mention in the instructions about turning the volume on the source up high, I think this is missed by many users.)

I can walk around the house (even the basement) and listen to music or the TV with only an occasional crackle at the far end of the house. Battery life seems good, and the charging cradle is a great idea. It takes a bit of attention to make sure the headset "latches" onto the base properly, or it won't charge. Oddly enough they seem lighter than you would expect based on the size.Sound quality is quite good, considering there are no headphones I've ever heard of that produce bass you can FEEL.

I'm not sure why there are so many poor reviews of these units.. it may be intereference, or the output level, or possibly, Sony updated the design to improve reception and reduce noise.

1-0 out of 5 stars As they say, they're bad.
All the negative reviews are correct. Why I did not check Amazon before I bought them in a shop I'll never know. I'm stuck with these headphones that are pretty much useless. For one they ruin the enjoyment of music because of all the static. You maybe sitting only a couple of feet away from the transmitter but turn your head this or that way and it's all over. I cannot get a good clean clear signal. I can't believe how bad the wireless technology is with this product. Forget walking about the house with these. I can't get a good signal when I'm sitting next to the transmitter! No matter at what volume I have the things set at it's just not acceptable to be hearing all pops, static and hiss.
Also if no audio signal is detected after a few minutes they'll turn off - when this happens you'll be blasted with a wall of loud static white noise. Not good.
As a side note it's a real fiddle to get the things back into the cradle and lined up so they'll charge. Yuck. Avoid at all costs.

2-0 out of 5 stars not there yet...
I wanted headphones to use with my guitar amp. and home theater system at home.I was reluctant to try wireless systems because I had negative experiences before, but then I thought hey, wireless headphones have been around long enough to achieve the level of sophistication. Well I was wrong. There is no way to totally eliminate the noise in these headphones, even so close to the transmitter. (I made several tests, making sure no object was interfering) .The slightest noise in headphones is enough to bother users, so wireless headphones is an area that requires absolute perfection. Bottom line, this set does not provide that. I'm wondering if bluetooth or higher frequencies have resolved the issue, but yet they're expensive. For now, I will extend my wired headphone cord.

Another problem is placing the headphone on the charger, it requires some attention and skills... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic general purpose investment!
The V6 (not V600) headphone by Sony is a classic. While studio professionals will want more than these can offer, most general consumers will love these headphones. They do an honest job of sounding incredible and being collapsable for travel and storage. Metal instead of plastic is used in some areas of its construction (see photos), and it comes with a carrying bag. If you want hip-hop headphones that boost bass response there are other choices you could make, but I find these great for DJ use. The MDR-V6 has amazing overall range and volume making them perfect for iPod or CD player use. I was once told, "This is the best music has ever sounded" from a friend who tried them. They are so comfy for travel and block some outside noise naturally. These are a fine investment as your only pair of great headphones, or to add to your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic that's easy to find
I've sampled nearly the whole Sony headphone line, but the V6 is notable for its flattering sound and good value. While it's unlikely to meet the requirements of a seasoned audiophile, it will delight most everyone else with its ability to render many types of music well.

The pads are extremely comfortable. (However, continued use may cause the rubber to flake after several years; Beyer makes fine replacement pads.) As you'd expect from closed headphones, the sound is a little "closed-in" -- but detailed enough to do justice to anything from classical to punk. These are fun headphones capable of a nice dynamic range.

The V6 doesn't try to emulate the sound of a concert hall or a studio; rather, it offers a pleasant musical experience of its own.

-- It's reasonably priced
-- They play many types of music
-- They're easily driven by iPods or CD players
-- The V6 is (aside from the pads) an amazingly sturdy performer

If you're picky...
-- The sound is "colored" (that is, not completely accurate)
-- They have a closed-in sound -- a result of their being closed phones

I've since graduated to the Beyer DT880s, a notably better phone. But the V6 has legions of fans, for obvious reasons. Even people who hate Sony headphones concede the V6's attractive sound. They've served me well for over a decade.

5-0 out of 5 stars No "Pounding Bass", thanks to Sony
Good:
1~ Ultra-low distortion
2~ High efficiency
3~ Nearly flat response curve across a broader range of frequencies than any human can hear
4~ Good isolation
5~ Folds for easy storage
6~ Durable long coiled cord
7~ Comfortable, conservatively styled
Not so good:
8~ Earpad covering not very durable (but easily replaced at small cost)

In sum, the MDR-V6 is one of the best headphones on the market. It transduces audio signals extremely accurately. It feels andlooks like a professional tool, not a Star Trek prop. If a recording is bad, this set will show the badness in extreme high fidelity; some people may not like that.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pounding Bass????
After reading all the praises over these headphones, I decided to purchase them..so know I wonder, I don't know what kind of music you guys listen to, but it's not that these things have not the greatest bass, is that they simply do NOT have bass.
I would definitely use these phones for what they were made for at first, which is fidel monitor reproduction or studio works, but on a everyday basis, they just totally don't do it for me.Any reccomendations?

5-0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING SOUND!
I am an avid music listener and can definitely appreciate quality sound. I've used many different headphones, ear buds, etc. and the Sony MDR-V6 are by far the best I've ever owned. The sound is crystal clear, they are comfortable to wear and they fold up! After doing my research and reading countless reviews I decided to pull the trigger and go for it...I'm glad I did, these phones rock! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Grado SR60 vs Sennheiser HD497
I don’t want to brag about how good the can is, coz' the whole world has hailed its performance over and over again. The very fact that this can is repeatedly compared to ones costing over $300 itself speaks of its astounding performance (... and unbelievable for its price). So I will give you the cons of the product that I have experienced.

CONS:

1. The headphone can be uncomfortable for extended wear. Many people have mentioned if you bend the headband backward or if you stretch the headband etc.... it gets more comfortable, but I haven't quite succeeded in achieving absolute comfort that Sennheiser HD497 provided.

2. Too much sound leakage. Since it is an open design, it leaks so much sound to the outside world, so I am forced to listen at low volumes at work. But then physics places a limitation that sealed headphones cannot achieve the quality of open headphone (resonance issue... you can easily find info. as to why on the net...)

Conclusion:

1. When you listen to the can, its pure sound quality, imersive music melts all the cons away and makes you promise yourself that you will never give away this can.

2. If Bass is not much important to you, the Sennheiser HD497 provide a more crisp clear high. I have owned both the models, so I can vow on that. But overall, I would any day take the SR60 over the HD497.

Currently I have graduated to SR80 driven by a Headroom Total Bithead. But if you do not plan on getting an AMP, then I suggest you stick to SR60.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not perfect
Ok so your probly looking at theses headphones because youve heard so much about them from various reviews raving about their 'best sound under $100'. I could believe that , tho im not totally convinced they would be the best sound for everyone.

Pros -
Comfy, Very comfy. wonderfully soft earpads and well designed headband.
Retro cool styling (for me at least)
Can be driven well by almost anything (because of their low impedence)
Fair price.
Made in Brooklyn NYC (Representin' ! lol)
Nice sturdy cable that doesnt feel like its gonna rip out.
And finally, the Sound. Silky Smooth, beautifully accurate sound allows to hear exactly what was recorded. No distortion, just a great listening experience.

Cons -
Not very practical for using on the move due to .....
doesnt feel very secure resting on your head, i try not to look down just so they wont slide off!
annoying cable which while not being monsterously long (6'), is very thick so wont roll up easily in your pocket.
Very poor attenuation of outdoor sound, due to them being open backed (no cover on the other side to your ear, almost the same volume comes out on both sides of the earpads. very common for audiophile headphones.)
Very high leakage of sound, for the reason just explained, you'll get alot of looks on the subway from ppl hearing ur music
Bass is not as boomy as alot of music lovers my age (16) would want it to be. but its good enough for me.

right right now u can better decide on which cans to go for. i would recommend these things for anyone who has an ipod , good sound card or quality hi-fi system and likes their music to be played thru some serious headphones (and doesnt mind an open backed desing). I like 'em........ 4.5 stars!

5-0 out of 5 stars Will make you remember the first time you heard good music
I love these.I bought them to listen to music while designing a website.I plug into my computer, turn on the music, and I'm in another place. They're comfortable, clear and you hear music in the way it was meant to be heard.I woke up, threw in my Garden State cd, plugged in and am in bliss as I get ready to go back to the webdesign caves.

I think they look pretty darn cool in a "Radar O'Reilly way."

The plug at the end of the cord is the small plug that fits a computer and ipod and you receive an adapter to fit that big-honkin' hole for a stereo which I'll never use.

This is one of my best purchases for 2005.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice headphones
Plain and simple. They are great. I got these for listening to my winamp player on my pc. I had a $20 pair of old radio shack headphones and these blew them away. Thanks Grado!

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Cans for the $$
I recently bought these cans for my daughter to use with her iPod mini...I had read good things about these headphones even with the criticism(?) of antiquated styling, uncomfortable headband and open headphone style...Wow!I am so impressed with these headphones that I offered to swap my Bose Quiet Comfort 2 for these. She said NO!The response is so smooth with a dynamic range that allows you to hear every nuance recorded onto the track.Bass is true...not artificially enhanced or boosted...highs are razor crisp and midrange is full and "round."Don't look any further for your headphones...these are worth 4X the price...I know! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
I have used the headphones for 2 years -- they offer a material reduction in the "droning" noise on airplanes.

Even when I am ready to sleep and I turn my music off, I leave the headphones on and it reduces the ambient noise.

I think you arrive much less fatigued.

3-0 out of 5 stars My first pair of headphones, okay I guess...
These are my first pairs of noice-canceling headphones. They were great for the first month I used them.I mean ULTIMATE PERFECT! Great for exercising and walking outside.

HOWEVER, with the noise-canceling feature on there is a slight buzzing noise, but if your music is on loud enough it will block out the buzzing. For those who don't like listening to your music too loud, these headphones are not for you.

Anyways, after only a MONTH of owning these headphones, the left side of the headphones began developing a crackling noise.Whenever the bass would kick in from a song it would start crackling like CRAZY.Or if I wore them on a windy day and the wind was blowing against the left side of the headphones the crackling would be unavoidable.

Fortunately my speakerphones came with a 90 day warranty, so I will be sending them back to the factory. However, even with the warranty there are no guarantees of "free" repairs.

Overall these speakerphones are VERY VERY comfortable, but you might start sweating around the ear after wearing them for a long time.
The sound quality is better than any other speakerphones I've ever owned, but still it has its flaws.

2-0 out of 5 stars Headphones do not hold up
I have had these for almost two years and I have found that they do not hold up well. The padding in the ears has flattened totally making them very uncomfortable. The headphone cord has become stiff so that I have to bend it away from my face. The biggest problem that has developed is creakyness. The headphones creak anytime you move. The creaking is loud and unpleasant and resonates inside the headphones. If you are trying to wear them while sleeping on a plane the creaking sound is very disturbing.

The noise cancelling is good on a plane and the sound is good considering the price. However I would not buy them again because they have aged poorly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Noise Cancelling Headphones
I will admit that I recently gave up my Sony Headphones for the Bang and Olufsen A8's ----- however, that was more for portabilities sake, than sound

with regards to sound, this is the BEST pair of headphones that I have used

The noise cancelling features are excellent! -- putting these things on, along with the noise cancellers, allows you to hear sounds that you never knew existed within many of your favorite songs

I compared these headphones, head to head, on an airplane, against the Bose Quiet Comfort 2, and there was no difference in sound - both performed excellently, and equally, within the airplane environment ---- however, the Sony ones were more comfortable and MUCH cheaper

Don't even waster your time with the Bose Quite Comfort ---- grab a pair of these and you'll fall in love quick!

2-0 out of 5 stars Uncomfortable But Works A Little....
I wore these for about an hour while riding the bus and couldn't wait to take them off. Maybe if I could find a way to replace the minimal amount of padding around the ears they would be better, but I doubt if I can.The headband felt fine.

They did reduce the background noise to some extent, but it was still noticeable on the bus.Actually, my ipod headphones were louder than the Sonys with the ipod set at the same volume, but the sonys seem to be a little easier on my eardrums due to the fact that their not jammed in my ear canal.

I'm considering returning these and getting the Bose QuietComfort 2. Although $300 for a pair of headphones is obscene, I need something good for long flights and I'm not sure that these will do the trick.

These headphones suck without the noise reduction turned on.With it on the sound is better, although somewhat muddy compared to the headphones that came with my ipod. I suppose I would rather wear these on a plane, bus, or train than my ipod headphones because they are easier on my eardrums, while still allowing me to hear the words of the music I'm listening to.

As you can see they look great and they fold up nicely too.I wish they would just make them more comfortable.

5-0 out of 5 stars But of course, it's Sennheiser!
For anyone new to audiophile headphones, you may be surprised to learn that Sennheiser is THE name in the audiophile headphone business, and have been for some time now.

In case evidence would help you:

1)Ask the pros - HD600s are popular in serious studio recording, where sound quality is all-important.
2)More expensive is not necessarily better - other companies use their names or unnecessary and expensive materials to bump up the price....
3)Sennheiser is interested in "true sound", and, accordingly, puts into their products the right materials and excellent acoustical engineering.Everything in the 555s is for sound quality and comfort and durability.(Some headphones use wooden shells, fancy materials, and other such gimmicky things...that's just plain stupidity if you consider the sound, but it gets buyers that don't know audiophile headphones.)
4)Open vs closed - sound is vibrations. The air needs to vibrate if you want good sound.Closed headphones may help cut out noise in some situations, but it will dampen the sound in all situations.(Sennheiser's audiophile line are all open.)
5)Look at the stats! - the stats alone are better than most...the 555s are, essentially, standard for audiophile headphones...595s, 600s, and 650s are better, but other brands have a tough time matching even some of the lower ones, such as the 515s.
6)Noise cancelling vs pure quality - I have tried Bose noise cancelling headphones, which attempt to advertise good quality, but in fact, the noise-cancelling mechanism calls for the "closed" type and, furthermore, functions by running a sort of noise-dampening frequency, which, sadly but inevitably, dampens the sound (and puts pressure on your ears).Nice feature for noisy situations. However, audiophiles typically seek out a quiet place to listen.(Although in my experience, 555s sound so much better I prefer not having noise-cancelling over lesser quality.)
7)Great entry level - as above, these are the standard within Sennheiser's line of audiophile headphones.Even so, if you are just moving up to this quality level, you would be surprised how clear the music is, how suddenly you can hear the details you have been missing...in comparison, ordinary headphones or other companies' headphones simply sound trashy - the pitches may be there and the general sound is there, but no tones, no flavor, no character, no spirit. You'll be surprised how much you have been missing.
8)Sound reflection - just as Bose uses sound reflection in its speaker systems, Sennheiser uses such technology to create a more real experience...thus, they work great for movies too.Instead of having half the orchestra on one ear and the other half on the other, it will seem more like you are actually in a concert hall.(Although, at this price level it still won't be perfect...still, it will be better than the vast majority.)
9)Sennheiser is legendary - Do you know what the world's best headphones are called?Try Sennheiser Orpheus. They were a limited edition, only 300 were made, and are reportedly absolutely surreal.(The Orpheus, being so rare, is not very available...the best price I have seen is $12,000, and that is IF they are for sale.)The 555s follow in grand footsteps.

Now, a few points of advice if you get serious with audiophile headphones and get 555s or better:

1)To use them to their fullest, try to use them through good hardware... (iPods and mp3 players are pretty good, but if you want to go all out you could get amps, etc.)
2)Healthy volume is 70 decibels or less (about 70% of the max volume on 555s)...and, sound quality is generally better if you don't force them all the way up.(Finding a quiet environment helps.)
3)enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELTS!!!!!
After reading the other reviews here, and exploring my options with other products, I got these babies.

OH MY GOD!!!

I plugged them into a Panasonic SL-SV573J PORTABLE CD ( Crappy product that has NO VOLUME POWER AT ALL ) and put in an opera CD that was remastered from a 1962 live broadcast from Salzburg (MONO no Less) Ok it was DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHONE...but MY GOD! I never expected what came out of these babies.
I am listening now to that Opera with Leontyne Price. I have had the thrill to be on stage with her at at MET ( OK, I was an extra body, but I did get close enough to hear her Beautiful, Powerful voice)
These 555 Puppies bring back all the realism to the live performance I remembered then.

So what about a STUDIO RECORDING?
FASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS...these babies are going to blow you away.
I Plugged them into my new SONY D-NE 10 with "Josh Groban" on board and I was unable to make a fist for 2 hours. It left me LIMP!! and USLESS!
WORTH EVERY PENNY...I would not take time to type lies..

TRUST ME... BUY THESE!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Holy crap!!
I've written maybe three reviews online before, and they're all about things I've hated and felt the need to denounce. This will be my first positive review.I've wanted a pair of Sennheiser headphones since I was little and I put them on in an Audio King. They were so comfortable.Unfortunately, if I were to have one complaint about the 555s, it'd be that they could be less tight (although I haven't had them that long, so there may be a way to adjust that).

I write music as a hobby and have an okay set up, but my headphones were not very good.I did get a pair of the Bose Noise Cancelling headphones and although the noise was nearly eliminated, I didn't think the sound quality was much better than the $30 pair of Philips over-ear regular headphones I'd had for years. They weren't as comfortable either.I rarely listen to music through headphones where it isn't silent, except on the street (while walking), which is somewhere I'd prefer not to be hearing-impaired (car noises are important indicators in the city). So for me, noise-cancelling wasn't the right choice. If you want an amazing pair of monitors, these absolutely are just that.

You can feel the music, and I don't mean that in the way you can feel a stereo turned up too loud.It feels like you're there. The first thing I did with these was listen to an arrangement of mine to look for problems I might've missed while using my iPod headphones (I've had to use those while finding a replacement for the Bose, which I sold on eBay for the same price I bought them for!).When the bass drum hits it's clearer and more real than when I played it in my junior high band.Everything is very crisp and clear, and they do block out a little bit of noise.

These headphones are worth every penny.Words can't express the quality of the sound, so you really have to try it out if you're unsure.I think they're getting more comfortable too.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT HEADPHONES FOR THE PRICE
The Sennheiser 555 headphones are EXCELLENT headphones in their price range. The have very good clarity and can be driven by my old Sony portable cd player without any problems or an external amplifier. They sound very good with all types of music, be itclassical, jazz, and good old rock and roll. Very clear instrumentals, up front vocals and exceptional clarity. They are vey comfortable to wear for long listening sessions. My only advice is that if you can afford the extra few dollars upgrade to the 595 Sennheiser headphones for a truly GREAT HIGH END HEADPHONE.Either headphones will give you the satisfaction you desire from your recordings but the 595 headphones will just AMAZE YOU.Buy the 555 or the 595, which ever the budget will allow, and enjoy your music like you never have before. Also see my review of the 595 Sennheiser headphones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great headphones for the blues
These Sennheiser HD-555 headphones are the best I have ever listened to the blues with. They have excellent response in the midrange and also give a very full and deep feeling for the bottom end of the music without giving away the great highend mix you get in the harmonica and piano.I listen to a lot of old time delta and chicago style blues along with some of the newer blues artists and for the money you cannot go wrong with these great headphones.I will be telling all my friends about the quality of these headphones for this type of music. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product for the $$$
Have wanted to purchase a pair of wireless headphones for quite sometime but when I saw these on sale for the price, it was hard to pass up.I am very satisfied with the product and results.I can now watch TV, listen to music, in bed without disturbing my now asleep wife.I also have a small hearing problem, so I wish I would have know about these for my parents or any older folks who have lost hearing and find it difficult to hear the TV.Rather than turn the volume up sky high others can actually have a conversation without screaming.Good value for the money and would recommend to all. Very easy to set up and get started.

2-0 out of 5 stars Are these headphones or a PC modem dialing up??
Ok, I was ecstatic when I first thought about getting wireless headphones. I mean the idea is perfect, is it not? You get to walk around your home and do anything you like while listening to anything from any source, without being tied down by wires! It's like a dream come true. So I looked online, and found this RCA model. I went out and purchased it, and I was VERY disappointed.

The reviews here all have compliments about the headphones. But I live in San Francisco, where it's very crowded and most houses are attached to one another, so there's ALOT of interference. I didn't hear any of the loud static noise everyone keeps talking about that resulted from the auto shut off feature. What I did hear was a Spanish radio station and just some static. Strange huh? As for the reception, I hooked up the phones to my stereo, played a CD, and the sound was AWFUL. I could barely hear the music with all the static. I tried using the channel wheel, which helped, but as I moved around, I had to keep turning that stupid channel wheel, which is very fustrating. I recommend that you look for models with automatic channel tuning so you won't have to deal with this.

When I did stay still and had a good signal, the sound quality wasn't very good anyways. My Sony earbuds are way more superior than these full sized headphones. It's very noticeable. The phones sounds on par with cordless telephones, but with much more static. And if you're wondering the phones can be connected to your TV, yes it can. It has an included cable that connects to the Audio Output on your TV/DVD. But I was disappointed here too. The reason I wanted to get wireless headphones were so I can use them to watch TV or movies very loudly while not disturbing anyone. I thought the phones would cut off the TV speakers, and only play the sound through the phones. But no, it played in both. And since I could barely hear any sound from the phones, I had to turn the volume up on the TV, so it got loud enough that I could hear it throughout the house. So that feature goes down the toilet.

If you really want wireless headphones, I think waiting a few years would be best. The technology will provide much better models than these, and will probably be cheaper too. The only good thing I can say about the RCA ones is that they look nice and are comfortable to wear. Mine's had a silver casing which stood out from the black models. But even that has its flaws. The base unit feels so light and weightless that you just wonder if it's doing anything at all. And sometimes one little tug would send the base falling to the ground from wherever it is.

Thank you for reading my review, and I hope you find better models out there. Good lcuk!

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected
I bought these mainly for use with a TV and I have no complaints. The sound quality is good, and the range is throughout my house. I can keep listening to a show if I have to take the dog outside. They are comfortable. I can easily wear them for the duration of a movie. I use rechargeable batteries, and they last over a month with about 2 hours of use per day. I also use them occasionally to listen to music and the quality is almost as good as a corded pair of headphones that I have.

There are two knobs on the right hand side. One is the volume control and the other for tuning. It takes a few days until you learn which is which. After that, you won't fiddle with the tuning when you want to adjust the volume. I have never had any interference and so never needed to adjust the tuning.

These are definitely useful when you want to keep the sound to yourself or roam about while listening to headphones. Also, voices are much easier to understand through headphones than through speakers, especially during a movie. I wouldn't mind using corded headphones except that I don't want to sit close to the TV and I want to be able to walk around occasionally.

The base unit shuts off about a minute after you turn off the source. If I mute the TV during a long set of commercials, the base shuts down and all you hear is noise. This is so that you can shut off the headphones without having to get up to shut off the base. I learned to turn down the volume on the unit instead of using the mute during long commercials.

You can either plug the base into a headphone jack or, with the adapter, into RCA plugs labeled audio out. I don't notice any difference in terms of sound quality between the two.

2-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat OK...
I got these headphones for christmas, and they were great!I'd give it five stars, if it wasn't for the terrible auto-off feature that it has.I meditate alot and I like to listen to new-age streaming radio, but when the signal gets too weak or the music stops for a few seconds, the transmitter turns off, causing a horribly-loud, cacophonous static.I mean, its just horrible. Why is this even implimented? Is it to prevent people from leaving the headphones on after they've finished listening to music by giving them a horrendous screeching sound? :P

Other than that, they were excellent.Great sound, and the best thing is I can go around the house listening to music on my computer.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good set of headphones for the average listener
I just picked these headphones up from Best Buy and I am quite satisfied with them. They don't have the acoustic or physical range like some of the more expensive models but these do exactly what they need to do in my small apartment. Like the previous reviewer, I found placing the transmitter above my head to help improve the signal and reduced all ambient static to a very slight buzz when nothing is playing, alerting me to the fact that the system is still on. Every now and then when I move, I get minor static, but it's not too distracting. Even though I've connected the system to a headphone jack, RCA provides a "Y" adapter that makes it compatible with a stereo RCA jack. The auto-power off function is a nuisance but an overlookable one. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Pros & Cons
I wouldn't say I'm 100% satisfied with the product. But Here are some Pros & Cons, I hope you find it helpful.

Pros.
Long and flexible cable (10/10)
Stylish (9/10)
Portable (7/10)
Noise Canceling (8/10)

Cons.
Low Volume (4/10)
Battery Life (5/10)
Durability of the headphones (3/10)
Bass response (Suxx)

I am thinking really hard to return the item but I will give it a trial for couple of days before I make up my mind.

4-0 out of 5 stars What I expected
These headphones delivered exactly what I expected from a $41 set, good sound but lacking in the noise-cancellation department. The fabric cord with an extension piece is nice and the design makes it fun to wear. The switch for noise cancelling on/off is well located as it doesn't take up room on a seperate piece or on the cord and the foldable design makes the headphones relatively easy to transport with big pockets. Basicly, everything one can expect fromSony for $41. (Since flying with them I would change this to a 3 review... they just didn't deliver much with the noise cancelling.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Noise Canceling Headphones...
yes...the MDR-G94NC. these are very good sony headphones. the sound is great, they're comfy, the style is sexy, but the noise canceling isnt the greatest. however, it is still good. also, they're compact and not bulky. this means portability. there isnt a separate piece for the switch, the switch is acutally on the headphones themselves. recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so good
These headphones do not stay on your ears. Maybe if they were like the other wrap arounds.
A good idea but more of a hinderance of keeping them on the ears.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice and Portable Noise cancelling headphones
I just got them three days back and I have to admit I like these a lot. First, from a design perspective they are just COOL. When all the other noise cancelling headphones (at least the good ones) are big and bulky, this one is easy to handle and use (behind the neck design) and it folds away for storage. The sound quality is good but cannot be compared to my Sennheiser HD-500 headphones. The noise cancelling function needs a AAA battery and does a good job (not exceptional). I tried them while mowing my lawn outside and they worked pretty damn good. All-in-all I am gonna be using these all the time when I am not at home since they are not as bulky to carry around as my Sennheisers. Recommended. ... Read more

These Sony headphones are lightweight, economical, and comfortable. The MDR-101LP stereo headphones have an adjustable, overhead headband which allow you to fit them perfectly to your head's shape. The open-air design removes undesirable resonance by allowing outside air to pass through the headphones; the result is a better sounding headphone. The thirty millimeter drivers deliver deep bass. The Sony Acoustic Turbo circuit is included for high efficiency; it gets high sonic output from your portable stereo, and extends bass response. Put together, these two features help counter the tendency of headphones to sound cheap and bass-low. The long, one meter (3.3 feet) Y-style cord allows for ample movement and separation from the sound source.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bang For Your Buck!
Well, I needed some new headphones. I tried the UR5 from Koss. The sound quality was alright, but they could BARELY be heard. I found these, thinking Sony, would make headphones with better and louder sound. I was right.

The good news is that the sound quality is excellent. Sony headphones always seem to have more punch than other Koss, RCA, Panasonic, and other brands of headphones. The bass and treble are clear, and bass is pretty deep as other $6 headphones I've tried. I would have enjoyed the headphones that came with my player (SLSV570), but they were uncomfortable, and I mean VERY. These are pretty comfortable and lightweight, as the box explains.

The bad news is the overall durability of these headphones, which is a big minus. I've been though two of these, yet the third ones haven't broken yet at all (keeping my fingers crossed).

The price is very reasonable and very cheap, and I wouldn't have a problem buying another pair, because of their cheapness.

Overall, these headphones add a punch to your music, and the volume is loud for those quiet CD players.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value for the Kids!
Great basic headphones for the kids. Why spend more on something likely to be stepped on, yanked on, or lost?

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value, Good Sound...
Sony makes some of the best headphones. I paid a bit more for these 3 years ago, they last a long time. The foam pads fell off after two years of regular use, but I had spares from a old pair. These 'phones are made to last and unlike some of those other funky headphones they are comfortable to wear, I wear them for hours at my PC while writing papers/ doing hw. Highly recommended, even for those who like good sound. These deliver rich base, and are good for mp3 listening as well as dvd watching. In fact, for the price I just might buy a spare. A plus side with this is if you are hard on stuff or simply like to carry headphones in your backpack you don't have to worry about them--the price is so low.I hope this helps. What are you waiting for? Buy some headphones. These headphones fit into anyone's budget.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Quality for the Price
Can't beat the sound for the price. Use mine for jogging. Used for over a year and still going strong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality for the price
I bought these after one of my older cheaper headphones broke (can't remember the brand, but they were absolutely terrible). I was actually quite amazed, these were much better over my old ones, and for very cheap price. The bass can get quite deep, and the highs are nice and clean. These headphones work great for any music listeners or gamers, and even the kids could probably use 'em.

*EDIT*
After a few years of using these phones I've noticed the bass severely crippled and became heavily distorted on both ears. The actual headphones themselves are in good condition, but the sound is just not the same. I'm done with these phones... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally, someone got the clip design right
Okay, headphones are a pain in the a$$! Trust me, you need to go through thousands to find the right ones. Let's get on with the review!

Sound Quality (4/5) - The sound quality on these is far by good. The bass is very deep, not too deep, but having bass too deep IS a problem (can't hear anything but BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!). If you wanna hear deep bass, put pressure on these. Feel discomfort from the clip and have a headache for the amount of bass. Congrats! You've become an idiot! Anyway, the volume on these is quite loud, but not quite as loud as Sony's h.ear, but the treble is better. Who says you can have it all (if you've ever heard anyone tell you that you can have it all, please hit their head with a shovel)?

Comfort (5/5) - Now, if you read the packaging (which contains someone who looks a lot like Jennifer Lopez, btw), it states things about comfort. Well, those are in fact all true. These headphones are VERY comfortable, and at times I can't notice they're on. Definite 5 stars in comfort.

Design (3/5) - Ok, design is good and awful. Let me break it down:

Good:

- The cord is long. Why good: This would be good for people using these for computering, studio monitoring, video/music editing, things that NEED a long cord.

- The cord is made with strong plastic. Why good: This would be good for bike or ATV riding. Cords get damaged from being hit with a helmet, or just in the air. This is perfect for that, and other similar rough activities.

- The plug is gold plated. Why good: This would be good for most audiophiles and people (freaks) who detail every little thing in every song. Gold plated plugs also seem to be louder than silver plugs.

- The hook is a spring hook. Why good: For people with elf ears (pointy ears), this will make it easier to fit on.

Bad:

- The hook is a spring hook. Why bad: This is the biggest negative of this headphone. The spring hook, makes the speaker go away from the ear, taking out bass and volume that all those audiophiles (and freaks) just love. Why else is this bad: This also make it leak sound. This is a pain for people listening to loud music, which make a little distraction for people sitting next to you (like a bus, or classroom, or a public place).

Features (5/5) - Yay! A positive! The features on the w.ear are pretty great. Firstly, the interchangeable covers is a nice touch, and there are blue and silver to choose from. The silver sure looks nice next to my SLCT582V, and the blue would look nice on more colored objects (such as a bright colored CD player, Sony's new PSYC players to be specific). As I said, the spring clip is a big positive and a big negative. So yeah, there may be only two features, but these are headphones, you're not getting a thousand features on them.

Portability (5/5) - Ok, pictures mean nothing. Yeah, their "clip design". That's what I like to call advertising. Not all clip designs are slim, but that is what Sony and the picture are making you think. Even though these DO happen to be very slim, fair warning. Anyway, these are very slim. Slimmer than my slim design CD player. So, these are very portable.

Price (4/5) - The price for these are surely not a bargain, but they aren't overpriced. The price is set about just right. Most headphones with these features would be also around the $20 mark.

Who they might be for: These headphones would be for people who aren't TOO picky about audio quality, but still want decent sound from them. People who might be using them for long periods of time, or have small-normal sized ears. Maybe for people using computers, or for studio monitoring of some such (but you will need to buy an adapter). People may want to consider these for durability, for maybe people doing sports, bike/ATV riding, or other rough activities. These may be good for people who are using these in not-so-public places, but still travel a lot, or even for home usage. These would be good for people who like interchangeable covers and style.

In my opinion, these overall deserve 4 stars. They aren't exactly perfect, but they're damn there close.

5-0 out of 5 stars A satisfied user
If you're into to music with heavy bass content and delight in driving vehicles with massive subwoofers, these are not the headphones for you. Then again the devices you normally use these in don't output alot of bass to begin with. So go get the can-style headphones.

For everyone else; hey, these are great. They do the job we need perfectly. Want to disguise the fact your using an iPod or need to hear the outside environment while listening to your tunes/fifth race at Haymarket, get these.
I got mine when my Nth set of Q33s bit the dust and have only noticed a slight drop in distant radio reception on my discman.

2-0 out of 5 stars Eh...I expected more
Looking for headphones to go with my iPod, since the earbuds that came with it hurt if I wear them for long periods of time...

Not impressed with these headphones."Rich bass" my ear -- the cheap headphones that came with my last portable cd player have better-sounding bass. These Sony headphones are tinny sounding, and I need to crank the volume to hear anything through them (or press the 'phones to my ear -- the spring clip doesn't have enough tension to put them in that place for me).

On the plus side, I suppose, they are comfortable to wear - I don't find that they "deform" my ear in any way, and they don't hurt. They'll suffice for running, but I'll be sticking with the Apple earbuds for other uses (plane trips, at work, etc.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Just What I Was Looking For
These headphones are great. They are lightweight and compact. I can barely tell that I am wearing them. They are comfortable because a wire is all that goes behind your neck, no hard plastic. They are definately better than any earbuds. I had a pair of TDK earbuds that came with my MP3, but they hurt horribly! These are far superior, and worth the money.

2-0 out of 5 stars SONY STINKS!!!
Okay, before i start, let me say that i am both and audiophile and a gym rat. So when i work out or run, its all about the music. I also listen to a variety of music; from simple guitars and drums to electronica. This is why i need headphones that are perfect. However, im not loaded, so i need headphones that are AFFORDABLE and Perfect.
Well, sony has done it again. They've become one of those companies who simply believes that if they stick their label on an item it'll sell. Unfortunately, thats true cuz when i saw SONY on a pair of headphones for 19.99, i bought them. These headphones are not a good deal for the price. First, they have no bass ports (little holes on the side of the headphones) which are usually needed to provide rich bass. Second, i hate this sliding-clip design. Just make the headphones click into place sony!!! you dont have to be unique about everything!!! The only thing i love about these and other clip on headphones by sony is there single cord design; where the cord goes behind then neck from the left to the right earpiece and then a single cord goes from the left to the cd player. No one else seems to copy this design, so i end up buying sony.
If your not a big audiophile, these earphones deserve 4 stars. I think the same clip headphones from phillips for 14.99 at target are a better idea. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Most impressive.
Not going to write much, as most has been posted on the site, but definitely get these headphones if you're looking in the 50-100 dollar range. Actually these are better than many higher-end(higher-priced)headphones I've tried. Only complaint is that the headphones might be slightly large and heavy - extended use makes for hot ears. Nevertheless, the sound quality is superb. You won't be dissapointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding sound
I just received these headphones yesterday and the sound is incredible, I am hearing instruments on my albums I never even heard before - The sound is crisp and clear. I am not going to write a long winded review of these since so many have already been written. But I will say do yourself a favor and pick these up, you won't regret it.

They are a little heavy but they are also extremely durable. Some reviewer mentioned that they killed his neck, well, I don't know what to say about that except that unless you are a child these should not fatigue you like that.

And also, whoever wrote that the lifetime warranty honored by Koss cost him 25 percent of the purchase price to ship back is insane. The cost to ship back the phones is $6.00 flat. And unless he paid 24.00 for these, his statement is incorrect.

So sit back, relax and enjoy your music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I got these headphones because my dad got tired of hearing the bass from my stereo pounding through the house. These headphones take nothing away from that head-shakin sensation.I had originally gotten these for use with my stereo but I have found they work extremely well with my iPod Shuffle as well.I had heard that a portable device did not have enough power to drive these headphones but they certainly do.The sound quality is terrific in general.Even on my awesome stereo I have not been hearing every little detail in my music. It wasn't until i strapped these on my head that I have truly experienced my music. My only complaint is that they are a little on the heavy side so when you run around, they tend to slide forward on your head.Surprisingly, they do not make my ears boil when I wear them for long periods of time which is very nice because I tend to listen to entire cd's at a time. The Koss 4AAT's are well worth the $65-$75 you spend on them.I reccomend them to anyone who appreciates music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best sound at best price
I have just recieved the Pro4aa and hooked them up,I tried them with several types of music, the sound is clear and sharp the bass responce is great, for the price and quality this is the one you want.

2-0 out of 5 stars Shoddily Made -- greatly disappointed.
I have a set of 30 year old Superex ProB VI headphones that are still going strong -- the Pro4 line has been around about as long, so I figured to try them out. Audio quality is FINE, but these headphones only lasted about 6 months before something broke. Looks like the sliding mechanism on the top ate the far channel. These have a "lifetime warrantee", so I sent them back, but that will end up costing about 25% of the purchase price. No excuse for such a poorly designed mechanism... sad to say, these apparently are made in the USA.

Would not buy these again, sorry to say. ... Read more
