3-0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For
I bought this guitar because it was cheap, 38" (I thought that it was full size), and because I am just starting to learn.

I'm not really sure why the previous reviewer felt so happy with this guitar, but I am telling you, even at $45, this guitar is not worth the money. First off, the fretboard is plastic. I guess this doesn't really matter, but the feel and looks of it are unsatisfactory. Secondly, the tuners are plastic, and I was extremely lucky if the guitar stayed in tune for more than 3 hours...without me playing it! Thirdly, the strings are off the fretboard by at Least 3/4 of a cm past the 10th fret. This is highly uncomfortable and forces you to apply much pressure to avoid the buzzing. Lastly, though this CLASSICAL guitar comes with a thin nylon bag, flimsy strap, pick, and an extra set of strings, it is still not worth $45+.

I have returned this guitar and have spent the extra $15 to buy the "Rogue RA-100D Dreadnought Guitar, Natural" and I am Happy to say that I am totally satisfied with my purchase. You can see my review there.

Unless you are a talented and experienced guitarist who can manage the extremely difficult challenges in playing this "toyish" guitar, I do not recommend it, especially for beginners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great starter guitar!

1-0 out of 5 stars An exceptionally poor tool for learning to play guitar
I've an advanced classical and rock guitarist, having played for 15 years.I have taught guitar lessons before.

This toy is marketed as an instrument to help learn guitar.I'd like to explain why it is overall a poor instrument.I played it for a few hours in stores, so this review is based on my experience with it.

First of all, here's what the toy can help you do.It can teach you fingerings. That is, it can teach you what frets to articulate when playing chords and scales.Unfortunately, it only goes up to the twelth fret, which will limit your ability to play on a normal electric guitar, which typically has 22 or 24 frets. These extra frets mirror the first 12 at an octave higher, but they also are quite a bit smaller, so adjustment to them isn't instantaneous.Learning to play solos involves learning not to have trip over one's fingers in the crowded upper frets. The EZ-EG cannot help you with that.

Here's why the instrument is a poor instructional tool.Playing guitar, even at a beginning level, requires more than simply learning fret positions.Guitar is a highly nuanced instrument. To play well, you need to learn how to perform a variety of articulations, such as slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs, bends, taps, mutings, vibrato, and more. Most of these are simply impossible to play on this toy.Note: Such skills need to be learned at the same time one learns basic fingering. They go together. You will severely handicap your playing style if you learn to play on this toy alone.

Even worse, the most difficult part of articulation for beginners is learning to put one's fingers in the right spot near the frets. This toy has you press a button instead. Thus, if you were to learn on this and then switch to a real guitar, you very likely won't be able to play.Instead, you'll produce string buzz, because you won't know how to position your fingers. You need to learn how hard to press, at one angle to press, and where to press, in relation to the fret. This takes a while, but it is vital that correct articulation in reference to the frets is learned as soon as possible. If you learn to play on this toy alone, you will handicap yourself.

Thirdly, guitars have metal strings, often at high tensions, depending on what type of guitar you are playing.Beginners normally say that the strings make their fingers hurt.An important part of the learning process is to practice until one develops calluses, so that one can slide one's fingers on the strings all day without pain.Again, if you learn to play on this toy by itself, you will not be able to play a real guitar.

Fourth, the toy sounds bad, like a cheap Yamaha keyboard. For a guitarist like myself, it was fun to play the synth sounds in the store where I saw this, but they were of low quality. If you are looking for a guitar synth, buy a Roland synth and pick-up system.

Fifth, an additional part of learning the guitar is learning to care for the instrument.A beginner needs to learn to tune strings, perform adjustments to the bridge, neck, and nut, and so on.Beginners frequently break strings, since they pick too hard, and it's important for them to learn proper right hand technique in reference to real strings.Tuning is especially important, because it helps the beginner learn what is known as relative pitch.

Overall, then, learning to play using this toy in isolation is counterproductive.A beginner will learn bad technique that must be unlearned when she switches to a real instrument.

If you wish to buy it as a beginning guitarist, please make sure you purchase a real instrument at the same time, and practice primarily on that.I do not dispute that this toy can help you learn scales, but that's all it can do.By the way, there are real guitars with LED inlays that will teach you scales and chords, too, without having all of the potential for disaster this toy has.

For this purchase price of the EZ-EG, you could acquire a decent low-end electric guitar, string it with .08 gauge strings (which are quite easy to play), and be off to a good start.

4-0 out of 5 stars great guitar alternative for medically challenged fingers
I was a professional guitar player for years, 20 years ago (closer to 30 years ago) and had to give it up due to insulin dependent diabetes. The damage of 4-5 times a day of finger sticks to test blood sugars and the infections caused by the callouses of many daily hours of playing were just too great for my body to overcome.I haven't been able to play guitar since.

I found this guitar while shopping at a Sharper Image store and was instantly hooked. It doesn't create any pressure on my fingers at all, because the electronic keypads only require a very light touch. It does not have the feel of a real guitar and can't begin to pick up the nuances of play from real strings, but if you are unable to play a regular guitar for whatever reason, it's a great alternative.

The guitar does go momentarily slightly out of tune every time a new chord is played, but it only lasts 1 or 2 seconds and unless you are acutely aware of tone values, probably won't notice the difference, it self tunes immediately. It is easier to pick out songs than a regular guitar because the steel pickup doesn't vibrate the way a regular string will, hence your picking can be both truer and faster than with a regular guitar and no buzzing of strings either.

For a beginner, I can see this as having a fast learning curve, but will probably create some problems with transferring onto a regular guitar because as long as you hit the correct frets, it will give you true sound, which on a regular guitar will never happen unless the correct amount of pressure and the correct fingering is taking place.

I don't know how durable this instrument will be long term but I am currently deeply in love (again).

4-0 out of 5 stars fun toy for beginners
This is definitely one big toy. But I am having a blast with it so far (it is day 3). I tried to start with a real electric guitar but that was too overwhelming. I have some knowledge of chords but little innate talent. So a tutorial guitar is just what I need to have fun and practice the basics. This is not a substitute for lessons though. You will only learn some rhythm guitar from the midi stuff. Also, you have to let go of any feeling of not liking the midi sound. Still, if you don't have a band, it's nice to strum along to something. I figure if I can learn all of the chords changes programmed into the guitar, I will have a decent background for picking out my favorite tunes. So in sum, the drawbacks are you can't slide down the neck because of the keys, you won't learn any picking from the tutorials and while you get 10 free midi songs from the website, the rest are priced around $6 a shot. Also the tremolo attachment impedes any sort of flashy follow through action with your right hand (but the tremolo comes off easily). I almost forgot to mention that I had a lot of difficulty getting the software to work from the url given in the packaging. After many error messages, I ended up searching for a windows xp update for both the midi usb driver and "song filer" the program used by yamaha to download songs onto your guitar. Even though I can't read Japanese, I went to a Japanese site and bless 'em cuz everything worked like a charm! The strong points are the many sounds you can choose from including 12-string (even though there are only 6 strings), overdrive and distortion. You can just play your own thing or practice one of the programmed selections. The electronic capo is really cool and the tempo adjuster is helpful. I haven't tried alternate tuning yet. But I'm sure it will be fun once I get the hang of it. I will try to write more after more time has passed. All in all, I'd recommend this for someone who isn't ready for the real thing yet and likes electronic gadgets. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Yamaha quality
Yamaha once again prove to the leader in making high quality beginner instruments from stringed instruments to wind instruments. This basswood strat-style guitar offers the player humbucking pickups and single-coil pickups for awide array of sounds AND a free-floating tremelo. The neck offers adjustments at the headstock which makes set-up much easier for more efficient playing. Hardware is what you would expect for a beginner instrument, but the beauty here is once this guitar has outlived its initial usefulness, the once-beginning guitarist may overhaul it completly to make it satisfy the new needs of an intermediate shredder. Basswood is a high quality tonewood and the bolt-on neck option makes it possible to give new life to this beast for just a couple-hundred dollars should the beginner wear out the original neck. The tremelo will only last for several yaers depending on playing time and wear and tear, but alas, this can be replaced with a professional quality trem. My 1985 equivilent Yamaha SE250 has recently been overhauled to a tight little shredding unit complete with Wilkerson trem. A $100 Carvin neck made this little number fly again and fly high, too boot. The amp just sucks however, but it gets the job done initially. If you're a parent, get used to spending money for your child's instruments. If you find yourself spending more every few years, more than likely your kid is improving and one day will thank you whole-heartily for supporting one of the most satisfying abilities one can ever learn. How to play an instrument. If you're a working adult with a knowledge of guitar instruments and wish to learn guitar, suck it up and spend at least $300 on a guitar only and buy an amp seperately. For junior just starting out, this is the way to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars yamaha makes superior music instruments
i have an acoustic as well as an electric guitar. when i was a teenager and i could not afford to buy my own guitar, i used played with fenders and ibanez and washburns and gibsons and starocasters, nothing really compares to a yamaha. yamaha is the best there ever is. now that i could afford to buy anything, i will only give the best to my sons, yamaha pianos, drums, of course guitars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yamaha is SOLID
I've had this guitar for over a year and it has served me well, except for the input jack plate(plastic) which easily broke off after setting it down on a hardwood floor. I highly recommend the first mod you make to this guitar, if you want to call it that, is to replace the factory input jack plate(note, just the plastic outside plate, but you can replace the jack itself if desired) so that you won't have the same problem as me, I find myself soldering the wires to the input jack just because I didn't do this before I snapped the wiring. Getting back to the review, the guitar is awesome, very solid and comparable to a stratocaster. This EG112 Yamaha guitar blows the Fender SQUIRE out of the water, with much faster action, and two screamin pickups, one being a humbucker which you can easily switch between to get that echoes jimmy page sound or crunchy jimi hendrix sound. Granted, you will need pedals to assist you and perhaps a decent amp. But actually I like this amp, it makes a GREAT PRACTICE AMP, but will not get any louder than your average hardheaded drummer. It gets decent distortion, and does the trick for practicing and showing your friends a cool new riff. The only trouble I had with mine was a blown fuse, which was an easy 5 minute fix, it's a little smaller than a car fuse so you might have to go to osh to find one or rummage through your garage, like I did. But overall, this guitar should last you as long as you want it to. I don't take very good care of mine, and it's still in perfect working order after a year and a half of abuse, knock on wood. In order to keep the neck straight, buy a guitar stand for 15$, this is a must, don't lean it against your wall. Most importantly, have fun, and I've gotten nothing but praise for this 200$ gem from all kinds of guitar players, I paid 100$ with the amp open box so go figure). My best advise is to play it at the store and see what you think. If you don't like it email me at jcsilva1606@gmail.com
Rock on

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good strong guitar.
I bought one of these thinking it would be a peice of junk. But it is very sturdy and it sounds good. the best part is it comes with evrything you need. picks, Amp,extra strings,Quik-Tuner,Wammy Bar,case, cable, shoulder strap. this guitar rocks. but if you want a louder amp you may want to upgrade but it still sounds really good. and it stays in tune for ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars High Quality & Great Value
I recieved this guitar package as a Christmas gift only a few days ago.I was very impressed, as it had everything that I needed to begin with. This package included the EG112 guitar, guitar strap, 7 watt amp, a gig bag, guitar stand, Yamaha guitar method book, extra strings, digital tuner, guitar pics, string winder, and a bar.My first time to play a guitar was on Christmas day.I have had the guitar four days, and I have already learned to play "Ode to Joy" and am working on "Yankee Doodle."The method book is very easy to understand.I have a friend who is an experienced guitar player, and he played it the day that I recieved it.He was highly impressed, and said that it was the best learner guitar that he had ever seen.In my opinion, the guitar sounds and looks great!I am very pleased. The price is highly economical.I have seen many other beginner packs selling for more than $300.It is also manufactured by Yamaha, which is a very trusted brand. If you are considering the purchase of a guitar, I strongly recommend choosing the EG112. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Guitar!!
The best acoustic guitar I've ever played and is very durable. I was afraid the black would scratch and wear off soon, but it's held in tact just great. Very smooth, couldn't ask for a better guitar for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Guitar
I've had a great experience with Washburn.(...)

5-0 out of 5 stars I got the Black one, it sounds sweet.
Won't sound like a $500 Martin, but sounds just like some of the 300 - 400 guitars on the market. I was worried that the black one would have a more muffled sound than the clear laquered one I tested at musicians friend, but I am very happy with the way it sounds. It sounds as good as my 71 Aria Classical. Different but as good. I did (some) shopping around and this was by far the best deal I found. Great guitar, ok strings, bought some new Martin ones with my order, but haven't put em on yet. A total plus for me was that the black one just looks SO dope! I actually feel cooler playin it. (Sure that last comment is lame but I don't care.)

5-0 out of 5 stars the best accoustic for the money
i wanted to add an accoustic to my band (we play mostly rock) but i didnt want to pay alot it was epiphone washburn and ibanez against each other and ive played all 3 at the local guitar store and can tell you this is the best of the 3 it has diecast tuners not plastic ones that breakoff it has binding so its unlikely that the neck will fall off(a problem with alot of cheap accoustics) and great tone from the mahogy back and sides it plays really well and is good enough to be your main accoustic for many years

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
Guitar came on time and they delivered it in good shape. Thanks guys and it's a definite must have sounds awesome. I've enjoyed it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Kramer Focus VT111S - The $75 (or less) Guitar That KICKS!
At first hearing about these things I, like many others, thought "how good can a $75 guitar be?"; then I got one.

I'll tell you, VERY nice (XL)strings, great neck, no fret buzz, and great body/finish. I played it without an amp at first and couldn't believe the action on it. Then I plugged it in.

Basically, it sounds just like a Fender Strat, only it feels a little nicer and plays a little better. I also then plugged it into my V-Amp 2 ... My GOD, it's freakin' sa-weet!

I HIGHLY recommend it for a guitar for open mic nights, kids and beginners, intermediate players, or just to mess around with.

As Chris B says;
"If you're willing to spend $300 on a guitar, consider buying a few of these. Hell, you could get 4 of them. One in each color. For the money, there's nothing better available. Nothing at least that I've seen."

PS: I got the VT111S during the holidays, it cost $74.99US in SunBurst; it's purdy!
I've never played a "cheap" guitar that was so good; in fact, I'm collecting the other colors now!
Forget the negative things others say about this guitar, it's WORTH the money; believe me!

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
Yes, you can't expect much from an $80 guitar. But there is a line that can be crossed in terms of poor quality. Basically, this instrument is unplayable. Doesn't stay in tune for more than 10 minutes, horrid fret buz, the high E string gets caught beneath the final fret, etc. etc. Do yourself a favor, wait a couple of weeks, save up some more money and buy the next cheapest thing -- it's bound to be better. A disservice to beginners, an insult to more advanced players. You've been warned.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Price and Service, but Requires Set Up
I got this guitar for my daughter for X-mas.(Actually, they had over sold the black-body model and so I got the seafoam green at no additional charge.)The paint is great, it looks very nice and sounds good with the exception of what I would call excessive fret buzz on the high E and B strings.I adusted the height of the saddle for these strings (instructions are not provide with the guitar, but are available on the web from a number of sources). Also, when it arrived, the strings were rusty.I contacted Music Yo via email and they told me just to wipe them down.I'm not this hot-shot guitar player, but as I understand it, once strings go rusty, they need replaced.I may be wrong about this, but replacement strings were not offered in any event. The guitar stays in tune pretty wel, but I do have to tune it with some regularity.

I've seen the guitar compared with the Fender Squire series.I haven't played one of those, so I can't comment on playablity, but this guitar looks better than the Squire.

With the exception of the string issue, Music Yo did a good job on its end.The guitar arrived quickly and undamaged. The shipping cost was very reasonable.

Overall, I give this guitar a positive rating, but the fret buzz and the rusty strings certainly disappointed me, especially with what otherwise was a very nice guitar. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT Value for Money!
The Oscar Schmidt OE30 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar is a GREAT guitar, and its price weighs in at a mere $149 (plus applicable taxes and shipping). I used to sell these, and they play good and sound great. They make good starter guitars or are ducky for geting back into playing. They also make a fine second guitar or for when you need an instrument tuned to a chord for slide.

If you're inclined at all, how could you go wrong at this price?

5-0 out of 5 stars Decent guitar for the price.
When I saw this guitar on sale for such a low price, I just had to give it a try. I just received it today, and I have to say I'm quite pleased with the purchase. This guitar certainly doesn't compare with some of the $1,000+ axes I own, but for the $129 I paid for it, it was a steal.

This model is available in 4 different finishes, the cherry is what I purchased. The other three finishes are black, blue-burst and tobacco-burst. Having now seen what I got for my $129, I've just gone ahead and ordered another in blue-burst. You just can't have too many guitars, and this price sure makes it easier to satisfy my addiction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Value=Price
I ordered this guitar from Muscian's Friend for the same price less $20 coupon. I think it is a wonderful instrument for the price you pay. I was looking for a hollow body when I found this one. It played real well out of the box. I will have to do minimal set up to get it to play the way I want it to. I am still partial to my nine Fenders! This is a great practice instrument and great for a beginner too. I will use it at a gig soon and see how it does and will update this review.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible value...
I'm a Fender/single coils guy and wanted a creamy 335 sound to round out my arsenal. Does the Delta King nick it? Probably not, but what it DOES do, it does remarkably well. I LOVE the sound (and variety of sounds) that this instrument produces.
On neck postion with the tone wide open, it is wonderfully jazzy and warm. It is vastly superior to my Epi Zephyr Regent (I'll probably sell that, now that I've found what I was looking for). Chords and lines ARE creamy, although perhaps lacking the defintion and 'sing' of a 335. But this is a $150.00 axe. $2200.00 might buy that Gibson 'intangible', but I don't have that kind of scratch. Middle postion is suitably jangly for pop and rock, and great for funky 9th chords. Bridge position is chunky and pleasantly brittle. Very good for funky ol' blues solos where infinite sustain isn't a vital part of the equation.
The OE-30 is a wonderful change for me. I haven't enjoyed noodling so much in a long time.
This is, arguably, the best guitar bargain ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Great Guitar
Over the years I've owned several guitars and I have to say that this one is one of the best. The finish is a beautiful deep transparent red that brings out the grain underneath. After changing the strings to a gauge that I'm comfortable with it plays like a dream. The tones of the "Delta King" range from a country twang to rich and bluesy. All and all I have to say that the purchase of this guitar was one of best deals ever. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Bad choice!
Ordered first guitar from Musician's Friend and it came with a crack in the body!Called them and they payed for the return shipping.I had to place another order for the replacement guitar because I needed it by the weekend for a birthday present to my nephew.Well I got the second guitar only to find a nail sticking out of the back of the body of the guitar!!!When I played it the strings would hit the other frets driving me crazy.Sent them the second guitar back as you may have guessed.Would never order this or any other item from this company.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great guitar for the price
This is my second guitar so I am hardly an expert but it is beautiful to look at, has a great sound, and is well constructed.
String tightening system works great--easy to tune and stays tuned.
This guitar is everything my first guitar wasn't! ... Read more
