5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a beginner!
This is a good guitar at a great price.I bought it to develop my childrens' interest in music and guitar.

I have never played guitar but I have been a musician for 40 years.I can tell you that it sounds great. It looks great.

For this price, it doesn't matter if the kids are a little rough on it.I'm glad that I bought two and I would gladly buy another.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really great for the price
Honestly, I have to agree with all other reviewers.I thought I should comment here since I've actually played the guitar for a few weeks, and it's still wonderful.Holds a tune wonderfully, comes with the Martin strings which sound great, and as a starter guitar you can't get anything better. So it's not a name brand; who cares! All that matters is the sound quality, and I couldn't be happier with that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet.
For $60, all I can say is Wow.

I think the best part was taking the guitar out of its box. The smell of its new paint and glossy finish made me smile. This has everything one can want out of a starter or traveling guitar. In addition to the specifications and features listed in the product description above, the guitar looks nice and holds its tune very well. When you put it in your lap you can tell that the guitar was built well and is pretty sturdy. I actually have no quibbles with it (considering it was only $60).

I was debating whether to buy this Rogue or the Washburn D100, but after reading the reviews and ratings at Musicians Friend, the two are basically ranked the same despite their $40 difference and brand name reputation. You honestly can't go wrong with either one, but if you want to save $40, go with the Rogue. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For
Overall, I was very disappointed in this item; there's a reason it's such a cheap price and they're trying to get rid of them. It's a smaller guitar than I expected, and the strings are poor quality nylon -- the 1E string snapped on me as I was tuning it, five minutes out of the box. Also, because it doesn't have a trust board, you can't restring it steel strings. The "tuner" it comes with is just a pitch pipe (with a tinny sound at that), and the other "accessories" aren't as great an added advantage as you'd think.Personally, I returned this after the string snapped on me.I'd recommend this guitar only if you're an absolute beginner, and even then, you'd probably want to learn on something a little more durable than this. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars one woman's review
I've been playing the violin for 20-plus years and the guitar for at least 10 years, so I guess you could say I'm a fairly accomplished musician. As a musician, I have to say that this guitar is worth much more than its asking price. It looks great and sounds even better, especially considering that it costs so little to buy!I've owned several guitars and this one sounds just as good as any of the other popular brands. It's easy to tune and hold its tune just right. The proportions are nice, too, and fits nicely with my small hands.I'd recommend this to anyone, especially anyone looking to learn and practice. The black color looks great, too.By the way, I ordered this guitar on June 5th and it arrived to me on June 8th -- talk about fast!

    5-0 out of 5 stars A great guitar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A great guitar for the price.Great sound, great quality and a very low price. It easily looks and soundsequal or better than a300+ dlls guitar. The only thing that looks a little bit cheap(but hey, is cheap!!!) is the rosewood fretboard but again looks like a 300+ dlls guitar and this one is only 50 dlls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing for the price
I saw this guitar on sale and ordered it on a whim, thinking that if it were no good I could use it for a canoe paddle or give to the kits to play with.I have played bass recreationally for about 17 years, and occasionally strummed a guitar here and there.I currently own a classical guitar I've had for 10 years, and sold my steel-string guitars several years ago.I wanted this to replace the steel stringed ones, and to take camping, when I didn't want to take the fairly nice classical guitar and risk its damage. When I opened the box, I was astounded to find a guitar with a very fine black finish, action almost perfect, and actually nearly in tune.It looks great and sounds very good. The sealed tuners are very smooth and have kept the guitar in tune thusfar. The only flaws I could see were a small bit of glue where the fretboard met the top, just at the soundhole, and a very slight overlap of some of the binding glue onto the body, maybe 0.2mm x 1mm, only noticable when looking for it.Soundwise, it sounds very good, especially considering the cost. It sounds especially good with a pick. The treble side of the guitar is bright and clear. The bass side of it is a little thin, and the low 'E' is fairly dull when fingerpicking.I am hoping that changing the stock strings might help it a little. It's passable, just not great. The frets are very good, and smooth. The ends are nicely rounded.I had expected to need to polish the frets, but at this point will leave them as-is.To sum it up, I think this guitar is a complete steal for the price if you are a beginner looking to start, or if you want a spare guitar to keep at the lakehouse or to take camping. It plays very good and looks even better.Like I said, I had intended to take this one camping, but it's almost too nice for that. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Start
When I first took guitar lessons a long time ago, the school used Yamaha C-40's. Although I know own guitars that are more expensive, I have a fond appreciation for the C-40.

It is what it is, and what it is is a very good solution for those who do not want to spend a lot of money but yet venture into the classical guitar. I think it is somewhat futile to acid test this guitar much further than that. Sure, it is rather light in construction, but it's affordability and playability compensate for that.

If you're starting, this is a nice guitar to start with.

1-0 out of 5 stars How to buy classical guitar.
If you read this it means you in the same point where I had been some time ago and I hope my advise will help you as much as the same advise had helped to me.
Essentially it is pointless to discuss some hypothetic "classical guitar" on the web. In the same way as all we, people, have the same hands, legs and heads but have different nature and voices, the guitars, even of the same model of the same manufacturer may differ wildly.
The Classical guitar has to be made of wood. And wood, even of the same age and tree has much of personality and much of "specifics in sound.
If you consider this guitar you are shopping in the lowest end for cheap instrument. Well do not do it! Because I doubt you will learn it ever.
First of all buy the real Spanish guitar. I mean Spanish made in Span not the "Spanish" made in China or anywhere else. Spanish guitars, even the cheapest made toward sound, not toward look. Do not buy guitar with laminated top, it will sound as a toilet sitting and you never will be able to get decent sound out of it. The quality of sound is very important while playing classical guitar and you produce the sound with your hands. It is crucially important to learn to produce right sound by positioning fingers and nails properly: you will never learn it with cheap, not authentic guitar, because it will sound the same whatever you will try! It is like a car that make only left turn. Then you will try to play the real guitar not the bogus one , you will find youself incapable to make it sound as other players do.
Do not try to choose guitar yourself because you can't produce any reasonable judgment until you will learn how to make it sound properly, you must take someone who actually knows how to play classical guitar. You have to geta decent instrument because you MUST fall in love with the sound of one, otherwise it is pointless: you play guitar because it fascinates you esthetically. I doubt that toilet sitting sound out of shipping box that pretends to produce music will fascinate you!
Once again, Spanish guitar improves with an age but not one with the laminated top. If you in budget, do not trash you money with cheap Chinese garbage but save more instead and by the real thing.

Here we are, these are my recommendations for those who really seek to learn to play classical/Spanish guitar:
    1. Do not buy guitar online, buy it in the local Guitar Center for example! Listen to the actual instrument. If you like the sound take it!
    2. Do not buy guitar with laminated top, they are guitar only by appearance.
    3. Buy Spanish guitar from Spanish manufacturer, they start as low as $250, roughly.

    5-0 out of 5 stars This is all you need to know about this guitar . . . . . . .
This is not a guitar that you buy to play led zeplin, Korn or any other american rock music. This is the perfect guitar to get that authentic spanish sound. This is not a guitar to learn on unless you want to learn classical spanish ballads, however I do think it is a good investment for a beginner that only has an electric guitar.

The reason the strings are far appart is for finger plucking and nylon strings need to sit higher than steal strings. When I played this guitar for the first time at my local guitar store, I loved it (and still do!).You can't play rock, but songs like "dust in the wind" (all finger plucking) are great for this guitar.Just like a strat is for rock, a telecaster is for country, a les paul is for lead, hollowbodies are for blues and so on, this guitar is for classical spanish music. If you want a good beginner guitar, get a Ovation knock off or a Dean (Deans are the best for beginners).

I have some very expensive guitars, but I love playing classical music for girls on this one, and they love it.It is my weapon of choice!

Simply put:It's a great guitar for spanish ballads, and soft finger plucking songs, but not much else, because that's not what it was designed for.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not too good either
I've tried the C40 a number of times, and I've always found it a bit lacking. While the price is very reasonable, I can't really bring myself to recommend the guitar. The sound (both basses and trebles) overall is muted, and it feels a little bit too light and cheap. No fit-and-finish issues, but it sometimes feels a bit like a cardboard box with strings.

Granted, for USD99 (Amazon's price at the time of writing), it's not a bad instrument, and if price is your only concern, then it's hard to criticise issues like weak sound and light/cheap construction.Even if you're a beginner, though, you will notice the difference if you're willing to spend a bit more on your guitar. In addition, while the C40 might be worth the 99 dollars it's being sold for here, you can do a lot better around the C40's list price of USD170.

I bought an Almansa 402 for about USD220 a few years back as a secondary "beater" guitar - while it's not spectacular, it has much more presence, and is much more fun to play, than the C40s I have tried. In my experience, the higher-end Yamaha guitars can be great (I love my GC-7), but they tend to skimp a bit at the lower end.

In the end, though, it's up to you - obviously other reviewers are happy with their C40s, and I don't want to be too much of a wet blanket!

1-0 out of 5 stars Everyone seems to get good instrumen I got horrible sample
It seems to me everyone got exceptional instrument except me.I don't understand what's so great about this guitar.Action is just horrible.I mean, look at 12 fret its 10 millimeters.I don't know much about classical but it is not what I would call great playability.Of course, you can play on this guitar, I do.But it's hard.I suppose, one shouldn't expect much from $100 dollars instrument. But I repeat, it's not great. Now about bass strings. They sound bassy, as I suppose, they must. But the thing is their bassines overpower trebles. Trebles sound unproportionally weak. And yes, yes.I did changed strings on a good ones (D-Adario normal tension something) upon getting this guitar from AmazonI should say though that guitar starts to sound much better now than it was when I just got it.But action on this instrument still kills my fingers.I do finger pushups in order to develop muscle on my phalanges, in order, to play on this guitar somehow.Of course, I could ask professional to fix bridge nut, but why would I do it for such cheap guitar. My verdict-unless you want to develop your fingers, in order, to pull out nail with your bare hands, go for it.I will send it back, and buy myself inexpensive Spanish brand. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Just a bit more than a toy.
The main points for me in deciding to buy this little guitar were the cheap price and the affiliation with Dean Guitars. As a long-time guitar player, it can be a lot of fun to play a little guitar in places a full-size guitar won't work, like in the car.I believe an experienced player will get more out of this than a beginner.Although the quality of this guitar is higher than a toy guitar you find at retail toy stores, it still leaves much to be desired in terms of easy playability.Even with a zero fret, the action on this guitar was way too high. The result was that it was hard to play and hard to tune because the intonation was off. These are the least desireable things for a good beginners guitar. What I did was to file down the grooves in the bridge to lower the action.I also put new strings on the guitar--light gauge because the guitar sounds best tuned to A, in otherwise standard tuning. With these changes, it's become a fun guitar to play. For under $30, I wasn't disappointed by the plastic fretboard, painted-on binding or cheap tuners. The finish is nice and the bridge is distinctive. So, I'd say it's a good toy for an experienced guitarist but a bad guitar for a beginner.

2-0 out of 5 stars It looks like a guitar, sounds like a...
It arived safely (packed so well it would probably survive a plane crash) but the strings were very coroded. The tuners are decent (for a very inexpensive guitar) but once tuned all cords sounded off key. Not playable if you can hear. However if deaf it might be quite fun. The plastic fingerboard, painted binding, and plastic bridge are disapointing, but when this guitar makes it to my chop shop, the bridge pins and tuners might be usefull on another gutar. If you buy it for a child, you won't have to wory about teaching them how to tune. It will make little difference.

4-0 out of 5 stars you get what you pay for - change the strings
For $25 you can't expect much, but this is a good guitar considering the price. It was packed very well, but the strings that came with it were awful - they are difficult (if not impossible) to tune correctly, and they were very corroded when I received it.

The solution was very simple - I bought a new set of strings for a regular guitar. Instead of tuning it like a standard guitar, tune it a fourth or a major third above standard tuning. This is perfect for the size of the guitar, and it sounds great. Remember to use very low gauge strings.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the PriceYou Can't Beat This Guitar
I bought this Dean JTJ for a few reasons: price, size (my hands are small), and the sound. The Dean JTJ gives me a lot of pleasure to play and I'm always glad I bought it. It's not a deluxe Gibson, Martin, or Taylor guitar, so you may not feel that the JTJ is on par with those pricey, well-regarded instruments, but for me, an amateur looking for a practice guitar that wouldn't break my budget, or be so bad that it would fall apart quickly, I can't falt the JTJ.Now, I realize that there is no truss rod, but I've never had any tuning problems, and I play the JTJ nearly every day.And you know what, if the JTJ breaks, I'll get another one, but I think that the quality of this Dean guitar is better than that.In fact, I bought it in the hopes of passing it on to my daughter when she gets ready to learn guitar.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings
We all know Dean Makes great guitars, yet this one, does NOT have a trust rod.If the neck is bent or over time moves from the pressure of the strings the guitar is garbage. This guitar will NOT last you very long, certainly not a novice. You are better off paying extra (like 70-100) to buy a guitar with a trust rod. This will enable you to bring the guitar to a repair man. He can fix the neck of the guitar so it is playable.Guitars without trust rods are harder to tune and do not stay in tune.Dean makes a great guitar, but you get what you pay for.Hope this helped. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Nice looking guitar
I love the guitar and espaclly the electric. I own 2 guitars myself but I am not a musican nor i do know how to play them but I have been since the dayof my brithday which falls April 1st. I go every Friday to a guy thats like only 10 mins away from me. They are only half hour lessions though which I think stinks. Anyhow one of the guitars I own is an electric. Its a Lion and its very nice. I got a 10 watt amp separte with it because it does bring one but its for the waist and after a while it can get on conforable. Anyhow. This electric guitar looks just wicked. Just out of this world. And if I keep up the good work and I do learn how to play perfessionaly I want to get one of these also. I thought for the most part what would keep me back fro learning guitar is learning music. But I am doing well so far and this friday. April 15th we are going to the second string. All I have to do is have faith and practice at home which I do. Bottom line is if I learn it I want to add to my collection of guitars a kramer Fouca VT-111S guiatr.I have not tried it so I am only going to give it 3 stars for now. Thank You.

5-0 out of 5 stars a steal at this price
this package is great for beginners and any problem with strings falling off and the guitar not tuning with an auto tuner sounds more like a novice who doesnt know how to tune by ear or properly string his guitar and complaining about scratches on a 79 dollar guitar says it all besides idiot you can remove the plastic covering the pickguard so thats not scratches and most guitars dont even ship with strings heres the real deal u get a nice strat style guitar just as nice as the fender squier strats they make for 199 and u get a small amp and chord for 149 overall its a good deal the guitar alones worth 149 and u can always get a pedal to make the amp sound better but if you play heavy rock and metal you should just buy the kramer focus fatboy its $99 dollars its the same guitar with a humbucker instead of a single coil pickup and it plays and sounds great and you can get a refurbished yamaha 10 watt amp for $3999 its really loud for 10 watts and sounds good youll have a nice little setup for metal and rock and youll spend the same amount

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the $30 you'll have to spend to send it back
After having read some reviews on other sites, I figured that it can't be such a bad guitar. I got it about a week later (Augest 28), and wow, was I proven wrong... The package is cursed. I started by trying out the guitar with the amp. It came horrible out of tune, and the amp emited horrid noices that cannot be considered music. I sat down, and figured that was only becouse the guitar was so out of tune. I used the tuner with the package, and the tuner does not tune. I could not get any string in tune in manual mode, and the auto made can't even tell the strings apart. After tuning it right (according to the tuner) I tried to play: two light strums, there go strings: two snaps immidiatly. I got angered, and began to inspect the guitar for everything else that might be wrong with it. Upon close inspection, I found scratches on the front, a cutout on the back of the guitar (having been cut out with a saw: I swear there were saw marks), and the paint comes of onto your finger from the frets like it was dust. By the end of my inspection, i got sick of even holding the guitar. It was too small for me (i would have perfered someting a bit bigger), and the included strap is very uncomfortable and rough. I put it back in the box and sent it back as soon as I got the RMA (thankfully, the customer servive was good).

5-0 out of 5 stars GOOD PACK
This gutair starter kit is sick. The guitar is unbelivebly nice, it comes w/ the auto tuner (which is handy), and nice picks. The amp is sorta crappy, but what do you expect for only $135.00! I just use my freinds amp. this kit rules :) :) :) :) :) :)~~~ :) :) :):) :) :) ... Read more

This guitar is suited for people with little hands.I have a hard time with my fingers because they are small, and this guitar works great. The sound isn't bad, but I would get new strings, and the guitar is sturdy and will work well for the new player. The color is nice too, it adds a little something to just a basic guitar. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars: Bang for the Buck
I gave this guitar 5 stars not because it's the best guitar out there, but the best guitar for the money. I tried out a lot of guitars before settling on this. I can tell you you will not be disappointed with the sound, especially if you're just starting out, like I am. I spent $100 on this guitar and just love the sound, feel & look of it. Very good construction. The only thing it needs is a set of new strings. NEW STRINGS MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. I bought the EXP strings (custom light) and not only did the action improve but the sound as well. The guitar now stays in tune for MUCH longer. Overall, great investment.

5-0 out of 5 stars good stuff my freinds
Look i bought this guitar thinking i was just going to get a cheap $99 guitar, the thing sounds awesome, and it plays like a champ. Good action, nice tone, all of the frets are clean there isn't any ring of the strings or anything. I'm telling you for 99 bucks your getting a really good deal. Dont be the guy that passes this up! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is not a toy.
I have an Almansa 435 Seniorita, which is a very lovely little classical guitar, so I have some idea what a decent classical guitar should sound like. I got this little one for my son, who is 5, and didnt want to spend much because you know how children can be when it comes to lessons and instruments. I was very surprised at the quality of the sound. It is still in it's breaking in period, so the strings are still stretching, but it sounds really, really, nice. I even played on it myself (you know, just to get it warmed up for my son!) and it truly is not bad. Doesnt sound "tinny" or "toyish". Sounds like a classical guitar. Now I bought a much more expensive one a few years ago for my daughter, who has since given up the guitar, and that was handmade in mexico, solid wood, 3/4 size, and didn't sound nearly as good as this little thing. For this price, you get a solid spruce top, the finish is nice, kind of matted, the tuners are pretty good, and so far the strings aren't too bad. The base strings look like they could be silver-plated. Unfortunately you dont get any product information in the box so who knows where the strings came from and what kind they are (the guitar is romanian), but the main thing is that the guitar sounds so nice that a child will be encouraged to continue, the teacher will be pleased, and the parents will not have to suffer from more than the usual beginning-any-instrument "noises", and perhaps a lot less because it has such a pleasant sound. Now of course it isnt comparable to the almansa or to finer guitars, but for a young child who is serious about wanting to study classical guitar, this is a very fine instrument at an EXCELLENT price. This model is sold on other sites for about 20 dollars more, but why pay that?! If you are looking for a small guitar for your young child, this one is a very good bet. A real, very decent sounding, classical guitar for the price of a toy one! ... Read more

Well I just go this bass guitar after wanting one for a long time now and it is very nice. Looks very good, it had fast shipping, I think I received it in about 4 days. The amp sounds very good and it is highly controllable. I only found one problem with it, maybe it is just how I play, but when moving up and down the guitar the string will sometime barely touch the metal parts and it will make a loud metal vibrating noise, so you have to be accurate and use morepressure so it doesn't do that. Andthe shoulder strap is a bit of not good. But other than those few I found it very nice and hopefully I shall become better at this. ... Read more

    3-0 out of 5 stars OK for a two-year-old
My wife got this for our two-year-old son at the same time as she got me a beautiful Takamine acoustic, also from Amazon - she wisely and correctly thought that it would stave off "MY guitar" rages from him if I was playing and he didn't have one to use. The guitar is just the right size for him and he totally loves to strum it and sing. If, however, you're looking for something you can actually play, look elsewhere - it fails to stay in tune even for a few seconds (even though I tightened the heads) and the tuning of the frets is waaaay off. So you can't or don't care to play chords, but if your kid's looking for a nice looking guitar which is fun to strum and which will also hopefully give them a chance to learn to respect and look after an instrument, this is perfect. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT STARTER PACKAGE FOR THE MONEY
Just received my Yamaha bass pack in good order. I really knew nothing about this particular package - all I knew is that all of the other packages out in the market (except for the pricier Ibanez unit)were junk. This package offered alot of value for the money. I was counting on Yamaha's reputation for quality ,and - for the most part, it doesn't disappoint. The guitar looks & feels good, lightweight but not junky. It plays super easily (although I had to adjust the action a bit), and it sounds nice - a very decent rock bass that has an edgy sound.
The little practice amp is even better than I imagined - solid, quality feel. Of course, you'll never be able to play a gig with the amp (unless it's with acoustic guitars) but what do you expect? The little electronic tuner works great, the cable is junky , and the strap is OK. This package even includes an extra set of strings,a string winder and a Hal Leonard instructional booklet. These are extras the other packages don't inlcude.
For the money, the next best package next to the Ibanez set. ... Read more
