GREAT Wah
The ability to quickly change the range and sensitivity has made it easy to dial in the exact sound you want to hear. It's built like a tank and has worked flawlessly in the time I've had it. Since I normally power it with a wall wart, I don't have much of an opinion about battery life.

I love all the different sounds I can make with my Jellifish. Without having to plug in an effects pedal I can make my 6 string ring like a 12.
Still learning new sounds and writing new songs with the jellifish...it is endless fun and opens up new possibilities for little money.

The Jellifish is the first radically new thing I've seen for guitar since the Ebow. I love innovative musical tools, and the Jellifish delivers. I am a guitar instructor and teach over 50 students a week from beginner to very advanced. I have had all of my students purchase the Jellifish because in order to get the Chorus! Pluck! and Bow! sounds you must master 3 picking styles that every guitarist should know how to use regardless. Specifically, a fluid, sweep picking technique will produce a lush chorusing effect that is a cross somewhere between a 12-string and a chorus pedal. Alternate picking, when done properly from the wrist, will produce the Pluck! effect, which somewhat sounds like a hammered dulcimer. And circular picking -- done from the thumb and forefinger -- will obtain a bowed effect that is very nice on slower, scalar patterns, but can also be used on arpeggios. 100 years from now, the Jellifish won't be novel, because every guitarist will use this the same as they do capos and slides. Minimal proficiency with this device is de rigueur for any serious student of the instrument.

Most absolutely awful guitar product ever
You know how when a regular pick hits your strings, you can hear the sound of it hitting the string, then after it releases and the string reverberates you hear a note?Well imagine hearing 15 picks hit the string before the string produces music.And the 15 picks are made of coiled wire.

What more could you ask for?
This is an amazing amp.

I am a mere hobbyist in guitar playing, but I showed this amp to a friend who works at a music store and is an accomplished player/teacher. When we finished going over all the features (which I will cover in a moment) he thought that I must have paid over $100 for it. When I told him that I had paid just over half that he was shocked. He says he is planing on buying one himself as his travel/practice amp.

This amp really has it all. Very clean, crisp sound when reverb is off. A warm fuzzy sound through reverb. This amp allows you to play with a three band equalizer (something no amp should really be without, but some in this price range are), dual channels (clean and lead), reverb is on a dial so you can set exactly how much or little you want, and it seems to be very well made.

This amp is plenty loud enough for any practice, including most jam sessions. I'd upgrade to something larger for a gig, but if you are playing solo in a very small place, this could even handle that. Some reviews that I read reported volume problems, it was too quiet or at lower volumes it was buzzy. I told my music teacher friend about this and he said to return for an exchange any amps with these problems, they are most likely due to a poor soldering job on a couple wires.

An excellent all-in-one effects package
Digitech's RP-50 is a reasonably priced multi-effects unit tiny enough to take up very little space on a shelf or in a gig bag. It will provide more than enough bang for the buck for most guitar hobbyists. It contains multiple flanging, delay, chorus, autowah, and distortion effects. These go beyond the "bread and butter" stock sounds that many Korg and Zoom boxes provide, giving us truly useful and musical sounds. I'm particularly impressed with the various amplifier simulations; there are some beautiful clean Fender and Voxlike sounds hidden in here. There's also a gorgeous acoustic simulation that will strongly evoke a piezo pickup if you play without distortion. I'm also happy that the presets aren't oversaturated nonsense but actually highlight the varied sonic qualities of this multieffects package. Furthermore, the RP-50 can be used as both a headphone amplifier (perfect for when you don't want to wake up the house) and a direct input for recording. I've used the RP-50 for a lot of home recording since 2003, and the sound quality is very, very impressive even when plugged directly into my computer. In fact, I prefer the RP-50 for that use instead of using it to replace a pedal board. There's also an excellent tuner that's easier to use than some other pedal-based tuners I've tried.

Is this as good as more expensive models? Customization is, unfortunately, limited. Since you can't totally control all the parameters of each effect, exact synchronization of delays (for example) is impossible. The onboard EQ is limited to "Lows," "Mids," and "Highs" making it almost impossible to dial in nontraditional tones. There's a great-sounding drum machine included which (you guessed it) can't be reprogrammed. You can select a different drum pattern and choose a different speed, but that's it. You can't create your own patterns, and the drum speed isn't given to you in beats per minute (BPM). The selection pedals are very small and I would worry about stomping on them too hard on stage.

I've used the RP-50 since May 2003 and have never once had a problem with it. It's a valuable practice tool, sounds great, and is a terrific value. I'd buy it again if I had the chance!

Good price for what it does.
This processor is well-priced and very functional for what it does. While it doesn't have the bells and whistles of the more expensive models, this one is very good for its price.

why buy a single pedal anymore? this thing has 11 award winning amp models tons of effects a tuner a built in drum machine everything u need in 1! its 24 bit so the sound quality is just as good as digitechs more expensive processors and the presets are allready setup for you i was amazed how heavy loud and tube like it made my little 50 watt combo amp this thing has tons of amp models from mesa boogie to marshall and they sound very close to the real thing you can jump from zepplin to old metallica to country on this thing and it will sound near exact as u play along it even has a pickup simulator so you can get humbucker crunch from a single coil pickup it even models speaker cabinets going back to the 60s i play in a metal bnd but i also enjoy blues classical country this pedal has every amp and every effect you ever need to play any style of music its onboard drum machine has 30 patterns that sound pretty good and u can change the tempo and sound on them i dont see why anybody would ever buy a single pedal again when u can get this nice a complete effects processor for this cheap bravo digitech

Beginning guitarists: This is a MUST buy!!!
I am a guitar instructor in the LA area. I teach over 50 students a week. I insist that the parents of my beginning students purchase the RP50. It is not only very affordable, but it has several features that will ensure your son or daughter (or, if you're an adult beginning guitar student, then you too) will learn at an accellerated pace:

* Chromatic tuner -- allows not only standard EADGBE tuning, but also every open tuning (open tunings are an essential part of my lesson plan for beginning students as this allows you/them to focus on the right/picking hand)

* 30-pattern drum machine -- all the benefits of a metronome, but allows the student to learn how to synch-up with the groove...also makes practicing more fun -- which means you'll do it -- which means you'll improve faster.

* Perfectly decent digital models. The models encompass pickups, pre-amp, power amp and speakers, so they're more than realistic enough for the beginner. There is honestly no reason that a professional guitarist couldn't record an entire CD with nothing more than the models contained in this pedal (might make for an interesting exercise / endorsement!) The tones modeled range from clean to every shade of distortion and allow the student to obtain desirable results when practicing cover tunes.

* Portable. The RP50 is lightweight and can be run off of battery or AC power. Therefore, it can go with you on spring/summer/winter vacation and, with a set of headphones, you'll be able to keep-up your studies. Don't forget those scalar sequences to build the chops and left/right hand synchronization.

I've had a few students and parents asking why I'm not recommending the RP80A over the RP50 since there is only a $20 difference and the 80 comes with a pedal, power supply and more presets, patterns and user-definable patches.

My reason is pretty simple: I recommend the RP50 to *all* of my beginning students. I have found that the expression pedal becomes a distraction from serious practice. Students, especially younger students, become caught-up in goofing with the pedal, pretending to be Hendrix, etc. Not that there's anything wrong with having fun...that's why we're all here and playing the guitar!!! It's just that I think my students will have more fun much sooner if they get the basics down and my reason for recommending the RP50 is because I think it helps students get the basics down faster than they would with just a beginner amp. (See my explanation of the benefits in my RP50 review.)

This is not to say that the 80 is a bad product. I am pleased DigiTech is including the power supply and wish they would with the 50! If you're already an intermediate level player or above, then by all means, this may be the product for you versus the 50, although I agree with the 2 reviews above in their assessment of the pedal. However, at $79 it's not going to be a Morley. I think DigiTech's packed quite a lot into this for the price and we can't be too critical of the pedal's limitations. Maybe they'll read these reviews and fix that on v2.0!

more bang for your buck
this little baby is unbeatable for its versatility in its price bracket.the range of tones and effects is great.i have found a number of great tones and effects combinations that i used routinely.my only gripe is the expression pedal.it's sufficient for most things, but it's useless for any kind of controlled wah.that's an instant star demotion.

Well you couldn't get more pedal for your dollar, that's for sure. This pedal gives a crisp clean sound that makes even the cheapest amp sound fantastic. I only have two qualms- 1. The expression pedal is not ideal (not super-controllable) and 2. The drum machinekind of blows (most beats are absolutely useless) BUT, I love the sounds this thing makes.
