5-0 out of 5 stars Bang for your Buck
I wanted to learn basic keyboard/piano-type keyboard. So for a long time I was looking for a good musical keyboard. When I saw this DJXII under 100 bucks I ordered it immediately.

This has got hundreds of bells and whistles with the keyboard I was looking for. I like it and I am learning keyboard right now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun
I have had one of these beat boxes for over a year and enjoy it.It's fairly easy to use and fun to perform on.It's not a "serious" instrument but it has capabilities that only a few years ago were costing much much more. The keyboard function is fairly limited and has no performance nuance like touch sensitivity, but it works in a pinch. It also has automated mixing and processing capabilities that took a lot of effort and time to execute a few years ago.It definitely allows non musicians (or non-keyboardists) to jam and create club music. Some of the grooves are very good, but most are pop and sure to sound dorky within a few years - but then again - retro gear will have its own appeal several years hence.Likewise, the effects are what are currently "in" in dance production.I like the ease with which effects can be sync-ed to the beat.

As to use by pros - it might be a good addition to a DJ to spice up a mix.I am a guitarist, and I have used this unit as a drum machine with a small combo and it sounds fine through a PA.It's a fun jam box, and the price is right.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Much Fun
Look, I'm an accomplished musician and while this thing is fun, it's not something i'd use in the studio. But i sure as heck would use while DJing to fill in between songs. If you are shopping for a keyboard to learn how to play honkey dorey songs, dont get this one.If you are seriously into Hip-hop, techno, and house, this is one cool tool to use!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for MIDI users
The DJX-1 (PSRD1-DJX) was a great keyboard. I suggest you look for one of those on ebay or something. In many ways the DJX-2 is a stripped down version of the original. The sounds are fine and you can record your own beats and samples etc, but if you want to use it in a MIDI setup, forget it. Its "MIDI out" capability is only for saving your samples to a computer --- you cannot use the DJX-2 to output note information to an external sequencer (or computer or other keyboard...). Also, the DJX-2 does not include the industry standard set of 128 general MIDI (GM) voices. And who wants to look at alternating gray and white octaves???

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
The Yamaha DJXIIAD Dance And Techno Keyboard was a great buy. I looked at otherkeyboards but this one offered DJ effects such as hip hop and dance beats, which I was looking for. Great product. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent mid-range keyboard
This CTK keyboard by Casio is easily the best in its price range. It features, among other things, modifiable sounds (letting you tweak with parameters such as attack, release, pitch, etc), 61 full size keys, and a 6-track onbaord digital recorder. It also is MIDI compatible, so it's easy to operate alongside your PC.

Let's discuss the sounds: there are over 200 tones, among the best being the piano, strings, and several of the synthesizer waveforms. It also has 32 slots for user-programmed tones, which you can use to store your edited sounds.

I don't particulary care for most of the drum patterns, but there are still a few good ones, which come complete with fill, intro and outs. This keyboard also has a diskdrive for easy storage of your performances.

There are drum pads also, which can be cumbersome at first, but are still fun to learn and use.

Overall, it's a good keyboard for those who want more than the basics, but would rather not blow $1000 on a Roland or Korg. Like I said, best value for the money- and with a very nice piano section. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The "Recylicing" Keyboard
This is the BEST KEYBOARD IN THE WORLD!!!!! It is #1. If you want a keyboard. Get this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Learning keyboard!
I wish this had been my first keyboard. My first one had only 4 octaves and it never reached most of the bass clef notes. Therefore, I never learned the base clef. But with this machine, it has plenty of room plus a great learning tool through Yamaha's Education Suite.I love it!The sound is also fantastic and realistic. My only negative comment would be that I must turn up the volume rather high in order to hear the Grand Piano.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to learn and have fun
I bought this Yamaha with a hope of renewing and refreshing my piano skills.Having taken lessons as a child, I never quite was able to put the two hands together. The education suite is a fun way to pick up my skills. My husband, who is a true beginner, needs a little more "basic" practice before he's ready for the lessons, though. The piano itself has great sound, and almost more options than I know what to do with (although it's been fun to play around with it).A friend of mine who is a professional musician also said it was a good piano for the price, and he thought he might recommend it as a great portable option to someone else.

5-0 out of 5 stars A best Product
I have been using Yamaha for many years and the product is good especially for third world countries like Tanzania my mother land
everyone likes the yamaha tones it sound like wind in paradise. Yes this is what needed by peoples.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yamaha PSRGX76 - Great!
The Yamaha PSRGX76 was the first portable keyboard I've ever purchased. I was reluctant at first because I wanted an instrument with a weighted action, but I needed portability and a low price - the two do not necessarily go together.

After much research and shopping I decided upon the Yamaha PSRGX76 for two reasons: 1) very good sounds, and 2) 76 keys. It was purchased online , and came with free accessories. I couldn't be happier.

Even though it is rather large, it still is easy to carry around. We've taken it to church several times, and have traveled with it to several missions.

I am very pleased and I would definitely purchase another Yamaha product! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Yamaha's PSR340AD is jam-packed with features, like a built-in sequencer, a disk drive on which original songs can be saved, 100 accompaniments (on an included floppy disk), and more than 200 voices. The voice bank on the PSR340AD contains 100 panel voices, 10 drum kits, and 128 General MIDI voices. The inclusion of the General MIDI voices means that the PSR340AD willcorrectly play General MIDI files (a standard of most of the MIDI files in educational software and of those available on the Internet). Add an accompaniment to the voice that you are already playing and suddenly you arecontrolling a whole music ensemble. The keyboard also has a dual mode, in which two voices can be combined, and a split mode, in which one voice can be assigned to the upper half of the keyboard and another voice to the lower half.

You can set some effects for the voices such as eight types of reverb, four types of chorus, and 26 types of harmony. The PSR340AD can, of course, be connected to a computer via MIDI cables (sold separately), which canrecord musical performances from the keyboard and then play them back using the synthesizer's instrument voices. The sequencer allows you to record an original song.It works very much like a multi-track cassette recorder; you can first record one instrument, say a bass, then you can add another instrument like a guitar while listening to your first track. If the guitar track is not quite right, then you can record it again without changing the bass part. This sequencer allows you to record music in real time or record it in step time, the virtual equivalent of writing parts down on paper.

The best feature of the PSR340AD is the built-in floppy drive. The drive accepts standard 3.5-inch computer floppy disks.Disks can contain MIDI files downloaded from the Internet or purchased from Yamaha, Yamaha createdaccompaniments, and user composed songs.

A couple of tools on the PSR340AD will help you play chords on your own. If you can play the root of the chord, the "Smart" tool will play the rest. The "EZ Chord" tool allows you to program a series of chords-then you just have to play one key to trigger each of the chords. If you decide that you are ready to learn how chords are constructed, you can use the "Dictionary" tool, which willmap out the parts of the chord on the staff display.

On the whole we liked the PSR340AD, but the keys are a bit flimsy-you definitely do not want to play them too hard. Two hundred and thirty-eight voices seem like a lot, but if you are a serious MIDI musician, you will be yearningfor more. For the price though, the PSR340AD is a fantastic buy.Items such as built-in speakers, a headphone jack, and a jack for a foot sustain pedal are also included. The keyboard can be powered either by an AC adapter orbatteries, and it can also be connected to a stereo or amplifier. With a weight of just a little over 17 pounds, the PSR340AD is easily portable. --Chris Fresolone Pros:

  • Built-in sequencer
  • Built-in floppy drive
  • General MIDI compatible
  • Touch sensitive keys
  • Useful chord tools
  • Many features included for the price
Cons:
  • Only 238 voices

Amazon.com Review

The PSR-225GMMS has everything a musician new to keyboards would need to get started creating, composing, and/or performing music, without the expense of a professional synthesizer. It's a fantastic keyboard at a phenomenal price.

The PSR-225GMMS boasts a total of 238 voices. The voices are simple to access: press the Voice button, then type in the appropriate voice's number (all of the voices with their numbers are listed in the accompanying manual). For an inexpensive instrument, the quality of these voices is well above average. The PSR-225GMMS is a General MIDI-compatible keyboard, which means 128 of the voices are grouped in a standardized way: if you connect the keyboard to a computer--via the MIDI ports using MIDI cables (sold separately)--the PSR-225GMMS will correctly play General MIDI files (a standard of most MIDI files in educational software and of those available on the Internet).

If you enjoy playing along with built-in drum patterns and bass lines, then you will want to press the Style button. The PSR-225GMMS contains 100 different auto accompaniments from a variety of musical genres. The keyboard can harmonize chords for you, and it can select voices that match well the style you have chosen. You can easily change the tempo or move between an intro, ending, or two preset sections of a song.

There is also a Song function on the PSR-225GMMS, which allows you to play back songs or record your own songs. This is one area where the PSR-225GMMS does not shine. The user can store only a maximum of three songs. Each song can have up to six tracks, but the interface for recording these tracks is cumbersome and counterintuitive.

A user more serious about creating their own songs will probably opt for connecting the keyboard to a computer and using a software-based sequencer. The novice songwriter will most likely become frustrated rather quickly with the PSR-225GMMS's built-in sequencer because of its complexity and limitations.

There are a number of other useful and extremely easy-to-use functions on the PSR-225GMMS, including a metronome, dual- and split-keyboard modes, and sound enhancers such as reverb and chorus. The five-octave, 61-note keyboard and good-quality built-in speakers make the PSR-225GMMS very fun to play.

Overall, the PSR-225GMMS is a quality keyboard for new keyboardists and composers. --Chris Fresolone

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Beginner's Keyboard
As the other reviewers have said, this is a great keyboard for the beginner or the person who just wants to play around. If you are looking for a professional keyboard, this is not for you.

I recently decided to learn piano and bought this keyboard as a good starter keyboard (instead of paying thousands of dollars for a real piano). I was pleasantly surprised. The sound quality is excellent. The speakers won't blast you out but they are strong enough. Also, the instrument sounds are very realistic for an electronic keyboard. The grand piano sound sounds more like a piano than the old upright I practice on at a friend's house.

The number and variety of the sounds, beats, and songs is good. The play-along feature is great! You choose a style (with drums and bass). You can then intro into the song. There are always two different tempos to switch between with short breaks to transition from one tempo to another. So at the push of a button, you have a backing band for whatever you want to play. This was nice as I am practicing basic jazz improvisation and it is good to have a backing beat to work with.

The keys and displays are set up intuitively and after about 15-30 minutes of playing around, you'll know where everything is and what you need to do.

The keys are well spaced and have a touch sensitivity that works well.

I have not tried the more advanced features on the keyboard, but the manual appears to be well written and helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing for Beginners
Was awesome, on Thursday i receive an e-mail saying that they shipped my daughters keyboard... on Saturday (same week) at 10:30 the Fedex car was at the door. My daughter wasnt at home and i decide to make a run to buy some batteries before she comes back, (i choose without AC Power because budget was tied), but on my way i saw a house having garage sell, then i stop to see if they have some eletronics or speakers, BUT, the best, i saw that PA3C adaptor from Yamaha that fits perfect for the keyboard... 1.50 USD, and i run back home to try...PERFECT!
We are having so much fun...as the others say, this is a home keyboard, don't expect something to explode your ears. I like in the way it is.
Awesome first experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good deal for the price
Both my wife and I were looking for an entry level keyboard. After spending some time on the Internet and stores, we finally nailed down our choice to this one for its excellent price and features. There was a little goof up with the One Click method, and Amazon shipped it over priority mail instead of the free shipping. But when we sent them an e-mail they refunded the shipping cost.

The product so far has performed up to our expectation. Although we are yet to experiment on the advanced features like downloading songs, the basic functionality works just fine. There are plenty of preloaded rythms to select for the song you would like to play. Also there are practice songs (didn't help much to us as we play Indian music). The only poor thing about this model I guess is the speaker. It should have been more powerful perhaps. And also note that it doesn't come with the AC adapter. So better you order that one too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Keyboard!!! AWESOME price!!!!A+
After i did alot of searching and researching of different keyboards in this price range, i found that amazons price and that the psr-290 was a perfect match! This keyboard is an awesome piece of hardware for the money.
I have bought mine having never played a piano or keyboard, so i really didn't know what to expect. After playing with mine for a week now, i must say that this baby is LOADED with tons of features. Best buy was offering this same keyboard for 199.00, so amazons price at 159.00 was totally awesome especially considering i used the FREE SHIPPING method.I ordered mine on a late thursday night and it was on my door step on monday morning!!!THAT WAS AWESOME INDEED!!!:)

As far as the keyboard goes, you simply can't beat the price and performance! My only beef was that amazon shipped it in the box that its packed in. I'm sure its because it so big, but i could tell that the box had been put through its paces, but nothing was damaged in the end. So all in all, i am VERY pleased with this keyboard!!!
If you are wanting this for a beginners keyboard, this baby will NOT leave you disappointed!GO FOR IT!!! hehehe ... Read more
