5-0 out of 5 stars keyboard fun
I started keyboard lessons this past summer and this specific keyboard really makes beginners sound great! I am ordering a duplicate for my mother for her upcoming 80th birthday.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great keyboard
Along with the PSR280 I have this one for home i love this one because it has a 3.5 floppy disk drive and because of the music database. I enjoy playing frank sinatra songs and many others. I sit for hours playing this keyboard and listen to the songs i sent to disk through the computer. I take the psr 350data disk to my aunt's or uncle's house and impress them. The great thing is that you don't have to bring the whole keyboard to someones house, only the disk. I also love all of the expanded voices, great accompanent styles and the sound. This keyboard is worth its price

5-0 out of 5 stars Great keyboard for beginners
I had been teaching myself to play the keyboard for about 3 years, and this keyboard really helped a lot. The 3 Step lessons are great and the touch-sensitivity has great projection. I would recommend this to everyone who wishes to learn. I wish it had at least one more octave on both ends, though. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars WARNING about the picure
The picture displayed with the CASIO CTK 558 appears to be the more expensive WK1600.The CTKs are fine entry level keyboars with 66 keys. The WKs are a little more expensive and have a wider (72+ key) keyboard.Don't get fooled by the picture.

4-0 out of 5 stars CTK-558 - great keyboard!
This is a wonderful keyboard with a great sound and ease-of-use. However, if I had to purchase it today, I'd go for either CTK-551 or Casio LK-30 learning system. I think the pitch bend wheel and touch response which are extras on CTK-558 may not be that important to beginners. However, the follow-me lightsystem in LK-30 might be worth it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Decent sound, terrible support, useless for many purposes
I am a bassist, guitarist, and vocalist working on my own project.

I did not have the money to throw into a Korg, Kurzweil, Roland, or Yamaha board. All I needed a keyboard/synth for was drum sounds and some keyboard/synth fill in. At first, this seemed like the model for me..

The touch sensitivity is nice.. most of the sounds are pretty decent, if not you can make all sorts of adjustments to just about anything for any tone... except the 'raindrops' tone, a common favorite on most keyboards/synths.. the raindrops tone for the Casio is a cheesy video game sound effect.

Otherwise, the sound and sound possibilities were surprisingly decent.

That is where the good review ends. 6 songs is not a lot of storage if you actually plan to compose with this thing.. no floppy. However you can save songs to your comp, and load songs from your comp to the keyboard.. if you have a good laptop and want to take it everywhere the keyboard goes, then this is not as much of a concern.

Don't buy it if you plan to use it with Cakewalk.. Casio does not provide the .ins (instrument definitions) file for it, and the manual is useless for creating your own. It works terribly with Cakewalk (and I would imagine other MIDI devices) for this reason.

If you just want to play, and never record anything, then this is the instrument for you, otherwise, go for something a bit more expensive. Do not go Casio though.. At present there are little to no .ins files for Casio boards anywhere on the web.

Also, it is certainly not an instrument to take on the road, partly for the limited storage, partly for its innability to interact with other MIDI devices to the extent it could and should be able to, and partly because it is very lightweight and flimsy, don't sneeze in its direction..

.. Look at the price, ask yourself if you can wait a while longer and buy something that is even just a little bit more expensive.. such as a Yamaha for a hundred or two more.

If you think it will help you on your home project... not unless you want to record and flatten to analog from track to track, or program everything into the keyboard and record analog.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reliable as my old model
I was shopping and based on the reliability of my Casio CTK-511 I selected this model. This is a fun reasonable priced Keyboard with great sound and good features. Consider this one!!!

151. Yamaha P80 88-Key Graded Hammer Effect Digital Piano

Amazon.com Product Description

Whether you're practicing at home, playing with the band, or doing a live solo performance, the Yamaha P80 88-Key Graded Hammer Effect Digital Piano offers the features you need. The P80 boasts superb acoustic and electric piano voices, along with a number of other essential instruments such as organs, bass, and even strings. Thanks to the "graded hammer effects" on this keyboard, the action is as close to that real thing as you can get. Leave it to Yamaha, a world leader in acoustic pianos, to develop a keyboard with action that's virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. Just as on a traditional acoustic piano, the keys of the lower notes have a heavier touch, while the higher ones are more responsive to lighter playing. The keyboard's sensitivity can even be adjusted to match your playing style.

The P80 delivers heavyweight performance in a slim and lightweight design. Weighing in at a mere 37 pounds, this digital piano is ideal for gigging musicians or those with space constraints in their home. Although the P80 might be slim in size, it is not slim on features. The P80 is loaded with a 64-note polyphony and a substantial inventory of voices including classical, jazz, rock, strings and more. The P80's onboard sequencer lets you record an entire performance and play it back at the touch of a button. After you're satisfied with your first track, you can go back and record a solo or backup part using the two-track sequencer.

The P80 also features MIDI in/out connections, and a "to host" port, which allows for single-cable connections with computers and other supporting devices. These advanced interfacing capabilities make the P80 a great choice for use as both a MIDI controller/sound source and a live-performance instrument.

Other features include dual headphone outputs, allowing for easy instructional and collaborative use; a sustain pedal; a detachable music stand; and a built-in metronome. Conveniently positioned front panel controls are also provided for immediate access to tuning, transposition and brilliance settings.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter's "MUST-HAVE" keyboard!
My daughter tried this keyboard out at the store. It has been on her "MUST-HAVE" list since that day. When I was young I had a Baby-Grand piano vs this Casio LK50. I think it is great to have a lighted-teacher keyboard instead of going for hourly lessons weekly. I explored the internet doing homework, this is a great buy. I know she will have many enjoyable hours learning to play. A "MUST-HAVE" for me to get this keyboard for her!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for beginners...
Yeap, that's all I could say.. it's great for all beginners who never lay their hands on the keyboard, because it has some features that some other don't have, which is songbook controller, that could let you play, PAUSE, forward, backward, while other only can do play and stop.. which is uneffective to learning from the image of keyboard button on the lcd.It is really helpful.. that's why I cancel to buy LK-43 and buy this instead(even though they have the lighting keys-I think it's not really helping, though..)

5-0 out of 5 stars The "Recylicing" Keyboard
This is the BEST KEYBOARD IN THE WORLD!!!!! It is #1. If you want a keyboard. Get this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Learning keyboard!
I wish this had been my first keyboard. My first one had only 4 octaves and it never reached most of the bass clef notes. Therefore, I never learned the base clef. But with this machine, it has plenty of room plus a great learning tool through Yamaha's Education Suite.I love it!The sound is also fantastic and realistic. My only negative comment would be that I must turn up the volume rather high in order to hear the Grand Piano.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to learn and have fun
I bought this Yamaha with a hope of renewing and refreshing my piano skills.Having taken lessons as a child, I never quite was able to put the two hands together. The education suite is a fun way to pick up my skills. My husband, who is a true beginner, needs a little more "basic" practice before he's ready for the lessons, though. The piano itself has great sound, and almost more options than I know what to do with (although it's been fun to play around with it).A friend of mine who is a professional musician also said it was a good piano for the price, and he thought he might recommend it as a great portable option to someone else.

5-0 out of 5 stars A best Product
I have been using Yamaha for many years and the product is good especially for third world countries like Tanzania my mother land
everyone likes the yamaha tones it sound like wind in paradise. Yes this is what needed by peoples.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yamaha PSRGX76 - Great!
The Yamaha PSRGX76 was the first portable keyboard I've ever purchased. I was reluctant at first because I wanted an instrument with a weighted action, but I needed portability and a low price - the two do not necessarily go together.

After much research and shopping I decided upon the Yamaha PSRGX76 for two reasons: 1) very good sounds, and 2) 76 keys. It was purchased online , and came with free accessories. I couldn't be happier.

Even though it is rather large, it still is easy to carry around. We've taken it to church several times, and have traveled with it to several missions.

I am very pleased and I would definitely purchase another Yamaha product! ... Read more

I have owned this keyboard for about six months, and although I'm extremely happy with it, there are a few drawbacks that anyone who is considering this keyboard should know about. So I'll try to make good as list as possible.

THE GOOD:
*realistic sounds (#19 is better than a real drawbar organ!)
*good DSP settings
*32 polyphony
*Alot of presets, so you can save your favorite sounds
*Powerful mixing board
*Layer and Split settings, which means that up to four sounds can be playing at once
*Very light weight, especially compaired to some Yamaha's and Rolands I've tried to pick up.
*Many tones, some very funny, such as Helicopter, Applause, and GunShot.
*Many different beats.
*The LCD screen is nice.
*Casio Cord is very accurate.

THE OKAY:
*The onboard speakers are loud, but the louder they get, the worse the quality. Its only a problem for me on a couple of the sounds.
*Only two songs can be saved at a time.
*The volume is very sensitive.
*Keys aren't weighted.I don't mind it, but some do.
*Touch sensitivity is okay.At it's highest, it's just okay, nothing like a real piano at all.But since the keys aren't weighted, you're not going to get much better.

THE BAD:
*Really big.Really really big.
*Feels flimsy.I've made scratches on mine by hitting my ring against it.
*Some of the sounds are the same, such as the violins

I bought my keyboard used without a manual.I've figured out most of the settings, such as how to mix, but there are still some which I haven't figured out yet.I would suggest getting the manual, even though it is very easy to understand and use.Like I said, it came used, and I've put it through alot (like a rainstorm, being dropped on the ground, ALOT of travel without a case in the car), and it's still holding up great. The speaker quality isn't an issue with me because if I want it loud, I can plug it into my amp.It does get very loud with it's own speakers (altough a few of the settings cause the sound to waver).

I absolutely love my keyboard.I've compaired it to others, such as the high end of the Yamaha DGX series, and I like my Casio much better.

Buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars if you're looking for some quiet practice, this is it
i am a 16 piano lover, and i am lucky enough to own a beautiful piano.yet, that piano happens to be in the center of the house, much to my family's dislike. As i said, i love piano, and tend to practice a lot. This keyboard was perfect for those times when my dad had a headache, or my mom was trying to watch tv, of my sister was sleeping. The sound is beautiful, it's easy to use, and the headphones i bought in addition are wonderful.this keyboard has many additional aspects to it, although i haven't quiet figured them out...lol.the ones i use are the recording, where you can even store songs you've recorded (great for finding your trouble spots and wrong notes in pieces), and i also use the metronome. Also, it's a lot of fun to play around with the different sounds you can use, there's some really great ones. The display is very clear and displays the intrument largely.
BUY THIS!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Keyboard
This keyboard is phenomenal for the money!
I recently bought a Yamaha DGX-202, (a comparable unit), returned it then bought the Casio.
Casio blows the doors off the Yamaha.
The sound is phenomenal. (Much better than the Yamaha's)
The fuctionality is excellent.
The styling is beautiful.
And for the street price ($...) it's an incredible deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate for Bros with a Low Cash Flow
This is a surprisingly [inexpensive] piece of equipment for the kind of power it contains. With 232 tones, (32 which you can create yourself) some excellent demo songs to showcase it's power, and over 100 rythms (20 which you can create yourself) this is a powerful piano impersonator. I've things like this that were basically ... batteries. Expensive, bulky, meek, weak etc., you get the idea. This masterful musician's amigo is only 200 something dollars and is EXTREMELY poweful. To get the best out of this equipment, get the computer Music starter pack (or some kinda name like that) from cakewalk to create bigger, easier to compose songs. I'm only 14 and I can make I own music easily with this dynamic digitizer. You won't regret it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Casio WK1630 Keyboard or Yamaha PSR-GX76AD
My wife and I debated on which 76-Note keyboard to buy: Casio WK-1630 or Yamaha PSR-GX76AD. The price range for both products is very close.

At the beginning, we kind of leaning on the Yamaha for the following reasons:
-Yamaha GX76 has 5 songs, 6 tracks memory while Casio WK1630 only has 2 songs, 6 tracks memory.
-Yamaha has one hundred built-in songs while Casio has twenty something songs.
-Yamaha has a tutorial book come with it while Casio has none.
-Yamaha has four local stores in town for services while Casio has none.
-Yamaha has good reputation in producing musical instrument than Casio.

After testing both products in several stores, we finally settled for the Casio WK1630 for the following reasons:Casio WK-1630 has a better volume control and the sound quality seems to be a little better than the Yamaha GX76. Since my wife is not a beginner, she doesn't care about the education book. She only cares the quality of the music and the audible level of the music. She wants loud PoP music. Yamaha can't produce loud enough music even we turned the volume to the max. We tried the volume features on several stores to make the comparison. The conclusion is Casio produces music louder at the max volume with acceptable sound quality while Yahama couldn't produce loud music at the max volume. That help us made up our mind.

So if you are a beginner and don't care about the loudness of the music, Yamaha seems to be better: more feature and a free tutorial book.
If you are not a beginner and want a loud PoP music, you may consider the Casio WK-1630. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Beginner's Keyboard
As the other reviewers have said, this is a great keyboard for the beginner or the person who just wants to play around. If you are looking for a professional keyboard, this is not for you.

I recently decided to learn piano and bought this keyboard as a good starter keyboard (instead of paying thousands of dollars for a real piano). I was pleasantly surprised. The sound quality is excellent. The speakers won't blast you out but they are strong enough. Also, the instrument sounds are very realistic for an electronic keyboard. The grand piano sound sounds more like a piano than the old upright I practice on at a friend's house.

The number and variety of the sounds, beats, and songs is good. The play-along feature is great! You choose a style (with drums and bass). You can then intro into the song. There are always two different tempos to switch between with short breaks to transition from one tempo to another. So at the push of a button, you have a backing band for whatever you want to play. This was nice as I am practicing basic jazz improvisation and it is good to have a backing beat to work with.

The keys and displays are set up intuitively and after about 15-30 minutes of playing around, you'll know where everything is and what you need to do.

The keys are well spaced and have a touch sensitivity that works well.

I have not tried the more advanced features on the keyboard, but the manual appears to be well written and helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing for Beginners
Was awesome, on Thursday i receive an e-mail saying that they shipped my daughters keyboard... on Saturday (same week) at 10:30 the Fedex car was at the door. My daughter wasnt at home and i decide to make a run to buy some batteries before she comes back, (i choose without AC Power because budget was tied), but on my way i saw a house having garage sell, then i stop to see if they have some eletronics or speakers, BUT, the best, i saw that PA3C adaptor from Yamaha that fits perfect for the keyboard... 1.50 USD, and i run back home to try...PERFECT!
We are having so much fun...as the others say, this is a home keyboard, don't expect something to explode your ears. I like in the way it is.
Awesome first experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good deal for the price
Both my wife and I were looking for an entry level keyboard. After spending some time on the Internet and stores, we finally nailed down our choice to this one for its excellent price and features. There was a little goof up with the One Click method, and Amazon shipped it over priority mail instead of the free shipping. But when we sent them an e-mail they refunded the shipping cost.

The product so far has performed up to our expectation. Although we are yet to experiment on the advanced features like downloading songs, the basic functionality works just fine. There are plenty of preloaded rythms to select for the song you would like to play. Also there are practice songs (didn't help much to us as we play Indian music). The only poor thing about this model I guess is the speaker. It should have been more powerful perhaps. And also note that it doesn't come with the AC adapter. So better you order that one too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Keyboard!!! AWESOME price!!!!A+
After i did alot of searching and researching of different keyboards in this price range, i found that amazons price and that the psr-290 was a perfect match! This keyboard is an awesome piece of hardware for the money.
I have bought mine having never played a piano or keyboard, so i really didn't know what to expect. After playing with mine for a week now, i must say that this baby is LOADED with tons of features. Best buy was offering this same keyboard for 199.00, so amazons price at 159.00 was totally awesome especially considering i used the FREE SHIPPING method.I ordered mine on a late thursday night and it was on my door step on monday morning!!!THAT WAS AWESOME INDEED!!!:)

As far as the keyboard goes, you simply can't beat the price and performance! My only beef was that amazon shipped it in the box that its packed in. I'm sure its because it so big, but i could tell that the box had been put through its paces, but nothing was damaged in the end. So all in all, i am VERY pleased with this keyboard!!!
If you are wanting this for a beginners keyboard, this baby will NOT leave you disappointed!GO FOR IT!!! hehehe ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Yamaha YPR50 offers all the basics in a full-sized, 76-key electric keyboard. It provides a unique touch sensitivity, so beginners learn finger sensitivity from the outset, as they would on a real piano. Among its many features are 32-note polyphony, a song library, five voices, and 20 accompaniment styles.

Full, 32-note polyphony lets you play complex sustained chords and passages without cutting off the notes. The pianist feature automatically chooses the most appropriate of 20 piano accompaniment styles. Simply hold down one key, or play the full chord, and the YPR50 will accompany in that style, instantly and effortlessly making your performances sound more professional.

Yamaha offers a variety of voices as well. Thanks to sophisticated stereo sampling, the grand piano voice is especially realistic; other voices include piano, harpsichord, organ, and string--each created from digital recordings of actual instruments.

A left-hand accompaniment feature can record and play two hands independently. The left hand records on track one while the right hand records on track two, letting you practice one hand at a time. The YPR50's built-in digital performance memory, with fast-forward, rewind, pause, and play, makes it easy to record practice sessions.

Also featured is a metronome with modifiable time signatures that you can turn on and off for practice purposes. Just for fun, Yamaha provides a built-in song library that consists of 20 popular piano songs and a companion music book for learning and playing along, using provided melody guides.

MIDI in/out jacks let you integrate your electronic piano with a state-of-the-art music production system. If the two speakers and their 3-watt amplifiers get too loud, Yamaha provides a headphone jack so you can create melodies without disturbing others (headphones aren't included).

The YPR50 comes with a keyboard stand, a music stand, and a sustain pedal at an affordable price. You can plug it into the wall with an adapter, or run it with six D-size batteries (not included). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it!
I live in an apartment, so a full sized piano was out of question. The size and the volume control made me look into a digital piano. They usually cost more than $1000, so I was quite skeptic about this one. After comparing the specs, the only differences between expensive ones and this model were the number of keys (88 vs 76) and key weight control. So I decided to go for this one.

It comes with wooden stand, sustain pedal, music stand, music books, and adapter - basically everything you need!

The sound is beautiful. No annoying electronic sound I was afraid of. After playing music from past lessons such as Sonatinen, I also discovered that 76 keys are quite sufficient.

After 6 months, I have no complaint.
It's definitely a great buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value for Money
For what it costs, the YPR50 is easily top of its class. Touch sensitive keys and a sustain pedal make for as a real a piano experience as possible for the price. The realistic Grand Piano sound and the hardwood stand give it an extra realistic appeal.

Weighted keys would have completed the YPR50. The absence of weighted keys is natural for the price but detracts from the real piano playing experience. For the beginning to intermediate pianist and even for the serious pianist on a tight budget, the YPR50 is a great value for money.

If you're willing to spend a little more though, you should look into a weighted key digital piano such as the Yamaha YPD series.

Draw backs : The sustain pedal is as flimsy as they get. With no weighted anchor, it flips around annoyingly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice! Glad I bought it.
I am very happy with this digital piano. Originally I wanted a regular piano, but even the used pianos listed in the newspaper can get pricey. This product solved my needs. Because of the stand, this instrument is more like a piece of furniture in the room, not some flimsy keyboard. And yet, unlike a piano, this Yamaha Digital Piano is easy to move around if one needs to. The stand is made out of pressed wood, is very sturdy, and does the job nicely. It was simple to put together, all I needed was a phillips screw driver. The wood is black in color. (The Amazon photo can sometimes make it look brown.) The full-size 76 keys on it are wonderful to have and allows one to play any piece of music without limitations. There is a music stand on top of the keyboard for convenience. The sound is rich and pleasant. There are five voices: Grand Piano (sounds wonderful), Electric Piano, Organ, Strings, and Harpsichord. Another great attribute to this instrument is the sustain pedal. It's terrific! No sacrificing from a tradition piano. If you're a student you will have the elements you need to learn appropriately. Though the stated Amazon offer doesn't provide an adapter to plug into the wall (one would have to purchase it separately) instead of using batteries, surprisingly my shipment arrived with a sticker on the box saying, "Bonus adapter included". And sure enough the adapter was included, no additional purchase to make. Amazon's technical details page on this product states the unit is 161 lbs. That's probably a typo. My shipment arrived from UPS rather quickly in a box about 5 ft. long and 3 ft. high with a weight of 46 lbs.... Overall, Yamaha has come up with an exceptional product to allow one to have a piano in their home when a traditional piano is out of the budget. The stand provides the full appreciation of sitting down to a wonderful instrument. I've read someone else's post saying it's not right to learn piano on anything other than a traditional piano. I think differently with this product. This product has all the concerns needed, and the sound wasn't sacrificed. There are also plenty of other features I didn't mention. Yamaha did their homework. It's nice to hear piano being played in the home.

5-0 out of 5 stars As for this Stand, I'm your biggest fan.
I've been needing a new keyboard for some of my random wedding gigs. My pals Ben Wa and Geraldine kept begging me to play at their wedding. I soon understood the nature of the importance they had presented me with. They were having a mock Elvis wedding. Geraldine looked fabu with her Priscilla wig. They even had some very nice plastic champagne glasses that I took home, they work just fine if you wash them. I didn't end up buying the keyboard for that wedding, but I did get it as a suprise gift for myself. I was so suprised, at how much I really liked it. I was so glad I liked. It had a strong stand which really comes in handy for my new age version of "Who Let The Dogs Out/Macarena Medley". The pressure sensitive keys set my fingers ablaze with emotion. It is a superior function that I know will come in handy in preparing for my rendition of "Stan" by Eminem with Sir Elton John. The only thing I would change(and did!) is the sustain pedal. It didn't seem as stationary as I would have liked, so I replaced it with the chrome foot shaped pedal from my 76' Chevy Van. I think this is a nice balance in price and performance. Overall the best feature is a nice "feel". When I come back around from a 360' kick to Gaigi Tah Chop, I have to hit those keys just right. A necessary skill for the piano-man. Yours in Lite Metal. -Meesta Bits

5-0 out of 5 stars great buy
This piano turned out to be much more value than I expected for the price. It has a great sound, sustain pedal, midi capablity and if you wire it into you stereo more sound than your spouse can stand.

Not too often does a product turn out to be better that advertised. This is one time when that's true. ... Read more
