excellent value, can't do better for this price
I did quite a bit of research before finally buying this keyboard.

It has better key-feel than all similarly priced models I tried and better than many higher priced models.

I ended up with the 300 specifically because I like its streamline look, and it's all black/gray/white, no wood finish, which I like.

Instead of buying the furniture stand made for it, I have it on a cheap X frame stand which is adequate and makes it easy to move.Since the keyboard itself is less than 30 lbs, seemed a shame to lock it into a furniture type stand.

Bottom line: highly recommended.

Casio Privia PX-300 Digital Piano
I own this item and have to say that the quality and value are on the up and up. The best sound is the default grand piano: very responsive, very realistic. Now, there are better piano sounds out there, but to get them you'll have to pay at least twice to three times as much. And, even then you may only get a slightly better quality sound over this unit. Really, for this price range the Casio is the way to go!

If I could change anything, it would be the speakers; they need to be a little bigger/louder. The sustain foot-pedal should also be a bit more substantial. As for the things I like, the stereo line outs are helpful so you can plug into an external amp. The headphone jack is good to keep from bothering others. The ability to transpose the piano into different keys is great! Visual appeal of the unit is very good: futuristic and streamlined, but not ostentatious.

For the beginner/intermediate looking for a decent piano in both sound and feel, and for the pro looking for an easily transportable practice (and perhaps even gigging) unit, this is it. Beyond the average for an attractive price
There are plenty of professional synthesizers on the market. Pro gear, semi professional and beginner's level. This one is in the middle range as to its technical capabilities and in the highest range as to its value for money. The good sides are plenty:
1) you can load into the synth new sounds transformed from standard wav files and the synth has in-built sound editing capabilities; 2)new sounds and effects constantly emerge from the Casio music site; 3)the synth has a good many keys (light keys, unfortunately) spanning 5+ octaves, two programmable wheels, audio/midi ports; 4) the sounds are very very good (especially the organ sounds); 5) the price compared to competitors such as Yamaxa or Roland is simply marvellous. The drawbacks as I see them are mainly related to the software which accompanies and supports the keyboard, namely: 1) the software absolutely fails to respond when transferring large files (500 KB to 1MB) through the MIDI connection (that's where Smart Media Card helps immensely); 2) the manufacturer was EXTREMELY niggardly with respect to the internal memory size. It's far too small. Why provide large sounds on the Website if there is no sufficient storage space for them? Nevertheless, I rate the device at 5 stars.

to save space and time, mine as well as yours, let's view the good and the not so good sides, features and capabilities (one cannot call them altogether bad) of the keyboard.
In the good to excellent range: price and functionality ratio. 76 keys, 2 wheels, programmable and uploadable sounds, digital sound effects for the small price! That's more than you would ever neednot to think twice.
Shortcomings: uploaded sounds can be very large and quickly take up all the internal memory. The option of using a SmartMedia card saves the situation but nevertheless Casio's approach in this respect shows a desire to mark the line between semi-professional and pro instruments very clearly. This instrument is clearly above the beginner's level so what's the use in the manufacturer being so niggardly with respect to the internal memory?

I played Moonlight Sonata without a single lesson!
This is an outstanding keyboard.I've never had a piano lesson, yet I was able to play Moonlight Sonata right after taking it out of the box.This keyboard has a feature that lights the keys you are supposed to play about 2 seconds before you are supposed to play them.As a result, you are able to play complicated songs without a single lesson, or reading a single page of sheet music.It's very satisfying.While I am teaching myself to play the piano, I am able to play beautiful and complicated songs.It's a great way to stay motivated.

My keyboard did not come with an adapter either, so you'll have to pick one up seperately.

No adapter....This was a rip-off
I bought this and took it to another state to give to my grandchildren on Christmas Day. What a disappointment. Grandpa thought there was an adapter "in the box" as advertised so we had the whole day with no adapter and no batteries. I notified Amazon immediately. They sent me another whole keyboard but no adapter again. I will have to think twice about believing anything Amazon has in its ads. There were plenty of other places to get this, maybe I should have gone to a store where they could show me what was in the box before I disappoint my grandkids again.

Cool keyboard
Got this key board for Christmas for my mom.But she also got me one.There is no ac adapter in the box like item describes only downer.Lots of fun though.My mom got my lk-90 at sam's and she only paid 150 with a stand included..oh and the one from sam's did have the adapterwho can figure.

It seems to be a great product, but I searched all over in the manual to find out whether or not the adaptor was included-on Christmas eve which was not much fun.I think it should've been included for the price I paid.
I gave 4 stars because of all the features.I just hope it lasts.

My kids got this for Xmas and its very cool.Comes with 100 songs and you can download more with your computer and pipe them over via USB or on a Smart Media card.The keys light up on the programmed songs to help you along and an LCD display tells your tempo and what fingers you should be using on which keys.

If you have kids that play piano, its very nice that they can now practice somewhere and be quiet or use headphones.

It's a little intimidating with all its buttons and features, but otherwise a very nice piece of equipment.Comes with a power adapter and microphone.Consider getting a keyboard stand and bench so you can put it wherever you want since it is portable (compared to a piano).In its most basic form, you just plug in the power, turn it on and start playing.

Beginner friendly, but great for the hobbyist, too.
Ifyou've never played the piano before, this will help you on your way. Notice I do not say it will show you how, which it does to an extant, but I believe that the best way to learn piano is to start from the beginning, which this unit does not do. It has 30 songs built-in along with 70 on the supplied CD-Rom, which will not do you any good without both a computer and either a smart media card or a $50 MIDI cable. The learning features will only allow you to learn the music installed on the system, so if there's not a song there, and you cannot download it from the internet, you're going to have to learn how to read music. With several hundredvoices, including around 75 sound effects, there's plenty to play with here. It is sturdy enough that I feel comfortable allowing my children to play on it - with close supervision, of course. The software it comes with to view the music is not too bad, but I've found better - Solera for one. YOU CAN STOP LOOKING NOW
Hunting high and low? Losing a tad bit of sleep? Wondering if your musicianship will suffer if this machine sucks? Oh brave heart put away your Internet Browser and write that novel, poem, or short story you've always wanted to. I was like you, fret this and fret that...what if the yea sayers are full of it? What if the nay sayers are too? Put simply there is no better deal for the money. I've done what your probably doing: all the worrying and comparative shopping with pure verve and I STILL feel a bit ashamed of myself for the amount the amount of time I spent looking. But its been seven heavenly months with my 550 and I anticipate many years to come before I have pounded this one into the ground and have to buy the very same model again. (Its even tough enough to abuse a little.) If they never improved upon this model then life would be just wonderful. For the money it is utterly complete in itself, the rest is up to your skill. If you are a passionate musician on a budget then you have found a home. I still look at my Baby (yes thats what I call it) and shake my head in wonder at how inexpensive, hell dirt cheap, it is. Most people think it costs at least a $1000 or $1500. I remember worrying about keyboard expressiveness and sound quality being my two peeves along with recording ability. I can shamelessly say to you that the 550 has all three in spades. The headphone jack is superb! I put a big pair of sony digital's on sometimes and man...whoa! Some people complain about its not loud enough. Pah! I have entertained a medium to large sized living room crowd of about 15. And it has a limiter that keeps all your dynamic range but doesn't allow you to blow the speakers. Lets see..anything else...oh! Forget the DGX boards...not enough substance. A VERY Incredible Keyboard!
I researched keyboards for over a month before purchasing the Yamaha PSR-550.Needless to say, it is more than anything I learned while researching keyboards, and much more than I ever had hoped for!It has more capabilities than the above-average person could ever use.The price is well below that of what it should be, considering all that the keyboard can create.The only limits it has are those of the musician using it.I have connected it to my computer, and it performs perfectly.I recommend purchasing XGworks software to go along with the keyboard as well.The keyboard is fairly easy to learn (take your time, there are a gazillion combinations of controls and capabilities), very easy to set up, and time consuming to walk away from (it is so much fun to use that you loose track of time).Two words.....BUY IT! ...
