5-0 out of 5 stars Attention Pros: Huge Bang-for-the-Buck!
As a professional pianist/organist for nearly a half-century, I can tell you this: Casio has floored me with this keyboard! One usually associates the name "Casio" with entry-level toys. Not so the Privia series; these 'boards are the real deal. While all the available sounds are more than acceptable, the acoustic pianos are particularly fine. But the real stunners are the electric pianos; from the "60's" Wurlitzer-like patch to an authentic Rhodes and a very serviceable Yamaha DX/TX "digital" piano, I could scarcely believe my ears -- especially at this price!Loads of extras come with the Privia (especially the 400R), including usable effects and a decent split/layer setup. So far, the only downside (for me, anyway) is the number of steps necessary to convert the 'board to an external controller (I regularly use the piano to control the lower manual of a full Hammond setup); it would be nice to be able to set up a patch that could be accessed via one or two buttons, similar to a Roland, Kurweil or Yamaha piano/controller.

With the holidays fast approaching, the Privia is going to get a real workout. This is the true test of a keyboard -- how it holds up to all that schlepping ("The road is a hard mistress!").Guess we'll have to wait and see... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value 'semi-weighted' keyboard
I was surprised at the low price of this keyboard considering it has 61 semi-weighted keys. I thought maybe it wouldn't be such great quality but I was pleasantly surprised.
I thought at first that the keys were a little bit "springy", but I soon got used to them. So much so that when I went back to my old Yamaha keyboard (not weighted), the Yamaha felt terrible. This M-Audio lets you play nice and subtle.
There's not much to this keyboard, just a couple of very smooth acting wheels (pitch and modulation), a volume slider and a couple of function buttons. It all seems well-made and the keyboard is heavier than I expected.
I was pleased to find that when I took it out of its box, plugged in the USB cable and opened GarageBand, everything worked perfectly, immediately. No messing about.
It works well with GarageBand (not tried it with anything else), and being powered by the USB cable means it's dead easy to plug in and start playing.
At this price, I can't see how you can go wrong. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars NO AC ADAPTOR
I WAS CUT OFF THE LAST TIME I TRIED TO LEAVE A MESSAGE. SO, TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT. YOUR 149.99 PRICE IS $185.54 BY THE TIME YOU PAY TAXES, SHIPPING AND HANDLING. THE KEYBOARD DOES NOT INCLUDE AN AC ADAPTOR. I AM TOLD THEY ARE AROUND $30.00 AND IF YOU BUY THE WRONG ONE IT WILL BLOW UP YOUR KEYBOARD. WE ARE GOING TO TRY OUR BEST TO RETURN THIS TO TARGET. YOU SHOULD BE NOTIFIED OF THE EXTRA COST AND THE FACT THAT IT DOES NOT COME WITH AN AC ADAPTOR. BATTERIES ONLY LAST ABOUT 6 HOURS.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Entry Level Touch Sencitive Keyboard But Beware
I recently have decided to learn to play the keyboard. As a complete beginner I decided I wouls begin with a keyboard as opposed to a piano to learn, and possibly move up as I gained experience.I must say, after recently purchasing this instrument I am thoroughly pleased.

Upon receiving this, which is the entry level, or lowest priced Casio model to feature btouch sensitive keys, I found there to be to defects in the way that the keyboard functions, and it is free of the low volume problems that are apparant in yamaha's entry level touch sensitive model.

I also learned that, however, the buyer should beware. Not only does this product arrive without an AC power adapter, but it also lacks a sustain pedal, which is essential to anyone who plan to use this keyboard to play at least intermediate music.

The model numbers for the adapter and the sustain pedal are located in the owner's manuel, in case you do decide to purchase this otherwise problem free product. But buyer beware however, that the price listed above is not the final one.Add on approximately, as I know from experience, about 15 dollars for the adapter, and 20 dollars for the "optional" sustain pedal, plus taxes.

Overall, however, besides the additional costs, I have found this product to be of plaesing quality and have no other quibbs about it.The keyboard only possesses 61 keys, however, 27 short of a full 88 key keyboard found on high level digital pianos and acoustic pianos, being 5 octaves plus one key.If 61 keys is not enough, I recommend you look elsewhere.

I may sound like I'm complaining, but I'm not. Some positive features that this keyboard does possess include 100 built in tunes, 50 classical and 50 dubbed "sing along".Examples include Mozart's fantastic "Turkish March", all the way down to "Tne Entertainer", and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star".In addtion, an easy to use three step lesson system and stereo controls round out this entry level touch sensitive keyboard.

For the beginner, I do recommend this product, but beware the extra fees.

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS THING IS BAD
This is so bad. My sister has a $30 key board and it works BETTER! I was so mad when I got this product. Its a high price for something little. WOW. do not and I repeat DO NOT buy this you will be sorry. It stinks. Well thats what I have to say.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware-final price is higher
Beware. The price listed does not include the cost of the AC power adapter. Furthermore, you must take care to make sure you get the correct power adapter, something I am not finding easy at this point. Unless you want to replace the batteries every six hours while you practice, the AC power adapter is essential - as Casio knew when they put this device on the market.
Had it not been for that one issue, I would have been absolutely elated with this product. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars There's a lot here!
As a 30 plus year keyboard player, I'm a little amazed to say that THIS is my main axe!Tons of sounds, those wonderful piano style keys, lightweight. This is the one I haul around. Here are the negatives first:keys are slightly smaller than full-size.No modulation wheel or capability, you're pretty much stuck with the sounds you have.Positives:HUNDREDS of sounds, pads, great pianos, saxes, it will take months to go through them all.I love (no, NEED) the box-style piano keys.Display and ease of use are excellent..Briefly, this is not a professional synth, but a very good, amazingly versatile personal keyboard.I love this kid!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great piano for an even greater price!
Designed for beginners and professionals alike, the DGX-300 combines musical technicality with an outstanding price of under $500. This unit with 76 keys, has more than enough for the complex player, yet offers built-in learning programs for the beginning hobbyist. I love my DGX-300, and I love it's amazing rich piano sound. I was worried at first when I began shopping for a keyboard. I wanted something that wouldn't sound like a fake plastic paino. This machine actually senses your stress on the keys, and sounds exactly like a concert grand. It's absolutely amazing. I was also very impressed with the sound quality, as it was also amazing. The speaker reviews should not at all be a factor in the purchase of this unit. For this price, and the Yamaha name, you're not going to find an instrument as great as this.

5-0 out of 5 stars My key is on the board
Someday I will be a master player... These keyboards are just amazing! I love to play with these! There hundrends of special options ans sounds. Beginner can learn easily to play with Yamaha keyboards because you can use teaching program and see on the blue screen, which key you are touching. There are five memory places that you can make your own songs and save them. If you are bored to play normal piano sound, you'll try other sounds for exemple harpcicord, bass, heavy quitar, gun, dog barking or helicopter tunes. There are many vital buttons: metronome(choose your own personal playing speed), touch-sensitive( you can play quiet and loud because your hands will control how hard you press the keys) and pc-portable( you can make music with computer and make your own remixes) Yamaha keyboards are a great choose to buy if you are planning to start a new hobby!

4-0 out of 5 stars Yamaha DGX300 for Home Use
I am very pleased with the quality and layout of this board. Prior to purchasing I read less than favorable results on the sound quality. My unit sounds great through the speakers and even better through headphones or amplified. This should not be a limiting factor on your decision. The 76 keys are great, the sounds are exceptional. While there are drum tracks and every percussion sound imaginable, I would prefer to have a drum kit built in to add greater flexibility. Most of the music and sound databases are from the 40's - 60's, old time favorites, etc. Would prefer to have something with more modern appeal. You can download and upload from disk so maybe this is the go round. Too early to tell. Great unit at a great price. Highly recommended. ... Read more
