Great Guitar!
I've already got the Fender single-coil pickup sound covered, as well as various Gibson humbuckers.I wanted something for recording that had a different sound that you don't hear every day.This is perfect.I play mostly through a Fender Hod Rod Deville (4-10's) with the bass/treb/mid all at 10, and I get that perfect John Lennon sound, like on "I've got a Feeling", "Get Back", and "Don't Let Me Down".I know John played a Casino, but I get his sound better using the Joe Pass on the bridge pickup, than I do using my Casino.Very very cool.....and the neck pickup is great for fat sounding, clean rhythm work.Sheer magic through a chorus pedal.Wow. ... My Old Sidekick
The Gibson ES-345 debuted in 1959, after a trial run in '58. With it's split parallelogram inlays, 6-point varitone, and screaming '57 PAFs, it was obvious then, and 46 years later, is still obvious now that this guitar would not, and will not, go out of style. I have the Trans brown reissue and at 8lbs 13 oz, it is amazingly light for a guitar this size. The slim tapered neck is perfect!. I usually run it through my 4 Fender FM 212R 100 watt combos (inexpensive, yet very powerful solid state amps which are excellent as a practice set-up. Anything over volume setting 1 1/2 will require micing the drums), through a Boss GT-6 and a Digitech GNX3. Stereo out of the boards, while mono out of the guitar, using a Whirlwind splitter. Most modern day thrash heads don't give this guitar a 2nd look, which suits me just fine. Jazz players seem to really enjoy it. But I say, whatever your style, this great old guitar will do it. Between the varitone and the pickup selector switch, a wide variety of sounds are literally at your finger tips. If you play the guitar, you owe it to yourself to play a 345 just once.
