5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT Value for Money!
The Oscar Schmidt OE30 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar is a GREAT guitar, and its price weighs in at a mere $149 (plus applicable taxes and shipping). I used to sell these, and they play good and sound great. They make good starter guitars or are ducky for geting back into playing. They also make a fine second guitar or for when you need an instrument tuned to a chord for slide.

If you're inclined at all, how could you go wrong at this price?

5-0 out of 5 stars Decent guitar for the price.
When I saw this guitar on sale for such a low price, I just had to give it a try. I just received it today, and I have to say I'm quite pleased with the purchase. This guitar certainly doesn't compare with some of the $1,000+ axes I own, but for the $129 I paid for it, it was a steal.

This model is available in 4 different finishes, the cherry is what I purchased. The other three finishes are black, blue-burst and tobacco-burst. Having now seen what I got for my $129, I've just gone ahead and ordered another in blue-burst. You just can't have too many guitars, and this price sure makes it easier to satisfy my addiction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Value=Price
I ordered this guitar from Muscian's Friend for the same price less $20 coupon. I think it is a wonderful instrument for the price you pay. I was looking for a hollow body when I found this one. It played real well out of the box. I will have to do minimal set up to get it to play the way I want it to. I am still partial to my nine Fenders! This is a great practice instrument and great for a beginner too. I will use it at a gig soon and see how it does and will update this review.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible value...
I'm a Fender/single coils guy and wanted a creamy 335 sound to round out my arsenal. Does the Delta King nick it? Probably not, but what it DOES do, it does remarkably well. I LOVE the sound (and variety of sounds) that this instrument produces.
On neck postion with the tone wide open, it is wonderfully jazzy and warm. It is vastly superior to my Epi Zephyr Regent (I'll probably sell that, now that I've found what I was looking for). Chords and lines ARE creamy, although perhaps lacking the defintion and 'sing' of a 335. But this is a $150.00 axe. $2200.00 might buy that Gibson 'intangible', but I don't have that kind of scratch. Middle postion is suitably jangly for pop and rock, and great for funky 9th chords. Bridge position is chunky and pleasantly brittle. Very good for funky ol' blues solos where infinite sustain isn't a vital part of the equation.
The OE-30 is a wonderful change for me. I haven't enjoyed noodling so much in a long time.
This is, arguably, the best guitar bargain ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Great Guitar
Over the years I've owned several guitars and I have to say that this one is one of the best. The finish is a beautiful deep transparent red that brings out the grain underneath. After changing the strings to a gauge that I'm comfortable with it plays like a dream. The tones of the "Delta King" range from a country twang to rich and bluesy. All and all I have to say that the purchase of this guitar was one of best deals ever. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars all this for so cheap?
Well, I am impressed. I was hesitant when seeing some of the bad write ups but figured with Musician's Friend's great service, if it isn't good- send it back. Well, no need to send it back. I got the black one, very classic looking- almost flawless finish(has one tiny white stray mark under the clear but it's on the bottom back). Grover tuners are SILKY and the Washburn humbuckers ROCK! All pots work smooth and static-free(2 tone/2 volume and a three way switch)All hardware was tight and performed great. Intonition is dead on money. I MIGHT run lighter strings next go round(I like .09-.42s). Very nice sound since semi-hollow. I had a $20 off coupon so for under a benji-frank, I have a very nice guitar. Originally, I didn't even LOOK at semi-hollows, I'm young, they look OLD. But THEN, I played an Epiphone Dot Studio and I fell in LOVE with the short string length and easy of playability on the thin neck. And for a lot cheaper, I could get an Oscar-Schmidt- so I did. I got the gig bag too and it was worth the extra. Tweed vintage look with embroidered Oscar Schmidt. If you want a Gibson, GO BUY ONE, don't give this little axe a bad rap because you didn't buy what you really wanted. If you want a cheap playable semi-hollow to diversify your collection, go for it!

3-0 out of 5 stars quality control
I've had to send back 3 of these already (scratched pickguard and neck pickup down inside the body) Musician's Friend's policy is to keep shipping out a different one at their expense rather than open the box to see if their stock is defective.I'm waiting on #4 to arrive. The price is right only if you get a good one.Otherwise it's not a good value after paying a repairman to fix it.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Inexpensive Axe To Play The Blues On
As you know from my tool reviews I am a magazine columnistwho reviews tools for boatbuilding. My other love beside my wife and tools is my music playing. When I became disabled I solda lot of my guitar collection to pay bills and I thought I would never use them again. When I started playing again I found I needed a good quality guitar that had good resonance to give a little blues flavor.I ordered the OE30 with some trepidation since it was very inexpensive. When I got it the strings were rusted junk but the rest of the guitar was very nice.No neck warp, no uneven frets, good sounding hum buckers and excellent intonation .

This model was made in China and not Indonesia as all the newer OE30's are now.The finish has no flaws at all and the Grover tuners work great.I have heard some very bad reviews of this guitar but I must have received a perfect specimen. When I hook this axe to my big amp and play you would think I could be playing a Gretch or Gibson semi hollow body . In fact the OE30 fits in the Epiphone 335 case that is on sale for very few bucks and it fits perfectly. My suggestion for anyone is to buy this sweet machine but send back any inferior products because they may have some quality control issues and they do have an excellent return policy.Mine is black but for the price I would not mind having a cherry and blue burst model also.Who could have thought that I could buy a great semi hollow body guitar for less than a grand although it does say Delta King on the headstock.Try one or more you will like them!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best deal .
I'm a hobbyist amateur and found this to be the best way to own a quality semi hollow body guitar. It has a great tone and fast neck.

The pick-ups and bridge are inconsistantly installed and adjusted from the factory (Indonesia).

I bought 3 and they all need some various professional attention.

Otherwise an excellent bargain. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Bargain: not perfect, but worth 5 times the price
While there are minor imperfections in the workmanship, you won't care when you see and HEAR this GORGEOUS instrument. If it had cost $1000 it would have been a good deal, for under $300 it's a steal.
PROS: The sound is rich and woody, beautiful for Wes Montgomery style Jazz (though I imagine it would be perfect also for retro-styles of blues/rock).The neck is nice, not too big, though a bit rounded for my taste. The pickups are nice, though I think improvement could be had by replacing them eventually. Oh, and the wood and finish make this as beautiful an instrument to look at as you'll find anywhere (even non-musicians can't help but comment).
CONS:When you turn up your amp, you'll quickly notice the feedback issue (it's a big hollowbody with wide range pickups).Factory setup is ok, but definitely benefitted from tweaking (lowered the action, reset intonation), and strings are junk from the factory -- spend the $12 for a decent set of new strings. There was also some minor 'checking' on the neck where it meets the fingerboard, but doesn't effect feel or play.
SUMMARY:For any amount of money, this guitar would be beautiful in look and sound, for the current price though, it's worth buying two. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard Axe to Beat for the Price
I bought this guitar (blueburst version, made in China) based on the reviews I'd seen here and elsewhere on the web. After having played it now for several months, I can safely say this guitar is worth WAY more than than the price being charged here. Even including the Washburn GC71 case, to walk away with everything for the amount I paid, I feel like I'm stealing.

Let me qualify this by saying I've been playing guitar for about 40 years. I spent about 8 of those years playing, teaching, selling and repairing guitars for a living. I own or have owned a wide range of guitars, from collector's items to old junker guitars. I know guitars.

I value my various guitars for their playing and sonic qualities, not simply because they have a prestigious nameplate. I've been wanting a semi-hollowbody ever since my '78 ES-335 was stolen from me (along with my '67 Les Paul Custom) many years ago. I just didn't want to spend the $500+ to get a decent 335-type guitar (and definitely couldn't justify buying a new Gibson). When I saw the OE30, I figured I'd take the chance, since the price was so affordable.

OK, on to the details: The overall workmanship is excellent, especially considering the price. There were a couple of laquer drips on the edges of the "F" holes, but nothing a fine file and gentle touch couldn't fix in a minute or two. One of the pickup ring screws was not all the way in, but I know how to operate a phillips screwdriver. The action and intonation were decent, as were the strings, especially for an "out of the box" guitar. I did a little tweaking the first time I changed the strings, and even then I don't need to make much of a change. The neck joint is rock solid, with no discernable movement, and less neck flex than my original handmade neck-through-body BC Rich Mockingbird. I was impressed by the high-quality Grover tuners, and a very workable bridge. The frets are nice, although they needed a bit of breaking in, like on almost any new guitar. The electronics don't appear to be shielded, but the pots sound smooth and clean. The input jack is the only part I've had any trouble with; the connection is sometimes intermitent. Still, it's not been so bad I've felt the need to replace the jack, and if I do, it's a relatively simple operation. I'd be dissapointed to see this problem in a $500.00 guitar, but for the price being charged for the OE30, I can deal with a minor problem like this. (It's minor enough that I'm still giving the total package 5 stars.)

If you're debating whether to buy this guitar, do it! I don't think you'll be dissapointed, and more than likely you'll be pleasantly amazed, as I am.

5-0 out of 5 stars Washburn's Little Brother Deserving Of Name & Reputation
If you have read the reviews I have written on my other OE30 and Kramer Focus, it is not a secret I am in no means a professional. I dabble, play a few chords and have had lessons when I was younger as well as classes in High School. I am now 38 and experiencing my second childhood. Seriously, I missed playing the guitar and wanted to re-learn how to play.

I am a cowboy and I love Country and Country Western Music. I also enjoy some jazz, some blues and some rock. After purchasing my Kramer Focus, I wanted a guitar that I could play with or without an amplifier. Acoustic/Electrics are nice, but I wanted more. While looking over the selections here on Amazon as well as Musician's Friend, I saw the Oscar Schmidt and could NOT believe the price! From the look, (and knowing Washburn's reputation), I KNEW this would be a quality guitar and well worth the money.

When I received the OE30, the shipping box was taller than I am and knew this was not going to be a small guitar. The OE 30 that I received was made in China. I unpacked the OE30 and was overwhelmed and in awe by the quality and size of the OE30!

The finish is flawless. The guitar has a sweet smell from the Mahogany neck and the maple body. The volume and tone knobs are smooth and have nice feel. The neck has an awesome feel and the fingerboard is easy to play chords even with short fingers like I have. The pickups can produce a warm deep mellow sound or a sharp rock growl. After tuning it up, (the guitar does come un-tuned), I played a few chords and was in awe at the sound that this guitar produced! With or without an amplifier, the OE30 has a sound that can and DOES rival the higher priced semi-hollows!

Washburn has always been one of the leading guitar manufacturers, but to produce a guitar of this quality and at the price it is sold at, is remarkable! The OE 30 is not only a quality guitar that is deserving of the Washburn name, but is also covered by the Lifetime Washburn Warranty.

The OE30 BLB I received did have a bent adjustment screw on the bridge, but I contacted Musician's Friend and they replaced the guitar, no question asked and within one week.

Since I bought my OE30 BLB, I have also purchased a Tobacco Sunburst OE30. I also learned that the OE30 is made in Indonesia as well as China. The Indonesian OE30 rivals the quality and sound of the Chinise OE30 and are both equally deserving of the Washburn name.

I highly recommend the Washburn Oscar Schmidt OE30. I can honestly say that the OE30's are with out a doubt and hands down my favorites. You get a quality guitar with remarkable sound, an awesome warranty at a price that you don't have to mortgage your house or sell body parts to afford.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Guitar for the price
This was my second Oscar Schmidt OE30 purchase. Previously I bought a Cherry model. While this certainly isn't the best guitar I ever purchased, it ranks up there with some of the $500 - $600 guitars I own. You really would be hard pressed to beat this axe on a "Bang for the Buck" basis.

This would make a fine first or second guitar for an older (15 and up) beginning player. It's a bit on the heavy side, which might be problematic for the younger beginner.

4-0 out of 5 stars Flippin' sweet

5-0 out of 5 stars Washburn's Little Brother Deserving Of Name & Reputation
I am by no means an expert guitar player. I used to play when I was younger and just recently decided to start playing again. I love Country Music, some Jazz, some Blues and some Rock. More Country Music than any of the others.

I previously purchased an Oscar Schmidt Blue Burst for myself and was so impressed I decided to buy a Tobacco Sunburst. When I received the Tobacco Sunburst, I noticed it was one made in Indonesia. I looked it over and it looked and felt like a real quality guitar. In some ways, it felt better than the Blue Burst I have that is made in China. After tuning it, I played a few chords with an amplifier and a few chords without. The sound it produced was REMARKABLE!!! This is NOT a cheap guitar! With or without an amplifier, this guitar has a sound that can give the best Gibson, Epiphone or Gretsch REAL competition!!!

The OE30 has two Washburn Series 400 Pickups that can produce a warm deep mellow sound or a sharp rock growl. The body is made of maple with a flawless finish. The neck is mahogany and has a good feel. The Grover Tuners are quality and have a good postive feel when tuning. The Tobacco Sunburst came with different strings than my Blue Burst. The strings are thicker and more like the strings on an acoustic. Playing it takes a tad more pressure, but the sound they produce is beyond belief!

For the price, you get an awesome guitar that rivals the more expensive semi-hollows. Don't let the fact it's made in Indonesia dissuade you from purchasing one. I will admit, there are flaws, but you have to look really, REALLY close to find any. This is a quality guitar that if properly cared for, could last a lifetime and will. Washburn also warranties the guitar to the original purchaser for life. (Read the Warranty for limitations).

If you want a semi-hollow guitar, consider the OE30. You will not be sorry. You will receive a quality guitar, a lifetime warranty and save money as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GreAT!
This guitar is great. It has extraordinary feeling to it much better than Fender.I would consider Gibson to be the "Ferrari" of guitars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Numero Uno
I suppose every musician has their favorite instrument. As string players, it is much easier for us to have multiple istruments than, say, a pianist. Well, my Gibson ES 335 is my number 1 (actually 1a...my 70s classic edition strat is 1b but that's another review). I feel as if I (re)built this thing from the ground up. The way Gibson shipped it from the factory was a disgrace. I almost sent it back. But I decided to do some work on it. I am glad I did. After replacing the bridge and replacing the stop bar and replacing the tuning machines and then spending a month messing with the truss bar and the bridge, I finally (gasp) nailed it. It plays like a dream. The hours just fly by. I have the antique natural and it is stunning. Only one complaint though. The binding on the top of the neck between the first and third fret is not completely flush, just as my Les Paul Elegant has a slight blemish on the binding down by the horn. Both are invisible from more than a foot away. I just look at it this way...it is a reminder that these babies are hand made. I have no idea why Memphis would release the guitar the way they did. But I am glad I didn't return it. I put so much time into this guitar that I feel it's part of me. And nothing on the planet sounds like a Gibson semi-hollowbody....NOTHING! ... Read more

I've had mine for almost two years and I just LOVE the tone! Absolutely love it! You have to be careful if you're playing with overdrive because there's a lot of feedback (it IS a hollowbody), but you can learn to control it, and man, this thing can pack a punch!

And then you can play it clean (I have an Ashdown Pacemaker 60 Head w/ Class A tubes and double 8-ohm Celstian speakers) and you feel like George Benson! This guitar is far more versatile than it looks, although you're not going to be playing metal or prog rock with it, obviously. If you're looking to do that, don't get this guitar. If you're looking for a powerful guitar that can play the sweetest of clean tones and can give you some major crunch if you need it, this is right up your alley.

Go to a store and play it along with other jazz guitars of higher expense. It can hold it's own, and it's $1000 less expensive. A highly recommended instrument. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Guitar, Great Price
I gotta say that I was incredibly suprised when I played this guitar. It's got a great weight and feel to it, heavy enough to be easy to handle when seated, and light enough to wanna get up and walk around with it. The neck has got a nice round feel to it, almost a little (For lack of a better word) chubby. For a 335 style guitar, this is gonna be the best you can get for your money. Simply a very elegant, classy looking guitar. It also comes in a nice vintage sunburst for those of you into the classic look. Unless you want to pay for a gibson 335, I'd suggest settling with this classy epiphone, it's not like anyone will be able to hear too much of a difference anyway. ... Read more
