Nice looking guitar
I love the guitar and espaclly the electric. I own 2 guitars myself but I am not a musican nor i do know how to play them but I have been since the dayof my brithday which falls April 1st. I go every Friday to a guy thats like only 10 mins away from me. They are only half hour lessions though which I think stinks. Anyhow one of the guitars I own is an electric. Its a Lion and its very nice. I got a 10 watt amp separte with it because it does bring one but its for the waist and after a while it can get on conforable. Anyhow. This electric guitar looks just wicked. Just out of this world. And if I keep up the good work and I do learn how to play perfessionaly I want to get one of these also. I thought for the most part what would keep me back fro learning guitar is learning music. But I am doing well so far and this friday. April 15th we are going to the second string. All I have to do is have faith and practice at home which I do. Bottom line is if I learn it I want to add to my collection of guitars a kramer Fouca VT-111S guiatr.I have not tried it so I am only going to give it 3 stars for now. Thank You.

a steal at this price
this package is great for beginners and any problem with strings falling off and the guitar not tuning with an auto tuner sounds more like a novice who doesnt know how to tune by ear or properly string his guitar and complaining about scratches on a 79 dollar guitar says it all besides idiot you can remove the plastic covering the pickguard so thats not scratches and most guitars dont even ship with strings heres the real deal u get a nice strat style guitar just as nice as the fender squier strats they make for 199 and u get a small amp and chord for 149 overall its a good deal the guitar alones worth 149 and u can always get a pedal to make the amp sound better but if you play heavy rock and metal you should just buy the kramer focus fatboy its $99 dollars its the same guitar with a humbucker instead of a single coil pickup and it plays and sounds great and you can get a refurbished yamaha 10 watt amp for $3999 its really loud for 10 watts and sounds good youll have a nice little setup for metal and rock and youll spend the same amount

Not worth the $30 you'll have to spend to send it back
After having read some reviews on other sites, I figured that it can't be such a bad guitar. I got it about a week later (Augest 28), and wow, was I proven wrong... The package is cursed. I started by trying out the guitar with the amp. It came horrible out of tune, and the amp emited horrid noices that cannot be considered music. I sat down, and figured that was only becouse the guitar was so out of tune. I used the tuner with the package, and the tuner does not tune. I could not get any string in tune in manual mode, and the auto made can't even tell the strings apart. After tuning it right (according to the tuner) I tried to play: two light strums, there go strings: two snaps immidiatly. I got angered, and began to inspect the guitar for everything else that might be wrong with it. Upon close inspection, I found scratches on the front, a cutout on the back of the guitar (having been cut out with a saw: I swear there were saw marks), and the paint comes of onto your finger from the frets like it was dust. By the end of my inspection, i got sick of even holding the guitar. It was too small for me (i would have perfered someting a bit bigger), and the included strap is very uncomfortable and rough. I put it back in the box and sent it back as soon as I got the RMA (thankfully, the customer servive was good).

Yamaha quality
Yamaha once again prove to the leader in making high quality beginner instruments from stringed instruments to wind instruments. This basswood strat-style guitar offers the player humbucking pickups and single-coil pickups for awide array of sounds AND a free-floating tremelo. The neck offers adjustments at the headstock which makes set-up much easier for more efficient playing. Hardware is what you would expect for a beginner instrument, but the beauty here is once this guitar has outlived its initial usefulness, the once-beginning guitarist may overhaul it completly to make it satisfy the new needs of an intermediate shredder. Basswood is a high quality tonewood and the bolt-on neck option makes it possible to give new life to this beast for just a couple-hundred dollars should the beginner wear out the original neck. The tremelo will only last for several yaers depending on playing time and wear and tear, but alas, this can be replaced with a professional quality trem. My 1985 equivilent Yamaha SE250 has recently been overhauled to a tight little shredding unit complete with Wilkerson trem. A $100 Carvin neck made this little number fly again and fly high, too boot. The amp just sucks however, but it gets the job done initially. If you're a parent, get used to spending money for your child's instruments. If you find yourself spending more every few years, more than likely your kid is improving and one day will thank you whole-heartily for supporting one of the most satisfying abilities one can ever learn. How to play an instrument. If you're a working adult with a knowledge of guitar instruments and wish to learn guitar, suck it up and spend at least $300 on a guitar only and buy an amp seperately. For junior just starting out, this is the way to go.

yamaha makes superior music instruments
i have an acoustic as well as an electric guitar. when i was a teenager and i could not afford to buy my own guitar, i used played with fenders and ibanez and washburns and gibsons and starocasters, nothing really compares to a yamaha. yamaha is the best there ever is. now that i could afford to buy anything, i will only give the best to my sons, yamaha pianos, drums, of course guitars.

Yamaha is SOLID
I've had this guitar for over a year and it has served me well, except for the input jack plate(plastic) which easily broke off after setting it down on a hardwood floor. I highly recommend the first mod you make to this guitar, if you want to call it that, is to replace the factory input jack plate(note, just the plastic outside plate, but you can replace the jack itself if desired) so that you won't have the same problem as me, I find myself soldering the wires to the input jack just because I didn't do this before I snapped the wiring. Getting back to the review, the guitar is awesome, very solid and comparable to a stratocaster. This EG112 Yamaha guitar blows the Fender SQUIRE out of the water, with much faster action, and two screamin pickups, one being a humbucker which you can easily switch between to get that echoes jimmy page sound or crunchy jimi hendrix sound. Granted, you will need pedals to assist you and perhaps a decent amp. But actually I like this amp, it makes a GREAT PRACTICE AMP, but will not get any louder than your average hardheaded drummer. It gets decent distortion, and does the trick for practicing and showing your friends a cool new riff. The only trouble I had with mine was a blown fuse, which was an easy 5 minute fix, it's a little smaller than a car fuse so you might have to go to osh to find one or rummage through your garage, like I did. But overall, this guitar should last you as long as you want it to. I don't take very good care of mine, and it's still in perfect working order after a year and a half of abuse, knock on wood. In order to keep the neck straight, buy a guitar stand for 15$, this is a must, don't lean it against your wall. Most importantly, have fun, and I've gotten nothing but praise for this 200$ gem from all kinds of guitar players, I paid 100$ with the amp open box so go figure). Very good strong guitar.
I bought one of these thinking it would be a peice of junk. But it is very sturdy and it sounds good. the best part is it comes with evrything you need. picks, Amp,extra strings,Quik-Tuner,Wammy Bar,case,cable,shoulder strap. this guitar rocks. but if you want a louder amp you may want to upgrade but it still sounds really good. and it stays in tune for ever.
i recommend this guitar for begginers and advanced. but the price here is a bit high. but if you go to Sportsmensguide.com you can get it for 50 bucks cheaper.

High Quality & Great Value

This was the first guitar I got and started me in the right direction. This is a well made guitar and plays great. If your a beginner I recommend this one to get. have you ever heard of a guitar company called ION?!
i bought this guitar and i was very happy with it as i knew nothing about guitars, i then compared this to other guitars like fender, gibson and ibanez and i was shocked. I have been playing guitar for 3 years now and i am now a proud owner of a gibson les paul. This guitar has no tone, it doesn't give you the feel other guitars give you. The pickups are lifeless, the tone and volume controls get wobbly after a few touches and the 5-way selector feels cheap. The amp is ok for starters but the lead that comes with it makes a horrible buzzing sound which gets higher when you put on distortion and turn the volume up, so aslong as you buy a new cable the amp should be ok.

If you really want a guitar worth your money at this price then go for a fender squier strat which has just about everything this pack has but the guitar and amp are so much better, even if the amp is 10-WATT on the fender and its 15-WATT on the ion version, the fender sounds so much more lively ... Would be a five if it wasn't misleading
After successfully playing the piano for 8 years, it was time to move on to another instrument.What better than another classic: the guitar?Piano lessons were expensive with a private tutor.I didn't think it'd be any different with guitar.So I decided to save some money and buy a whole pack instead of a guitar and some books.This was the only one I could find and it looked promising.Within two days (4 hours spread out) I went through 43 lessons (3 chapters) (out of a total of 165 lessons, in a total of 11 chapters).The first 20 lessons or so are nothing special.You learn about the guitar, how to tune (which you need to do), string the guitar (it's done for you already), a few basic chords, and some lessons on how to read basic tablature.Seems boring, but by about lesson 41 you will have learned some nice folk songs.The chapters are organized as follows: learn a new technique(s) and some new chord(s), play a song(s) using those chords and previous ones, and a couple of quizzes to test your memorization of chords and ability to move smoothly from one to another (this is obviously crucial).And in the chapters you'll get some other miscellaneous info.The instructor is very good.Within each lesson there are usually a couple of audio clips with commentary on the lesson, a video from the instructor, and a midi recording of what you are about to do in the lesson (learn a technique, chord, song, etc..)These midi clips can be slowed down or sped up, according to learning pace.The instructor emphasizes the need to master each lesson before moving on, or you'll get frustrated (he's right).The good thing about this whole pack is it lets you go at your own pace, isn't pushy, doesn't all of a sudden go into info you never learned; it builds only on previous info so you won't be left guessing as to what is going on.The contents are well organized and you can always go back and redo any lesson you want.

For beginners (those with little or no previous musical experience): this is definitely a good start for those with little money to risk on tutors and a professional guitar. Thus the guitar is an average one, definitely not professional.It's a nice way to test whether or not you're extremely, but just temporarily, passionate about playing the guitar, without risking a lot of money.At first it might seem pointless, and a beginner might give up frustrated, or think that they'll never be able to play well, but eventually this pack will make you see the fruit of your labor by teaching you songs (makes you feel like it's worth your time, also the pack provides links to online notation of many popular artists, so you can learn your favorite artist).While you're playing these songs, you can either follow along using the notes, or you can look at the animated fretboard.I haven't once looked at the animated fretboard, but I'd think for beginners this would be easier.BUT, in the end you won't have an animated fretboard with you!So might as well learn right, right away!
For experienced musicians: If you're an experienced guitar player, I'm not sure why you're reading this.Otherwise, for all you other musicians willing to learn a new instrument I guarantee if you were serious and successful with your previous instrument(s), and you are serious about learning the guitar you will find this worthwhile.You won't be prone to give up, and you'll know the troubles of learning a new instrument, thus you'll understand it's pain and sacrifice, but really worth it in the end.Learning the guitar will be even easier for those with experience in playing string instruments or the piano.The finger movement skills you've already learned will make your life much easier in learning the guitar.As for myself, I will truly say (as will other guitar playing pianists), learning and playing the guitar, is much easier than the piano (plus it's easier to carry around with you to entertain others).
Now, this pack isn't all good news.It isn't false advertising, but it is kind of skewed.I thought, when buying this, I'd be getting a real metronome and tuner.It turns out they're on the CD!You need to have a microphone to tune the guitar (for previous musicians with a good ear tuning is a breeze without any technology).And the metronome, obviously, can only be used on a computer.Also, I will take up issue with this and hopefully it was just a mistake, I didn't get an extra set of steel strings!On the box it is advertised as having a guitar with strings, and on a sticker it claims there are EXTRA strings inside the box (interestingly this sticker is missing in the picture Amazon provides), which I have searched for and can't find (there's little to look through)! Also, for whatever reason.Over the last two months I've seen this pack (on Amazon) go from $99.99 to its current price of $131.99.It must be getting popular. Thus, because of this skewed advertising, I can only give a four. Hope this review helps.

Nice but mine had issues
I received my player pack about a week ago.Everything was included in the pack and "seemed" great.I got the Sunburst pattern and the guitar looks really nice.The amp and the rest of the gear was all good for the price.The problem was that when I tuned the guitar I had to raise the bridge way too much to get rid of some buzzing from the fret bars.Even after that I still got the buzzing when I played vigorously.Also I could feel the edges of the fret bars on the neck which I think means that the wood of the neck had shrunk and probably warped a little (sitting in a warehouse too long maybe). I chose to repair these issues instead of returning the guitar.I like it very much and I doubt that getting another pack at the same price point would get me any more quality. If my experience was not the norm then I would give this pack a 4 or 5.

The warped neck was unrepairable by the epiphone dealer in my area.They sent it back (warranty) and I got a NEW Epiphone "Dot Studio" as a replacement because it would have been 90 day till they could replace it with a similar model.I really like the "Dot Studio" and it is a nice upgrade.
