4-0 out of 5 stars Kramer Focus VT111S - The $75 (or less) Guitar That KICKS!
At first hearing about these things I, like many others, thought "how good can a $75 guitar be?"; then I got one.

I'll tell you, VERY nice (XL)strings, great neck, no fret buzz, and great body/finish. I played it without an amp at first and couldn't believe the action on it. Then I plugged it in.

Basically, it sounds just like a Fender Strat, only it feels a little nicer and plays a little better. I also then plugged it into my V-Amp 2 ... My GOD, it's freakin' sa-weet!

I HIGHLY recommend it for a guitar for open mic nights, kids and beginners, intermediate players, or just to mess around with.

As Chris B says;
"If you're willing to spend $300 on a guitar, consider buying a few of these. Hell, you could get 4 of them. One in each color. For the money, there's nothing better available. Nothing at least that I've seen."

PS: I got the VT111S during the holidays, it cost $74.99US in SunBurst; it's purdy!
I've never played a "cheap" guitar that was so good; in fact, I'm collecting the other colors now!
Forget the negative things others say about this guitar, it's WORTH the money; believe me!

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
Yes, you can't expect much from an $80 guitar. But there is a line that can be crossed in terms of poor quality. Basically, this instrument is unplayable. Doesn't stay in tune for more than 10 minutes, horrid fret buz, the high E string gets caught beneath the final fret, etc. etc. Do yourself a favor, wait a couple of weeks, save up some more money and buy the next cheapest thing -- it's bound to be better. A disservice to beginners, an insult to more advanced players. You've been warned.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Price and Service, but Requires Set Up
I got this guitar for my daughter for X-mas.(Actually, they had over sold the black-body model and so I got the seafoam green at no additional charge.)The paint is great, it looks very nice and sounds good with the exception of what I would call excessive fret buzz on the high E and B strings.I adusted the height of the saddle for these strings (instructions are not provide with the guitar, but are available on the web from a number of sources). Also, when it arrived, the strings were rusty.I contacted Music Yo via email and they told me just to wipe them down.I'm not this hot-shot guitar player, but as I understand it, once strings go rusty, they need replaced.I may be wrong about this, but replacement strings were not offered in any event. The guitar stays in tune pretty wel, but I do have to tune it with some regularity.

I've seen the guitar compared with the Fender Squire series.I haven't played one of those, so I can't comment on playablity, but this guitar looks better than the Squire.

With the exception of the string issue, Music Yo did a good job on its end.The guitar arrived quickly and undamaged. The shipping cost was very reasonable.

Overall, I give this guitar a positive rating, but the fret buzz and the rusty strings certainly disappointed me, especially with what otherwise was a very nice guitar. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great bang for your buck.
I bought this Evo because I wanted a cheap non tremelo guitar around to play with alternative tunings, and I really like the looks of it. My other guitars are a Fender Strat and a Fender Lead 1, both equipped with Floyd Rose systems so the Evo was a nice change of pace.

On to the guitar! The first thing I noticed was the weight. At 5.75 lbs. it's probably the lightest guitar I've ever played. Right out of the box it wasn't set up, which didn't really surprise me for a $100 guitar. After setting up the guitar (adjusting the bridge and truss rod) it turned out to be a very nice player. The stock pickups sound great and the solid mahogany body has decent sustain. The good tone surprised me considering how light it is. I have only one complaint. The cheap tuning keys. They're cheap and it's obvious when you turn them and feel varying amounts of play from each of them. That being said, they seem to stay in tune pretty well. The bottom line is that the Evo is an EXCELLENT value! The only thing keeping it from getting 5 stars are the tuning keys. I would highly recommend this guitar to beginners as a first electric or experienced guitarists who want something cheap to play around on. The guitar should be set up properly for best results. If you don't know how to do it, take it to your local guitar shop and pay to have it done.

Enjoy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the best guitar ever
I think that my kramer candy apple red guitar is the best! everything is perfect the strings, the sound, the shape you name it is the best guitar ever and I know guitars and i'm only ten.All my friends really like It to you should use it for advertisement. I think amazon.com is the best place to shop!

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite Guitar.
The price is amazing, for the tone and fun you get with a guitar like this. I sit all day playing it. It is a strat style guitar, and although I prefer SG types, this is a lot of fun, and out of all the 8 guitars I own, this is my favorite.

2-0 out of 5 stars GAG!
I will have to agree with the first reviewer this guitar does have great action. But Everything else about it sucks, espically since its a strat style guitar you can only get 2 out of 5 pickup positions without fret buzz.Save your self some time and get an ESP!

4-0 out of 5 stars Cannot be beat for the money!
My favorite guitar in my humble collection. The best guitar under $150 you can buy.

Don't expect great tuners, and the tremolo's only good, but not great. And you're well advised to replace the stock strings and adjust the bridge before you play the unit for the first time.

Do expect very good sounding, hot pickups, smooth five-position pickup selection, solid electronics, and best of all, outstanding action from a beautifully finished instrument. The Kramer Focus beats cheap Squiers & Epiphone's hands down. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice 1st Guitar
This is a great guitar to learn the basics on. I have owned a LP2 for a year and I have nothing bad to say about it. The guitar stays in tune and has a solid construction. This guitar is well worth the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet little guitar for any player
I picked up one of these babies about 6 months ago to use as my "travel" guitar, and it has yet to let me down.Granted, the day I got it, I changed out the pickups with a DiMarzio Double Whammy in the bridge and a Virtual PAF in the neck, so I can't tell you much about the sound from the factory electronics. However, the guitar plays wonderfully. The only irritant was that, in order to get perfect intonation in Eb tuning (one half-step below standard tuning on all six strings), I had to reverse one of the saddles.

Otherwise, no complaints whatsoever -- it came from the factory with the truss perfectly set, and it only took minor tweaks to the action and a slight shim for the neck (I'm obsessive when it comes to fast action on my guitars), and I was shredding away in no time. This is an excellent guitar for a beginner, or, if you're a more advanced player in search of some vintage looks on a budget, this is right up your alley.Get a new set of pickups -- EMGs, Seymour Duncans, or DiMarzios will work great -- and you've got looks AND tone.Just don't expect that solid mahogany-body sustain you'd get from a real LP -- this one's plywood.Agathis.Tonewood.Whatever Epiphone's buzzword of the week happens to be.

Bottom line: for $150, you can't go wrong with this guitar.Out of all the guitars I own, I keep coming back to this one.Of course, unlike your average Jackson or B.C. Rich, the Les Paul body design doesn't have any pointy things to dig into one's crotch... That might have a bit to do with it as well. Are you still reading this? Just buy it already! ... Read more

Fitted with 6 guitar strings, 13 sympathetic drone strings, and a buzzing Gotoh bridge, its guitar-like scale and neck couple familiar feel with the exotic tone of the traditional Indian instrument. All 3 pickups (including the sympathetic-string pickup) have independent tone and volume controls. A great axe for re-creating those psychedelic chestnuts of the '60s and for getting into modern world fusion styles. How to tune the sympathetic strings: The gauge of the sympathetic strings is .010. and a harp wrench is used for the tuning process. Traditional Tuning: The longest and lowest string is tuned an octave above the high E of a standard tuned guitar. From there the strings are tuned in half steps. This is just a starting point and experimentation can yield some beautiful sounds. Another great tuning is to use a "dropped D" tuning (dropping the 6th E string down a full step to D) on the guitar neck; then the sympathetic strings would be tuned to a D7sus chord as follows (longest string to shortest string):D - same note as 1st string of the guitar neck fretted at the 10th fret (the 1st string is tuned to standard E) F# - ascending G - ascending A - ascending C - ascending A - ascending G - ascending F# - ascending G - ascending A - ascending C - ascending D - ascending D - same as previous note ... Product Description

Kramer and MusicYo are proud to introduce the latest addition to the USA Collection⦠The Kramer USA "Jersey Star" Reissue electric guitar. A faithful reissue of the famous Kramer electric guitar originally introduced in 1986 as part of the Artist Series. But, unlike some of the production guitars, this vintage reissue incorporates some unique, one-of-a-kind features consistent with the artist's original guitar. They are: Hard Maple Fingerboard (production = very few produced, maple was optional), Real Mother of Pearl "Star" inlays on body and neck with black outline (production = no black outline), Pearloid Tuner Buttons (production = gold tuner buttons), and Standard size cover plate (production = large back cavity cover plate). As stated in the accompanying advertisement, when designing this guitar three major requirements had to be met. They were: 1) straight rock and roll sound; 2) smooth professional construction and; 3) a striking stage presence. With the new Jersey Star, Kramer has once again met these requirements and created a truly great instrument with a timeless '80's vibe. Special thanks goes out to Mike at www.VintageKramer.com and John Montaperto for all their help in making this possible. ... Read more

Wow, for the price its impossible not to give this guitar a 5 star rating. This is better than most of those $500 guitars that try to have a nice shape. The design was what caught my eye at the guitar shop, and than i saw the price.
