2-0 out of 5 stars have you ever heard of a guitar company called ION?!
i bought this guitar and i was very happy with it as i knew nothing about guitars, i then compared this to other guitars like fender, gibson and ibanez and i was shocked. I have been playing guitar for 3 years now and i am now a proud owner of a gibson les paul. This guitar has no tone, it doesn't give you the feel other guitars give you. The pickups are lifeless, the tone and volume controls get wobbly after a few touches and the 5-way selector feels cheap. The amp is ok for starters but the lead that comes with it makes a horrible buzzing sound which gets higher when you put on distortion and turn the volume up, so aslong as you buy a new cable the amp should be ok.

If you really want a guitar worth your money at this price then go for a fender squier strat which has just about everything this pack has but the guitar and amp are so much better, even if the amp is 10-WATT on the fender and its 15-WATT on the ion version, the fender sounds so much more lively ... Product Description

Kramer and MusicYo are proud to introduce the latest addition to the USA Collection⦠The Kramer USA "Jersey Star" Reissue electric guitar. A faithful reissue of the famous Kramer electric guitar originally introduced in 1986 as part of the Artist Series. But, unlike some of the production guitars, this vintage reissue incorporates some unique, one-of-a-kind features consistent with the artist's original guitar. They are: Hard Maple Fingerboard (production = very few produced, maple was optional), Real Mother of Pearl "Star" inlays on body and neck with black outline (production = no black outline), Pearloid Tuner Buttons (production = gold tuner buttons), and Standard size cover plate (production = large back cavity cover plate). As stated in the accompanying advertisement, when designing this guitar three major requirements had to be met. They were: 1) straight rock and roll sound; 2) smooth professional construction and; 3) a striking stage presence. With the new Jersey Star, Kramer has once again met these requirements and created a truly great instrument with a timeless '80's vibe. Special thanks goes out to Mike at www.VintageKramer.com and John Montaperto for all their help in making this possible. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Would be a five if it wasn't misleading
After successfully playing the piano for 8 years, it was time to move on to another instrument. What better than another classic: the guitar?Piano lessons were expensive with a private tutor.I didn't think it'd be any different with guitar. So I decided to save some money and buy a whole pack instead of a guitar and some books. This was the only one I could find and it looked promising.Within two days (4 hours spread out) I went through 43 lessons (3 chapters) (out of a total of 165 lessons, in a total of 11 chapters). The first 20 lessons or so are nothing special. You learn about the guitar, how to tune (which you need to do), string the guitar (it's done for you already), a few basic chords, and some lessons on how to read basic tablature.Seems boring, but by about lesson 41 you will have learned some nice folk songs. The chapters are organized as follows: learn a new technique(s) and some new chord(s), play a song(s) using those chords and previous ones, and a couple of quizzes to test your memorization of chords and ability to move smoothly from one to another (this is obviously crucial). And in the chapters you'll get some other miscellaneous info. The instructor is very good.Within each lesson there are usually a couple of audio clips with commentary on the lesson, a video from the instructor, and a midi recording of what you are about to do in the lesson (learn a technique, chord, song, etc..)These midi clips can be slowed down or sped up, according to learning pace. The instructor emphasizes the need to master each lesson before moving on, or you'll get frustrated (he's right). The good thing about this whole pack is it lets you go at your own pace, isn't pushy, doesn't all of a sudden go into info you never learned; it builds only on previous info so you won't be left guessing as to what is going on.The contents are well organized and you can always go back and redo any lesson you want.
Here are the chapters:
Intro
1- About the guitar
2- Simple chords and strumming
3- More chords and accented strumming
4- Slash chords and chord progressions
5- Rock style strumming and power chords
6- Playing the blues
7- Modern rock and movable power chords
8- Reading tablature and playing melodies
9- Bass note strums with country tunes
10- Fingerpicking: Arpeggio and Travis styles
11- Reading standard music notation

What is included:
Steel string guitar (strings on it)
Guitar method CD
Guitar straps
Screwdriver (the type provided when you buy furniture)
Black bag for the guitar
One pick
Registration info (you can do this online as well)
E-media promotion brochure

For beginners (those with little or no previous musical experience): this is definitely a good start for those with little money to risk on tutors and a professional guitar. Thus the guitar is an average one, definitely not professional. It's a nice way to test whether or not you're extremely, but just temporarily, passionate about playing the guitar, without risking a lot of money. At first it might seem pointless, and a beginner might give up frustrated, or think that they'll never be able to play well, but eventually this pack will make you see the fruit of your labor by teaching you songs (makes you feel like it's worth your time, also the pack provides links to online notation of many popular artists, so you can learn your favorite artist). While you're playing these songs, you can either follow along using the notes, or you can look at the animated fretboard.I haven't once looked at the animated fretboard, but I'd think for beginners this would be easier.BUT, in the end you won't have an animated fretboard with you!So might as well learn right, right away!
For experienced musicians: If you're an experienced guitar player, I'm not sure why you're reading this.Otherwise, for all you other musicians willing to learn a new instrument I guarantee if you were serious and successful with your previous instrument(s), and you are serious about learning the guitar you will find this worthwhile. You won't be prone to give up, and you'll know the troubles of learning a new instrument, thus you'll understand it's pain and sacrifice, but really worth it in the end.Learning the guitar will be even easier for those with experience in playing string instruments or the piano. The finger movement skills you've already learned will make your life much easier in learning the guitar. As for myself, I will truly say (as will other guitar playing pianists), learning and playing the guitar, is much easier than the piano (plus it's easier to carry around with you to entertain others).
Now, this pack isn't all good news.It isn't false advertising, but it is kind of skewed.I thought, when buying this, I'd be getting a real metronome and tuner. It turns out they're on the CD!You need to have a microphone to tune the guitar (for previous musicians with a good ear tuning is a breeze without any technology). And the metronome, obviously, can only be used on a computer. Also, I will take up issue with this and hopefully it was just a mistake, I didn't get an extra set of steel strings! On the box it is advertised as having a guitar with strings, and on a sticker it claims there are EXTRA strings inside the box (interestingly this sticker is missing in the picture Amazon provides), which I have searched for and can't find (there's little to look through)! Also, for whatever reason.Over the last two months I've seen this pack (on Amazon) go from $99.99 to its current price of $131.99.It must be getting popular. Thus, because of this skewed advertising, I can only give a four. Hope this review helps.

4-0 out of 5 stars shockingly nice
for 99 bucks your get areally nice looking playing guitar with nice action good sounding pickups and it seems pretty sturdy i didnt give it 5 stars because 1 of the neck pickups doesnt work but i had problems with fed ex getting my order lost so i blame it on that if you get yours with the neck pickup working u just got a great heavy metal guitar similar to other brands guitars that cost 200-300 dollars onnly its 99 bucks a steal

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Guitar, Fantastic Price
This was my first guitar and for the price, it blows any other Strat copy away. But that is not to say it is without it's problems; fret buzz is a bit of a problem and is diffucult to solve even by raising the action and adjusting the truss rod, the lower tone pot is useless but this is case on most inexpensive guitars of this style, and finally the guitar has trouble staying in tune, this can be solved by adding locking tuners or if your are gung-ho about this axe a locking tremolo. The pickups sound great, the guitar is not that heavy, and the finish (mine was sunburst) was beautiful, if you are looking for a first guitar, overlook the Squiers and other cheap guitars and cut your teeth on this axe.

4-0 out of 5 stars a steal
this guitar is amazing for $100 it looks and plays like a 300 dollar guitar because it is one kramer a fairly popular brand in the 80s(eddie van halen had 1) are back in buisness this guitar is a 300 dollar refurbished guitar being sold for 100! it has great action and a nice buzz free sound the neck the body everything seems quality built its humbucker sounds great playing metal it stays in tune well it has a nice finish on the black and white model and its nicer than my ibanez s series i paid 220 for ive never seen a 100 dollar guitar this nice or even 200 ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Nice but mine had issues
I received my player pack about a week ago.Everything was included in the pack and "seemed" great.I got the Sunburst pattern and the guitar looks really nice. The amp and the rest of the gear was all good for the price. The problem was that when I tuned the guitar I had to raise the bridge way too much to get rid of some buzzing from the fret bars.Even after that I still got the buzzing when I played vigorously. Also I could feel the edges of the fret bars on the neck which I think means that the wood of the neck had shrunk and probably warped a little (sitting in a warehouse too long maybe). I chose to repair these issues instead of returning the guitar.I like it very much and I doubt that getting another pack at the same price point would get me any more quality. If my experience was not the norm then I would give this pack a 4 or 5.
**UPDATE
The warped neck was unrepairable by the epiphone dealer in my area. They sent it back (warranty) and I got a NEW Epiphone "Dot Studio" as a replacement because it would have been 90 day till they could replace it with a similar model.I really like the "Dot Studio" and it is a nice upgrade. So I got a really nice deal in the end. ... Read more

Fitted with 6 guitar strings, 13 sympathetic drone strings, and a buzzing Gotoh bridge, its guitar-like scale and neck couple familiar feel with the exotic tone of the traditional Indian instrument. All 3 pickups (including the sympathetic-string pickup) have independent tone and volume controls. A great axe for re-creating those psychedelic chestnuts of the '60s and for getting into modern world fusion styles. How to tune the sympathetic strings: The gauge of the sympathetic strings is .010. and a harp wrench is used for the tuning process. Traditional Tuning: The longest and lowest string is tuned an octave above the high E of a standard tuned guitar. From there the strings are tuned in half steps. This is just a starting point and experimentation can yield some beautiful sounds. Another great tuning is to use a "dropped D" tuning (dropping the 6th E string down a full step to D) on the guitar neck; then the sympathetic strings would be tuned to a D7sus chord as follows (longest string to shortest string):D - same note as 1st string of the guitar neck fretted at the 10th fret (the 1st string is tuned to standard E) F# - ascending G - ascending A - ascending C - ascending A - ascending G - ascending F# - ascending G - ascending A - ascending C - ascending D - ascending D - same as previous note ...
