Hand-crafted Beauty
I have recently received an enlighting education about Hamer USA handmade guitars. After being gifted a 1982 Hamer studio model, thinking it was some "off brand" I began research on the internet finding that it takes four months to hand-craft each Hamer USA guitar. The hondouras mahognay body and neck make for a very resonant sustained sound. The hardware is top of the line and the sound can vary from a "fat" holly body jazz guitar to a hot screaming powerfull rocker. Good Guitar, Great Price
I gotta say that I was incredibly suprised when I played this guitar. It's got a great weight and feel to it, heavy enough to be easy to handle when seated, and light enough to wanna get up and walk around with it. The neck has got a nice round feel to it, almost a little (For lack of a better word) chubby. For a 335 style guitar, this is gonna be the best you can get for your money. Simply a very elegant, classy looking guitar. It also comes in a nice vintage sunburst for those of you into the classic look. Unless you want to pay for a gibson 335, I'd suggest settling with this classy epiphone, it's not like anyone will be able to hear too much of a difference anyway. ... Read more

Now THIS is a real starter kit.
Lookit this thing. I wish this was around when I got my first guitar package back in 1999. I don't actually have this set, but I've used everything included here, so you can take my word for all of it. The Monterey X guitar is a high quality guitar for a beginner. This sucker has great tone that isn't just for rockers, but it also sounds jazzish. It's far superior than Lotus, Ibanez, Fender, and even Jackson models. Unlike some brands that just assemble the beginner guitars quickly and don't put any effort into making sure they're made with care, Fernandes treats each and every instrument with respect. I don't work for them, but they're my second favorite brand, only behind Gibson. I've had a Revolver Pro with the sustainer system since 2000 and haven't had a single problem. The strings aren't put in a Floyd Rose, which makes it a lot easier to replace them, and the pickups are above average which is a huge plus. And also, all Fernandes guitars are huge on volume. So you can barely adjust the volume knob and get pure sound out of it. Just be careful not to go nuts with the amp. Of which is 15 watts. This is perfect for starters. You can take it around with you without any hassle, and it delivers heavy sound for such a little guy. Trust me, all small Fernandes amps can boom through the walls in a house even if tvs or stereos are on. If you're getting this set for your son or daughter, don't worry. The sound will shock them and teach them to turn it down a little bit.

Also included are a good bag (this thing usually goes for at least $40 on other music sites), a strap, picks, guitar-to-amp cable, some useless CD-ROM and a tuner. A TUNER INCLUDED HERE. Again, I wish this was around when I was starting out, as that's a great deal. Tuners are getting more spendy these days. What I said about the CD-ROM, I still stick by that. Music programs for computers or even tutorial videos don't get you that far. When I got my first guitar, it came with some "how to" book. I looked at that thing, almost passed out when I saw the music notes and no lesson on how to read them, then sold it to some kid in the same music store right then for eight bucks. If you're starting out as a musician, have a song in mind that you want to learn, then just look up the tab for it. It's that easy. All you have to do is know the rythm and you can play anything. Though that's not really talent, as anyone can play something someone else played (unless it's a BucketHead solo of course). The real talent is in making your own riffs and solos. And I doubt any beginner program mentions that.

All in all, get this package as a starter set. The price is mind-blowing and you couldn't really do any better. Squire, Ibanez, Epiphone and Rogue have starter packages, but those are all just laughable. Fernandes is the real deal. So unless Gibson somehow makes an affordable package, this is your best bet. My only gripe is the lack of an option to choose what color you want. ... Read more
