Slightly different than most K-series rides
This cymbal is a little brighter than the normally dryer K-series, and has a bit more volume and faster decay than other K rides.

What I like is the fact that this cymbal has the same warm, complex tones while adding some cut and volume, as well as superb stick definition. I also like the fact that this cymbal crashes as well as it rides, and has a clear, cutting bell.

While I love my Avedis series 20" ping ride and older 22" ride, if I could only use a single cymbal this one would be it because it does ride and crash beautifully.It's perfect for jazz and fusion, and would even be a great left-side crash/ride for rock. ... Read more

The way Zildjian made cymbals in the past
This is a classic ride, designed for jazz, and is nearly identical to my circa late 60s Avedis Zildjian 22" ride in sound.

The overtones are complex and fed by a seemingly unending sustain. This cymbal would not fit into a rock groove, but shines with traditional jazz.Listen to some of Joe Morello's work with the Dave Brubeck Quartet and you'll get a good sense of what this cymbal sounds like.

I've played this cymbal on sets and I'm tempted to sell my precious 22" ride and get one of these, but the older Avedis just seems to improve with age, so I won't.

As a side note, while I dearly love this cymbal, my absolute favorite ride is the 19" Zildjian Armand Signature Ride (ASIN B0002GFNF4).If you are considering this cymbal give the Armand Signature a look (and play) first before making a final decision. ... Read more

The best cymbal I own
Among my three favorite cymbals - a circa late 60s 22" Avedis ride and 20" Avedis sizzle - this one stands out as my absolute favorite.

It has a slight wash from the three-rivet cluster, and the same warm, rich overtones as my 22" ride, but also can produce a relatively high definition ping when playing fast tempo jazz.Although I rarely play rock, this cymbal would make an excellent second ride for texture for drummers who play that genre.

Consistent, traditional Avedis sound
I spent a few hours on this cymbal to compare it to my circa late 60s Avedis Zildjian 22" ride and was amazed by the way this new cymbal matched my vintage one in exact sound and performance.

It has a nice wash of subtle overtones, yet a high definition ping. It is apparent that Zildjian is using the same alloys and techniques to make this one that they used when they made my vintage cymbal, which is well over 30 years old.

If you play jazz this cymbal will give you a distinct, traditional sound when playing triplets. In fact, having played on Sabians and Paistes I can say with confidence that for traditional jazz Zildjian has a distinct edge in getting the right sound, and this cymbal is one you should invest in. ...
