Great for R&B and jazz
If you've never played on a sizzle before it takes some getting used to because of the sustain.However, it is an essential sound in R&B and some jazz, especially for slower tempo using triplets.

This particular model sounds identical to my 30+ year old Avedis Zildjian 20" - even the sustain is the same.Do not expect a lot of definition from this (or any other sizzle) because they were designed for a drawn out washy sound with slightly less than moderate definition.

If you're unsure about getting a sizzle, a great compromise is the 19" Zildjian Armand Signature Ride (ASIN B0002GFNF4).That cymbal has a three-rivet cluster near the edge, but has higher definition and less sustain and wash.I have both the Armand and regular sizzle models, so there is a difference in tone and texture these cymbals produce. ... Not a toy
I'm frequently asked to recommend a good beginner's drum kit, and this is the one I recommend for youngsters in the 3-10 year range.My reasons are:

- this kit is constructed to be a serious instrument, unlike the toy quality of most junior kits.It sounds like a real drum kit, and it plays like one, albeit a scaled down one.

- the hardware, including the ever important bass drum and high-hat pedals, is solid.Believe me, nothing is more frustrating to any drummer, young or old, than pedals that stick or bind.The ones that come with this kit work well and will withstand a lot of abuse.

- sound quality of each of the drums is impressive. These drums sound like their larger counterparts, so the young drummer can easily develop his or her own sound on this kit, and retain it when they outgrow it and move to a bigger kit.

The only thing wrong with this kit - and it is universal among all junior kits - is the poor quality cymbals.To Verve's credit they did make sure that the cymbal sizes where proporational to the drums.

This kit is also available in red (ASIN B0002JFXOW) and blue (ASIN B0002FOJPU).

I strongly recommend getting a copy of "Getting Started on Drums Featuring Tommy Igoe" (ASIN B00005UV69) to go with this (or any other) kit. Zildjian and Bill Stewart, you have given birth to a gem!
I just got this ride and it is amazing. It has such a wonderfully expansive sonic pallete. This is a very versatile ride, not in the sense that it can be used in many different styles though.

This ride is versatile in itself. Elvin Jones could get twenty different sounds from just one ride cymbal. I shudder to think of the number of sounds he could get from this cymbal.

This cymbal is dry, wet, raw and aggressive, yet sensitive and delicate all together. The stick definition is very dry but this cymbal has plenty of wash and spread. The crash is very similar to the nastiness of a china.

If you are looking for a light cymbal that sounds like the beauty of a K Constantinople crossed with an A China Trash, get this cymbal. I have yet to get a chance to really lay into this cymbal on a gig, but I can't wait to.
