5-0 out of 5 stars Great Turntable From Technics
As an owner of two of these SL-BD22's, one of which I have had for over ten years, I can honestly say this turntable is one of the best moderately priced, belt-driven turntables out there. As turntable fans know, Technics is among the best out there today.I bought my first as an open-boxed buy at Sears ten years ago and have not had a problem with it since. There is nothing that feels cheap about this table, unlike other lower-priced brands. The tonearm is weighted at the factory, with the ideal tracking force of 1.25 grams.Keep that in mind when you go to buy a cartridge, as it does not come with one.I have not heard any buzzing or static, as stated by other reviewers.Just make sure you hook up the ground properly. The pitch adjustment is nice, but really not needed for home use.Don't expect to mix or scratch, as this is belt-driven.Just a side note:The second one I bought I found at a garage sale. The previous owner said that the speed was not accurate, as it was not steady.I determined it was the motor, ordered it from Panasonic's website, installed it, and it works like new.

All in all, this is a great turntable and I would reccomend it to anyone who was looking for a good, home-use turntable.

4-0 out of 5 stars good
I ordered this unit from Amazon and am very happy with it.I have no experience with any other turntables. This unit is a p-mount cartridge system, and therefore your options for needles are limited.I ordered a Shure p-mount cartridge to go with it.This unit does NOT come with a cartridge (needle), and another reviewer implied (the other reviewer bought his/hers used). Also note that when buying from a 3rd party from Amazon, you assume that company's return policy, NOT Amazon's return policy. When I ordered this from Amazon, Amazon turned the order over to Office Depot, who would not accept this item as a return (as per their policy).Watch out.Having said that,I think this unit sounds great, and have not heard the buzzing sound other reviewers have noticed.Just make sure you connect the ground wire.

4-0 out of 5 stars Technics SL-BD22 - reliable turntable
I recently acquired a Technics SL-BD22 turntable used.It replaced a mid-1970's Dual 1237 belt driven table that finally gave up and begged to be retired.Looking for an affordable replacement and being familiar with Technics reputation for fine quality turntables, I naturally turned to eBay.

I'll be honest - I gambled on the SL-BD22 auction and couldn't be happier.I'd read a couple reviews in advance that detailed a "swishing" or static noise separate from the standard needle on vinyl sound.I haven't heard the sounds described. My unit plays perfectly and is silent during quiet musical passages or breaks between songs. One recommendation that may have helped is to upgrade the needle cartridge.Mine came with a low grade Audio Technica cartridge which was quickly switched out.

This table is a gem. It's not fancy and does not have the bells and whistles that some may require in a turntable.Still, it seems to be a reliable component for a great value.I paid $66 in an online auction.I highly recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Technics' Best Table...
Operation of this turntable is smooth with regards to accurate pitch and speed adjustment and the auto-return tone arm mechanism is flawless.

However, the downfall of this Technics turntable is an annoying audible static -like intermittent noise heard on quiet passages of music. I made absolute sure the ground wire was well secured and I even tested this 'table on another stereo system and still the annoying noise was present. Apparently, it may be something inherent in between the belt-motor and the output wiring. I tested another Technics table of the same model number and, yup, you guessed it...that same noise is there. It could have something to do with a design flaw or something that is just inherent with a non-direct drive frequency generated turntable...On a consumer electronics web-site another owner/reviewer of the SL-BD22 had the same exact problem ! So, it could be very much a problematic theme with regards to the designing of the table motor mechanism.

After this experience, I upgraded to the Technics SL-1200M3D. WOW ! A major world of difference. It didn't come cheap but the quality and durability is something to behold and so what if it's not an automatic (one less thing to break down) !

The SL-BD22 is basically a no frills 'table and will play records nicely. BUT, if yours comes with a static or humming sound no matter how much adjusting you do, it's a possibility it could be that design flaw... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Turntable
Even though this turntable only costs $70 it sounds great and has exelent tracking ability. It is light compared to many older turntables at 7 pounds but it has a shock isolated base so it doesn't skip. The included cartridge is an Audio Technica AT3400 which is a good cartridge with a retal value of $34.However when it wears out I recomend you replace it with a better cartridge.Overall this is the best turntable selling for under $200.Oh by the way the retal price on this turntable is $180.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price
This is a great turntable for $69.99 but just keep in mind that the msrp for this turntable is $180.00 so you're actually getting a really good deal on a turntable that does really well.I've had this turn table for quite some time now and I must say that this machine has far exceeded my expectations. When I first bought this turntable I didn't expect much cause it was so inexpensive. But after playing some of my old frank sinatra records, I must say that the sound quality is great. This is a nice and solid turntable without all the bells and whistles. If you want to enjoy all your 33's and 45's this is the machine for you.You can't go wrong with this machine...so "ADD TO CART" ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR THE PRICE
I picked up one of these @ a pawn shop for $95, which i'm told by friends who DJ that I got an exellent deal on it.I don't scratch or anything like that, I mainly use this for sampling wax, or just listening to records. It has great pitch, and for a direct drive i'm told that it's priced right. If you have the $ to get 1200's then by all means, but if you're like me and cash is short but you want a good turntable this isn't a bad purchase. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Pro DJ gives two-thumbs up
I have been playing on my STR8-100's now for two and 1/2 years...I love them. Key correction is good-it even works when using mp3s or cds. Variable pitch rate is great when trying to "screw" rap albums or when mixing that track that has an odd time (Bpm). High tourque platter is double of what you will find on Tech's MKII or MKIII (Go ahead, check the specs;). Drawbacks are turntable is sensitive to "bumping"-record will not skip but a thump is audible. Also, I seem to have developed a spring problem inside of my tone-arm base on my second deck; the tone arm does not rest properly on its stand anymore. This may be due to my extremely rugged use of the deck though, so do not be scared off. I would put this deck up against Numark TTX or Tech's SL1200MKII ANY day of the week.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superrrrr!!!!!
Excellent turntable! For the guy who gave it one star (totally unreasonable) because of no catridge:Read the description - it clearly states cartridge not included. Most turntables do not come with a cartridge and when they are included, they are usually the lower end of the spectrum. This is a super product for the price, especially for home use.It is fully adjustable with regard to vertical tracking force, tone arm height, anti-skating, etc.Solid build quality and excellent sound.Highly resistant to resonance. It has a built in preamp if you don't have a phono input and it will also convert to digital output for connection to your computer or a CD recorder. Excellent product.Yes there are better and more expensive, but for the price and feature content, this is hard to beat. You can choose between the S tone arm or the straight tone arm as well. You can't go wrong with this deal.

3-0 out of 5 stars No cover.
My turntable has no plastic cover that keeps it off the dust. I don't know where to buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great product at a very fair price
This deck has far more features than I will ever use.

The price was very fair, the build quality is really good ( with the one proviso mentioned later ) and it took less than ten minutes to hook up to an amplifier and start playing my old albums.

My only quibble is the manual lever which lifts ( and drops ) the tone arm - it's a small rather weak looking metal lever and doesn't seem to match up to the quality of the rest of the deck.

I would recommend this deck to anybody looking for a quality deck at a very reasonable price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Got this monster of a turn-table as a birthday present after my old Technics gave up the ghost a few years back.Be forewarned, it doesn't come with a needle so I ordered a Stanton 680HP cartridge/needle from a DJ web source (Amazon carries it for about the same price) and with in minutes of attaching it to the player I had burned 2 Kinks 10" LPs onto my computer. It was extremely simple, even for me, an individual who can barely tell a monitor apart from a TV.A RCA cable to the amp and then a stereo RCA to Mini 2 m. pair cable (Amazon or Radioshack has them) from the amp to the soundcard mic connection and Pow! all my old punk rock 7"s which I haven't listen to in years came back to life.Next to burn is the Miles Davis Mosaic 10 LP Plugged Nickel Sessions.Wow, what a beautiful moment.I'm using Musicmatch to record and selecting line-in in advance options and volume leveling to boost the sound although it probably doesn't need it.Then a few seconds later and the Kinks were on a burned CD and in my car stereo sounding so sweet. StantonDJ web site is a great help especially the message board for figuring out the hook-ups if you have any problems. Now the only problem is figuring out which of the 1200 LPs and 400 7"s to burn next... ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Slow start
I haven't had this product for long, but so far, not so good.Despite the fact that my record player is on a flat surface, setting up the arm balance (anti-skating) as described in the manual simply did not work.I had to improvise, in part because the manual does not even say what the approriate weight is for the needle that comes with the record player.I tried leaving a message with Gemimi customer service, and they did not even bother to call me back!In any event, with my improv the needle now stays straight, although because the calibration is off I'm worried it may be applying too much weight to my records and needle.

The machine has no extra features, but the price may be right for those like me who still occasionally enjoy busting out the old vinyls. But it is certainly bare bones; you need to manually start and return the needle (it does not lift itself). One small detail I like is the speed control, which can be calibrated, in conjunction with a pulsing red light, to insure that you have the record speed just right.

This machine certainly is not appropriate for spinning and such.

3-0 out of 5 stars A bargain!
However, I didn't realize that the tone arm wouldn't move, and the turntable wouldn't turn off when the side of a record stopped playing. Also, the tone arm stays up only while I'm touching the cue lever. I was so concerned with price that I'd forgotten what manual meant!

This turntable came with a felt mat, rather than a rubber one. Therefore, I'd put the mat from my old turntable under the new mat.

The ground wire and patch cords plug into both my mixer and my turntable because they're not built into my turntable.

At least, I can play records again. ... Read more

Product Description

Looking for a turntable for those times you're feeling nostalgic about your favorite records? This small turntable is great if you already have a stereo but not a lot of room for another component. Two things make the PS-J11 the smart choice for the modern stereo system. It's only 11 inches wide, so you can stash it just about anywhere. 11-inch "Mini" component width matches Sony MHC Series mini hi-fi component systems. And if your stereo is cutting edge - it doesn't even bother with that antiquated phono input slot - the PS-J11 comes with its own built-in preamp. Aside from the size, the PS-J11 is low-tech - no messing with extra tonearms or worrying about torque and flutter. Just plug it in, plop on a record and there you have it. It's just the thing for casual listeners who aren't ready to jump the vinyl-only fence, but do like having the option. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Small, cheap, simple...
The Sony PS-J11 is a cheap, easy way to get back into vinyl. I don't think Sony sells it anymore though. It's made of VERY cheap plastic and an inexpensive tonearm, so expect plenty of rumble, clicks, pops and other noises. However, strong points include a surprisingly good built in preamp (best 'integrated' I've ever heard), very stable motor, adjustable 33 and 45RPM speeds (via screws on the bottom) and replaceable belt. Also, the unit is VERY small, the platter is the size of a 45. This has more disadvantages than advantages (warped records nearly impossible to play), but if you're looking for something to dub those old records to digital, you could do worse than the PS-J11 (I wouldn't recommend it for use with speakers because it's so light that it'll practically blow away if you turn up the volume).

By the way, the replacement stylus (needle) for this model is the Fisher/Sanyo ST-09D, easily available from [URL] and other online sources. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Technics are Industry standard for a reason...
the 1200 series (MK2, M3D, and now the MK5) have been the industry standard in record players for over 30 years - not only for broadcast radio, but for every respectable club and DJ in the world.I have had these turntables for over two years and I expect them to perform flawlessly well after I get old and give up my DJing hobby. They are just a rock solid piece of art.Timelessly beautiful.

4-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful workhorse.
The Technics SL1200M3D is one of the absolute most reliable, and sturdiest tables out there. It is without a doubt, the most popular turntable for DJs in the world.

However for home use it is far from delivering the best in quality sound in its price range. 90% of all high end quality tables use belt drives. The reason is that direct drive motors cause vibrations that move up through motor, through the platter, to the record you are playing, and then to the needle and out the speakers. A large source of distortion.

A Music Hall MMF-5 comes in around $$$, the MMF-2.1 at $$$.
Both of these turntable will out preform the Technics in qaulity.

The best bet would be for a Rega Planar 2 table at $$$. This is a truly wonderful table. I own this table, along with 2 Technics 1200s(M3D & MK2)and a Rega Planar 3.

The Regas are some of the finest tables in the world for home audio use. But not if you are a DJ.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Technics Crafstmanship
Having owned several plastic cheap turntables over the years ( all of them are in turntable heaven now)this was the last one I purchased.I have had it for almost 2 years and enjoy listening to it almost everyday like it was the first day I bought it ! In fact I sometimes prefer to listen to the old warm analog sound of my vinyl collection versus the new cold digital age of music. What will immediately set this 'table apart from other imitations or knock offs is the rugged and heavy duty plinth (what the actual wheel of steel sits on) and its impeccable or uncanny way of tracking even some older somewhat warped lps (if counter-weight and anti tracking are adjusted just so). This is not only the working dj's table but also for the guy or gal with the valuable record collection. Though it is totally manual, the sacrifice of having to get up (off my lazy ...)and stop it at the end of an lp side is well worth it in exchange for the high calibre of performance. Also, from my past experiences with full automatic turntables I would often pay a high price for owning them because the automatic mechanisms were always the first part to breakdown on any of my tables. This one is a no frills manual without the worry of an automatic mechanism failing (dropping the needle on the outside of the record or rejecting before the actual time of side a or b was up GRRRR !). Rotational speed accuracy is incredible (practically almost no wow and flutter).Start up from a dead stop is fast! You can even gently run your fingertips in the opposite direction the platter is playing and feel how tight and tough the motor fights you to maintain a constant correct speed. This is a great table for archiving your valuable lp's onto a cd recorder due to the smooth start and stop feature. It is also an attractive looking piece of audio equipment that would look like the crowning component jewel to any a/v system;it would make your friends do a double take(either because its an aesthetically nice looking piece or the puzzlement of why anybody still listens to records)It will definitely make young kids and some teens say, "what the heck is that ???). Fitted with an excellent cartridge it will give hours of enjoyment for a party as well as probably outlive the family cat !

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Turntable just got better
Having previously owned the SL1200 MKII, I needed to upgrade and it was about time that Technics came out with an improved version of their classic Indusry Standard. Appearance wise it is almost exactly the same as the SL1200 MKII but the boys have been busy in making noticable changes. The Torque motor moving the turntable platter on this new Deck is nothing short of amazing. For mixing it is the best turntable i have come across and it will last for a good 20 years, maybe more. Having said that it is probably the cheapest turntable to buy in the long run if you are to take quality and reliability into account. The Dust Cover comes off a lot smoother then previously I might add (owners of the SL1200 MK2 will know what Im talking about). So if you are planning on buying a new set of Decks or want to have some serious set of Equipment at your disposal this is what you should be looking at. Do not be fooled by the flashy little buttons and effects that can be found on other turntable brands.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aspiring DJ or want a solid turntable for your old records?
This is top of the line folks. No and, ifs or buts about it. The 1200M3D is the best turntable you can get for your money. Direct Drive, 33 and 45 rpm buttons, zero-pitch reset button, needle light, and a recessed power switch makes this the only table of choice for all DJs. Even if you are looking to get a solid turntable that will be working 20 years from now to play your old 12" or LPs, this is the best table there is. The only thing is that you will need to buy a stylus for it to play records ... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars One of the worst decks ever made
I bought a pair of these decks a couple of years ago, and I owned them for a couple of days.I was fortunate enough to be able to return them because they are in my opinion complete rubbish. The whole pitch/bpm changing stuff is just a pile of cr@p.Wow and flutter seem to be built into the design.I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE ANYWHERE BUY THESE AS THEY ARE COMPLETE 5HIT.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent Table
I've had a pair of these for little less than a year, and they've worked OK so far.The digital readout is good for visually seeing the pitch, but the bpm counter and master tempo serve no function for an experienced DJ.The counter wont read the time of complex beats such as hip-hop or jungle. It will only help you if you are playing music with a strong 4 on the floor beat such as house or trance.Even then, it is only accurate to 1 percent, there is no decimal place; most beat matching requires a much higher accuracy. The master tempo allows you to change the speed without changing the pitch. However, if you adjust it more than 4%, the music will sound choppy like a low bit-rate mp3, which is horrible for live performance.Remember that on any turntable most songs will sound ok if they are within 4% of the original speed. There's lots of cool features, but remember, more features means more things to break.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surpasses the Technics SL-1200
Many DJs would consider it blasphemous to claim that another turntable evens comes near the Technics SL-1200, let alone surpass it in quality. And yet, the Gemini PDT-6000 does just that.As far as base specifications go, it is to my experienced hand indistinguishable from the 1200, including torque and brake power, tonearm construction (which is actually better in the Gemini), and pitch adjustment. However, all of the above can be fully customized; the brake and torque strengths can be pulled down to nearly zero and the pitch control can be set to +/- 4, 8, 16, or 35 percent. And all without opening the case.Combine this with the ability to change the pitch of the song without changing the speed, and vice versa, and you have a deck that gives you more creative control over your music than anything else on the market. There are several other features, such as a digital readout which makes bending the tempo incredibly easy, a BPM counter (which generally can find the tempo of songs with a strong kick with 5% accuracy, which makes it nearly useless), and a button that switches off the pitch adjustment. The only downside with this deck is that it has perhaps too many bells and whistles, and as such can be confusing and overwhelming for a beginner. ...
