The CDJ-1 is NOT built to last.
Having purchased this item in November last year.My overall impression was that it felt like a very cheap unit.The tape deck spiggots kept grinding and dislocating so tapes got stuck and wouldn't eject and the cds jumped a couple of times during the first month of use.However, I persisted with the unit as the unique and special feature of tape and cd pitch control is not usually available on a portable boombox.As I was using this unit to take to my fitness classes it made my tapes and cds much more flexible as I could speed up step tapes for aerobics etc.I have finally reached the point after 6 months of having to tape my cds onto cassette as the cd player jumps every 20 seconds or so.The unit was purchased through Pure Energy and when I contacted them about the problem they advised me that due to such a huge number of the units displaying the same symptoms as mine, they are no longer selling it.The are giving everyone a full refund but they did tell me that the manufacturer of the unit will not accept responsiblity for the problems this unit seems to have inherently within its design.I was lucky I purchased the unit through a decent company.I pity anyone who bought it direct.Such a shame as there really is nothing else on the market to rival it.WOuld have been great if they had got it right!!
