Good Mp3 Player If You Know What You Are Doing!
9 hours to install this?I don't think so!It took me a while but not even close to 9 hours...maybe an hour at most!I even think you can get away with NOT installed RealOne Player!Just make sure you download the firmware version on Sonic Blue's web site according to your part number.You should be up and running in no time!

Now for the bad and good points:

Bad:

- The software that comes with this are so obsolete you might as well throw it out.
- Can't tell which song is playing from the file
- Sketchy "Getting Started Guide"
- Slow transfer rates by default

Good:

- This IS somewhat upgradeable up to 128 megabytes
- You can fit up about 18 or so mp3 songs in 112k
- Great if you want something that has hit songs you don't care about which one that plays.
- Has random and repeat modes not common on more sophisicated player
- Display does show the bitrate at least
- Has a belt clip so you can jog with it on your hip.

If you are waiting at the airport, in the backseat of your car on a long trip, or jogging, this is a really good mp3 player to consider.

The PMP 300 is back!
Wow, I have this mp3 player...the problem is:I bought it 1999, and it was then called the Rio PMP 300.

This version, the Rio One, is basically an upgrade in memory of a five year old player.Same media, same case, different colors.I have a lot of problems with mine, but mostly flakey, annoying problems.It works...sometimes.

So, be forewarned:this is a first-generation mp3 player.It is the digital audio equivalent of the dodo.Nice and meaty, but don't expect it to last.

Run, don't walk away from this product
Mine just stopped working after about 1 month. I returned it, and got another one that stopped working after about 3 months. The batteries lasted almost as long as the player. I now have a Nomad Muvo (64mb), which I've had for about 2 years, and love. I highly recommend the Muvo for someone looking for a small, reliable, mp3 player. It's actually less expensive than this Rio junk.

dont be stupid, dont buy this
bad would be a good word for this product. I am writing this in the first day that I have this product. It sucks really bad. It sais that it costs $100 regularly.Ha ha ha, I wouldn't pay 50 cents for it, let alone $30.

this thing SUCKS
This mp3 player is so un believably BAD. It takes like 9 hours to finally set up. I bought mine about 2 months ago. guess what, it broke. the thing is so bad. no wonder it was so cheap. the customer service is also horrible. the thing just stopped turning on. i put a new battery in too. when i got it, i opened the battery slot and one of the things that closes it broke off so i had my battery taped in the whole time. My first mp3 and it SUCKS!!!
I got this for christmas last year, but i didnt use it that much but Now, i love kroq, but this piece of crap doesnt take in some of my songs.I put on 8 songs from Red Hot Chili Peppers, and only four of them work, and it skips the others.I have to go backwards to find the song, and it still skips them.????

Now im getting a zen micro and i already know itll be better than this one even [...]

Software required?
I am a digital music enthusiast and have owned several MP3 players like this one; this was perhaps the most dissatisfying MP3 player I have ever purchased. Unlike most every other player I've owned, Rio requires that you install a program in order to transfer music to the device (most MP3 players simply show up as an extra drive under "my computer" allowing you to drag and drop files onto them). First of all, I hate installing vendor software like this, because these programs tend to be fairly invasive (changing file type settings, installing 3rd party "bonus" software, and they take up too much hard drive space given how minimally useful they are). My second complaint (which ties in with the 1st) is that the device was not plug-and-play compatible. This means that I can't download music to it from school computers or friends' computers either (because odds are they won't have the Rio software either).

As you can tell, I never actually got to listen to any music on it, because I could never download anything to it.

Anyway, these complaints may seem minor, but they make this device look kind of bush-league compared to equably priced models by other companies. I guess I had just expected more from such a popular brand of MP3 player.

Don't buy Rio
I have had continious problems with Rio, the same goes to many other people.Many things have broken on many peoples players.ave your money and be confident in your purchase.DON'T BUY RIO!!

Problems with my Rio
3 months - screen started to blank out in lines
5 months - keeps losing songs (you have to pull out battery to get them back I found - YAY)
8 months - won't start when I hit the 'on' button, but if I keep pulling the battery out and trying to start it, then it will come on after I do that a while)

DON'T BUY RIO - more bad reviews with other Rio players - read them before you buy

juggle - stick will malfunction
The juggle will break after few mounths (bought two of them, on one the backward stopped working, on the second the play stopped working), otherwise it would have been a great mp3 player

memory problem
I bought this player 4 months back. I am having a serious problem for the past 1 month. Although the player has 128Mb of internal memory, I have been able to use only half of it, whenever I try to copy music files beyond 60 Mb I get "copy" error. I tried copying different files but even then I got the same error, then I reinstalled the software and the online updates. Even that didn't work. Now I am using it as a 64 Mb player. the box in question is probably one of the best in production, its light weight and very durable design gives it a headstart thats head and shoulders above its closest competitors. It holds 70 lp's which is more than enough to supply any dj with a stable set in any nightclub.
