The classic, professional CD player
I've seen this player at clubs all over the country and abroad. Definitely the reference. I've owned the non-mk2 version for over 2 years and am totally satisfied with it. The memory card and ability to store cue-point is great: I put a cue point at the beginning of each song which I think is worthwhile on a CD, which makes me see at-a-glance what to listen to in a CD.

Only things I'd like to see is a 4th hotcue point (useful since beats are 4/4), and I'd like to see less of a lag when cueing for scratch, but I guess that's inherent to the CD format. The lag is very acceptable once you know it's there.

Also, it would be nice if it was possible to select a cuepoint from the memory card and cue instantly while playing rather than having to do this offline.

Loading is also very fast (compared to the new Technics SL-DZ1200 digital turntable, which takes an annoying 12 seconds to load a CD (good for a living-room stereo, but a club?).

The mk2 has almost nothing more added compared to the normal, non-mk2 one. This annoyingly lowers the selling price of mine for no good reason.

The fact pioneer hasn't had to release a real new model in years shows how standard this one is, though if they continue this way they'll be bitten by the competition in pretty much the same way Technics was by Vestax, Stanton, and everybody else. Maybe that's why they named this one after Technics' turntables: mk2... ;)

OK, room for improvement
First off, on the plus side: This player is truly portable, running for a good many hours on a set of 6 "D" cell batteries, or on the supplied AC adapter. The turntable is good, with accurate electronically controlled speed (including 78 RPM- A big plus to many vintage collectors), adjustable pitch. The tone arm is borderline unacceptable. Heavy weight with way-too-much skating tendencies, so much so that the sound is unbalanced in the headphones as the stylus is always being pressed against the left side of the ceramic pickup element. The built in amplifier and speaker are just barely loud enough to hear in a home setting- forget a noisey environment. The headphones are your only choice here. Am I sorry I bought it? Great Turntable
I bought a pair of these turntables about a year ago. They were my first tables. I use them for mixing breakbeat and I use them to scratch. These are very good for scratching, within a month I was impressing myself and all of my friends. Very good for scratching. I have been practicing mixing on these tables also, but the only bad thing I can say about these tables are the wow and flutter on them. The records do not stay matched up for very long when you beat match, but the sound and features on them are great. Reverse, 33,45, and 78 speeds and the pitch control also comes in handy, especially when the records you are trying to mix start going out of sync you can adjust the pitch to sync them back up.

Awesome Starter/Intermediate tables
I have had my turntables for about 6 months now, and I love them.The reverse function is great for getting more sounds out of your records.The platter starts and stops in an instant, which is essential for good scratching.Also, I can lock the pitch of the record but still adjust its speed.That is crazy!!

Anyway, great buy, definately recommend.The guy below doesnt know what he's talking about.

terrible for scratch DJs
If you are into scratchin' do not buy this turntable.It skips way to much for a 250+ price range.For turntablism take some advice and invest a little more in a technics turntable or a numark TTX.

Old rocker says THANX to all you DJs!
We put the Stanton STR8-80 into our system about a month ago and since then our CD player has gotten downright lonely. Records I had previously considered almost unplayable sound pretty good, and records that are in good condition sound excellent. I'm not a DJ, I'm a music lover old enough that my music collection contains hundreds of hours on vinyl, but I'm really pleased with the DJ capabilities of this 'deck'. One major advantage of a DJ turntable is that the motor can withstand the resistance when I'm cleaning a record before play -- critical when many record in a collection are 30 to 50 years old. It tracks well, and the blue lights are really fun too. Also, if I want to play along with the record, the capability to adjust pitch but not tempo is very cool (yes it sounds a little weird, due mainly to the envelope distortion -- but way easier than retuning a piano). No hesitation, I'd recommend this highly.

Plays 78s!
Yes it costs more than other brands, but it plays the old 78s I got from my dad, and it plays them about as flawlessly as I could have hoped for, in records that are over 50 years old.I do not use it for any of the dj features nor have I tried to hook it up to my computer, but it is nice to know I can try to copy records to my hard drive and make .mp3s, whenever I have time.heck, I hardly have time to write a review.
