Good good
Well I just go this bass guitar after wanting one for a long time now and it is very nice. Looks very good, it had fast shipping, I think I received it in about 4 days. The amp sounds very good and it is highly controllable. I only found one problem with it, maybe it is just how I play, but when moving up and down the guitar the string will sometime barely touch the metal parts and it will make a loud metal vibrating noise, so you have to be accurate and use morepressure so it doesn't do that. Andthe shoulder strap is a bit of not good. But other than those few I found it very nice and hopefully I shall become better at this. ... Read more

GREAT STARTER PACKAGE FOR THE MONEY
Just received my Yamaha bass pack in good order. I really knew nothing about this particular package - all I knew is that all of the other packages out in the market (except for the pricier Ibanez unit)were junk. This package offered alot of value for the money. I was counting on Yamaha's reputation for quality ,and - for the most part, it doesn't disappoint. The guitar looks & feels good, lightweight but not junky. It plays super easily (although I had to adjust the action a bit), and it sounds nice - a very decent rock bass that has an edgy sound.
The little practice amp is even better than I imagined - solid, quality feel. Of course, you'll never be able to play a gig with the amp (unless it's with acoustic guitars) but what do you expect? The little electronic tuner works great, the cable is junky , and the strap is OK. This package even includes an extra set of strings,a string winder and a Hal Leonard instructional booklet. These are extras the other packages don't inlcude.
For the money, the next best package next to the Ibanez set. ... Read more

this is the one of the best basses in this price range that you can buy. period.great construction and quality. double ball tuning sytstem is awesome.the looks take a little getting used to, but once you do its awesome.the dual emg humbuckers are great. u can get whatever sound u want, from real punchy to mellow tones.the leg rest is kinda useless, and the gig bag provided isnt the best, so if you are going to carry it around i suggest you just use a normal bass gig bag...it works perfectly fine. ... Absolut Best For Beginners
Don't listen to the guy above, this bass is the best for the money. If you want to learn how to play, but are on a strict budget, get this. I just got mine, and It's perfect. It sounds great, looks great, It's awesome. You will move on, but this is exactly what you need to start with.

No. Just...no.
Since starting out as a musician, this is the single product that everyone can make fun of, and it's ok. If you say "Rogue Bass" in a group of experienced (4+ months even) musicians, everyone will laugh in unison at the joke you made. In music catalogues, you'll see this with "THE FIRST REAL BASS FOR UNDER [x dollars]". Cross out the "REAL" there and that's what you get. I played this thing back in 2000 and it was just awful. The sound was decent when it wasn't plugged in, but once it was, I felt bad for everyone around me. There's the saying that 'it's not the instrument, it's the one playing it". Well, that doesn't apply here. This is the kind of bass you'd expect to find at a garage sale. The kind that's been beaten to death by a shovel and then the wires were chewed up by a dingo with down's syndrome.

The only redeeming quality about this is that it's probably the single cheapest bass to exist. You're bound to find one better for even ten bucks more. If you're looking at getting a Rogue bass for your son or daughter as a gift, you'll only scar them emotionally and physically for the rest of their life/lives. It's more cheaply made than Joan Rivers' face. I feel bad even reviewing this thing and giving it my time. But I'm here to warn you people, this bass is on the list of "things that make baby Jesus cry". Look elsewhere for a beginner bass. Even Ibanez has a good starter model that constantly gets good feedback. ... Read more

Surprisingly good entry level bass
As an entry bass, I'm giving it 5 stars, because it's a tremendous value.(It doesn't compare at all to a Warwick or Alembic.)

I'm an advanced guitarist (guitarist, not bassist), having played guitar for 15 years, and I decided to buy a cheap bass to play around on.Normally I wouldn't purchase anything under $400, but I heard these were quite good.

This bass gets good tone, especially if you run it through a little compression and equalization.You can go from a gutteral crunch to a bright punch with ease.It has a responsive, sleek neck.The most common problem with low end guitars and basses is that they tend to have distorted, often uncorrectable intonation, but the intonation on this bass was perfect out of the box.

I had to do some set up to get this playing right.Apparently it's common on these.If you buy one and find that the lower 5 frets on the E and A strings tend to buzz, your neck is too straight.Loosen the truss rod a little and that should take care of it.(Be careful with truss rods.You can ruin your neck.If you are very inexperienced, have an experienced friend show you how or pay $20 at a guitar store for a set up.)

The upper frets are quite accessible.I have no problem doing bass solos on this.A nice feature is that it has 24 frets, compared to 20 or less on a typical Fender P-bass. (This also applies to the Squier P-bass, which is probably something you're considering if you're looking at this.I had a Squier electric 13 years ago.It was a piece of junk.)

The bass is also quite attractive.The finish seems durable, and is nicer than what you'd expect from the website image.

Overall, this is a great entry bass, as along as you're willing to set it up.
